Just seen my taped “Midsummer Nightmare”. To all those who didnt like it….Whats wrong with you people???!??? It was excellent. Funny, a Good Story and a song or two. What more do you want. Its good to see Lexx heading into new areas and going weird again. Superb.
I completely agree. It was supurbly mad. I love the slant they took on the characters. Brilliantly acted. To be so light in tone, it’s in my oppinion the best episode yet.
I immagine those with distaste for it had one or more of several reasons: It was mostly about Stan. There wasn’t much of Kai in it and what there was he was made to be a fool. I can see someone with homophobic tendencies being offended. It may have also offended Shakespeare snobs who don’t like the great works to be lampooned.
However I think it was tightly written and paced. Very clever and took great advantage of the crew being on Earth. Stan really is a great character and it showed in this episode.
But as always I don’t see how easily offended people get into watching LEXX to begin with.
You think Midsummer Nightmare is funny? I’ll admit that I haven’t even seen Fluff Daddy yet – and I can also tell you that it’s on tonight on TV1 – but I’ve read reviews and it sounds awful.
But I’ll tell you something funny…. we’re doing that rip-off version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and my friend, a Lexx fan, is playing the role of Titania! Even funnier was the look on her face when she found out about Midsummer Nightmare… can’t wait to see her face when she takes a look at Titania in Midsummer Nightmare…. heh heh.It was very entertaining! Made me laugh…and wince, several times! I must say that I do miss the *dark* tone of earlier Lexx episodes. H.R. Pufinstuff???? Those singing trees….Where was Freddy the Flute?? Where Was WitchyPoo? Hee! Looking forward to “Bad Carrot” and wondering if it will live up to the hype.
Midsummer’s Nightmare is currently number 2 on my list of favorite episodes (not as good as Brigadoom, but close, well, not even close, but closer than most other episodes). I thought that the whole Oberon, Puck, and Titania thing was great, and Kai turning into a tree is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen (sort of strange that Kai’s singing was better than Xev’s for once).
I was really looking forward to Midsummer’s Nightmare. I had the privilege of being there while it was being filmed. I was in Lexx Heaven for five days. I was really impressed with everything it takes to put an episode together. Those folks in front of and behind the camera worked long, hard and sometimes frustrating hours. Nary a day passed when I wasn’t there for at least 8 hours and I arrived about two hours or more after the day’s work began. It was such a thrill to see the finished product! They put it together beautifully.
