KeymasterWhy do some of the DVDs cost less than others? Do they all have the featurettes or is that the reasoh for the price difference?
I’m just a poor college student who has to shop around alot to spend as little as I can, otherwise I’d just buy Acorn’s.

Hmmm…Interesting question, but I can’t think of a reason *why* the costs are different…In fact, I didn’t know that there *were* any price differences. I know that the Season 1 discs have a different cost, but all of the Season 2 discs have a Suggested Retail Price of $29.95. Now, you may be looking at the Canadian releases, which have a SRP of $29.95 CA, but with discounts end up being cheaper. The reason for this is that the Canadian rights are held by Koch. Koch are distributing the same discs as Acorn, and are acting in cooperation with us on the releases, but we couldn’t ask them to raise the Canadian price to over $40 just to eliminate cross-border sales (Canadian retailers aren’t supposed to sell them to US residents). I’ve been adamant about asking people *not* to try and buy the Canadian releases if they’re US residents, because it skews the sales toward Koch, and Acorn would be less likely to do Seasons 3 & 4 if the 2nd season discs didn’t sell in this country. Of course, we’re doing Season 3, the S2 discs have been tremendous sellers, and I wouldn’t put it past us to do Season 4. Hell, the way these have been selling, we’d be stupid *not* to put them out, unless something catastrophic happens with sales of S3. I still suggest finding decent prices from US-based companies just the same, though.
For example, deepdiscountdvd.com (I just found this out recently) is offering them for 17.98 with free shipping, which is cheaper than a lot of Canadian-based places when you factor in shipping costs.
Also, because the majority of the S3 discs will feature 3 episodes instead of 4 (the first one has 4 eps), we’re reducing the price on these discs to $24.95, which should mean lower prices in general from the majority of online retailers. As always, shop around and find a good deal.

Deep discount has the featurettes. The only Season 2 DVDs on the market right now are the ones being sold. The prices on different sites (even within the US) depend on what kind of deals they can get from their wholesale distributor, how many they order to sell, what other products they can make up the difference on (like those ultra-cheap below-wholesale-cost prices that Best Buy used to have…they would make up the difference on high-ticket items with a larger markup), etc. But rest assured, all the DVDs you see out there (Season 2, that is) are identical.
