Kai’s feelings for Xev

Something I found very funny was a scene in “Love Grows” (I think it was love grows), when Xev yelled in Kai’s face how much she hated him.
He barely lifted an eyebrow in response.But earlier in “Eating Pattern” he seamed pretty upset in his tone of voice when he told Zev that a sateliteworm just had rejected him, because he was dead.
So what’s the conclution you can draw from that? He cares more about a worm than about Xev?

The problem with trying to judge Kai’s emotions is the fact his characters brain doesent function totally.
Most of his brain is shut off so just because his face displays something doesent mean thats what hes thinking. He tends to give a person a response based off the tone and demeanor of that person.
I think Kai does care about Xev and Stan, he just doesent have a way of displaying or comprehending it. He can only react, not pro-act.

i respectfully disagree lexxlurker, kai can be very proactive, he frequently figures out before the others that something is not right, then looks to prove it, and deal with it if necessary…he also has an honor code, as in norb when he tells stan that a bargain was made…more recently he decided with xev that killing prince would ultimately make no difference so he did not kill prince…except for wake the dead, kai does not kill wantonly, but he does seem to be getting more short tempered of late [img]http://www.sadgeezer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]

Maybe he figured that Xev didn’t really hate him.He seemed hurt in Gigashadow when Zev didn’t like his baby (Squish)
But who knows why Kai does what he does? There was that kiss with Zev at the end of Gigashadow and when he ‘inspected’ May’s wound in May.

Yeah more wishful thinking on my part. My own two statements contradict each other which I frequently do 😛 Kai lacks the brain to love is a pretty safe bet.
As for his short temper I noticed quite a few odd remarks from Kai this season. He is usually very straight foward with the crew or anyone for that matter. This season he’s been a little elusive and him wanting or being drawn to Transelvania is totally out of character. Maybe some remenant of HDS is around *shrug* We’ll see soon [img]http://www.sadgeezer.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img]
Of course the most irritable moment I love is from Mantrid when Kai says the insect doesent give a life signal like you then glares at Stan and with almost contempt says “Or Stanley”.
Love that scene.
I sorta think Kai is using the “gotta be cruel to be kind” concept as a guideline in his behavior towards Xev. As FX pointed out, he has an honor code, and I’ve always thought he tries his best to act or react in a way that is most honorable (given the circumstances). Here’s my theory: Kai remembers love and all of it’s accompanying joys and pains. He knows Xev loves him (she’s made that very clear). Knowing he can’t satisfy her (emotionally OR physically), he is careful not to encourage her – so as not to cause her any more pain. On the other hand, he’s not “motivated” to actively DIScourage her from the occasional kiss. He’s nothin’ but a dang tease – strutting around in that tight black suit, flaunting those pouty crooked lips… ahem. Lost my train of though there for a sec.
And, HEY! What about (in Boomtown season 3)when Xev said to Bunny, “his other parts don’t function at all, so you’ll just have to get your satisfaction somewhere else,” and Kai says over his shoulder, “You too, Xev!” THAT WAS JUST MEAN, Kai!
Ooh, and what’s up with the way Kai uses emotional blackmail to manipulate 790? “Do you love me, 790? Then you will…blah blah blah.” Kai may not feel emotions, but he remembers them all right!

Good point, maybe he just doesn’t want to encourage her…
I don’t think you can say that Kai is 100% dead.
“He shows some unusual sings of life” – MantridIt seems that he does have feelings, but they are lying deep beneath the surface, so to speak. He sometimes shows very small signs of emotions, usually anger.
And I think that Michael McManus, adds this deliberatly (wrong spelled?) to the character.
Excellent point Theli. Actors have feelings like all of us do. So playing characters like “Kai” and “Data”; characters that are emotionless (usually) are extremely difficult to play without having yourself spill over.

– AuroraKai does respond to his programming, which still affects him even after retaining his memory, so perhaps being ‘drawn’ to Transylvania is some left over programming from the Divine Order?

He seemed warmer towards Zev. There was meaningful eye contact and a warm ‘thank you’ at the end of IWHS, holding her hand at the end of Supernova, (in 3, he did seem to really resent being dead…) and in Gigashadow, Squish inspired all kinds of praises “good lizard, that’s my baby, etc…” and hey, wasn’t that a smile when Squish tried to eat his ear? (shower room) What WAS he going to say while collapsing ” good-bye Zev my…”
He appeared quite remorseful to have speared Stan’s heart in 2.2 and looked at least a bit moved when Zev died…
790 gets kisses on demand and a fair amount of care is taken not to hurt his robot feelings.
I personally think that regardless of his (in)ability to feel emotion, he just doesn’t fancy Xev…——————
