Dune: People: The Preacher

One cannot talk about Paul without mentioning the Preacher, for they are one in the same.
One cannot talk about Paul without mentioning the Preacher, for they are one in the same. The Preacher appeared shortly after Paul’s walk into the desert, preaching against Alia, the "religion" of Muad'Dib and the Empire.
Dune: Cultures: House Atreides
House Atreides
"Honorable, Noble, most beloved of the Great Houses"
House Atreides began as House Atreus in Homer's story the Illiad. After Earth became filled with technology humans became ignorant and lofty of their environment. As such a small group of 20 men and woman seized power by taking over the Machines, thus controlling every resource on the entire planet.
Dune: People: Leto Atreides
Leto ("The Just") Atreides

Patron and Duke of House Atreides. Known for his Solomon like wisdom and a military which rivals that of the Imperial Sardaukar. He is the father of Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, and is responsible for much of his wisdom, and early compassion. His bound concubine is Lady Jessica, who he loves more then anything in the universe, save his son Paul. Before the events of Dune, Leto ascended to become Duke, after his father, Paulus, died in a freak bullfighting accident.
Dune: Dune: Pt.1 "Dune"
"Arrakis, Dune, wasteland of the empire, and the most valuable planet in the universe, because it is here and only here, where spice is found. The spice, without it there is no commerce in the empire, there is no civilization. Arrakis, Dune, home of the spice, greatest treasure in the universe. And he who controls it, controls our destiny." - Irulan
Dune: Children of Dune: Pt.3 "The Golden Path"
"History is written on the sands of Arrakis, where rebellion and civil war continue to breed. Fed by Alia's brutal tyranny and repression, as she sinks deeper into the Abomination of her own Ghost. Unable to recognize the forces conspiring against her. Unaware of the whirlwind, sweeping towards her across the desert" -Ghanima
Dune: Dune: Pt.3 "The Prophet"
All right, it's night three, the finale of Dune! And what better way to begin an episode then with lots of stuff blowing up? The episode starts off with a handful of Fremen infiltrating a Harkonnen warehouse/hanger. While the soldiers are loading thopters with pure spice, the Fremen are lurking around, planting
explosives all over the hanger.
Dune: Cultures: Ixians
The Ixians
The Ixians are the technological powerhouse of the Imperium. If its technical, scientific, futuristic or in anyway cool, it was designed and built by the Ixians. They've created everything form hunter-killers through the Spacing Guild's Heighliners. Ix is named for being the ninth planet about its star, in the old Roman numeral system.
Dune: Cultures: Fremen
The Fremen are the desert nomads of Dune.
The Fremen are the desert nomads of Dune. They're known for their glowing blue eyes, xenophobia and total aptitude for fighting skills.
If you were to see some Fremen in a pub, you'd know that you are in the wrong pub. It'd be a gang members only establishment, and trespassers will be removed by force and/or death. The first and last thing you'd see before having your ass throw out of a window is the house beer, a black-as-oblivion Scottish heavy that all the patrons would be drinking.
Dune: Cultures: Spacing Guild
The spacing guild control all space travel. Everything from launching satellites to transporting people and goods across galaxies is covered under their massive monopoly. The guild is operated by humans mutated by the spice
mélange. The mutations vary from almost pure human to giant fish like beings called steersman.
If you were to see members of the spacing guild in a bar, they'd be the wonky bohemians. They would be drinking absinthe. We here at SadGeezer have often made up crazy drinks and professions of various cultures and peoples in a pub, but I am completely certain that a steersman would be enjoying the green fairy!
Dune: People: Stilgar
Stilgar is one of the greatest Fremen to ever live.
Stilgar is one of the greatest Fremen to ever live. He's was one of Paul's champions in the fight against the Harkonnen for Arrakis, and an early general in Muad'Dib's jihad. Later he became Paul's majordomo and godfather to children.
Dune: People: Shaddam Corrino
Emperor Shaddam Corrino the 4th, the 82nd Padishah Emperor, ruler of the known human universe, and a total putz.Emperor Shaddam Corrino the 4th, the 82nd Padishah Emperor, ruler of the
known human universe, and a total putz. The Corrino family ruled the imperium for 11,000 years, but his ineptitude changed all that.
Dune: People: Lady Jessica Atreides
Jessica is the mother Paul Muad'Dib and Alia Atreides as well as the bound concubine (quasi-wife) to the Duke Leto Atreides.
Jessica is the mother Paul Muad'Dib and Alia Atreides as well as the bound concubine (quasi-wife) to the Duke Leto Atreides.
Jessica is totally devoted to her love Duke Leto and to House Atreides as a whole.Jessica is the love-child of Baron Harkonnen and Reverend Mother Mohium. Love-child is something of an exaggeration as she was the result of the Baron raping the Reverend Mother. But in all fairness to the Goodyear blimp, it was her to set out to rape him, again!
Dune: People: Alia Atreides
Alia Atreides, sister to Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, was Regent to the empire after his death.
Alia Atreides, sister to Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, was Regent to the empire after his death. Alia is also know as the Holy Sister and St. Alia of the Knife.
For good reason too, Alia was once cruelest Fremen women the universe had ever known! Alia was born the daughter of Jessica and Duke Leto Atreides. But birth wasn't that simple for her. After Leto's death Jessica was forced to seek refuge with the Fremen in the desert of Arrakis.
Dune: People: Chani
Chani is Paul's Muad'Dib Atreides's true love and the mother to his three children.
Chani is Paul's Muad'Dib Atreides's true love and the mother to his three children. To say that Chani loves Paul is an understatement. She would give or do anything for him, as a matter of fact it's how she died!Chani was born in the desert of Dune as a Fremen. Her father was the famed planetologist and Fremen prophet Dr. Leit Kynes.
Dune: Dune: Pt.2 "Muad'Dib"
Our story continues in Arrakeen. Despite the fat Baron's victory, he's not happy at all. In fact he's shvitzing out! The Baron is having a nightmare, or rather a prescient vision. He sees Paul Atreides staring him down, with a group of hooded people behind him chanting Muad'Dib. The Baron is not pleased. But luckily for him, his nephew, Feyd interrupts his sleep and tells him the "good news" of the deaths of Paul and Jessica. The Baron is skeptical. Unlike Feyd, Vladimir has seen enough scifi flicks to know that, someone's not dead until you find the bodies, and even then its still uncertain! Feyd is not impressed with his Uncle's paranoia, and insists that Paul and Jessica died in the desert. Not quite.
Dune: People: Paul Muad'Dib Atreides
Paul Muad'Dib Atreides
Paul Maud-Dib Atreides was one of the most extraordinary humans in all of the Dune universe.
Paul Muad'Dib Atreides
Dune: Cultures: House Harkonnen
House Harkonnen
"Treacherous, Powerful, and one of the more feared Great Houses"
House Harkonnen has always been known as one of the most ruthless Houses in the Landsraad. Their control of Arrakis gave them unheard of wealth, so much in fact they are among the only faction besides the Emperor himself able to afford the Guilds transport fees for moving armies.
Dune: Technology: Stone Burner
A stone burner is hands-down the most destructive weapon in the Dune universe, and maybe in all of sci-fi. The stone burner can perform one of two devastating tasks; The first function of the bomb is to release massive amounts of J-rays (a type of radiation that dissolves eye tissue immediately), thus blinding all creatures within a few kilometers. The second objective of the stone burner is to outright destroy the world its detonated on! After the device is activated the device sets off an explosion that is targeted straight up and down.

Dune: Technology: Heighliner
The Guild heighliner is the lifeblood of imperium commerce.
The Guild heighliner is the lifeblood of imperium commerce. These asteroid sized space ships are the how most people and cargo are transported between the various planets, moons and systems of the Empire. The ship is mostly hollow, which allows smaller vessels, from
ornithopters up to Frigates and larger attack vessels, to be carried along its trip through foldspace.
Dune: Technology: Ornithopters
Ornithopters, or thopters as they are commonly referred to, are the most common small transport vessels in the Imperium. These ships are capable of carrying 6 passengers, 9 if the back seats are removed.
Dune: Technology: Shields
No respectable house leader or space craft would be caught without a shield. Shields are the most common protection measures in the Dune universe. They prevent any fast moving object from passing through their field. Shields function because of a Holtman field.
Dune: Technology: Suspenders

Suspenders is also another common technology employed by humans that utilizes a Holtzman field.
Suspenders use a Holtzman Field to work against gravity and lift an object in the air. All this is accomplished without any connection to another anchored surface. To put it simply, suspenders lift and move heavy objects. Everything from general cargo to Guild Navigator Tanks, glowglobes to viewing platforms.
Even humans can be lifted by suspenders. The obese Baron Vladimir Harkonnen uses suspenders to most his weak fat body from place to place.
