thank you frey for explaining very clearly what the problem is with what bonnee was doing…obviously, he did not realize that what he was doing was a source of difficulty in any way…it’s a pity however, that as usual he couldn’t just admit his lack of knowledge and apologize for stepping on any toes
FX is right – I should have thanked thefrey for going to such an effort to explain what is involved with the imaging linking, etc. I actually composed a response but decided against it posting it – it wanted to continue to discuss the implications of what was explained, but I realised that thefrey’s explanation precluded the need for further discussion. However, I’m not sure an apology was merited with respect to THE IMAGES because of Sadgeezers indeterminate policy regarding them – not to mention, considerable tolerance encountered on other sites. If I was to apologise FOR THAT, my assumption would have been to those people who’s bandwith I had used up without the requisite traffic, etc. (Please note that although I deleted the offending image in my post, it is still present in one of Flamegrape’s post ‘quoting’ it. Can you please delete it to ensure that we are not continuing to violate the other site).
Nonetheless, I am VERY SORRY for not thanking thefrey without fx’s prompting or reminder, and certainly appreciate thefrey’s good natured, extensive and considered response to what is apparently an offense. Or at atleast, is actively discouraged here because of lack of express approval.

Participantwell, although you have carefully plastered several caveats throughout, the fact that you went to the trouble to post an apology is appreciated …fact is, netiquette is an arcane and wondrous thing, and all of us have tripped over points of it (who knew printing in block letters was such a major offense in some quarters?!)…the thing that makes this whole little show stagger along however is pretty much what makes real life liveable; a willingness to learn and modify one’s behavior to the circumstances…and btw, although saddy does not expressly condone or condemn beatings, except perhaps in the case of pesky ex wives and petty bureaucrats, i think it’s fairly clear that one shouldn’t go out and beat people if one has an inkling that this might not be acceptable behavior
just out of curiousity, has anyone here got a funny story about a fauxpas, internet or otherwise that they have committed? i was helping two male friends move into a brownstone in ny a few years ago, when the lady who owned it asked me whose friend i was…she was a sweet old icelandic lady and i thought she was simply curious as to which of the boys had conned me into carrying large boxes up and down three flights of stairs…i said i was friends with both of the boys (we were college buddies) and thought no more of it…later, one of the boys, also icelandic, had a conversation with her, and turned to me smiling…and said ‘she thinks you’re sleeping with both of us’…

You are very welcome.
But one thing I would point out, it is not that linking to images on sites you don’t own is considered *wrong* here. I am not even sure it is even mentioned anywhere in the rules. It is more that it is something that is considered wrong in general, one of those rules that ‘goes without mentioning.’ (Kind of like that general prohibition against calling people ‘just to chat’ at 8 am on a Sunday morning) That some sites tolerate it, may have more to do with loose oversight than any actual approval of the practice.

GuestJust out of curiousity, thefrey, was the fact that you printed your entire message in bold letters some kinda reference to FX’s remark about block letters? (I know that there is a difference, but it’s just semantics anyway.)

No. It is more due to my advancing age and the fact that this stuff kinda disapears in normal type. Or is that just on my screen?

actually, it was sort of an inside joke; we were chatting at #sadgeezer, splarka was moderating, and a couple of peeps got tossed after he warned them not to do all caps, bold letters and so forth…many hurt feelings ensued
