Welp Lexx does it again. Or rather it didn’t do it again.

Moss failed to get an 0.8 or higher. Heres the ratings:
    SHOW HHR
    Chameleon 2 1.1
    The Chronicle 1.1
    Chameleon 3 1.1
    Dune 1.0
    The Shadow 1.0
    Virus 0.9
    Octopus 0.8
    Star Trek 0.7
    Chameleon 0.7
    Crocodile 0.7

    Want some strange?

Thats Sci-fis big plug with Lexx, thats how they try to get new viewership.

Granted they are finally plugging the hell out of Lexx albeit far too late but typically things described as Strange dont grab my attention.

    “Groundbreaking special effects”
“Science-Fiction not seen since Red Dwarf”

quotes like that I think might be more productive than

“Want some Strange? Have some Lexx”

In any event, this doesent bode well for a spinoff and I dont know WTF people are thinking watching movies like Chameleon and Crocodile ๐Ÿ˜›

Thanks for the ratings updates Hh

    Good one Lexxlurker!

Scifi never did a good job plugging lexx. Only during the second half of s4 did they finally give it some ad spots. Which they only showed frequently during the first few weeks of it return.
Ironiocally Lexx did twice as better with zero advertising then it is with all the advertising its getting now (Err was getting). Currently it’s still better then it was for s2 and s3.

Scifi’s real problem with Lexx ads is how they do them; completely wrong! Only one lexx ad has ever made me want to watch the show. (That was the ad they showed breifly to start off s4, okay and maybe The Game ad) Scifi’s lexx ads concentrate on the brainless sex portion of the show. Which anyone who’s watched a few epsiodes, knows is not what lexx is about.
Last week we saw that girl flirting with Kai. That was like 5 min out of the whole epsiode and far from the real plot. In Dutch Treat we saw the intro to Xev and Bunny getting it on. That was the last 2 min of the episode, it had nothing to do with the plot of the episode. If it’s really necessary I’ll post other examples later if any one needs em. (I don’t feel like typing this rant all night)
With ads like this its no wonder why chronicle fans at scifi.com/chronicle, think lexx is senseless stupid sex humour. If they were to watch an episode they’d realize how similar their show is to lexx in terms of oddball humour.
With so many sex filled ads, I personaly wonder how DT ever came accross this show.

Scifi just doesn’t **** up ads for lexx.
They also do it to their favorite show Farscape. Take this weeks episode which they adverstise as the one where John and Aeryn (Moya crew and Tayln Crew) get back together. Again this is the last 5 min of the show. The real plot has to do with more escaped Pk prisoners. Scifi chooses to concentrate on the shows sexual side as opposed to its real programming.

Spin Off?! Ha! I gave up on that idea weeks ago when lexx couldn’t even break a 0.8.

    Want some strange?
    Have some lexx.

Personally I prefer the 2am lead in..
    Explore your lexxuality,
    Enhance your lexx appeal,
And experince the joys of lexx.

It seems I’ve acquired a reputation on this board. I just saw a preview in 1999 with a space ship and shots of robots and aliens. I figured “Hey, another Star Trek-style show! I hope this one’s better than Farscape.”

I don’t think it was a good idea on Sci-Fi’s part to focus on the sex and weirdness. It gives the show a distorted image. Like once when I mentioned I watched Lexx one of the people present (the only one who had heard of it) was shocked because she thought Lexx was “soft-core porn for geeks.”

If I were to write the promotional ads they would be different.

“See all the wonders the universes have to offer.”
“Explore Earth throught the lens of Lexx.”
    And so forth.

Unfortunately, the people who DO write the promotional ads are AD/PR people who wanted to be in the entertainment business, but (a) either can’t hack it or (b) want to make more money than your average producer/director/actor shmuck.

Remember, a lot of these guys come from the same breed of thinkers that come up with promo spots like this ol’ favorite:

“Is something in your home killing your children right now? Watch Channel 2 News at 11 to find out! Then Leno has Tom Cruise and Sting!”

Of course, they’re also known for hacking a movie to bits just to come up with a few out of context one liners and expressions to edit together to promote a picture they believe “the audience would really like to see.”

Like any industry, though, most guys are pretty straight foward and good at their job, its just that some like to use razor blades as mental floss.

I’m not sure its appropriate that we blame the television network for Lexx’s recent lacklustre performance. There is only so much you can butt plug a show that gave the APPEARANCE of losing the plot during the course of the fourth season. Even die hard fanatics – moderators such as Sad geezer and Rachel (at lexx.com) – have indicated that the season has been quite the endurance test. Other fans have been very vocal about their own disappointment, and ‘announced’ their intention not to watch again (Lily and Bowcatz immediately come to mind). It seems to me that not only is Lexx not building its core audience, it appears to be erasing an existing fan base. Perhaps my remarks will be construed as trolling (again), but the decline in ratings speak for themselves. The season return via ‘Midsummer’ could even be construed as commercial suicide, and subsequent ratings merely an extended suicide note. I just hope that the freefall has stopped. Its a shame really, because my own enthusiasm has returned with a vengeance and I hope other disgrunglted viewers feel similarly. Mort was encouraging, and Moss was stupendous. Given the way everyone has been talking about the Game, I can’t wait to see it and watch it over and over again. Hopefully, the ‘vibe’ generated from this episode has also found its way to others.

…or the show is distilling an even more hard-core (pun intended) cult of fanatical following of science-fiction viewers!

Again, I say wait until the final episode airs. The Game was pretty good, right? The final episode ought to be at least as good.

I’m going to have to agree with Bonnee on this one. All the advertsing in the world couldn’t have helps this season’s bad and bland epsiodes. I DO blame scifi for the other seasons though, and some select epsiodes of this season, y’know when LEXX was excellent.

There is only so much you can butt plug a show rofl, I’ll have to remember to use that one later on.

    Okay, ranting continued:

What really burned me was that ad, when the second season of Lexx was airing, that kept saying “sex.” It implied that all the show was about was sex. And what’s even more messed up was, in the add they would show short sexuallike clips from the show with the “sex” part, but the last one was of the Lexx eating something. THE LEXX’S MOUTH IS NOT SEXY! Who puts those things together?!?

Maybe they could confuse viewers by ending one of their schizo-voyeuristic promos with a clip from Woz: “The sick need for penetration turns your brain to mush!”

OK, I’m going to be a bit cynical here so take it for what it’s worth:

SciFi ain’t gonna move heaven and earth (read that as spend money) promoting a show that they know is ending anyway.

The few times they promoted Lexx intensively on-air was probably because they couldn’t sell the ad time and so had extra 15 or 30 seconds spots open.

The hiatus was too long, Episodes 11, 12 and 13 were not good episodes to draw in casual fans. I get the feeling at times that the Beans, knowing this is their final season are pretty much doing what they want to do, are experimenting a bit, and are not particularly focussed on expanding the fan base either.

In any case, I’ve found the previous seasons much more effective seen as a whole rather than judged episode by episode–the inconsistency in individual episodes can leave you scratching your head but the over-all vision of each season is astounding. I expect the same thing to happen with Season 4–but someone who’s just discovered the show as of 4.11 is not going to have any sense of that and won’t have enough time to figure it out anyway.

Finally, the spin-off talk always seemed pretty much a pipe dream to me. The Beans never sounded particularly interested, and I don’t know why SciFi
Channel would be either–considering their lack of attention to the original series.
