Bought the first 4 DVDs from Scarecrowvideo.com, got the first 3 DVD of Season2 from 800.com. I really dont like the idea of waiting 2-3 months for each vol to be released (release them all at once and i’ll throw down 300$ no problem). I hear some places have vol4 for sale, but the usual places (amazon, suncoast, 800, scarecrow) dont seem to have this. ETA is october!? F’that!
Where do i get the 4th Volume of Season2?
PS
Sci-Fi channel BLOWS!!! If they did a good job at airing LEXX i wouldnt have to buy the DVDs.3rd August 2001 at 2:48 am #47902AnonymousGuestBTW: Obviously I love the show, yet its really hard to find people who share the same intrest. They would rather watch Farscape (yeah right, like im gonna fear a puppet farting helium).
I see too many people going, Voyager sucks, Enterprise is gonna suck, Earth FC sucks, blah blah blah. Too bad they cant sit down and watch an episode or two.
Ive got one roomie totally addicted to LEXX, another who is warming up to it. He saw S4 E4 with Craig Charles aka Dave Lister on it and he’ll give it another go.
Oh and the episode 791 has to be one of the funniest episodes ive seen yet! And i watched it for the first time on DVD

Nobody should have any copies of the fourth volume at this point, because only the test discs have been made, as far as I know.
If you want to know why it takes a while to get these things done, let me break it down a bit. We don’t have a large crew here as we’re not one of the large studios. When it comes to making the DVDs, this is what happens. The timecodeded tapes of the four episodes featured on each DVD are screened to make edit points for each chapter break. A screen grab for each is selected to represent the chapter on the scene index page of the DVD. The chapters are named, the text for each page is created and proofed, trivia questions are written, VHS dubs of video supplements are viewed and approved and a rough outline of the DVD is sent to Salter Digital. They create the opening menu and screens for each page, which takes time as well. The screens are sent to us for approval as jpeg files, and we go through the rounds of correcting them, getting new ones back, proofing those, suggesting things (if the image doesn’t seem to work for the page, if it’s too dark) etc., until they’re right. After that is done, a rough DVD-R is created that allows us to check the functions, the menus, the supplements, the programs, etc. This process can go through a few rounds as well. Finally, after all of this is done, test discs are made, which are viewed in their entirety (over 4 hours worth) at least twice. Then, after all of that takes place, replication can happen. Now, while all of this is taking place, we’re also writing box copy for the VHS and DVD releases, approving cover designs, writing and approving drafts of sales sheets (promo flyers that are sent to video and retail stores), preparing press mailings, etc. Now, we’re not a big company. When it comes down to most of the grunt work on making these DVDs (chaptering the discs, selecting screen grabs, viewing the test discs, making notes on what needs correcting, etc.), it is done mostly by two people. And LEXX isn’t the only thing we do, so often times one person will work on LEXX (usually me) and the other person will work on something else. So, when it takes a couple of months to get a new DVD out, keep that in mind. We *could* have just done all of the discs at once, but you wouldn’t have the first 3 discs in your hands right now. You’d have to wait until much later before we could have all 5 of the discs done at the same time. And then, we’d still be rushing to have them all finished.

3rd August 2001 at 4:08 am #47904AnonymousGuestWow, I didnt know production has such a small staff. Im also suprised to see someone from production reply here. Keep up the good work, the menus for S2V3 are MUCH better than the last.
Curious, does it matter if i continue to order them from 800.com, or can i get S2V4 faster by buying them directly from Salter Street?
Keep cranking out those LEXX DVDs, I’ll buy each and everyone of them without question.

Seattle, WA3rd August 2001 at 4:11 am #47905AnonymousGuestWow! Aleck how do I get a job like that? I know it sounds like alot of work but it does sound kind of fun. By the way you guys probably don’t get paid enough for the job you do but rest assured we all appreciate it.

3rd August 2001 at 5:12 am #47906AnonymousGuestE_L, you can get them just as quick, probably, from 800.com. I don’t know if Salter sells the Season 2 DVDs to the US, as they’re based out of Canada. They probably only have access to the Koch releases (which are identical, but they have the Canadian rights…it’s a long story). Anyway, 800’s as good as anyone. Glad you like the discs, BTW. Actually, as far as the DVDs proper, it’s the two of us. As for packaging, marketing, and all fo the other stuff, there are other departments. But DVD Development is just 2 folks, and one of ’em’s me.
BTW, where in Seattle are you at? I used to live there and hang at Scarecrow all the time. Best damn video store in the country.Slop, it’s a lot of work, but it’s fun. I enjoy it quite a bit. I mean, where else am I gonna get paid to watch LEXX? And if you’re asking for career advice from me, you’re nuts. I *completely* lucked into this gig. I had just moved to the DC Metro Area (as we call it) and applied at Acorn for a customer service position, coming from 5 years working for Tower Records and film school. They were just expanding their DVD department (which was 2 people at the time *then*, but the other person was working more and more on the website and doing marketing stuff, and they needed a full-time DVD schmuck), and said that I’d probably be better qualified with that position, and here I am. It’s the best job I’ve ever had, and the only way I’ll give it up is if someone kills me. Which is why I travel with a group of Secret Service Agents.

Hehe Aleck thats wierd thats how I got my last two really great jobs. I was at a job fair and Xerox had a booth and I thought “Hey I want to work for them, don’t know doing what but what the hell” and two weeks later I was working as mail clerk which was tons of fun. Then this current job I have working in a cash office in a department store is pretty fun to. Got that by applying for a sales position. So hey in my next job I should have an office. By the way I was kind of jokeing about haveing a job like yours. I don’t think I’m skilled enough for it but who knows.

Wow! I had no idea it was that easy to get a job there. I’m packing my bags right now. Btw, Aleck, a bullet proof vest won’t do you any good unless you wear it on your head.
Secret service? as if I don’t have henchpeople for that sort of thing. Pack some swim trunX, Aleck. I think you’ll be visitting a place with a lot of “water” real soon

I live in Wallingford, which is about 1 mile or so away from Scarecrowvideo. I havent been around the country much, but in the state of Washington, so far, its the best damm video store ive seen!
That place is crazy, you ask for some old movie that no one ever has. They respond with “Laserdisc or VHS?”, then “PAL or NTSC”. Of course for alot of older movies, you end up paying a HUGE deposit for them.
Cannibal Holocaust alone cost me 700$ (90% of which was deposits) just to rent.
If your feeling nostolgic, just head on over to scarecrovideo.com.
3rd August 2001 at 6:52 am #47910AnonymousGuestDamn Aleck, you have got cushiest job going, it’s no wonder we’re all lining up to take a shot at you.
Can you give me the satellite coordinates to your house, so I can re-program the scud missile I’ve got in the back garden, I’ve been meaning to get rid of it after the neighbours complained, now you’ve given me the perfect reason!!!
It’s a shame I live in the UK, otherwise it would have been a simple ’44 magnum to the head, get off the rest of you…he’s mine.
Anyway, you’re would be assassin would do well to remember that the rest of us would be coming after him next.
Seriously though, it kinda feel’s like we have a man on the inside, you must know a lot of people at Salter…tell them Lexx fan’s are gonna get em if they don’t continue with Lexx.
And Aleck…watch your back, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…evil laugh.

Aahh, a sensible post. It will be released on October 2 of this year.
…And listen, you guys, before you get any ideas, the Secret Service agents are just decoys. They don’t do any good. I just like seeing them get offed periodically. I can’t be killed. Not permanently, at least. Just one of those things.
Why do you think I’ve been in the DC area for the past year?

Ah, well Aleck is Prince, but is Prince Aleck? We shall know in the fullness of time, stay tuned folks for the next installment of this drama.
If you are Prince, then you won’t mind too much if we drop you out of a balloon into a lake of fire.

Squishy4th August 2001 at 12:23 am #47917AnonymousGuestAleck, in light of X’s above post, I think I should add that I’m not out too kill you either.
Even though I haven’t seen the DVD’s, it would appear that you’re doing a bang up job on them.
And it’s nice to have someone on this post that gives vital info on these DVD’s, as well as taking the time to have a pleasant banter about all thing’s Lexx.
Good on yer mate…and I’ve powered down the scud!!!

Squishy4th August 2001 at 5:38 am #47916AnonymousGuestaXXually kiddies..
After another belligerant squabbling with stupid and easily offended members of the SciFi.com LEXX bb most of whom are Americans, might I add…
I have decided to rescend any earlier promises regarding Aleck’s well being as there are far too many stupid people and easily offended people already walking the planet and we need more people like Aleck to help our numbers.
Which also reminds me why I started posting here to begin with, the bitter US vs UK debate aside.. it’s still a friendlier and more intelligent place of discusion. Maybe that’s why DalekTek790 doesn’t get me as peeved as he does some of you. There are far more irritating people across the cyber bay.
And of course.. I should have realized that thing about the secret service guys, Aleck. I have lackies that serve a similar purpose. And you guys do such a great job bringing us LEXX DVDs especially in this LEXX-un-enlightned country.
Btw a “glasecotmy” is when they install a piece of glass in your stomach so you can see out . Lot of people posting on SciFi.com are in bad bad bad need of one.

6th August 2001 at 8:40 pm #47918AnonymousGuestSo what’s the release date for volume 5? In time for Christmas? TV usually sucks so bad that time of the year that I’m renting video’s on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, it looks like S2V5 will be out in late January, instead of December. The problem with a December release is that in order to have the product ready for Christmas pre-orders (placement in catalogs, lots of warehouses stop shipping in mid-December because of Christmas vacations, etc.), we’d have to be finished with it a lot sooner than that. V5 would have to be ready, actually, before or about the time that V4 would be out. Which *could* be possible if we really rushed things, but we’d rather have a good product out there with no problems after Christmas than one we just threw together with a bunch of mistakes that we didn’t have time to correct before Christmas. Plus, there are a lot of DVDs that we’re working on at the same time that will slow down the process slightly.
