I just saw ep. 4.03, and I was really disappointed. I will continue to watch the rest of the season in hopes that it will get BETTER. The story is so-so, and the laughs just weren’t there. The only time that I laughed was when Kai was talking to the kid who read part of the newspaper and responded “The dead are weird.” But other gags, like the “Xev from planet B-3K” jokes get old after the second episode. Besides the general un-funnyness of the past episodes, the lack of exotic CGI locations just makes the scenes look like a made for t.v. movie on the USA network. It doesn’t look or feel interesting anymore. Now here comes the hard part…I really hate to criticize such a great show (well I just did..), but I guess the writers wrote so much about their space adventures, they forgot about reality on Earth. My first complaint is that Xev was sent straight to jail without mention of a trial. I know that Earth is in the dark universe and all, but rules are rules and they gotta have a trial. They automatically assumed that she murdered four people! That’s pretty hard to swallow. My second complaint is the science kid that was trapped with Stanley. I just want to smack that kid around and teach him some manners…or how to act at least. The fake-crying part was just ridiculous, and when he was walking around in what I assume to be a high-security area, the guard just looked at him as if he just came off the street. On top of that, the kid was holding a fully automatic pistol with ONE HAND, and emptied about 5 clips into him! After the next two guards arrived, he emptied at least another 4 and a half clips into them too! Bleh. I wouldn’t think twice if the kid did the same thing on another planet, but come on, this is Earth! Well I’m glad I got that off my chest…I’ve got a few minor complaints about other stuff too, if that wasn’t enough. When Stan had his wrists and ankles free in the cell, he could’ve just jumped over to the crane prince was standing on. That would’ve made it more interesting, imo. Also, when the mob of atf agents came in after Kai, they ALL had to run all the way to Kai just to point their guns at him! Yeah it makes it look dramatic, but it also makes it look silly. Phew…I’ll get off my soapbox now…(gets ready to be pelted)…

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think you have a few things wrong…

First of all, most people that I have talked to seem to think, as do I, that 4.03 was one of the better episodes of Lexx made.

In response to your individual points:

“My first complaint is that Xev was sent straight to jail without mention of a trial.”
–> That IS how things work on earth. People who are criminal suspects for murder are sent straight to jail before the trial. We dont let murder suspects roam the streets waiting months for their case to go to trial (though suspects can often get out on bail, if they can obtain it). Also, remember that at the end of the episode, a fax was sent to the prision ordering Xev’s release as it was discovered that she was not involved in the shooting.

“the guard just looked at him as if he just came off the street. On top of that, the kid was holding a fully automatic pistol with ONE HAND, and emptied about 5 clips into him!”
–> Well, Lexx has always been a show that doesn’t waste time with the details… However, perhaps the guard was not suspisious of the kid because he was ALREADY in a high security area, and would have already been cleared by security to get there. Also, he thinks that the kid’s father is his boss As for holding the pistol, yah its kind of silly, but mabye in the future they found a way to reduce the kickback on the pistol or something. Oh well. I just dont think that minor details like this make a show ‘bad’.

“When Stan had his wrists and ankles free in the cell, he could’ve just jumped over to the crane prince was standing on”
–> err… since stan though that prince was planning on throwing him down, I dont think he would have had a better chance holding onto prince’s crane, with prince on the inside ready to push him off. Stan has never been especially daring anyway, and it would have been out of character.

“Also, when the mob of atf agents came in after Kai, they ALL had to run all the way to Kai just to point their guns at him! Yeah it makes it look dramatic, but it also makes it look silly”
–> I assume you mean the ATF agents going after STAN, as I dont remember this happening to Kai in this episode. Remember, the agents did not want stan to run away from them on sight, and they also needed to check that Prince was ok before they grabbed stan. They were probabaly trying to surround him.

Anyway, not everyone is going to like everything, but I think you are a little bit off on this episode. I found many parts of it humorous, including the warden spitting tobacco on his window that he forgot to roll down It seems like most of your complaints are just nitpicking little details anyway…

What? You really think the space shuttle is driven like an automatic car? and that there are such things as Tucans that glow in the dark and that TeXans really talk and act like that? .. well I’m sure you get the point.

I mean you can clearly see the gun the kid has is a toy gun painted black, the fire from the gun had to be CG.

I notice you didn’t mention anything about the anal-raping carrots? Did you not have a problem with those being realistic? The beans never take the show too seriously and never have, that’s the whole point of doing LEXX. Star Trek has already been done to death by itself.

The episodes seem to be getting better with each new one in my oppinion.

“I notice you didn’t mention anything about the anal-raping carrots? Did you not have a problem with those being realistic?

Oh yeah, I thought that part was pretty funny(But I did have a problem with that part when his wife wanted to stop the car just because “she saw something move”)… If I had a problem with realism in the LEXX, I wouldn’t be watching the show in the first place, as it has a walking corpse, carnivorous plant girls, A gigantic insect spaceship, etc…
The problem with LEXX on EARTH is that parts of it HAVE to be realistic, or some people may have a hard time believing that it is Earth. Like I already said, I wouldn’t have any problem if the “magic recoil-less” gun scene WASN’T on Earth, but on another planet–that would be “O.K.” I just think it’s bad if I’m watching the show, and I laugh at parts that aren’t meant to be funny.

“The beans never take the show too seriously and never have, that’s the whole point of doing LEXX. Star Trek has already been done to death by itself.”

I remember Paul Donovan saying in an article that they didn’t like how season 3 was “too serious”, and that season 4 will be more like season 2…more off-the-wall humor, and un-connected episodes that stand on their own(It’s definitely not the latter). IMHO, season 4 is too serious, and/or not enough season 2 humor.

{“My first complaint is that Xev was sent straight to jail without mention of a trial.”
–> That IS how things work on earth. People who are criminal suspects for murder are sent straight to jail before the trial.}

Please notice I said “without mention” of a trial. Also, please notice that I have put ‘jail’ instead of ‘prison’. I think they could’ve clarified what was going to happen to her…not make it look dark and without hope that she wouldn’t be set free.

“I assume you mean the ATF agents going after STAN,”

Yeah, I think you’re right, sorry.

On a minor side note, I thought that Prince’s crane was way too close to Stan. I remember yelling “Jump on the crane!” Maybe it’s just perspective, I guess

Season 4 isn’t as great as season 2, but it’s refreshing after sitting through season 3.

I disagree that Lexx is nonserious and unrealistic. In seasons 1 and 2 it was more scientifically accurate than Star Trek! It has a little Doctor Who-esque whimsy, but it’s hardly a comedy. There are a few episodes with scientific errors (Love Grows, Patches in the Sky…) but that’s no worse than Star Trek: Voyager and still more realistic than Sliders. The only time I saked myself “what the hell is this show’s problem?!?” was when I was watching Lexx 1.2: Super Nova and the sun started talking. Lexx is a good show.

There are real glowing birds, read Charles Fort’s works!

If the show were really accurate there would be Grey. It has fictional aliens so Grey should be included since they are the only real aliens we know about.

Yeah, that’s a good point DalekTek. I still don’t get the whole talking stars thing. HEY!! Let’s tell Sad to ask Lex that question!!

Season 4 is definitely a departure from the previous seasons. I have been enjoying the differences, but there is an underlying feeling of staleness. It is understandable. Personally, I don’t have enough imagination for one season, let alone four.

One of the things I love about Lexx is that it’s *ludicrous* and doesn’t ask you to take it seriously! Takes me off to La-La land without any illegal substances.
