Actually that is the way to do it. When you link an image directly to the site that carries it, then every time someone opens this thread, their site receives a call for that image. This is using up their transfer allowance. Most sites, mine included, allow us to transfer so much per month. IF someone comes to one of my pages and opens it, the images and text are called for and that uses some of my transfer allowance. A problem? No, you are at my site that is how it is suppose to work. However if someone links directly to an image on my page, that means that every time that image is displayed it uses up my transfer allowance with NO benefit to me. Not good. This abuse can cause the smaller free sites to be listed as ‘UNAVAILABLE DUE TO EXCESSIVE USE’ or it can cause the smaller sites to get nasty notes from their host companies to reduce their usage or pay more. On the bigger sites it just adds to the burden on the server. Copying someone else’s images and putting them on your personal page to use is called ‘snerching’. Normally, as long as the home site doesn’t have any major warnings about using their images, you can put them on your personal page as long as you acknowledge the source. (Usually with a link) In the cases where the original images are copyrighted, a disclaimer is needed. Under these circumstances most people don’t mind, and you are generally okay, unless the original image owner has a major cow, in which case you have to remove the images they are upset about.

That answer being “NO, they do not encourage direct linking.” But what about the images of the Monkey and the Yawner on this thread? I prefer to use words to get my point across, but if you have a picture you want to direct people’s attention to, try using the URL. That way if people want to see it, they can pop over to that page. You get your point across, that hosting page gets some traffic, and the graphic is not called for every single time someone opens that thread.

P.s. I still think Jar Jar Binks should be sacrificed to the Rating Gods.

Well I saw it today. I totally disagree with theBrother. This movie had more snooze factor that a whole bottle of nightquil. Some of the CGI was great, some was not. The dialoge was totaly painful, and….. the kid playing Anikin Skywalker made me want to slap the sugar out of him until he straightened up and quit pouting. Oh and I still have not gotten to see JarJar Binks blown into the next galaxy. Sigh…. and I had such high hopes too.

Pander? How so? How do we not know that the original movie was not *The Vision* and that the story line was not sillied up a bit for greater series acceptance.

The original movies had tons of humour in them, but it was a sly, black kind of humour which I loved. I would dearly like to see a more serious series with flashes of gem like humour in it, rather that the pie in the face stuff that some of the series episodes resorted to. Was Tina Louise/Ginger Grant harassed by a few fruitloops who made everyone else look bad? Or did the character of Ginger and the whole concept of Gilligan’s Island just irk her artistic little soul? I would imagine that her distaste for the memories of that time period did not hinge on only one item, and indeed might have been colored by her private personal experiences at the time, but I don’t think anyone but Ms. Louise could answer that one.

Well I don’t know what MMM twack has planned for his future, but I do hope it brings him joy. After all, despite his lack of enthusiasm for the fan side of acting and Lexx in general, there is no doubt that many of us enjoyed his performances as Kai.

Right now getting Lexx a permanent time slot on SciFi is where we should be focusing our energies right now.

Lot’s of peeps have been talking about writing SciFi about a spin off. I think at this time that would be a waste of effort until there is something to promote. We will know when/if our help is needed. The powers that be, have always told us when they need our help, this time will not be any different.

What might be a better thing to work on RIGHT now is telling SciFi how wonderful Lexx is and how it needs a permentant time slot!!! You know, a time slot that can help it build a bigger fan base to support future projects.

So I think we should all send nice letters to Sci-fi and sweet talk them into putting Lexx into heavy rotation on their schedule…. so we will be in a better position to take over the world later, when a future project does occur. Be nice, be positive, send them snail mail. Huh? Snail mail? Yes, snail mail. Just like in the business world, a phone call gets you an answer, but a letter gets their FULL attention. Don’t ask me why. I think it has something to do with the ‘went to more effort’ form of thinking. Also a letter is seen and handled by more people and harder to ignore than an email that can be deleted by one press of a keyboard button by a bored Sci-Fi minion.

Bonne, when someone states that they like the mouse, and people continue to try to convince them otherwise repeatedly then it is not merely the stating of their opinion. If it was a case of merely stating your opinion, you would say something along the lines of “Well the reason’s I dislike the mouse are…..”
But when you start the thread off with “Aleck, obviously you’re not convinced by an ‘elitist’ like Eco. I’ll try another suggestive approach.” I would did not take it merely the stating of you opinion, but another attempt to convince Aleck, after he has already said “I love Disney ect……” So please feel free to state you opinions, but perhaps not starting them with the “Aleck…. I’ll try another suggestive approach.” Would be best, then other people, like myself, would not think it was yet another attempt to make Aleck see the error of his ways.
Oh and while I have never been to Disneyland and have taken exception to several of the recent mangling of classic stories in the Disney grist mill, if Aleck likes the company and the movies I say bravo Aleck. After all if everyone liked the same stuff this would be a pretty boring world.
