KeymasterHi,
It’s possible I might be able to get a short interview with Paul Donovan (prolly by email). It’s not definite by any means but I’ve had a positive comment by the ‘powers that be’ that other interviews might be possible also.
I need your help though. That is, what sort of questions would you like asked?
Please post your questions here and I’ll make sure he sees them. If he has time to answer the questions I send, I’ll create a page for the answers and (credit your names for the questions o’course).
Waddaya think?

GuestCool a chance to ask the head bean him self!
1)If there are going to be movies after the series will they be on the big screen?
2)How many guest stars from Lexx series 1,2, and 3 will be comeing back in series four.
3)Will Stan ultimatly have to settle for a holographic woman?24th July 2001 at 10:21 am #48859Anonymous
GuestOne lite one heavey:
1) Was that Michael McManus doubling for the the guy that played Dale in “Texx Lexx”?
2) I’ve heard from a few people that if SciFi picks up a 5th season of LEXX that Lex G. and Michael McManus will not be back.
Well, I’m tired.. that’s all I can think up for now.
24th July 2001 at 4:34 pm #48860Anonymous
Guest1. Paul, what’s your favorite color, dude?
(hey, I’m warming up!)2. You said Season Four would be it. Now, if it’s an overwhelming commercial success, which it very well may be (the show so far has been great!), will you continue on with the series or make another large screen “Lexx?”
3. Can we have some more actors of color on Lexx, besides headless, buttcheek-showing, psychotic robot bodies? If it wasn’t for the Wozzard(and that one doc in “Terminal”), I’d think there were NO people of color up there and I know there are, Paul. I saw ’em!
And, if you’re truly hard up, I gladly volunteer to be decapitated/eviscerated/vaporised/blown-up/atomized/etc. as a representative of people of color everywhere. 4. Paul, how come none of your stars know you have officially licensed trading cards? Do you know? When I asked them to autograph them, they looked at me (and them) like I was holding out a Latin tablet. (BTW, tell Mr. McManus if he doesn’t send my last card back, I shall have to be faced with a serious case of a lack of closure and desperate measures will have to be taken: Brian, sneak into McManus’ dressing room and swipe back my trading card! I didn’t say smart measures, I said desperate.
5. Are you concurrently working on any feature films or is Lexx consuming all of your creative energies at this time? (I discovered Lexx through your other works, while searching for more stuff directed/written by you. (fawning shamelessly )
6. Okay, that’s enough for now, unless you want to give away the end of season four and confirm whether or not the Divine Order is reintroduced? (SPOIL US!!!!) (Seriously, Paul, missed ya at UnCon; love yer show )

There is no character, howsoever good and fine, but it can be destroyed by ridicule, howsoever poor and witless. Observe the ass, for instance: his character is about perfect, he is the choicest spirit among all the humbler animals, yet see what ridicule has brought him to. Instead of feeling
complimented when we are called an ass, we are left in doubt. (Twain)25th July 2001 at 3:46 am #48861Anonymous
GuestCool, thanks Sadgeezer! Burning questions of the day:
1) If you were a tree, what kind…j/k
2) Has Lexx changed much from your original vision?
3) Water, though outwardly pleasant, was as mindlessly repetitive as Fire. What did it all mean?
Love the show!

InactiveWell, I’d ask two updates from the last Q&A:
1) Are there still no plans to finish the book?
2) Will there be a series 5?
oh, and since it’s come up recently on ATL:
What was the Blue Star in Supernova and where did it come from?
25th July 2001 at 8:39 pm #48865lizard
ParticipantI have a question for any of the writers:
After three series, do you ever feel stifled by the need to be consistent with everything that went before? Or do you just let it flow?
25th July 2001 at 11:31 pm #48866Anonymous
GuestWill there be a Season 5???
26th July 2001 at 1:48 am #48867crusader
Participant1. I have heard that you will leave the LEXX team after series 4! Is that true?
2. How long forverd did you plan the series? Had you planed some of the things and main storry in series 2 and 3 from the start?
If not, when did you get the ides?3. We have debating about a thing for some time now! Was the essence His Shadow and made Mantrid a sort of His Shadow or was the essence just something that made Mantrid change body?
4. Something more that we descused! What did the butterfly that Xev found in series 2 mean? Some of us thought it could be the incects rebirth and some even thought that the essence went from Mantrid to the butterfly making it the start of a new incect! (Maybe evalved after 4000 years)
5. What is your favorite LEXX episode? Carakter? Some outher favorite LEXX thing?
Cant think of more! Please take the first 3 atleast!

GuestHere’s a few you can ask him for me.
1. As a storyteller how do you feel about fans creating their own stories based upon your characters and themes? Do you consider it a compliment or as in the case of Anne Rice you consider it an afront and insist that your characters not be used in fan fiction?
2. What’s the funniest thing that has happened during production of Season 4 or during Lexx’s whole run?
I’ll send more later but wanted to get these out there.

GuestA couple of questions from a devout UK fan:
1)We want a Lexx big screen outing…will you give us one?
2)Can you change your marketing outfit to give Lexx more exposure?…hardly anyone in the UK get’s to see Lexx, as they show it too late.
3)Do you think you have done enough with Lexx, or have you plenty more inspirational stories to come up with.
4)Would you ever consider a spin-off of Lexx, something like a series based around Kai…certainly give Angel a run for his money, maybe leave Kai on the ‘little blue planet’ to do his hero stuff!!!
Best of luck in all your future endeavours and I hope you will continue with the fresh and lively Lexx for a long time to come…you can never have enough of a good thing.
Squishy.

GuestSorry, one more question for Paul:
After seeing the first ever movie of Lexx, I was left with a feeling I had not felt about a Sci-fi movie since Star Wars. It struck me that like Star Wars, Lexx brought a new type of Sci-fi to the screen and was like a breath of fresh air to a stale genre…Was it your intent to make the Sci-fi community to sit up and take notice, or did you just feel that you had a great story and that would be enough for you?——————

GuestWHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR US TO SEE A SEASON 5?!
If and when Lexx ends, will you write Lexx books?
Is the Lexx male or female?
What will you do after Lexx?
27th July 2001 at 10:30 pm #48872Anonymous
InactiveWell, I can answer most of that last lot of questions straight from the last ‘interview’ I saw..
quote
WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR US TO SEE A SEASON 5?!
[15:26:12] <Briseis> How many seasons of Lexx can we expect before it comes to a complete end?
[15:30:35] <Righty> Briseis – Paul sez “One more maximum, before I come to a complete end”quote
If and when Lexx ends, will you write Lexx books?
[15:55:55] <Cat> Paul, is there any chance of the Lexx book that was talked about getting written?
[16:08:59] <Righty> Cat – Paul sez “Not much”quote
Is the Lexx male or female?
[15:42:28] <SEclipse> Is the lexx Asexual?
[15:54:21] <Righty> SEclipse – Paul sez “Lexx is all man”… MM sez “Except in Germany, where he’s all girl”28th July 2001 at 7:14 pm #48874Anonymous
InactiveThere was a Lexx book in the works, advertised on Amazon and everything, but it was cancelled, basically because Paul never wrote it/finished it and doesn’t seem interested in picking it up again.

ParticipantI think what they are filming now is a season 4/5 kind of thing. Is that true?
Also how does the purchase of Salter Street affect Mr. Donovan and Lexx. Is it going to be good? In What Ways? Or is it a possible problem in the future?

Guest1) The Lexx novels… I can understand the need for the books not to get ahead of the series, but still; Are there any in the works? If not, can I write them?
2) What, exactly, do you all have against bald German men? Whether it’s Dr. Kazaan, the bloke from Luvliner, or galaxy-gobbling Mantrid himself, there’s a frankly disturbing number of them being viciously evil in some way or another…
3) Please, please, please, get 790 hurled off the bridge and LEAVE him there. I know this isn’t a question, but it really has to be said.

InactiveWhat is (or will be after the hiatus) filming now is Series/Season 4, filming of which is due to end around spring time next year.
I seem to remember everyone at Salter being pleased at the aquisition by Alliance, although probably not those who lost their jobs though (I’ve lost track of who is and isn’t working for Salter and Lexx these days)

Don’t expect a response too quickly though. He’s not actually said he would do an interview (just that he might be open to it).

ACK! am I too late? This question popped in my head just yesterday:
Since there is so much cutting of scenes for violence in one country and nudity, sex in another country, which editing ticks you off more?
What would happen in a Lexx episode if you could film it knowing absolutely no editing or cutting would take place?

InactiveSomething else which has been asked a lot but never, to my knowledge, satisfactorily answered is why in IWHS Stanley states that the Lexx was grown from amino acids in his tooth, while we later find out that the amino acid codes were the codes to open the barrier around the Reformed Planets, and Brizon claims to have designed the Lexx. If there were two sets of codes in that one tooth, how did Brizon’s plans get in the hands of the Austral-B?

ParticipantOK, now I’m majorly confused. I thought they would be filming until the Spring of 2002?
I also had heard that they were just taking a hiatus in October.
How mis-informed am I?

GuestAsk him………WHERE I CAN GET STICKERS?! jkjk, 1. Have you ever been so confused by story arcs that you didn’t wanna go into work the next day?
21st September 2001 at 7:14 pm #48890Anonymous
GuestFX, could you ask Paul if he ever ribs MM and Xenia on their sex appeal to the fans?
And could you ask if they ever play practical jokes on each other, and if so, what sort of thing do they get up too?
Oh, and did Lex and Jeff play their parts because it was cheaper for them to play it, or was it because they wanted to play an active part in the stories?
And when MM first saw the head piece he had to wear, did he have any reservations about it?
And did you ever worry that the German accent would be a problem in a Sci-Fi show?
And where did the inspiration come from for Lexx, did it have any links with a book or another Sci-Fi series?
Okay Squishy best stop now, I hope you enjoy your time there FX, and Squishy is dead jealous!!!

Participantokay, reviewed scribbles and think i have clarification: way back when we were setting up this interview, we were having trouble finding a date where paul, lex and mamabear would all be in one place, as well as the cast and crew…the problem being that mamabear will be starting a new job, paul will be going to asia for a new project at the end of october, and the schedule is kind of rushed, especially with delays inflicted from the last couple of weeks…so oct4,5 is the last time we could be relatively certain to have almost everyone in one place…since things are starting to wind down…as to the actual end of filming, that is still unclear…but will let you know when we know, so i hope that clears up some of the confusion

Participantyes, thank you very much FX.
Now that I’ve rewatched Vlad, you must promise to corner one of those CGI folks and tor…erm..kindly ask if the percentage of CGI shots has gone up this season.
Also, where did they get the inspiration for the castle?
Everyday, the more I realize how much of the episodes are possibly CGI, the more amazed I get. It’s just astounding.

actually, mamabear does occasionally make appearances here, especially when we are totally out of control with the theorizing …
OKAY, big announcement here, i just spoke to mamabear today and it appears my original statement was correct
Principal filming for LEXX ends OCT 5th!
There will be location shots in asia, particularly episodes 4.20 and 4.23, but the electropolis studio shooting ends OCT 5thMost of the work should be done in november, then there will be post production, tying up loose ends, doing all the stuff that is a mystery to most of us
Today was mamabear’s last day at salter; given the imminent end of this incredible show, she is really only a couple of weeks ‘ahead of the curve’ as she said…for those of you who are new to the lexx world, mamabear has been indispensible not only to salter and lexx, but to us here at the sadboard; she is a neat wonderful funny smart lady and we wish her well in her new projects…
so there you are folks, sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but watch it while you can because after this season ends, it’s all reruns…love fx

what i had heard as well, september to october doesn’t seem long enough to complete the rest of the episodes, so little bird may have misunderstood my question;i will query the little bird again…we were told they were on hiatus from june to september, but according to pat’s site they were filming in england at the end of june, so maybe the rest of the filming is location and cgi? anyway, enough musing, i will clarify for you today, okay? gosh, these guys do get a lot of hiatuses don’t they? Guest1. If you decide to finish Lexx with Season 4 for good would you be willing to sell the rights, characters etc. to another production company so another Series could be made?
2. If you were to make a Spin-Off series do you have any good ideas what it would be about?
thanks,
