that was a hallmark of the original show,
along with the fact that it was generally
most peoples first real exposure to the scifi

I know exactly what you mean, Siglum. I must confess that I was ready to hate any new Trek show. I liked TNG, disdained DS9 (because it was a rip-off of B5), and got burned with VOY (I loved Seska, then they killed her off, and it took 6of9 to bring me back to the show). But even after all of that, I still wanted to give the new show a chance.

I’ve avoided reading any info about the new show. I stayed away from bboards that discussed what the show might be like. Those bboards are filled with the hate-it-before-you-see-it lot. Of course, I couldn’t ignore the TV commercials so that was about all I knew about the show. The only real opinion I had was that, with Scott Bakula as captain, it would be an interesting show.

And so after seeing the first show, I give it the thumbs up. Those boys at NASA are heavily acknowledged in the opening credits of the show– with clips of the moon landing, space shuttle, and space station construction. And I think it has a sharper flavor than other Rick Berman’s Trek shows.

But that was just the pilot episode. They have plenty of time to wreck a good show! But take a look at it when it airs in the U.K.

I’m working on my own space flight simulator. It’s based on the Eagle from Space:1999. (Quaternion rotations were a headache!) Visit http://www.space1999.net/videogames/ for more details about my game(s).

Can we get any more off topic?

I thought Enterprise was really good! I noticed that it is darker and reminds me very much of Babylon 5.

Scott Bakula was a perfect choice as Captain.

T’Pol is babe-a-licious. Too bad she’s a Vulcan. That Kes hairstyle has got to go! She could get away with better.

I’ve heard of fans complaining that the ship looks too advanced, that it should resemble ST:TOS ships. But something occured to me. In First Contact, Cochran got a glimpse of the 1701-E through the telescope. He found out what starships will look like. This changed the timeline, I think. (It’s just a thought…)

I wonder what the Klingons were saying, too.

I would like to know why I was given a rating of 4 out of 5. What did I do to deserve a less than perfect rating? I’ll never know, will I? So what good is this rating system? Ever since I received this 4 rating I’ve felt slighted, if not insulted.

You see, after receiving this rating I started to make guesses about who voted in this manner and why they might have done it. What did I do to offend anyone? But if I ever find out who voted for me in this way, I would start to treat them differently.

Or I could just leave this bboard, never to return. This is what I did when I was severly punished after I commited a minor infraction (clearly meant as a small joke) in Sparkla’s chat room. What was done to me was harsh and unfair and I flatly refuse to discuss it any further. I only bring the incident up as an example of how internet communication can be used as a form of abuse.

Or I could start whining about getting rid of this rating system. I have not made one complaint about it at all until this point. By bringing up the subject myself, it would only make me look worse. My less-than-perfect rating would be publicly regarded as proper. In fact, I think my complaints about the fascist chat room may have given me my current rating.

To sum it up, it’s a form of BLACKBALLING. This is a practice that is used in college fraternities and secret societies. I beleive that it has no place here.

Thank you.

You could say that I’m ready to create a Quake III Arena mod based on Lexx right now. It is very possible for me to create a total conversion– essentially creating an entirely new game based upon the Quake graphics engine.

The trouble is that I don’t have the time and I would like to devote my efforts to other projects. If, by some miracle, I encounter other Lexx fanatics who are familiar with Quake modification then I would be willing to do it. Either that or provide me with funding and I will assemble a crew of starving computer artists and launch into a real production schedule. (No kidding.)

For the time being, I would be interested in creating player models that could be used with either Quake III Arena or Star Trek: Elite Force. Kai (living), Kai (dead), Zev, Xev (season 2), and Xev (season 3 & 4) are obvious choices. A cluster lizard would be cute.

What’s intriguing about the Q3A engine is that there is already implemented a “grappling hook” weapon mod that is used in exactly the same way that Kai uses his wrist-blade thingy to get around. (What is that thing called, anyway?) All you do is point, it shoots out the line and attaches to any surface (wall, ceiling, or platform suspended in mid-air), and then it pulls you to that surface. From there you can shoot other weapons or jump down onto the ground. It’s really cool.

A deathmatch arena that is based on the interiors of the Lexx could also be constructed as a stand-alone item.

I’m curious about why your friends don’t like Lexx. Are they sci-fi fans who don’t favor that particular show? Or are they sci-fi fans at all? Just wondering.

SadGeezer,

It just so happens that I went to art school and I have a BFA degree in Computer Art.

I’ve seen the graphics that you’ve used before. (Aeon Flux, B5, Farscape, etc.) I think I can refine those ideas or come up with new ones. Frankly, some of those banners are nicely done but very cluttered. I’ll use some of your SadGeezer logo artwork as a starting point…

First question is deadline. How soon do you need them? From the way you seem to put it, you need them “yesterday”.

I can create JPEG banners, animated GIFs, and FLASH animation, if you want. None of this is any problem. The prime factor is time.

I would like to contemplate on some ideas for the next day or two. I would like to get a nice handful done for you in one week. Does that sound good?

The bottom line is I can be you computer graphics dude (bloke, mate, whatever!)

Actually, my first guess would be the Washington Monument. (That is the tall obelisk in the middle of Washington D.C.) If I were a terrorist, that is what I would do. It is a greater symbol of power and strength than the White House.

But then again, these terrorists barely understand Americans. I really don’t have any idea what they were thinking we would do in response. Did they think that we would pressure Isreal to leave the West Bank or something? Suddenly realize what a Great Satan we are, genuflect and prostrate ourselves towards Mecca, and convert instantly to Islam?

This is not merely an everyday bombing. (And it does happen every day, thanks to fundamentalist maniacs!) We will not merely seek the extradition of a few terrorists and put them to trial in our courts a few years from now. Oh no, this is not what we will do.

This is an act of war. Once it is determined who is responsible, I fully expect the President and Congress to declare war upon the nation that harbors these terrorists. (This is something that has not occured since December 1941.) Many people are almost certain that it is Osama bin Laden and the Taliban of Afgahnistan. All we need is confirmation and we will prosecute a war via land, sea, and air. We will not be stopped. We do not care if the Afgahn government claims no responsibility; it is too late for excuses.

The United States has never fallen victim to such a horrendous act of cold-blooded murder of this magnitude. At Pearl Harbor, about 2500 servicemen (approximately) were killed. Yesterday, more than 10,000 innocent civilians were visciously murdered.

A few of my friends have spoken of enlisting or re-enlisting in the U.S. Army. I might consider the same, but I may be more useful as a civilian creating agit-prop art or something like that. But if I am drafted, I will go.

I’ve got some good agit-prop right here:

NEVER FORGET

As I write this, I wonder if this message will be deleted and judged tasteless. Maybe it is. But it is the truth. And it is the reflection of the feelings of most people in the United States.

But above all else, I genuinely hope and pray that it does not come to a declaration of war. Maybe the scoundrels who were directly responsible for this madness will be brought to swift and proper justice.

We don’t know who did this. Maybe it was radical Chinese communists? Maybe Serbians? We just don’t have solid evidence yet. But I heard on the news that US intelligence agencies are “not clueless”, meaning that they probably have a good idea about who did this.

I’ve got a question! (I might think of more later….)

Are there any plans for a Lexx videogame? If not, I am very interested in developing such a game.

(Seriously! I have the experience and technical means to do it. All I need is funding and, in turn, manpower. I know exactly how it technically should be done. It would need at least a year of development. Maybe I could “have their people talk to my people”, etc., etc. It’s either that or continuing my work on a Space:1999 videogame…)

I read that Angeline Jolie LOVED playing the part of Lara Croft. In fact, I read that she really wants to make sequels! I don’t understand why she would suddenly not want to do any more Tomb Raider movies after having such a good time making the first one.

BTW, I loved the movie. And I’ve been playing the videogame since the first one was released. I’m in the process of planning a Lara Croft adventure based on the Canadian adventure movie, The Final Sacrifice, a.k.a. I was wondering the same thing recently. That close-up of the “real” vamire in the cryo-sleep chamber at the end of “Walpurgis Night”. The photograph with the hint of the pointy-hat person in the tower. Both made me think of the Time Prophet. But I figured it was too far-fetched and none of you guys would buy the idea.

But even so, I somehow doubt the idea that the “vampire” in cryostasis is the Time Prophet. However, she is certainly the “assassin’s assassin” the Kai mentioned.

But then I’m European, and our tastes tend to be different to Americans, I think Xenia looks more American than German, but even in her native country Xenia doesn’t hold a candle to Eva.

Which “American” look are you talking about? Anglo-american? African-american? Asian-american? Native-american? Latin-american? Irish-american? East Indian-american? Or what about German-american? Yeah, I think she looks German-american!

Sorry, i should clarify that. I’m only mad at myself for monkeying around with vital parts of the OS when I wasn’t prepared for major maintenance work on my ‘puter! I was planning to reformat my drive anyway. I do it about once a year and it’s been about a year. Besides, I have a very large backup hard drive for my data.

Okay, I’ve found several different versions of the Dr. Who theme. I don’t know everything about the show, so I don’t think I can properly identify the tracks. Can some of you Dr. Who fans help me?

I’m not sure I located the remix that CBrate mentioned. Go to the page and find out. With each track, I wrote down the file size, bit rate, and time. Also included a few comments or notes. But my knowledge of Dr. is limited.

As I post this message, I’m uploading the files to my server. This will take some time, so you might want to wait an hour after I post this message.

Enjoy!

I’ll look for the theme music and the remix. If I have good luck, I’ll post a link to them here.
