Tripping the Rift: S01E01: God Is Our Pilot (Alternate Review)

I must admit that I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I sat down to watch the first episode of Tripping the Rift. If you thought the short pushed the graphic sexual innuendo cartoon envelope (is there a graphic sexual innuendo cartoon envelope?), then buckle your seatbelts for this one.

After being introduced to the crew members of the Free Enterprise it is clear that the show’s creators set out to push the boundaries and have thus far succeeded since nothing this raunchy has ever been on the Sci Fi channel before. The captain of the ship, Chode, is a short fat, perverted purple slob who occasionally gets sexual favors from the resident nympho-android Six. There is the pseudo-homosexual robot Gus along with the lone virgin of the Free Enterprise, Whip. The crew is rounded out by T’Nuk, a fat disgusting creature that could be the female version of Jabba the Hut.

The shock bar is set fairly high in the first episode when attempting to time travel, Chode and Gus kill God. Yes, that’s right they splatter God’s intestines all over the windshield of their ship. After God is dead the raunch-o-meter keeps climbing with some robot sex and bloody decapitations. My favorite part of the whole thing was they come back to the “present” after killing God (of course, they don’t KNOW they’ve killed the big dude) and everything looks like a super happy wondrous Woodstock love fest. TtR is funny and defiantly good to keep an eye out for just to see what else is in store.
