Have you seen or heard of any interesting Prisoner references in TV shows, movies, books, songs etc.?
Some of you will no doubt have seen The Simpsons episode “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes:”
Number 6: Welcome friend. I’m Number 6.
Number 15: I’m Number 15. What number are you?
Homer: I am not a number! I am a man! And don’t you eve… oh wait, I’m Number 5. Ha-ha. In your face, Number 6!And during my research I came across something called The Laughing Prisoner written by and starring Stephen Fry (Black Adder, Geeves and Wuster, Fry and Laurie):
“He’s known more Number 2s than the gentleman’s lavatory at Waterloo Station!” (The new No. 2 talking about No. 6)
And while looking for Prisoner links I came across this movie summary. Honestly. I wouldn’t normally be looking at sites that worud carry such titles! 😳
The Prisoner of Sex
Drake a member of the porn community, who tries to quit the business, wakes up in a strange place called “The Colony”- a village populated by other former members of the porn business who tried to quit and found there was no way to walk away from their pasts. Now Drake has been assigned the number 69, and she is constantly being tempted with sex to tell why she quit the business. Will the leaders of “The Colony” break #69? – Or will he find a way out of this gilded cage?”
Btw, anyone notice the short clip from Arrival in that chase sequence near the end of The Matrix? Any others people can think of?

Pretty arcane for a porno flick. Why is it your research always takes you down such disturbed roads? 😉 And where’s the link?
I have no examples by the way. To find any I’d have to watch TV and pay attention at the same time. It’s a lot to ask! 🙄
I’ll see what I can do.elmey

Be Seeing You: The high-ranking telepaths on Babylon 5 use the Village salute “Be Seeing You”.
The Chair: Simon Cowell appeared in a white Number 2 chair in last fall’s American Idol teaser ad. The Number 2 chair was also used in Austin Powers, wasn’t it?
Rover: Rover has appeared in 2 Simpsons episodes, The Computer Wore Menace Shoes, of course, and the one where the Simpsons join the cult (name I don’t remember). Some little Rover-like things were bouncing around in a Space:1999 episode, thought I think they contained information and weren’t guarding. For the life of me I can’t remember which one it was.
Other Villages: The Invisible Man featured a resignation episode that deliciously paralleled “Arrival”. Then there’s the Truman Show… and Nowhere Man….
Interrogation and Intimidation: The Pretender, John Doe and Farscape have done quite a few things which pieced together feel like Prisoner references to me. There are too many for me to pick out here, however, it’s probably best left to fans of those shows.
Four people I know independently recognized John Critonisms in the “Dreamy Party” scene of A, B and C, one eventually compared it to the season 2 episode: Won’t Get Fooled Again, like many episodes of the Prisoner it includes literary references as well (Hamlet in this case). http://www.farscapefantasy.com/215.html

4th June 2003 at 5:42 pm #66531AnonymousGuestDon’t feel bad, Sad. The porn industry does spoofs of TV shows and movies all the time. I have to laugh when ever I watch “Fluffdaddy” (veering into LEXX territory for the moment) because there really *IS* a porn called “Deep Space 69” and I’ve got a copy!!!!

Elmey, I think it’s the kind of thing they put on the Mystery Smut Channel. 😉 I wonder if they call the person who is Number One Mysterious Mr. XXX?
BTW, my quenchless thirst for knowledge does take a lot of twists, ahh, sick and twisted turns, but anything for The Prisoner — I’d even watch it if I felt I could garner some good insight from it! 😯 As for the link, have PMed it, it’s actually completely tame, but since it’s part of a very adult site… Pretty funny though I thought. 😀

Hey MM, could I get a copy? 😉 I’m not really a big Deep Space 9 fan, but I’m always willing to try new things, and it might even be educational 😉 (always looking for new takes on old sci-fi genres).

Indeed I have :), thanks for biting Pet, but OUCH! 😉
Lots of good ones! But I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Rover reference in the TeleTubbies 😉 (that was hilarious btw :D).
That Babylon 5 one is pretty cool. As some of the Babylon 5 fans here probably know (are Babylon 5 fans called Babblers?), J. Michael Straczynski is a big fan of The Prisoner — he really wanted to work with P. McGoohan too.
Be seeing you!
