I want to thank you for bringing them to my attention. I posted links to them at another forum that I frequent.

The big problem for people in America is the lack of “first season” DVDs. You can buy them from Canada but you can’t buy or rent them in the United States. Netflix, an extremely popular mail-order rental service, has all of the other seasons available for rental. But not the first season.

Somewhere in an old box of tapes, I think I have a copy of that advert. I have no idea how long it would take to find it again. But it would be worthy of YouTube. That was my favorite ad for the show.

Someday I’ll find it and put it up on YouTube. How soon that will be, I don’t know.

I’ll check it out. However, I’ve already gone through about 30 minutes of the film. This is the first time I’ve done subtitles so I might be doing something wrong and it might be all for naught. You know how these technical projects can go.

I’m in the process of ripping the DVD to an AVI file (takes 7 hours). Then I’ll upload it as a torrent to someplace like torrentspy or isohunt.

I’ll let you know when it’s done.

I’ll download those files and take a look at them if I can. I must admit that I don’t know what those different formats are all about. I’m using Adobe Encore and it’s a very nice WYSIWYG program. I just type in the subtitles in a video preview window and adjust it using a timeline and character properties control. I like what I’m seeing so far. I’m using Albertus font for the subtitles, the same font that was used for numerous John Carpenter movie titles and credits. I’m also able to set the position of the subtitles so I can occasionally position them directly underneath the speaking character.

But like I said, I might have screwed something up and I just don’t know it yet.

I’ll check in with you later. 🙂

I’ll be watching tonight. It comes on in a couple hours.

A year and a half ago, I recall chatting with Virginia Hey. At that time, she was completely convinced that it was over for good. Although she is a very nice woman and seems to always have a cheery attitude (and very spiritual, I might add) she was sure that there was no hope of it returning. I explained to her that Farscape’s cancellation was on par with the cancellation of Star Trek in the late 1960s. A massive fan campaign brought it back. Farscape has had a similar impact. No other sci-fi show in recent memory has had this kind of impact. Virginia was sympathetic, but truly had little hope of the show’s return.

    Well, looky here! It’s returned.

Alas, no one cares. There’s not enough of a fanbase. And the rest of fandom arrogantly despises this show, “the anti-Trek.”

It would have to get rerun on a channel that would prominently feature it instead of the wee hours of the morning. From there, a new and as-yet unimaginable cult fanbase would have to form that would make watching LEXX a fashionable thing to do in the eyes of the public at alarge; something that would be featured in a future episode of VH-1’s “I Love the ’00s”.

If the product can’t be sold, it won’t be made. It doesn’t matter how cool I think it is. I liked Catwoman so no one should listen to my ranting anyway.

Excellent movie. Got the DVD special edition. I recommend it to anyone. I tell people to not be fooled by the Elvis vs. The Mummy theme. It’s based on an excellent novella. One of the extras on the DVD has the original author read the first chapter.

This is a totally unique movie. “A redemptive Elvis mummy film.”

I bet that Tom Bombadil is Eru, God Himself. Gandalf refered to him as Eldest yet he also stated that Treebeard was probably the oldest living thing in Middle-earth. I take that to mean something profound. Also, Tom was the only character in the story that was not tempted by the power of Ring in any way. If Gandalf, an “angel” that was sent to Middle-earth, is even affected by the Ring, this should indicated how unimaginably powerful Tom Bombadil was supposed to be.

I disagree with some of the critics of LEXX. I particularly enjoyed it when the continuity stopped making sense. In the past, I had argued that the fabric of existence had become shaken with the destruction of the Light Zone. Then the two planets Fire & Water that were some sort of metaphysical system that was destroyed and funneled onto Earth. And when the Earth was destroyed, the characters were left with a clean slate.

I didn’t really give a darn if the LEXX universe was brought “full circle.” I think that Kai, his struggle, and the Time Prophet was obviously a parody of far-fetched sci-fi cliches. Many fans expected big things out of Kai and his ongoing story. But what I had always argued was that Kai’s Hero story arc was over in the first five minutes of the first episode. He served no real purpose except for saving the other characters’ bacon. Granted, he finally got his wish to die a hero’s death in the end. But I also frequently argued that Stan and Xev were the real main characters and that Stan was technically the real Hero. Kai never developed further than he did in the first movie. I think it’s possible to continue the story after the fourth season without Kai. He was a joke that went on for far too long.

It would be depressing if the cycle of time repeated itself and all that horrible misery occured again. Why should we want that? Xev and Stan managed to break that cycle and turn metaphysics on it’s head (in their own blissfully ignorant way). I would think that demanding some sort of “order” to the story and continuity would be anathama to most fans. I enjoyed each episode at face value and I was tremendously entertained.

And I still maintain that “A Midsummer’s Nightmare” was brilliant.

But I’ve argue all of this before. LEXX is pure bulldada. Praise “Bob!”

I call the show “Le Femme Neo” because it seems like it’s taken bits of La Femme Nikita and The Matrix and repackaged it. And didn’t someone do something like this in the ’90s? It was some Daryl Hannah look-alike with a Sun computer with VR goggles. I remember reading a comic called “Espers” that featured a character who could mentally interface with the Net. So the idea isn’t new. Even Space: 1999 did it one time. I’ll give it a half season. A full season at best.

I had a ton of fun playing the PS2 game “Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick.” I don’t know anything about the first Evil Dead game that was made, but I’ve been told that “Boomstick” is much better. I had so much fun playing through the adventure that I played through it again. There’s even a button to press that makes Ash quip a one-liner.

Anyway, the game had a “making of” video included. In an interview with Bruce Campbell, he said that he wouldn’t mind making another movie but that Sam was “busy making Spiderman.” (The game was made a while ago.) He didn’t really say anything about money problems. IMHO, I somehow doubt that money is a problem because the franchise is so popular.

Some trekkers are complaining about the evolving relationship between Trip and T’Pol on “Enterprise.” It has me somewhat baffled because I thought there was something developing between her and Archer. And then there’s the issue of her being a Vulcan without emotions who’s not supposed to be attracted to humans, etc., nitpick, etc., nitpick, etc….

The relationship between Delenn and Sheridan on “Babylon 5” was really cool, I thought. It’s plot significance was tremendous.

If I remember correctly, the relationship between Han Solo and “Her Worshipfulness” was left in the hands of the fans. Luke didn’t win that vote, I think. Chewbacca was a darkhorse longshot.

    My non-political 2 cents.

My brother is over in Iraq right now. He works for a company that has a contract with the military to dispose of munitions. He said that at the current rate they are going (destroying some huge amount of bombs per day) it will take decades to destroy the vast quantities of old ammo, bombs, mines, etc. that Saddam accumulated over the years.

He also said that the Iraqis are glad that Saddam is gone, but many of them would like to see the Americans leave as soon as possible. Some, obviously, more than others.

Another quick note. We’ve been seeing in the news that soldiers and convoys have been amushed every other day or so. Just so people know, there are hundreds upon hundreds of convoys every single day.
