KeymasterDunno if anyone even cares…
I liked it. Reminded me a lot of Callahans a series written by Spider Robinson about a bar and a bunch of drunks….
seriously….
oh yeah and the other thing is that they have a vampire who is the “designated driver”, Mickey Finn, an android part of an extinct race of philosopher warriors brought back to life as an assassin for the insect race(not kidding). Its a series of short stories and a few novels, plots that are brilliant etc… anyways enough pimping of literature.
It’s a shame both I-Man & the Chronicle got cancelled for shows like Strange World which really suck and have no humor to them like the above.

ParticipantI liked the chronicle, and was upset when I read that it was beign cancelled. I can’t understand why scifi would cancel now after puttign so much money into it. Especially since its one of their highest rated shows. Iman I won’t miss too much. The first seasonwas good but the second season was virtually the same episode over and over.
Strange world is not a new show and I doubt any new epsiodes will be made. The show aired a couple years ago on ABC(?) but got horrible ratings, and only showed the first three episodes. Scifi is showing all 13 produced eps.
I have no idea what’s up with scifi in 2002. After this year tehy will have 2 orginal shows. Farscape and Outer Limits. Lexx, iman, chronicle, are strange world are all over in a few weeks. SG1 is a good propect but s6 is ther last so scifi can’t milk it for another year. The only obvious prospect I see for htem in the future is b5:lotr Scifi has to have soemthing big up their sleave, or they are being exceptionally stupid this year. Or both.18th March 2002 at 9:09 am #43404Anonymous
GuestYeah they do actually.
In December Steven Spielburg is putting on a really long mini series called “Taken”
Theres a few other big events too but they slip my mind at present.
Strange World is a joke. I really think its just a filler. It was on in 1999 and it was cancelled after 2 episodes for a very good reason. It sucked. Yet funny how Sci-Fi described it as a series not given any chance. Like the chronicle…
You’re right on the button with Chronicle. It wasent the best show but they didnt even give it a full season. Series 1 was probably 6-10 episodes and just a teaser for this season. Then this season gets cancelled despite being their 4th-7th best show constitantly. If Lexx was judged by these measures it’d have been gone a long time ago.
Perhaps the sponsers were really upset with The Chronicle? Who knows. Either was its been a fun show. Next week brings back Farscape in its place. Not the biggest fan of Farscape but its good sci-fi compared to crap like Strange World.

ParticipantIsn’t SciFi going to make another Dune miniseries? It’s supposed to be based on the second and third Dune books. I vote they stick with it and produce the awesome God Emporer of Dune.
That reminds me. I really wish that people would construct a bowl-shaped city in some valley. Every building would have a perfect view of a raised platform in the center. And every five years I would visit the city and address all of the visiting pilgrims who behold my glorious person, dictating my philosophy and religeous dogma. That’s all I ask! Sheesh! I mean, c’mon! Is that so wrong?

GuestThe next installment is Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, with the latter being the focus and the name.
It wont be out till 2003 however.
They also are considering doing the rest of the series for Sci-fi depending on the ratings. The final book in the series will be released in a few years based off the notes and writings of Frank Herbert. His son with an editor have been writing the prequals which are pretty good. House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino. Which explain what happened just before Dune begins.
Another trilogy they are releasing will focus on the Butlerian Jihad and the fall of the Machines. While I dont consider these the real series they are worth reading.

ParticipantScifi does have a lot of movs/miniseriers comign out. The taken is goign to be huge for them. And you know what that means, the 6 weeks before it airs you will see an ad for it during EVRY COMMERCIAL BREAK. And the saem will go for other cable channels the two weeks before it airs.
They have not mentioned what tv shows will tkae the palce of the dparting ones. Which concerns me. Becasue they may give us more crap like Strange World, Black Scorpian and First Wave.
The Chronicle had only one season. Scifi only ordered a dozen episodes intially. The show got great ratings so they ordered another dozen or so. Teh fact is that the show did better on Saturdays when it aired before the Outer Limits. There is averaged 1.2. Now it gets 1.0. Why they’re cancelling it is beyond me. A one is still a great score for scifi. Lexx is the past averaged a 1.2 or 1.3. Its only gone down the toilet this season. If the beans wanted to do a s5, I doubt scifi would reknew it with ratings this low. So much for the spinoff.

ParticipantNow I remember. Scifi and Fox are co producign a new Battlestar Galatica series. Accoriding to the plan both channel will air the show at the same time. {HA!}
Its set to air this Fall.19th March 2002 at 1:40 pm #43409Anonymous
GuestI liked First Wave….
Actually thats not true. I liked the characters and the overall story, but unfortunatly there was little difference between episode X and Y. Too many are the same plot.
That’s pretty funny about Fox and Sci-Fi. Battlestar Galatica was a bright spot in an otherwise Sci-Fi lacking era. Id compare it to B5 but I’d be lynched. It will be interesting to see how they revamp it.

GuestCheers to Chronicle for doing their final ep as more of a Season Ender than a Series ender.
Jeers to Chronicle for not doing their final ep as more of a Series ender than a season ender.
It was a strange ep. Grace disapears with a newly found boyfriend into the past. We see her in a picture of post WW2 in New York at the return home party.
The rest of the crew and the Chronicle itself were arrested and shut down and there the credits rolled.
Anyone who watched enough of the series knows that the person who runs the Chronicle isnt a normal human. Its a person much like Callahan who is most likely an Alien masquerading as a Human in order to protect Earths past. So being shut down by generic cops when Aliens and fire breathing monsters couldent, doesent hold a lot of water.
Hopefully Sci-Fi will pull its head out of its arse and continue this show in lieu of **** like Strange World

Luckily, there’s only 13 episodes of strange world. And with the ratings its getting, I doubt, scifi would reknew it since its doing worse the the Chronicle, who got much better ratings.
In my heart I still have hope for the Chronicle. But I know its for nought. The cast/crew have emailed poeple and said that they couldn’t believe the weren’t renewed; and that they torn down all the sets and have parted their seperate ways. But like B5:Crusade, ther’s always alittle hope for its revival in a year or so.
For the life of me I can’t figure out WTF scifi was thinking! They had a great show with good ratings and they dropped it without giving a straight foward answer. Something doesn’t smell right!
My best guess is that the producer wanted a certain amount of money to do another season, and scifi didn’t have the $$ to make it work. This could be a result of the joint producion Battlestar Galatica with Fox; The upcoming MOW Spteven Speilberg’s Taken; scifi’s changing hands to Universal studios; or how all its recent big MOWs have been flops. (Getting half the ratings that the ads were sold for). In general 2002 has been a bad year for the scifi channel, whose seen its ratings slowly drop since December. -
