Review of Episode 11 – Quan Zhi Gao Shou , 电视剧全职高手 , Dian Shi Ju Quan Zhi Gao Shou – The Kings Avatar: 全职高手

In the last episode we saw an army of professional Glory players getting their asses kicked by the ‘Fellowship of the Grim’ it’s not their name, but they certainly deserve it.  Six players on Lord Grim’s team positively massacred some very silly professional players who ‘were attempting to ‘gank’ (kill the player character, usually by unfairly ganging up or using better gear and equipment) Ye Xiu’s pals while they went off shopping for gear in Kongji City. The whole thing was a little over the top to be honest, 40+ professionals being beaten by 5 or 6 players (some of whom were rookies) took advantage of a lot of poetic/dramatic license.  It was great to watch though  🙂

The main story (the big news!) from last weeks episode however, was towards the end of the show when Ye Xiu decided that he was going to form a rookie Glory team.  It’s only taken him ten episodes and such a decision is certainly well overdue!

Overall Comments – The Kings Avatar Episode 11

This was another great show that tied up some parts of the story and introduced some great characters (including Han Wenqing – a key rival character (i.e one of the few that are ever in danger of kicking his ass!) and Maggie Jiang was in the show quite a bit which was really nice to see. However, not a great deal happened.  Last week’s show was action packed, this week’s is more about drama and politics.  Still ok, but I must admit, I missed some of the fast pace of the previous episode.

Kings Avatar Episode 11 Review

In the previous episode, Ye Xiu and the members of his Glory team were celebrating with a meal bought by Su Mucheng.  It was a fun time end everyone was relaxing.

The Jiashi Fan Meeting

Across town however, there was a meeting being held at the Jiashi building for fans of the Excellent Era Glory team that was once headed by their idol, Ye Qui.  The fans miss him terribly and want him to come back.  So many of them have attended the meeting today because they hope that there will be an announcement of his return or that they will at least find a platform for their feelings to be heard by the senior management.

Chen Guo is right in the middle of them, so is Sleeping Moon (still trying to find his actual name out of the game – if you know, can you email me at my ‘sadgeezer’ account at gmail.com? I would really appreciate it and you would get a thank-you in the next episode review  🙂 )  – The crowd and Chen Guo chant Ye Qui’s name or more specifically, ‘Master’ and seem to be getting excited (there are a LOT of women for a computer game fan meeting!) and enthusiastic for a coming announcement.

Their feelings are soon dashed however, when the towering character (yet short stature) boss of Jiashi appears on stage and tells them a sob-story about Ye Qui leaving and that he wouldn’t be coming back.

Sleeping Moon objects.  Chen Guo looks on in admiration of Sleeping Moon’s elegant rebuttal.

pleads with them to stop expecting his return and to ‘move on’ so that the newly formed team can begin to get confidence and play to their potential instead of in Ye Qui’s shadow.

Tao Zuan tells them to stop expecting the return of the ‘Master’ – it won’t happen!

It was an eloquent speech but ultimately very disappointing for the fans of the team who had hoped for an announcement of Ye Qui’s return.  It seemed that Chen Guo was the most upset. She returned home dejectedly to the Internet Cafe.

When she arrives, Ye Xiu and Tang Rou can see that she is trying to put on a brave face, that she is upset that she wont see her idol, Ye Qui again.  They are both moved when she says, with a smile, that she wants to go back to her room to rest for a while.  She retires to her room alone and cries for the loss of her idol, Ye Qui.

Starting Over by a Different Path

Later. she meets up with Ye Xiu on the roof of the Internet Cafe, she is still sad.  He comforts her with words of encouragement about things changing and that ye Qui, wherever he is will be back, etc.  He demonstrates by plucking a flower from the plant-pot and placing it in a drinking glass. The drinking glass is now a vase but it looks the same – he tells her that maybe Ye Qui is taking a different path to start over.

On the other side of town, the Guild Boss tells the Captain, Han Wenqing that there is an exhibition match tomorrow and that he would like to send a few players there but Wenqing points out that it is mid-season and abruptly requests that the guild boss leaves if he has no other business.

Too scared to talk to the boss

Jiang You, the Team leader of Tyrannical Ambition (the raiding team on the 10th server that is part of the Tyranny guild) wants to chat with Han Wenquing but he overhears the Captain being abrupt with the boss and wimps out of starting a conversation.

Han Wenqing looks to be very annoyed. Zhang You changes his mind and opts to visit the Vice Captain instead

Instead, he decides to go and visit the Vice Captain, Zhang Xinjie who is also a formidable character.  He is one of the four great Glory Tacticians and absolutely meticulous in everything he does. Jang You, however, manages to persuade him to0 help hi beat the annoying and overpowered Lord Grim so that he and his team can begin getting achievements again on the 10th server.

So its YOU!

Zhang Xinjie is surprised to learn that Lord Grim is Ye Qui although he is not particularly friendly or frightened of him, he is respectful.  The two chat while battling and Jang You listens.

We're sick of you messing up our dungeon records dude!
We’re sick of you messing up our dungeon records dude!

Ye Xiu asks why the venerable Vice Captain, Zhang Xinjie would want to gang up on Lord Grim.  Zhang Xinjie explains that he came to stop Lord Grim interfering with the attempts of the guild to attain dungeon records so that they could influence their ranking and continue to grow the guild (he didn’t actually say all that, but I think that’s what he meant).

Zhang Xinjie arees to an arena match between his team and Te Ziu’s team in the arena a little later on. If Ye Xiu loses then he will not attempt any more records – this would stop him being able to get the weapon materials that he needs to upgrade the 1000 Machine Umbrella.

It’s a battle that he must win.

Zhang Xinjie accompanies Jiang You to visit Han Wenqing to explain that Ye Qui has returned in the guise of Lord Grim.

Old Buddies (and Rivals!)

Han Wenqing and Ye Qui were old friends and older players amongst the other professionals) and there were rivals who were very evenly matched.  There is a flashback to when they last met Ye Qui had beaten him in the final of a match).

It is said that Han Wenqing is the only true rival that Yer Qui had in the game of Glory and one of the very few that could beat him. However, Han Weqing is worried that he is getting a little old fo the game and pushes himself very hard to make sure he is in peak condition.   an Wenqing wants to see how weak Ye Qui has become now that he has a new and less well geared character on the 10th Server.

And so it begins

Later, when the teams are assembled, the battle starts.

The Kings Avatar Episode Review 11-10 The Battle Starts

The Tyranny team start pretty well, by Lord Grims team Yifan, Bao and Tang Rou, soon get things back under control and this leaves Lord Grim to concentrate on beating his rival, Zhang Xinjie. This he does with a masterful use of tactics to draw him out of position.  Alas, it wasn’t quite good enough as he is not only able to recover, but summon his Captain, Han Wenqing.

Han Wenqing quickly (and I mean REALLY quickly) destroys all but Lord Grim.

The Kings Avatar Episode Review 11-11 Han Wenqing Joins the Battle

Then the two of them fight a duel – Lord Grim wins. However, although the fight is over, Lord Grim would, in the end, have to concede defeat – he lost all his team when he opposition were only one man down.

They actually lost!

After the match, Tang Rou discusses the fight with Ye Xiu at the roof bar of the Internet Cafe.  He tells her that they will not be able to get any new dungeon records but there will still be ways to get the materials that they need.  Tang Rou doesn’t quite understand how and Lord Grim decides not to explain it to her.

The Kings Avatar Episode Review 11-12 No more dungeon records for me!

Later, much later, Chen Guo is in her room listening to a report on the television about it being a shame that Ye Qui did not show up at the retirement ceremony held at the Jiashi Fan Meeting a few days ago.  She showed an interview with Han Wenqing and was surprised and excited to hear that Han Wenqing told the reporter that it would be out of character for Ye Qui to give up Glory and that he didn’t believe that he wouldn’t be back.

Chen Guo remembers that she too had not heard that Ye Qui was retiring from him, only that it had been reported.  She chose to believe in his return.

Ye Xiu on the other hand is chatting on-line to the Lanxi Pavilion Captain, Xu Boyuan and explaining that he will help him get a new dungeon record, but not by boosting them himself – se see Luo Ji hand Ye Xiu a carefully prepared document and can only assume that it is a specially prepared dungeon strategy for LanxI Pavillion.

The Kings Avatar Episode Review 11-14 Lanxi Pavilion will be the new beneficiaries of a purpose built dungeon guide

Xu Boyuan looks confused.

And there the show ends.   I really enjoyed it, not as much as the others, but it was still very good.  In many respects, I thought this was a bit of a filler episode, not so much to introduce main characters of the new team, but some of the opponents and respected players (and teams) that they will be battling.  I guess it had to happen sooner or later.  There was considerably less plot and definitely more drama and politics.  Lets hope there is more action in the coming episodes.

I’d rate this episode a really good 8.8 out of 10.  The production was marvelous but there was less story and more backstory, history and narrative.
