The destruction of the Divine Order left the Light Zone bereft of a clear ruler. His Divine Shadow was clobbered by Kai and the prophesy was fulfilled….
The missfit crew of the LEXX now travel the Light Zone looking for a home…. The Cluster was destroyed and although remnants of humanity managed to survive the cleansing, there are only small communities left on planets dotted around the Light Zone…. But the threat of destruction from Insects is no more. Or is it?… “Many thousands of years ago we were defeated by humans in the great Insect Wars. Our human enemies thought that they destroyed all insects but I escaped to live on. I hide myself by burrowing deep into a small planetoid and there I waited. I passed my essence, my soul, my intelligence, my everything into a human host. As the last surviving Insect, I knew that I would never be able to defeat the humans. But if I possessed a human body, I though perhaps I could use humans to defeat themselves. I became His Divine Shadow, the most powerful ruler in the two universes. My power over humanity grew as I passed my essence down through generation after generation. …..But my order was destroyed by Kai, the last of the Brunnen G. Kai crushed the brain of my last human host, but he did not kill me, as I still live on.” The new enemy in this season is Mantrid, and it could be said that he is even MORE of a bad geezer than His Divine Shadow. However, as usual, most of the trouble suffered by the crew is either self induced, the result of them helping people in distress, or more usually, because they wanted to get some ‘skin!’

Season three returned darker and following a new format, LEXX has surprised almost immediately. There is a war between a planet called Fire and a planet called Water. The LEXX and it’s crew are stranded. At first the war seems fairly straightforward, but our hero’s find that the peoples of Fire and Water are a very strange bunch indeed. Wanna see what Kai looks like in a short blue dress or maybe you will want to marvel at the full horror of his manly extremities. As the season develops, the crew of the LEXX get into some particularly tricky situations. Xev is killed by Kai and Kai is imitated. Worse still comes the immortal phrase, But on the plus side, the lovely Lyekka returns as sexy and as ravenous as ever. (A bit like the LEXX I guess) The episodes have truly stunning graphical scenery and as the people and places become even more strange, our heroes are set for a final confrontation. Will good win over evil? The end of the series draws to a close, Stanley dies (twice), and we learn the real secret of Fire and Water. And when it seems like there can be no more twists in the saga, the very last scene throws us a whopper! |

Stanley Tweedle has been relieved of command…. well sort of. He has lost the key to the LEXX which now resides with Xev.
Of course Stan the Man is non too impressed with this arrangement … the people on the Little Blue Planet below have sent up a space shuttle manned by a killer with only one thing on his mind. He’s quickly dispatched though and we soon learn that Prince has managed to find a position of power with the most powerful nation on Earth. Xev is intrigued and wants to explore, Stanley is captured by Prince and Kai is again left to find and rescue his comrades before something really unwholesome happens to them. Lots of stuff happens to them on Earth. But threats come in the form of a bunch of faggot carrots! and a Devine Exicutioner – the most dangerous Divine Assassin of them all! As the show storyline twists and turns we also see the lovely Lyekka return. This time as an evil porn actress! And just when things couldn’t get any better, Xev eats Kai! She also dies! But not for long. Xev is revived in Battersea Power Station by an ugly Fairy King and a bearded-midget-gay-bloke wearing a dress (the Fairy Kings wife!).
And the series just goes from bad to worse, Bad Carrot and 769 seemed (to me at least) the low points of the LEXX saga. Prime Ridge and Mort seemed a little better (but not much). All that can be said for the Supreme Beans is that they are clearly lulling us into a false sense of security ready for the big stuff that will happen towards the end of the season. Although gradually wareing us down, we can still see the odd flash of brilliance. And sure enough, it took until episode 18, but the excellence that was The Game heralded a renaissance. It was written and directed by Paul Donovan and in my opinion, showed off some of his best work. |
