Note: Curious, did it really take the death of Douglas Adams to get the ball rolling? Did he want too much control over his works that things never got off the ground? Hollywood has been wanting to do HHGTTG ever since Men in Black was released (proving Comedy Sci-Fi can work and make millions).

It’s a good point. I know that Adams wasn’t very keen on (in my opinion, one of the best sci fi shows ever produced), the BBC’s television version of the series (and MUCH better than the books!!! – go on flame me 😉 ). So I can imagine that Adams (and his estate) are pretty dubious of any Holywood involvement.
As I type this out (mildly pissed on a bottle of red wine) I’m reminded of the Brit on-line TV sci fi comedy community of old. A few years ago if we were to post a message in any of the newsgroups dedicated to shows like Red Dwarf and Hitch Hikers, we’d be hit by a plethora of stupid types unnapreciative of the fanbase that the likes of Adams and Naylor helped to create and intent on trying to develop a sort of clique. It was hard to get into British sci fi in those days on the web – depressing 🙁 And I wonder if that legasy permiated into the film studios.
I wonder sometimes if the likes of Holywood and and other film production companies were so pissed off with the idiotic fan minority that they decided not to bother with the trouble of creating a film.

I doubt it, Hollywood doesnt care about the fan base its so easy to tune them out with a call from security. The only thing that tells them to make a sequel or continue a series (after cancelation) is the video sales.
Family Guy is returning after a solid year of DVD sales.
Lethal Weapon 2, 3, & 4 were made after record rentals of the original movie.
Farscape may return due to DVD sales and if they rush out the new Battlestar Galactica, that may prove to be the deciding factor whether or not it gets made into a series.
Of course, it all depends on how the TV shows are packaged on DVD these days. Price per Episode Ratio is so important these days. Four 60 min episodes per 20$ DVD seems to be the going rate.
But to stay on topic, here is what Marvin looks like in the Illustrated HHGTTG version.

Much better than that Henson Shop Hack Job. I decided to scan some more last night, enjoy.

Trillian looks nice 🙂

GuestLooks like Ford, Trillian, Arthur, Marvin and Slatibatfast have been cast.
Trillian: Zooey Deschanel (from Elf)
Ford Prefect: Mos Def (black guy from Italian Job)
Slatibatfast: Bill Nighy (from Underworld?)
Arhtur Dent: Martin Freeman (from The Office)
Marvin is shown above, will be played by Warric Davic (Willow), but voiced by Stephen Moore.
Still waiting on Zaphod Beeblebrox, which was rumored that Robert Downey Jr was being approached for the role, but it may be unlikely that he will accept (one can only hope).
I would LOVE to see Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead3, Bubba Ho-Tep) play the role of Zaphod, wishful thinking I tell ya.
