To the company with the pointy hat..
Alliance Atlantis has aquired Salter Street films, the makers of Lexx.
Read the full story on Salters Press Release and let us know what you think of this surprising news.

From what I can tell, the buyout isn’t affecting any of the day-to-day operations of Salter. It also won’t hurt their relationship with the Sci Fi Channel, since Alliance Atlantis has at least one series currently in development for them, Philip Jose Farmer’s “Riverworld.” It basically just looks like it’s the corporate guys that are changing around, and not affecting the creative end of things.

Although I’m happy got Donovan and Company, I can’t help but think their acquisition of Salter may not neccessarily be a good thing for Lexx. Alliance is associated with the Roddenberry Cadre and Majel will be hard pressed not to put her own fingerprint on the shows produced by Salter. Lexx certainly does not fit her mold. I suspect we will not see a season 5 for Lexx. Perhaps it is just as well, Star Trek was a little pathetic by the end of the last motion picture they did. It made me kinda sad. Time will tell about the potential new direction Salter may take.

I just did a search on IMDb to see what stuff Alliance Atlantis had done, and I’m not really worried about Majel’s influence. They’ve had their hands in a lot of projects that don’t fit the Roddenberry mode, like the films “Jesus’ Son” and “eXistenZ,” to name a couple. Any company that finances a David Cronenberg movie is okay in my book.

I’m with Aleck. It may not be such a bad thing, especially if Lexx is making money for the company. Sure, they’re down in the ratings now, but the Monday time slot and lack of promotion by SciFi could have something to do with that.

But anyway, if Lexx is profitable, Alliance will be hard pressed to give it the boot because of so-called “moral outrage.” It’s all about the Benjamins (or Canadian equivalent ) and there’s really nothing more risque on Lexx than you would find on, say, NYPD Blue (envelope-pushin’, fat guy ass-barin’, salty language-talkin’ US cop show for those of you who don’t know ).

I suppose whether or not Lexx continues into a 5th season would depend on Donovan’s desire to do it, the actors’ schedules, etc.

When I visit this bored and read these comments I have this thought… If I was commanding the Lexx, I’d have all your brains with me, the hell with those divine shadows…

(NB 1 goes in corner, sits cross-legged with chin in hand pondering with awe intelligence of said Lexxians . . . . )

Oh, man…Cronenberg!!! The Brood is one of my favorites. Great turn by Oliver Reed in that one, and the kids! THE KIDS!!! Yoinks! Oh, and I feel sorry for anyone that has to sit through a TV viewing of Videodrome. Just how does one show a film dealing heavily with S&M/snuff/porn on television? And aren’t the TV programmers kind of missing one of the key points of the movie? And then there’s Scanners (ignore the sequels) and a great performance by Patrick “The Prisoner” McGoohan. Plus, there’s people blowin’ up! Blowin’ up reeeal good! (Channeling the spirits of Big Jim McBob and Billy Saul Hurok from “Farm Film Report”…obscure reference there…free meat pie to the first to Name That Show)

Until next time, may the good lord take a likin’ to ya, and blow you up real soon!

    ULP!
oh dear, ‘fraid I always get a bit fearful during corporate takeovers. *wrinkles her brow* We’ll survive. Another season, and then, well, maybe we’ll have some new blood working for Lexx, and they’ll revitalize it. I dunno. I just hope we don’t lose any of our precious peeps at Salter; we love you everyone!

Beef! I like beef meatpies, Aleck!!! SCTV!! I love it!!! “Blowed up Real Good!” Hah!! SCTV! Grimley! Bob and Doug, eh! Edith Prickley! And, of course, Guy. That was one of my favorite shows!

Oh, and creepily enough, I met my first true love at a showing of “The Brood.” (and, that in itself should have been warning enow ) It would’ve been more romantic, if I didn’t have to keep wincing! That was the one with Samantha oh-my-career-is-really-in-the-toilet-now-Egger, right?

Hah! I never saw Existenz but I remember flunking (or, maybe I passed) that litmus test during a filming of Clockwork Orange. I laughed through most of the film and then got sad near the end. My date’s reactions were almost the mirror opposite!

Any surprise that Croney-baby was having domestic problems at the time? I mean, you couldn’t tell from *this* movie, that’s for sure.

I think so, too, but I don’t think that eXistenZ is supposed to be chilling, per se. It’s more ironic than Videodrome, and has more of a warm tone (if you can say that any Cronenberg film is warm).

Oh, totally. If two people can’t find joy in certain of the same things (film and books being a prime example, as their influence and the influences on them can range to so many other areas in life), then their chances of compatability are damn near nil.

One meat pie is being expressed directly to your door!
They’re showing SCTV here in the US on NBC in “Later”‘s time slot, BTW. Only a crummy half-hour version of it, with lots of the funnier bits snipped out, but still…A little SCTV is better than none. Guy Caballero, Johnny LaRue, Sammy Maudlin and Bobby Bitman, and the immortal COUNT FLOYD! “Dr. Tongue’s 3-D House of Stewardesses!” Oh, the memories…
