Firefly: People: Zoe

Zoe is the drop dead gorgeous right hand girl of Captain Mal. She served with him during the war and apparently he saved her life so I guess she feels partly indebted. She’s not just a pretty face, she’s also pretty capable of kicking ass when needed. She’s resourceful, loyal and dependable. Unfortunately guys, she’s not single, she’s also married to Wash, the ships pilot.

Although loyal, Zoe is not frightened of voicing her opinion if she believes the Captain is wrong. She does this regularly and their interaction is very nice to watch.

Zoe is played by Gina Torres and was born in New York City not so long ago as the youngest of three children in a Cuban American family. Attended New York City’s High School of Music and Art She is a gifted mezzo soprano and was trained in opera and jazz and also sang in a gospel choir. I wonder if she leaned to tap dance too?

If you were to meet her in the pub you’d think she looked like Cleopatra from Xena. If you were a bloke you would be trying to drum up the courage to talk to her and if you were a lady SadGeezer your partner would be sat between her and you. She’d be chatting to a drunk while getting the drinks in at the bar – it’s probably her turn.

She is one of the more experienced actors in the show and possibly most remembered for her regular roles as Anna Espinosa and Nebula in Alias and Hercules.

Unfortunately, this excellent picture and a few snippets from her CV is all I have on this lovely actress. I’ll be sure to post some more info as and when I get it.
