ok, so ignore the spelling…. 🙄
i caught something the other day on the radio about a new sci-fi series from Martin Scorsese (jumping on Speilberg’s bandwagon!). a 12-part series(?) possibly coming out next year, to do with an FBI agent investigating/trying to prevent the Apocalypse on the 12th day of Christmas. i was intrigued by this. what do any of you guys know about it? do you think it will be something worth waiting for? 🙂

    From Reuters:
The latest star to enter Sci Fi Channel’s creative orbit is better known for “GoodFellas” than green fellas. Filmmaker Martin Scorsese has signed on to executive produce a Sci Fi Channel miniseries targeted to premiere in 2005.

Titled “The Twelve,” the miniseries chronicles an FBI agent’s confrontation with a bizarre series of events he suspects to be signs of an impending apocalypse timed for the Twelfth Day of Christmas. “Twelve” will run at least six hours, with its exact scheduling yet to be determined.

While “Twelve” marks the Oscar-nominated Scorsese’s first foray into scripted longform television, luring A-list producers for longform projects is becoming routine business at Sci Fi… [read full story HERE! Could be an interesting project. Frankly an Executive Producer credit often doesn’t mean terribly much in the media (creatively speaking or otherwise). Sometimes the credit is offered as a sinecure, and sometimes just so there’s a big name attached to a project — cache. I certainly was no fan of Taken, and I’m generally a bigger admirer of Scorsese than Spielberg (loved Close Encounters and some other Spiel… films ‘though, but just a little overly commercial, sentimental, and sacharine for my taste), so I can only hope that Scorsese wouldn’t have his name attached to a project that he wasn’t excited about. I must say that Scorsese seems to be getting more and more commercial. Anyway, I don’t really know enough yet to have any expectations, if he can get De Niro on board. 😆

This is interesting, from the same article:
“Twelve” was originally written by David Pirie as a series of one-hour scripts for the BBC. Pirie remains involved with “Twelve,” though another writer will be brought in.
Ah, makes me wonder if this is the Hollywoodification of yet another script. Even worse, now here’s a scary thought, the Sci Fi Channelification of it. 😯 Or perhaps the original scripts just weren’t good enough for the BBC, so they were sold to SciFi to be “improved”. Hmmm…

it does sound interesting, though i must admit a slight twitch when you mentioned “BBC” and “Hollywoodification”. Hollywood seems to have an awful habit of making a right hatchet job of even a half-decent Brit script….
was it Scorcese that did ‘Wild Palms’? i particularly enjoyed that (at least at the time, anyway…) 🙂

Oliver Stone was Exec. Producer of Wild Palms

I agree that Scifichannelization of the script would be a considerable worry–I tend to get a bit queasy also with the religious overtones–12th day of Christmas/Apocalypse etc., but that’s a personal quirk.

thanks- i knew it was one of the big directors/producers that did ‘Wild Palms’- just couldn’t remember which one! 🙂
hadn’t considered any potential religious overtones to do with this new show- was having horrible visions of the apocalypse being brought about by 12 lords-a-leaping, a-la the Staypuft Marshmellow man from Ghostbusters, though!!!! (was it 12 lords-a-leaping?? 🙄 )
