okay I sure that this topic has been trampled over many a time but I new to this site…so humour me!
I just finished watching my beloved dubiously obtained movies and S2 are on right now on TV (sigh)
Which one do you like out there? I was first introduced to Lexx through “Brigadoom” and the season 3! (what a introduction! 😯 My only other foray into Scifi was Startrek and Star Wars! That has seriously changed!) Im from Australia by the way and wonders if anyone out there saw those great ads that the Arena channel played? the “Kai=dead sexy” ones? 😉 These ads showed a little bit of Zev’s death scene from “Terminal” and so the confusion factor was HIGH!
So I dug until I stumbled across this wonderful site! 😆
When I finally watched the movies(and the begining of season2) I was satisfied. It made sense!
But back to the loveslave. I have a affinity for Zev! Eva Habermann was wonderful! and the chemistry between her and MM! the romantic in me stopped and rewound the “Supernova” song (as well as the “gigashadow” kiss way to many time! :oops:. I fell that there is not that much between XS & MM! and that the writers played on that deliberatly! has anyone also noticed that? I couldnt pick a solid example, just the whole feel of the later series! It was almost if Xev’s love for Kai was a automatic.
(My boyfriend when introduced to the series did his own share of rewinding, but that will be another post 🙄 😀 )
I unfortunatly started watching Lexx with the assumption that Xev and Kai would do something, anything….I know, I know! that has changed as well, the that darn romantic does pop up again and again!

I’d love to see those Arena ads =) Sci-Fi USA did a piss-poor job of promoting Lexx, and the commercials were all pretty much like:
“Do you like weird shows? Then watch Lexx!”
Alienating most people who WOULD watch it =(
Anyways, the Xev Zev debate is a long one =) I’ve always preferred Zev myself. She wasent the ‘kick-ass’ cluster-lizard that Xev was, but her relationship with Kai imo was much more pronounced, as was her contempt for Stanley.
Xev was *almost* an entirely different character. Tough, more cluster lizard than human at times; and more confident.
She’s far less dependant upon the crew than Zev was, and has much less of the original IWHS Zev in her than Eva.None the less I do like em both =)
according to reports, Ms. Haberman had a major crush on MMM Twack for a while. And being a good director, Paul D took advantage of this chemisrty.
She was also very young when the Movies were made, So the whole girl from box experiencing things for the first time was not too far from actual life. (Not to suggest that Ms. H was raised in a box mind you 😀 )
I like Ms. X, but I do admit, that Ms. Haberman is what made me buy into the whole romance angle.
I guess I prefer Zev. I’m not sure about the romance thing, but in terms of scary innocence, she had the role set perfectly. Her character had lots of sparks. Xev, for me, is a little less exciting.

If you don’t mind Beebop-bel, I’ll add a poll on this thread. I’m quite keen to find the current feelings of people too. (Previously, Xev won by about 2:1 (?!))
So I’m adding my thoughts a bit late…for some reason this topic wouldn’t open for me when it was posted–I think it was when the servers were having problems. (Ok, I just figured it out–you have to be logged in to open poll topics. So I’m a bit slow:roll:)
I prefer Zev as well, pretty much same reasons as everyone else–the Zev/Kai chemistry really worked, and I also like her tougher attitude towards Stanley and 790. The weird thing is that I saw Series 2 first in whatever cockamamie order SciFi showed it, and until they finally got around to broadcasting “Mantrid” it wasn’t very clear how the three main characters were tied together. For some reason the relationships made sense in “Mantrid”,(even if the change of cast was confusing). Then the movies really cleared things up.
No knock on Xenia; she’s gorgeous and a fine Xev, but if I had to choose, I’d go for the spark.

zev.. well honestly.. she was just a bit to much of a bitch 👿 for me.. no offence.. eva haberman did a great job.. but the part was just.. to mean.
xev, sure, she’s not really the nicest person eider. maybe i just like her better.. because she came in and then the show started with that lovely dark seance of humor 😀 .. ah, yes i love that.
yeah, she turns stan down all the time.. gives him mean hints about how she would do it with any guy.. just not stanley.. but.. she’s got humor.. and is not always mean.. she has her moments.. you know what i mean..

That explains so much Frey, thanks. =) More often upon reviewing the series as a whole I find myself much more drawn to the first series of movies just because there’s so much in there drama wise between the primary characters. E.H. looked like a fish out of water which was so perfect for the role, and you can actually see MM learning the role of Kai and evolving it right before your eyes. Truly some of my favorite stuff.
theBrother stopped following the series when Ms. Habberman left. He still watched it, but it was more, if it is on and I remember kind of watching. Apparently he found Ms. S to be a bit over drawn and irritating for Zev.

But Xev is funnier, and has a little more charm. It would have been incredible to have seen the two together in S4– Zev could have been Xev’s “other self”. That way we could have done a head-to-head comparison!

lizard, that’s just such a great idea! i myself haven’t seen s4, (hate swedish television!!!).. but it would have been a nice closure of lexx, to see the two zev/xev’s together.. 😉
why did they change actress anyway? was eva habermann tired of it all? would be fun to know..
I prefer Zev because I really like Eva Habermann, but also because there were quite a few shots of her panties. I think her outfit was a bit sexier and skimpier and her skirt didn’t stand a chance once she got moving.

I don’t think it’s really fair to say that she was to much of a (b*tch?), had Eva stayed with the part, I’m sure that her Zev would have softened and become friends with Stan in the same way that Xev did.
Hey TrimKlip. I think you do get to see Xev’s panties. I’m sure I saw then in either K town or tunnels or somewhere. But you’re right, they’re not white cotton ones, they’re a sort beige and not in the same league. 😉

Eva Haberman had other work commitments but agreed to do a few season 2 episodes to let them work out a handover. (And I’ve never seen such a successful switch of actors in a leading character before)
I think that by series 3, Xev’s attitude to Kai had changed. I felt she’d given up on him and it appears that at times she resented him for it. Like in Boomtown when she tells Bunny that the dead don’t… (whatever it was she said) and gives him a bit of a filthy look. But who’s to say that Eva’s Zev wouldn’t also have got a bit petulant by that stage.
I find it very hard to choose. I think from a looks point of view it has to be Zev. I found her very natural and innocent looking. I find Xenia’s lips a little bit too over the top.
This is such a tough question, but one I’m fond of debating over and over again. As a matter of fact, it was debating this very question on Sci Fi Fandom’s board that got me involved in the Lexxian community. ( It’s a long story ) Anyway, I voted for Zev, only because I have to pick one.
I am a huge fan of the movies, so I think that colors my judgement. I found this Zev so angsty, so easy to feel sorry for. When you see her running her hand over Kai’s cryopod with the heart wrenching violins playing in the backround and her big blue eyes looking so sad, it just tugs at your very soul. There is something very sweet and innocent about her devotion to Kai at this point in the series.
In a way, it’s unfair to compare Xenia and Eva in their portrayal of the role. They are both so different. They are ZevXev at different points in her evolution. Yes, Xev is harder to feel sorry for because she is more independant. But it’s probable that Eva would have played Zev differently as the series went on, as I believe Nursewhen pointed out.
Even MM had said he believed Xev loved Kai out of habit, not in the passionate way that Zev did. I like to think Xev had a deeper love for Kai than Zev. Hers was based on thousands of years together as friends. When she grieves for Kai in Yo Way Yo ( one of Xenia’s finest acting moments ) and when they have that final kiss, there’s no doubt that she still loved him in some deep way.
Oh, hell…I’m all undecided again. 😕

Lizard, I’ve often thought that premise would make an interesting alternate S4 fanfic. It would make a fantastic character study.
I would so super want be with Zev more than Xev. Eva is the best looking girl Ive ever seen. I think that both a just as good as each other in playing the part though.
