Im glad it’s on Kindle – I’ll download it when I get home from work – although it may take a while for me to get to it as I’ve got about 4 books to get through first.

At first glance it reminds me of the Spathi race from Star Control…which can only be a good thing.

Ha Ha! Can’t believe the old gang is getting back together!

What a sad bunch we are.

I was just thinking about the old podcasts and never having anything to say about South African sci-fi, and here we are with the District 9 movie.

Drop me a mail if you can, would like to know how you’ve all been.

    I thought it was fun.

I didn’t like the bits with his mother. Was kind of like a "well, here this is so that we can make another movie".

Still, worth watching. Will get the dvd.

    Need to look into that.

True. Lexx was an eye opener for me. However, I look at a series like Lost and start to think it’s going the same way as Prison Break. It catches the publics eye (imagination), and the next minute there are another 3000 episodes on the way and the story becomes random points of no real interest or outcome.

I can’t remember when the last good hardcore sci-fi that (I enjoyed) came to the cinema.

PS, the books should be arriving soon. How cool is the South African postal service! It takes about a month to get something from Amazon. It leaves the US or UK the following day, lands in Jo’burg after two days, and then takes 3 and a half weeks to get to Durban from Jo’burg (a 12 hour drive at tops).

Wow. Look at me talking. Must be bored at work or something. 😯

You know, you may be someoldguy, but to me, you are my new hero!

I bought “Janissaries” (I saw african mercenaries and space abduction in the same sentance and clicked on ‘add to my cart’ straight away) 😀

I also bought Star Flight by Andre Norton (two in one special) as well as her “From the Sea to the Stars”.

Thanks for those. I am sure I will enjoy them.

PS God Bless Wiki. I just googled Andre Norton and found out he was a she.

I am also really excited about the movie coming out. Was looking at some clips on http://media.movies.ign.com/media/568/568421/vids_1.htmlhttp://media.movies.ign.com/media/568/568421/vids_1.html when I read your message here.

Heh. Not quite sure yet. Am still wondering why I laughed and wasn’t completely horrified.

On a serious note, it looks like it could actually be quite funny. Kind of like ‘Will and Grace’, or should I say ‘Will in Space’.

Read some of the comics, not to impressed with the bit that I saw, although I think I saw a movie, not a tv series.

Might be worth having another look at.

Enemy Mine, Last Star Fighter and 5th Element are not something I would be ashamed of. All are featured in my dvd collection, and I am quite proud.

In terms of cheesy and cult classics, I love my old dvds like Invaders from Mars, the Crawling Eye and of course, my all time favorite movie ever, ‘The creature from black lagoon’.

ok, what have you done with The Frey?

I loved the first Neverending Story. It was a great movie! I think that if you had to have a list of the worst movie sequals ever, The Neverending Story sequals would be number one on it.

I thought the main actors were really poor in their performances (and it’s not like I was expecting oscar stuff) and found the story way to cheesy.

I almost felt insulted sitting in the cinema watching that dribble.

Then again, each to their own.

I am sure I will be in the minority on this one as it will almost definitely be a box office smash.

    1) I have been thrown out of many, many bars, pubs, clubs and have also been on the recieving end of many a punch, although never due to sci-fi (that I can remember).

    2) I’d go with the Invid for being the worst alien enemy ever.

I watched “Silent Hill” a while back.

Went home, changed my shorts and slept with the light on.

I hate scary movies, and that really ranks up there as one of the most scary movies I’ve ever seen.

Cool soundtrack though. I think it was some Japanese composer or something.

I watched Smokin Aces… thought it was crap.
I watched Children of Men… thought it was crap.
I watched Ghost Rider… thought it was crap.
I watched Wild Hogs… thought it was okay.

On video recently there have been a few good ones. Watched Flushed Away and laughed my head off. From the moment the one rat complained about his bum looking like a japanese flag after a hot curry I was hooked. I also went to the missus home and was upset that I had to sit down and watch a chic flic called ‘shes the man’. Having said that, it really made me laugh. I am almost embarresed to say I enjoyed it. On the telly last night I watched a great film called ‘goal’. I am not a soccer fan, but the story was good enough to keep me quite involved in the characters.

…”If I ruled the entertainment world”… now you’ve got me thinking!

I’d love to do a Batman movie. I’d make it similar to the first “Alien” movie where you don’t see him (Batman) in full until right at the end. Maybe show a shadow or arm of the batsuit, and have the movie play out as more of a dark thriller, until the end of the movie where a huge showdown takes place between Batman and an evil villain like the Joker.

I’d make it dark and sinister, so the viewer is not really sure whether batman is to harsh on criminals, and then will him on the kill the super evil supervillain.

I should be a director. Maybe I’ll be hired for Star Trek 36. Either that or “Sadcast 2016 Mike and the murder of the greedy director”. 😛

I’ll blame Canada for your dented view on V for Vendetta.

    😛

I havent been really dissapointed with the movies. I do however, normally think about how I would have made the movie better.

Take superman… I would have done a LOT different in that movie, so I guess you could say that I think that superman was a bomb for me.

Yeah, I actuallly had heard that before I read it, so I think (in fairness) that could have played on my mind at the time, sort of making me think that the writer wasn’t that talented.

I’ll go see it, but I must admit, I don’t have high expectations. Not a big fan at all.

I read it and couldn’t help the fact that I felt I was reading a fan fic of sorts. It always felt like it was written by a teenager to me.

Then again, anyone that takes literary advice from me needs there head checked. (I get stoked over breakfast box stories)

Sadly, I think your only bet would be to purchase it off http://www.amazon.com or somewhere similar.

You can get the complete series for about 45$. I often wonder why the repeat some of the crap they do, and let a lot of the good stuff slip away.
