GuestAleck, I think it’s impossible to draw any definitive conclusions on where the war started, it may have been the Dark Zone as much as it could have been the light Universe.
Your suggestions that the dark zone seems less likely are well put, but there is no guarantee that the insects followed the Brunnen G to the light universe, it may have happened some time after the Brunnen G left the Dark Zone, or it could be said that the insects came from the light universe.
We simply will not know, as there is not enough evidence to offer a clear indication, the Dark Zone seemed more likely as it appeared to be the universe that was relatively unexplored by man as opposed to the light universe, in the sense that maybe that’s where the insects originated.
Maybe the insects felt that there territory was being invaded (if they did come from the dark zone), and if the insects were commonly the size of the Gigashadow, then entering the Fractal core to the light universe would have been impossible, they may have been able to send smaller insect warriors, but the big boys (those that were the size of the Gigashadow) would not be able to pass.
That would have severly hampered the insects in the war, but having said that this maybe the reason why mankind won the day, I couldn’t see how the Brunnen G could defeat insects the size of the Gigashadow when the most powerful weapon ever conceived (Lexx)could not even scratch it, plus the fact the Brunnen G would not have had the technology to match that of the Lexx.
It could be said that the Gigashadow was a one off insect, but even with the food it was fed on the cluster, it could’ve only grown to specific size, so there may have been many insects that could grow that large during the the time of the insect wars.

There seems to be plenty of material for a prequel, also we wouldn’t lose everybody in a prequel, Kai would still be around for that, although you couldn’t Lexx anymore, but seeing as the movies were known more as Tales from a Parallel Universe than as Lexx, it shouldn’t cause too much confusion.
Also I think if the approach was different, then it would work well, what I mean is I think many people are off put by Lexx’s humour and sexual observations, if a prequel just portrayed the legends as a serious set of events, then those people would be attracted to Lexx.
They probably would be left with a hunger to find out what happens after the prequel(s), I think Lexx has the capability to build itself into a modern myth in the same way Star Wars has, due to the richness of it’s past.I hope that after Mr D, Mr H and Mr Gigeroff lay down their writing tools and have a much needed break, that they consider returning to the Lexx universe.

A prequel would be simply wonderful! And for all the reasons, and more, that you, Squishy, and you, Lexxlurker, have stated. I would so like to learn more about the BrunnenG and the Insect Wars. Perhaps the Beans will consider it. We can only hope.

The places of execution were splattered with blood, but the chutes and conveyor belt were clean of blood and gore. Bacteria would be fewer and the smell not so bad. Remember that humans were living on higher levels and the Gigashadow had to be kept secret from them. Also the cluster lizards might have become frenzied if they smelled food and might have tried to get to the conveyor belt.

There is so much more to be explored in Lexx, like you said B3K and the wife bank, Stanley’s youth and the Austral B heretics (done in the same way as the maquis in Star Trek), always on the run from the Divine order, and of course Kai and the people he loved and lost on Brunnis, and last but not least the war with the insects.
I think in some ways it would be more exciting than Lexx is at the moment, for me the Divine Order never was really shown to flex it’s muscles (aside from seeing the foreshadow destroy Brunnis).
I think that a prequel would give us an insight into how Kai, Xev and Stan developed as young people, although a prequel involving Stan and Xev would have to be seperate, but nonetheless a series could emerge from all of these interesting stories.

A prequel would have to involve Zev (sorry to nitpick about Zev/Xev, but here it’s important). So it’d need Eva back, which would also be great.
Early Kai has been fairly covered in Brigadoon, I’d like to see more of Thodin.

Nitpick away!!!, you know what I meant, I’m for Eva coming back right now, but yeah you’re right a prequel would have to involve Zev, but if we are too nitpick, then it would have to invlove Lisa H, and to be honest (no offence to her), but I don’t think many people would be too interested in seeing an ugly version of Zev/Xev in a series.
Brigadoom, didn’t really bring the Brunnen G story over too well, the form of a musical wasn’t going to give it the dramatic feel the story deserves.
But Thodin, would be a giant of a character in any story, I think that many people were fascinated by Thodin, I thought that he would have been as likeable and admirable as Kai was.
He seemed to have the grace and poise of a great leader, and demanded respect, especially when taking on an assassin knowing perfectly well he would not survive…plus he was really cool, Mr Bostwick gave a memorable performance as Thodin.

I would like to see how the insect consciousness got more and more power over humans and became His Divine Shadow. I would imagine that it used political, military, scientific, criminal, business and cult methods of gaining control.
Imagine someone with the same desire to control humanity as Hitler, but without the vanity, greed, spite and all the other emotions that were weaknesses. This is one reason why HDS’s is so scary.
The opening sequence of the first episode of the second series could be used as a starting point for a spin-off series.
I could imagine that HDS at some point could have had a side line in supplying pet food and kebabs to the league of 20,000 planets. Human meat which was rejected as unfit for the Giga-Shadow could have gone into burgers. I wonder what the advertizing jingle for that would have been.
