Oh goody! It looks like the Lexx.Com bulletin board will get a much needed upgrade! I wonder what it will be like? I suppose all of the old posts will get deleted? I had the most posts on that board. Looks like I’ll start from zero again. Ha!
🙂Was this long in the planning or did they just “up” and surprise everyone? I wonder if it had anything to do with the fan-fic friction? 😛
It surprised me. I had just finished posting a reply when I got this message that the boards were down for upgrades.
But I don’t think it had anything to do with fan fiction. On a moderated board, it’s never a problem.
However, this suggests that Lexx.Com has not been forgotten by the people who own it. I’ve been wondering about that ever since ManOwar declared that he intended to buy Lexx.Com in July when it’s registration expires.
And perhaps they might give some thought to updating the design of Lexx.Com itself. (hint, hint, I’ll do it for free)
I was looking at the german forum when the board disappeared. I thought perhaps we had been “cleansed”. Not that I don’t deserve to be cleansed, especiall after that “lets all make little kai paper dolls” post. But still, it is a good excuse to start posting here more.
Things get curiouser and curiouser do they not? Revamping and new management always make me uncomfortable especially if it deals with computers. All that tweaking, invariably something gets lost or changed. 😥
Ya know, everytime I go move somwhere or have interest in something it gets construction or reconstruction. I would move somewhere and they would tear out a bridge or build a new building; everywhere I go; it’s downright strange; and right now all I see now is pyramids everywhere I look; and I’m thinking WTF is up with pyramids. I’m hoping it means I’ll see more green backs but I don’t think so. 😉
I suppose change is good if what becomes is better than what existed before; unfortunately how often does that happen in the present time? 😥 But as a hopefilled soul I take to heart the line from “The Crow” ahem…. ” It can’t rain all the time.” 🙂

I’m sure the longer Lexx.com is down, the more of us you’ll see over here. I hope they don’t delete the old posts. We had a kickin’ Drool War going on over there. I’m just glad I saved the Stan thread pages up until 3 am last night. It’s a good thing Nursewhen and Ubervixen started archiving our story on their website.
I’m a little surprised there was no warning that the board was going down. I noticed there was a glitch with the Stan thread. Storm said something about overloading the database, so I wonder if this was planned at all.
Even when Lexx.com comes back up, I think I’ll still come visit here, if there are no objections. You have a really nice board here.
Hey everyone! How’s things?
I’ve been lurking around quite a few places trying to find out if anyone knows what’s going on with little luck. Maya reported hearing whispers of rumor about someone new taking over the bored in a post on the SciFi bboard – that’s a rather frightening thought! 🙁
I also popped into Lexx chat (thedarkzone.org) yesterday evening for a couple of minutes to see if there had been any talk. Mantrid was there, but all he said is that a new bored was being installed; nothing about the whys or whos of it. No one else there knew anything, either, or if they did, they didn’t volunteer any info.
Well, I guess I’ll keep lurking and checking the bored site for signs of life. Later gators! 😉
Most BB develop problems with lots of use. This one for example has gone thru several changes to keep up with us and the posts. It could be a software problem being corrected or updated, it could be switching to a faster better (hopefully) server or it could just be that the post database became corrupted and needed to be reloaded and tidied up.
I did not see a change of ownership to the URL, in fact it was just recently renew for several years by Mr. Paul Donovan.
One possiblility is that a new board is going to be coupled with a new website for lexx.com. That would be a blessing, several highly talented old time fans have been after them for years offering to upgrade our ‘home’ in to a place that would be more interesting to the new fan. Possibly they finially decided to take them up on their offers. (long shot there, but would be great hey?)

Well that is something of a relief. 🙄
I’m kinda thinking that the bored finally became overloaded with drool and chocolate sauce and went *kerflooey*! I have a cartoonish vision of a big computer server that starts to spark, shudder, and vibrate across the floor to the sheer horror of the computer geeks in charge of keeping it running, who all begin shrieking like little girls and dive under their desks. Then it starts to spin in ever-quickening circles, throwing sparks and splatters of drool in every direction. The plug finally dislodges from the outlet, and the server lurches and grinds to a halt, beginning to smoke and ooze chocolate sauce out of every one of its openings. The final indignity is a dull explosion that blows the server into a thousand drool- and chocolate sauce-encrusted bits and pieces, all overshadowed by a large, black mushroom cloud that rises menacingly toward the ceiling. The computer geeks finally begin peeking out from their hiding spots to look upon this scene of utter devastation – large globs of drool and chocolate sauce stick to everything, and bits and chunks of circuit boards, wires, and other assorted hardware lay everywhere, all radiating out from a large puddle of chocolate sauce surrounding the charred spot on the floor that marked the server’s final resting place. This horrific scene can only be made worse by the sharp, hair-curling smell of fried circuits and scorched chocolate that hangs in the air. Oh the horror of it all! 😈 😉
But then again, that’s just my twisted little vision! 😀
No changing hands has occurred. Sorry there wasn’t more notice. The board software is being upgraded. I really don’t know much more than that.

I also hope nothing gets deleted from the board, but frankly I’m not surprised that there was no warning; such is the way of Alliance Atlantis, but I won’t get into a rant. Although I might have expected things to be a bit different if, as theFrey says, it was P. “Diddy” Donovan himself (of AA subsidiary Salter Street) who renewed the URL ownership. Anyway, I didn’t think they’d let the domain fall into other hands — that could end up being a real embarrassment to LEXX/Salter Street/ AA (especially as lexx.com is listed in the shows credits, but then *shameless sadgeezer plug* sadgeezer.com is also mentioned, at least on some of the DVDs).
Yep, I would hope that if they knew things would get deleted then they would have given us some notice so that we could “save” our posts.
BTW Streudel, please do come back here! I think you’ll find that this board can satisfy some of your virtual discussion urges better than lexx.com can. And I love the organisation of these forums (‘though I expect that lexx.com’s will improve).
I liked lexx.com because there was such heavy posting activity that there were always plenty of threads to find something to “easily” respond to — I’d read through a few posts and responses would start popping into my head at lightning speed, but the place could be a little manic at times (or at least it made me manic at times).
This place is on the other hand is ultra-layed back; not so many posts so I don’t feel the need to quickly get my two cents in before the topic gets completely derailed. And while both sites have posts that cover a huge diversity of topics (i.e. not just LEXX), for a general sci-fi buff this site satisfies my general sci-fi cravings better with its wide range of sci-fi forums (though it has forums to discuss just about anything). For instance, personal stuff (Congratulations topics etc.) can be posted in The Pub here, whereas at lexx.com such stuff may be moved into the test forum or in some rare cases deleted altogether. Understandable, as the lack of forums would mean that such poists would clog up the board. Really, deletion is almost unheard of at this site, and editing is rare (‘though when I’ve been edited here, maybe once, my post was improved). Actually, I’ve very rarely had a post deleted, or even edited at lexx.com too, but it does happen (mainly if they break board etiquette/rules in some way).
Oh, at sadgeezers if a thread is deleted it is still archived here so you can get a copy of it (that happened to me once); at lexx.com it will become totally non-existent (‘though there are ways to retrieve it often). Also, at this site I’ve found that there is generally a degree of honesty, accountability, and transparency from the admin. that is exceedingly rare. The lexx admin. are good too of course. I just feel a little more involved in this site — in making suggestions/participating. Sad requests our input. it’s different when the site was created and maintained by someone for whom the site is alabour of love as this place clearly is — Sad wants this site to be as good as it can be, and it’s great!
And if you have a problem or question you can expect a full explanation here, and Sad always tries his darndest to warn us and keep us informed about any changes.
Anyway, I really like both sites, and they appeal to me in different ways. Lexx-wack dawg-.com can be supremely wacky in a very engaging way — a lot of great threads and great people there. I’ll be interested to see the changes at lexx.com, though really it’s the people that matter most; not the board design.

Hi Fellow Lexxians,
I think that the members of lexx.com needed to be informed ahead of time, so they know not to go there for x amount of time; also, so that, others don’t go there & find nothing there for x days. There needed to be some sort of warning from the moderators of when it would be down, so that lexx.com member can go elsewhere to post; surprising the members was not smart on their part, not that I’m picking on them or anything.
I do hope there’s no major changes, so people, like me, can try & login without problems.

I’ll admit the withdrawal from Lexx.com has been difficult for me. The writing muse had really gotten a hold of me, and I had been really looking forward to getting home to read the latest on the story and post my next chapter. My muse and I were terribly disappointed.
But on the bright side, this unexpected turn of events has given me the opportunity to get out into the Lexxian community and meet some of the denizens of other Lexx boards. It has been a very positive experience for me. I had been so involved with the Stan story, I had hardly posted anywhere but that thread.
This does seem like a great place for my style of posting. I do tend to veer off into long winded venting of my rambling imagination, and that’s hard to do when posts are flying fast and furious. And I’m glad to hear there’s a communal spitoon for Purple_Uni and me. I know I’ll like it here.
These next paragraphs are going to be a bit soapboxy, and a bit mushy, so you’ve been warned.
I have to say that I now feel more like part of a community rather than just a board as a result of my unscheduled pilgrimage to other Lexx boards. I was over to Sci-Fi.com last night, hanging out in their Lexx Bar, and my welcome there was quite warm also. It seems like the animosity there has been cleansed for now. They seem genuinely interested in repairing their image to the rest of the Lexxian community. I mentioned to them that we should visit each other’s boards more often, maybe have sort of a virtual block party for Lexxian unity. They offered their Lexx Bar for this function next Friday. All are welcome. I hope alot of people will drop by lexx.com when the new board is in place.
As a person who is still relatively new to the Lexx fandom scene, it’s been really nice for me to be so warmly welcomed into the ranks by the ” old guard ” everywhere I go. The “old timers ” have been kind enough to pass along their knowledge, share their pictures, recommend links, and in every way encourage a newbie to continue their Lexx addiction. I think this is what will keep the fandom vital and growing despite the lack of new Lexx.
So thanks again for the hospitality, I will definitely keep coming back.
It’s a pretty comfortable bunch over here, I think most of us have been known to ramble a bit…. (not as much as Logan of course.:P –can’t help it, it’s just that he always leaves these
BIG openings.)I never worry about whether old posts will be saved–I guess because mine are better off fading into oblivion. Of course hubby still has papers he wrote in High School, we have a big fight about his junk each time we move! 😕
You can always start a new Stan thread here if holding back till the other board is up again gets to be too much for you!

It feels like I’ve missed out on the Lexx craze for the most part, but there are still a few individuals who fan in their creative wafts to the Lexx boards 🙂
It’s been a real comfort to be able to come here and see my Lexx.com roommates. Huggles to all of you. It’s also been a comfort to receive updates on this situation here. And as I said before, I look forward to making new Lexxian friends here at Sad’s and other boards. All and all, I expect that this will ultimately be looked back on as a good thing.
Thank you for the offer to post the Stan thread here, Elmey. I think my co-authors and I will probably post a cleaned up version of it for the ff section if its OK with the mods here. I should e-mail my comrades to see if they’d like to meet here. I think I have their addresses somewhere. I’ve missed them all tremendously.
I’m very flattered that you guys think the Sadgeezers would be entertained by our little fic. Alot of it is in-jokes about our personalities on Lexx.com, such as my legendary fictional addiction to midget porn and things like that. Hopefully, as the Sadgezers get to know us, they’ll find our characters funny, too.
If rambling is encouraged here, than I think, Purple Uni, you and I will be in seventh heaven. I’ve always enjoyed sharing the soapbox with you. I’ve also always enjoyed Funky’s tangents. Streudel, I’m so glad you’ve archived everthing off. I’ve been in a state of paranoia in case the board returned empty. I’ve only got half of the thread on my website. If I’d KNOWN the board was coming down, I would have archived it all off and spent my cold turkey time on spell checking.

That’s why the fan fic forum is there.
Just be sure to read the general guidelines/rules. No graphic porn and no horrifying descriptions of characters from the show dying. Examples include “Penthouse Letters” and snuff films. I had to delete one story that was nothing but a graphic description of one main character killing another.
Although very unlikely, one must consider the possibility that any of the actors from the show might eventually read some of this stuff.

Flamegrape, thanks for the info, and we’ll be sure to check out the FAQ before posting. We were just having discussions at Lexx.com before the server went down about self policing our content, and discussing with the mods there what their policies were going to be, as I’m sure you know.
We’ve tried to keep in mind while we’re writing that there is the possibility that someone involved in the show might see what we’ve written. We certainly wouldn’t want to offend anyone. If there’s anything we’re in doubt about, we’ll be sure to ask you before posting it.

Looks like that comment about me crashing the server with ” the Epic ” post turned out to be rather prophetic. It’s kinda like that ep of Red Dwarf where Lister is trying to make that ship’s log explaining how they ran into a future version of themselves, and the camera keeps exploding on him. I think that might be what happened. Too much temporal causality and dopplegangers in one post.

Like major storm fronts combining into a supercell; I’m anticipating the time that Lexxians can meet in one place; one big cyber party spanning the globe and crossing boundaries.
We have a force together, a community; and it says something that it still exists even a year after the last episode aired and its changing and evolving just like LEXX did. This is what is most exciting about LEXX now….. all of you.
It’s the interactions, and those highly original stories, it’s reflection on the show; it’s the agreements and the disagreements.

I agree, I do feel part of a community, and it is a tribute to the legacy of Lexx that people are still so hyped about it a year after the last episode aired.
It is the talents and creativity of other Lexxians that keep me involved in this fandom. It is a truly unique fanbase.
I would also like to see that cyber-party happen. I’ll bring the cheesy poofs. SciFi.com is asking people to stop by their Lexx Bar on Friday as a sort of block party for Lexxian unity. I will be there, and I hope to see lots of other board’s Lexxians there too.
I think it’s more important than ever to be united in the cause of being ambassadors for Lexx, with the lack of Lexx on the airwaves right now. We need to keep this fandom reeling in newbies so that TPTB will know we still want DVD’s, conventions, and the like. This was my soapbox moment ( Funk said I could drag my soapbox over here from Lexx.com 😉 )
In conclusion, I say, ” We fight for Lexx! “

There are some truly funny people posting their entries there, and I happened to think you’re last contest winner was funny as hell. It’s nice to be able to tell you I got a huge laugh out of it. 😆
