This is not joke. I am not kidding. This is really weird stuff. You know those blow-up plastic sex dolls that have been around for years? The industry just became high-tech. I couldn’t believe my eyes because I was essentially looking at primative replicants like in the movie Blade Runner.

I will NOT post a link to the website because it is semi-pornographic. (You can serch for it yourself, if you want.) But here is a quote from their introduction:

    quote:

Welcome to the exciting world of REALDOLL! Since 1996, we have been using Hollywood special effects technology to produce the most realistic love doll in the world. Our dolls feature completely articulated skeletons which allow for anatomically correct positioning, an exclusive blend of the most expensive silicone rubbers for an ultra-flesh like feel, and are each custom made to order, to our customer’s specifications. We offer an extensive list of options, from body type and head type all the way down to fingernail color. If you’ve ever dreamed of creating your ideal woman, then you have come to the right place.

(FYI, I discovered the website via links on the Church of the Subgenius site– not from surfing for porn!)

Replicants are not that far off in the future. Yes, people have been saying that for decades. But the reality is coming closer than I’ve ever imagined. Take a look at the latest robot being developed in Japan:

They are getting close to constructing robots that can walk (FYI, an amazing feat of engineering!), interact with the environment, and work with humans. Miniaturize the mechanics, place them in a silicon gel skin… replicants.

A friend of mine told me about this site fer a laugh, but I must admit I was taken aback at how real they actually look.
I always thought these dolls were gonna be really unconvincing, but these are scary in their realism.
You’d never see me buying one though, you’d never live it down, I think I’ll stick with the blow up sheep!!!

I saw this also. From another board, this news story:
    http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20020326/od/sexdoll_dc_1.html
MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) – A Munich man suspected of murder after he was seen carrying what a neighbor thought was a dead body into his apartment was cleared after he showed police his collection of rubber sex dolls.

A police spokeswoman said Tuesday the neighbor called to say he saw the man carrying a “corpse” into the apartment. Police responding to the call found the suspect to be ”surprised and disturbed” by their questions at first.

“When the officers then told the man they were investigating a murder he showed them his newly acquired silicon sex doll,” the spokeswoman said.

“The man also showed the officers four other inflatable sex dolls he owns. Apparently, he had just been testing out his new acquisition when police arrived.”

The spokeswoman said the police then left the apartment and closed the file. “They didn’t want to disturb him any longer,” the spokeswoman said.

I suspect it might of been one of those “dolls.” I really think those things are weird …erm..just a load of thoughts.

I’ve seen a program on people with caved in features (because of accidents or disease) that benefitted from such technology. They were fitted for masks for cosmetic appearances so they felt better about being in public or seeing old freinds. There are some wonderful, helpful sides to this technology.

I haven’t decided what my opinion on the dolls is.
