One of my favorite sexy Lexx moments was during 3.03 Gametown. No it’s not Bunny’s shower scene! It’s when Xev rushed onto the bridge to prevent Stan blowing up the planet Water. She grabs him by the collar, throws him to the floor, and muffles his face with her breasts so Stan couldn’t order the Lexx to blow up anything. Yowza! It was hilarious! Besides, Lyekka is a lot creepier than Zev. Zev is weird, but not scary. Lyekka has a genuinely frightening and disquieting persona.

Trust me on this one, DT790:

Zev = Eva Habermann

Xev = Xenia Seeberg

The spelling of the character’s name was changed in order to avoid confusion.

Slop co-founded ORAL with KSA, that’s true, but he was one of the reasons we had to take our Kai drooling into a private chat room. It was Ayrton who liked hanging out with the women, no matter how much estrogen we oozed, and it was AYRTON who gave our group a name.

Wow! Kai-drooling made impossible on a bboard dedicated to Lexx! Surely a crime against humanity!

I am one of those people who very rarely visits the SciFi bboard. Mainly because of it’s technically poor structure. (Old messages scroll off the page and are forgotten.) I have no idea what any of this trouble is about.

In actuality, it’s a made-up organization formed for the purpose of playing a role-play/fanfic game with clones. The posts are all clearly marked so that other people who are not interested in them can avoid them. That’s all it is. And the people who are ignored are people who have purposely flamed us (including using obscenity and name calling) for no other reason than that we like to play the game and have fun. We don’t ask anyone to join who doesn’t want to, but we welcome anybody who enjoys it.

Based on what I have read of this issue so far, I beleive this is the cause of the trouble that has manifested. Role-playing game? What role-playing game? This is the first I have known of any game that is staged in the SciFi.com Lexx bboard. If there is an ongoing role-playing game that is taking place on a bboard, I can very easily understand why there has been an immense amount of confusion. Newbies to the bboard would have no idea if a thread is dedicated to a game or a real discussion. You say that the rpg posts are clearly marked. It is possible that these markings have not been effective. In other words, I do not recommend conducting a role-playing game on that particular bulletin board. It seems to cause confusion and anger.

Am I being hypocritical with my own “RPG” character, “Flamegrape”? Maybe. But I don’t use her to act out any fictional events or to use the character as a false facade. She’s more like a cybernetic hall-costume (to use the fan convention term). My thoughts and opinions that I present through Flamegrape are genuine. But it’s also my way to remain anonymous in an orignial manner.

As I recall, without actually going back and reviewing the “Analyzing Scifi fans” post, there were no attacks. Only statements of bitter complaint regarding the postings on the SciFi.com Lexx bboard, which remains within the subject of “Analyzing Scifi fans”. And everyone has been behaving in a mostly civil manner.

It seems pretty clear to me now. Thanks for clearing up some of those issues. As I said, the presence of a role-playing game can easily contribute to confusion on a bboard. I beleive there has been a big misunderstanding.

And no, I’m not a moderator. I have no idea if appealing to them is relavent here in this case. From what I have seen since I’ve joined the SadGeezer bboard, there has been little need for executive action.

That’s a great idea! Prince would be perfect.

Lyekka I’m not too sure about. Although it would be fun to create models of her in different costumes, I’m not sure she would be appropriate for a splatter-fest videogame. Her weapon was eating people. That can’t be replicated for Q3A or EF. I don’t know, can you picture Lyekka with a rocket launcher or a phaser rifle in her hands?

How about Thodin from IWHS?

A plain old cluster lizard would also be fun. The guns could be placed inside it’s mouth, as if it were “breathing fireballs”.

Oh, I should have mentioned a couple things. If you have suggestions about which quote I should use for “taunts”, please let me know which episodes the quotes came from. Although I have copies of almost all of the episodes of Lexx on tape or DVD, I don’t have it all memorized!

Also, I have a special request. I have a number of Kai pictures in my collection but I don’t have enough. In particular, I’m looking for full-frontal pictures of Kai (from head to toe). It would be wonderful if I could track down pics of him from the front and back. I could capture video of him from the show itself, but publicity photos are better. Now, the show is being handled insanely at the hands of SciFi, and that may have led to Salter’s decision to end it after 4 seasons, but from everything that Paul has said, the story has been heavily plotted to last this long from the beginning.
I’m not saying that huge ratings wouldn’t influence them to extend the show in some form into other seasons, perhaps not as LEXX but as something else, but if you even ask politely why they’re cancelling the show, the reply I’ll lay odds you’ll receive is this: “We’re not cancelling LEXX. We’d love to continue airing the program. Salter has decided to end the run after this season, however. This was not our decision.” I’ll bet you that this will be said almost verbatim.
I’ll lay even closer odds that this is one of the only questions he’ll answer about LEXX, simply because he can answer it in a way that makes the network appear blame-free.

I would NOT place japanese anime in the same category as “cult science-fiction”.

You really have to be tolerant of anime first before you can enjoy any of those movies. For newbies, you have to sit them down and go through the whole lecture that not all cartoons are for children, that the japanese have been making adult-oriented comics and cartoons for years, and that it’s a sad thing that Heavy Metal is the only popular adult-oriented western animated movie. Most people are still fixated on the idea that all cartoons are for kids.

With live-action movies, you don’t have to educate new viewers and convince them that it’s okay for them to watch it.

Myself, I find the vast majority of anime to be annoying. (Now STOP, I haven’t finished!) It was explained to me a long time ago by this nice japanese girl I met in art school. There are all sorts of anime. There’s anime for young children, pre-teens, teens, young adults, adults, and dirty old b*stards (This is the big difference between anime and popular western cartoons.) I can only stomach anime that is directed at young adults or older. I’m extremely picky about what anime I prefer.

Too many times I’ve been recommended some anime only to be disappointed. It’s rare that I come across anime that is worth a second viewing. I’ll never forget Vampire Hunter D or whatever it was called. I was told that it was one of the coolest. Not. And then there’s Fist of the North Star. Yeah, right, I wanted watch an anime wrestling movie. Not.

Some of the anime movies I like are Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Princess Mononoke, and Naussica. There aren’t many others I like. But none of them I would consider cult sci-fi classics. None. They remain in the category of anime, or (at best, though not encouraged) under the category of animation in general.

Don’t get your hopes up.

I’m constantly imagining what it’s like for the cast and crew of Lexx. If I were them, I’d want to move on.

But if there’s a spin-off, then I want The Xev Show or Xevivor!

I wouldn’t expect another Lexx series. The story seems to be wrapping up. Even though I’m a hardcore Lexx fan, I can live with just four seasons of the show. “It all makes senseless sense somehow…”

However, as I’ve said in some other thread, I wouldn’t mind seeing a show that was created by the same people. I can picture the ads: “From the makers of Lexx comes a new show that is out of this world…”

No, I said I’d like to be eaten by Xev, not Zev! There’s a world of difference. And being a fusion-powered biomechanical android with a chitinous exoskeleton, the point is moot. I think she might gag on my bug-juice blood. And besides, I think I’d be too tough to chew since my body is very dense; I weigh half a ton, despite my girlish figure! Anyway, the whole issue of whether or not I can get together with any man is pointless. Oh yeah, I got the parts, thanks to the sick-o mad scientist who created me! For me, all human males are too soft and squishy. I would probably crush their pelvis. No man’s body would have the necessary physical density to… ah… wait a minute… are you thinking what I’m thinking? Uh, oh…

I can’t really make a top 10 list of favorite Lexx episodes. I really have to wait until season 4 is over with and after I obtain all of the season 2 DVDs.

But here are some of my favorites:

3.0 Eating Pattern
2.3 Lyekka
2.5 Lafftrak
2.18 Brigadoom
3.1 Fire & Water
3.4 Boomtown
4.03 P4X
4.05 Xevivor

Once all of the episodes have aired in the UK, someone should set up a JAVA-script poll webpage. But only after it airs in the UK! Or maybe after it airs in all of the other major countries too, such as Germany and Australia.

RAILING DEATH
As illustrated in MST3K episode, #820 Space Mutiny. In any fight/chase scene, bad guys getting tossed over the side of of the catwalk/very-high-place. If this involves stumbling over a railing, this is known as railing death.

THE IMPERIAL STORMTROOPER ACADEMY OF MARKSMANSHIP
In said firefights, all badguys will miss. The less clothing the heroes wear, the less likely they will be hit by badguys.

SCREAMING FEMALES
Not so common these days. Useless female that only screams during stressful situations. As illustrated by Tess Trueheart on Star Trek: Voyager. That’s why Zev/Xev is so cool!

DT790, the next time you have that dream, I think you should marinate yourself and dive in. In other words, face your fears or anxiety or whatever may be causing you concern. You may undergo quite a transformation! Sexual symbolism, I think, is only window-dressing.

Myself, I love it when I have those flying dreams when I’m aware that I have the waking-dream ability to fly! It wasn’t until I saw Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon that I saw this experience manifest on the screen. Especially that last sceen in the bamboo grove.

I don’t know about Lyekka, but I wouldn’t mind having a dream about being eaten by Xev, the half-cluster lizard. Or am I going too far with my post? EAT ME! LOL!

I had a dream that I was hanging out with Stan, Kai, & Xev. We were at some sort of large outdoor festival. Maybe we were at a Phish concert or a Rainbow Gathering, I don’t know. It’s been a while, I don’t remember the details. Next time I have a dream involving anyone in Lexx, I’ll relate all of the lurid details to you all.

I havent enjoyed a sci-fi show like this since Red Dwarf, and its going to be years before they put those episodes on DVD.

Farscape, well, its more of a childrens show, and becomes more of one with each year. Im suprised Cookie Monster and Big Bird havent shown up as guest stars.

The producers of LEXX should try to get TNN to pick it up now that they own the episode rights to ST:TNG. I cant see it on any other american cable channel.

I hope they put Red Dwarf on DVD. If not, then I’ll do it myself. I recently purchased the first 3 episodes on a videotape. I’m getting a DVD-R soon….

Yes, they did turn Farscape into a kid’s show during one episode. Half of the episode was a cartoon that spoofed Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner.

I doubt TNN, The Nashville Network (based in Nashville, Tennessee, of course) would pick up a show like Lexx. It’s amazing that they picked up Star Trek, but that’s just because it’s a popular franchise. Lexx is no where near as popular as Trek. I think USA would be a perfect home for Lexx reruns. Isn’t SciFi and USA owned by the same company?

DT790, there is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary about such dreams. I’m not a psychologist, but I’ve read a few books and things. I don’t think that the dream suggests anything other than anxiety, manifesting itself through sexual means. It is absolutely no indicator of orientation.

My advice about not visiting the Isle of Lesbos was my sly way of saying, “Don’t hang around women for the moment. You don’t need the stress.” I was hoping that you would look up the Isle of Lesbos. It was an ancient Greek island inhabited only by women. It’s also related to the origin of the word, “lesbian”. Therefore, staying on an island full of women would cause you distress of untold comic proportions. They can’t go spouting off scientific jargon because they don’t know any. Stan reacts to most situations in a manner that befits a “joe average.” He’s frightened, he’s driven by self-preservation and self-interests, and he clings to whatever he can so that he can feel like he’s in control of the situation (his hat, his position as captain, etc.). Xev acts in a realistic manner as well, though she is explicitly relegated to “fantasy female.” She’s multi-faceted and she’s more than what her looks and her designation (love slave) would lead you to believe about her. Kai is extremely literal, and oft-times maddening. Which is pretty much how I’d expect a living dead guy to be.

I see your point. I suppose I’m too rigid with my definition of “realistic” science-fiction. I believe that 2001: A Space Odessy is the most realistic science-fiction story ever put on screen. What’s unrealistic about Lexx? I guess that’s a good subject for another thread! Yes, we Americans have established a bad speed-freak habit when it comes to pacing in television and movies. It has resulted in a generation afflicted with ADHD. There is no way that I can get anyone my age (or younger) to sit through Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris without them falling asleep or complaining of bordrome. It’ll take John Cameron’s over-the-top remake to get any young american even remotely aware of the storyline. The planet Solaris will probably be filled with monsters of the imagination come to life or some such dreck! Mark my words.

I politely disagree. But I like Lexx because I think it is NOT realistic. It has an air of Flash Gordon or Barbarella. It isn’t bogged down with techno-babble jargon like Star Trek. The machine (or whatever in question) works or it doesn’t, who cares how. And the task of explaining all the technical details is relegated to a decapitated robot. Very fitting!

Then again, if you are a producer who is trying to get good prime time ratings in the states, you give your audience a characters they can associate with on some self assuring level. Americans, for the most part, like to think of themselves as Crichton/Harry Callaghan/The Guy From Die Hard: A working class hero, who loves his friends and family, would proudly die for a good cause, always makes the honorable decision, hates “evil,” and only has enough flaws to make him feel human. And to compliment Ben Browder’s character is basically your typical “ship of fools” roster. Everyone fills a role. That’s why they each seem like archetypes(because they are!). Its easy to write(partially because it has been done before) and its easy to follow, which is probably why Sci-Fi channel’s programming directors love it so much. And, of course, Scorpius is just your run of the mill villain, who might as well have a long black mustache to twiddle. Okay, I’ll shut up. Just wanted to direct the discussion a little more.

Yuck! That’s what I really hate about most of popular television and movies. That damned formula! It has been lectured to me in film history classes that it’s all the same story, retold again and again in different ways. (c.f. Joseph Campbell) That’s the only way to make the best stories? That only sets limits, not open doors. It’s conceivable that our intelligence and imagination can evolve beyond such conventional barriers. Hero defeats foe. Big deal. What’s the point of retelling the same story over and over again? This is one big thing that prevented me from becoming a writer myself. I had this realization that if my stories were to sell, then I’d have to follow this damned formula.

How much you wanna bet that the production of the second SciFi Channel Dune movie will be put on hold for politically correct reasons?

Political Correctness! That’s one thing that could be improved about Farscape! Get rid of that ”working class hero, who loves his friends and family, would proudly die for a good cause, always makes the honorable decision, hates “evil,” and only has enough flaws to make him feel human” mentality. It’s like the big thing I dislike about Star Trek, the morality being shoved down my throat! If you wanna talk politics, that’s the big thing that makes most of humanity miserable!

Has anyone noticed how much Lexx has been lampooning american culture, especially during the 4th season? I think it’s great! (I’m a United States citizen.) It’s about damned time, too! I seldom, if ever, get to see outside views of the United States. All around me, I witness unreasonable patriotism and… oh, hell I won’t even bother. (Yes, really bad things have happened recently and I support my president totally. That’s another issue.)

A couple of people who just wanna get laid, a dead guy, and robot head, all riding around in a bug bug. Now that’s my absurdist cup of tea. Stan had it right from the beginning, “I know my bad planets and that [points at Earth] is a bad planet!”

Great googely-moogely! An intelligent analysis of Lexx! Oh no! We’re made, man, we’re made! We gotta stop watching the show before it’s taken seriously and becomes a popular and widely-accepted science-fiction phenomena! Better yet, let’s lobby for it’s cancellation! That’ll keep those high-brow mucky-mucks off our backs! What’s that you say? It’s going to end with the forth season anyway? What a relief, we’re in the clear!

SERIOUSLY THO….

I agree with what theFrey said about the SciFi Channel’s marketing favoritism of Farscape over Lexx. It’s a crime that Lexx does not re-run at a normal time slot like Farscape.

I think that Farscape is not a bad show at all. The effects are fantastic and the stories are engaging. But if I blink (or someone in the room is talking while I’m trying to watch the show), then I’m completely lost and I have no idea what’s going on in the story. Keeping up with the ongoing story of Farscape requires more than a little effort.

LOL! Lizard got it right. The characters on Farscape do act like snot-nose American highschool students as seen in too many other shows. Very good point! I’ve been wondering for a long time why are the characters on Farscape argue all of the time? Is that the only way to advance character development? Aren’t there other ways of revealing depth of character or invoking drama?

I don’t think Star Wars is to Star Trek as Lexx is to Farscape. (Wasn’t that on an I.Q. test?) Lexx is more akin to Red Dwarf or Hitchhiker’s Guide or Doctor Who or maybe even a little bit of Space:1999. (My GOD! Those are all UK tv shows!) In what ways are they similar to Lexx? The Red Dwarf is a city-sized spaceship with a tiny crew and silly things happen to them. (Lexx is a city-sized ship with a tiny crew and silly things happen to them.) The TARDIS is one of the most powerful tools in the universe, bending time and space, controlled by an unlikely individual. (Lexx is the most powerful weapon in the two universes, captained by a nitwit.) The Hitchhiker’s Guide and Red Dwarf is filled with humor that has Earth-based subreferences. (Lexx visiting Lafftrak, the planet of television shows, is a really good example. Or how about Vrml, the planet of the inbred rednecks.) Space:1999 had those far-out aliens and science-fiction storylines that you couldn’t quite take seriously. (Lexx is filled with such aliens and situations, but there is no attempt to take itself seriously.)

I just can’t see much similarity bewteen Lexx and Star Wars. Thus I disagree with thefrey on this point.

FX really hit it on the nose. Lexx is certainly not optimistic and hero-centric as is REQUIRED of all American television. Although Farscape has a darker tone than usual, there’s still that gung-ho American guy who’s always trying to look on the bright side or do what’s right and just (the typical hero). Who’s the hero on Lexx? Not Stan because he didn’t bravely kill himself in order to save a hundred heretic worlds from the wrath of His Divine Shadow. Not Xev because she has no ambitions of glory or fighting bad guys. She just wants to get laid (which is also true of Stan). Kai is just plain dead. The dead are not heroes, as he might say. Maybe all three of them together act as one hero? With Lyekka and 790 helping out at different times, they all defeated His Divine Shadow, Mantrid, and Prince(?). Don’t forget that Thodin, the certifiable hero in the first Lexx movie, I Worship His Shadow, was killed by Kai! Some would argue that Kai is the ultimate tagic hero. The theft of the Lexx was not the goal of a great quest on the part of Stan, Zev (not to be confused with Xev), and Kai. It sort of “happened” and they’ve been dealing with it ever since.

I have no idea what the ratings have been for any show. All I know is that ratings have zero relevance when it comes to quality.

I’ll stop writing for now. If i think of other stuff, I’ll chime in again.

Oops! I forgot to mention Lex Gigeroff as Dennis Hopper’s photo journalist. That would be perfect!

“I love the smell of __________ in the morning! Smells like…. __________ !”

I can picture Prince as Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando). Or maybe Vlad? Or maybe 790 babbling useless nonesense!
Kai as Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen).
Stan as Clean (Laurence “Larry” Fishburne).
Xev as Lance Johnson the surfer (Sam Bottoms).
790 as Chef (Frederick Forrest).
I don’t know where I’m going with this…

Maybe they’ll drop acid in a war zone? Go surfing at an invasion beachhead?
