well, i finally searched out ‘when people become numbers’ on myspace a couple of days ago, sat there having a listen, when my partner comes in and says “what’s that bloody racket???”. showing his age, methinks….
hello again everyone, btw 😉
am going to the download festival at donington again in about a month’s time. apart from the big bands that will be there, i’m looking forward to discovering some of the smaller bands that will be playing. if i can afford it, i’ll be looking at doing either the bulldog bash or the bloodstock festival-which will give me an opportunity to listen to bands that don’t make it to donington. i often find that a real measure of how good a band actually is, is how they perform live without all the electronic trickery of a studio. i have been put off by bands in the past when they’ve put in a less than enthusiastic performance on stage, and have got deeper into others on the strength of their live performance. i don’t know if others here feel the same. there are people out there who claim to be music fans, but aren’t interested in the live experience. personally, i think they’re missing out on what it’s all about…
thanks for the suggestions on how to deal with my dell/mcafee situation….not really confident enough to deal with it myself, so i’ve asked IT at work if they can have a look at it for me. trouble is, the company’s setting up a new computerised business management/database system, which went live today. IT did say they’ll look at my computer next week, but i’m not holding my breath…. 🙁 so if anyone in the meantime suggests i check out a certain video by a certain band, if it plays only through quicktime, i’m stuffed…..
Hayseed Dixie are playing at a local biker’s pub in september….unfortunately it’s sold out… 🙁
another annoyance at the minute is the fact that at the minute, i can’t download or stream anything that has anything to do with quicktime (including SadCasts 😥 ). those nice people at dell saw fit to configure my computer in such a way that when i removed the mcafee security suite (that was free for 3 months) when the trial period expired, it took out part of quicktime with it- stopping it working. i can’t uninstall it and do a fresh install because it’s taken out part of quicktime’s uninstall program, and if i do a system restore to a point before i uninstalled mcafee (at which time quicktime starts working again) and am then able to get quicktime off my computer, i can’t then get rid of mcafee…grrrrr 👿
add my appreciation to the list as well…despite some of the niggly little problems i seem to have downloading the casts, i have enjoyed them. it’s also great to finally ‘meet’ you all as well!!! 😀
when’s the next one? i can’t wait!!!
i just tried to download SadCast 08…. got that ok, but the playback was a little jerky…? some sections difficult to listen to. i had another go at downloading it just in case there was a problem with the download, and all i got was the ‘downloading from…’ message on the bar at the bottom of my screen- and nothing else happened. no box in the middle of the screen, nothing…. 😕 i didn’t do anything different from the first time i tried to download it…. 😕
thanks, saddy- have bookmark pandora! 🙂
if you’re interested, you might like to check out this section of breed’s website-
there’s a little thing at the top of the screen called ‘breed radio’ (it’s fairly simple to work out how to use!) that plays snippets of several of their tracks 🙂
i tend to struggle at the minute when it comes to finding out about new bands. the bf has taken over the tv, so i don’t get to flick through the music channels so much, i work mainly out of an office now (so i don’t get to listen to the radio), and IT at work won’t let us stream or download anything…miserable sods and their precious bandwidth….. i’m relying on oher people to tell me how great new bands are now!!!
i’m currently more or less obsessed with a band called Breed 77- they’re a spanish-gibraltan band based in london (i think!). overall, they describe their sound as ‘flamenco metal’, which isn’t quite as wierd a concept as it might sound. i think they’re planning on spreading their wings a bit, and going after the american an australian markets in a big way in the next few months. they’re not such a well known band at the minute, though i think they deserve to be. i’d be interested to hear if anyone here knows about them? off the top of my head, if anyone were to ask me to recommend a couple of their tracks, i’d say ‘La Ultima Hora’ (off their ‘Cultura’ album) and ‘Breaking the silence’, ‘karma’ and ‘Floods’ off their first album. there’s probably a couple of tracks <cough> that i could recommend off their new album <cough> which is out in september <cough>….but i don’t have a copy of it <cough> 🙄 😉 i first heard the band after flicking through the music channels on the cable package that i have- ‘La Ultima Hora’ had just been released. it made me stop and listen…which is why i was asking if anyone else had discovered a band that they enjoy listening to in a similar way? it needn’t be someone that no-one’s ever heard of…perhaps you’ve finally got onto the foo fighters bandwagon, for example…? (i was speaking to someone the other day, younger than i am, who says she’s never heard any of their stuff-and they seem to dominate the scene at the minute!! so anything’s possible… 🙂 )
i more or less gave up trying to watch the last season of BSG… i’d struggle to find the time to watch it for a couple of episodes, then i would find the time to sit down and watch- only to realise that i really had missed a chunk of the story, and from then on would struggle to understand fully what was going on. it really isn’t one of those shows(as far as i’m concerned) that you can miss chunks out of. and it’s not alone. don’t get me wrong, i do enjoy the sort of show that follows an arc, like BSG. but it’s not very often these days that i have the time to sit down and fully appreciate the efforts that go into them. it does get very frustrating 🙁 unfortunately, i can’t think of of a strong scifi show at the minute that i can just dip into, as it were….
…i think you’ll find that’s
6.66 x 10 raised by the power of 2
(and i’ve just tried for the last 15 minutes to make that a superscript 2!!! 🙄 )
..i didn’t get anything…. 🙁
Thanks, folks! 😳 😀 it’s nice to know people care! 🙂
