Yeah, I recognized him. It’s too bad that I’ve only seen a handful of Red Dwarf episodes in my life. I wish they would show it more often in the USA.

It does com up in a later episode, and is fairly quickly resolved, at least on Kai’s end, but an even smaller amount of essence ends up passed along, which leads to the overall story arc of Season 2. Most of the “Kai possessed” stuff is dealt with quickly in the first episode of Season 2.

Okay, I stand corrected. I have not seen all of season 2….

…but I just got S2V1 DVD in the mail today! Now I can sit down and watch all three of the newly-released season 2 DVDs! (I got S2V2 & S2V3 in the mail last week. I’ve been waiting for S2V1 in order to watch them all sequentially.)

If I’m not mistaken, different versions of that video were released. Some had that shadow effect on Kai’s eyes and other versions did not. Is this true?

I recently viewed my copies of the movies with some friends whom I have turned onto Lexx. I don’t remember any sort of special effect in Kai’s eyes. My version was recorded off the SciFi Channel in the USA.

But in any case, I don’t think this point ever comes up in later episodes of the TV show.

This bad news does not suprise me even in the slightest. In fact, I’ve had the cynical attitude of wondering when the SciFi Channel was going to move Lexx to an obscure time slot. Also, I expect them to never repeat any of these episodes ever again. This is why I’m taping the show.

I have some info. During my search to find out the type/brand of eyeglasses frames that Tina (the nerd goddess) wore on the show, I emailed Salter Street Films. I received a reply telling me that the costume designer was on “summer hiatus” (sic) and that my question would be passed along when she returns.

I’m not sure about everything that happened in season 2 because i haven’t seen all those episodes.

However, in the fourth Lexx movie (season 1), Zev managed to obtain a couple of liters before the Cluster blew up.

I went to school and now live in the South of the USA. I’d like to make an important point.

But first, the issue of racism must be set aside for a moment. I won’t argue about it at all, other than to say that it’s always been everywhere. I think racism stinks, ’nuff said?

Anyway, what sucks about the south is rampant poverty. This dates back to the Civil War. During that war, the economic structure of the south was completely destroyed. Afterwards, there was a “reconstruction” period. But not much has changed and a large number of people here are very poor. This has set the tone for relations between north and south. The south has been mostly in economic depression for as long as anyone can remember. This has set in a dismal “hold your own and be thankful for the crud you have” attitude among most southerners.

This is related to the distrustful attitude towards northerns, who are looked upon as interlopers… people who come in with their money and/or superior attitude, wreck things, make people poorer and leave even wealthier than before. This is a story (usually distorted by the above-mentioned depressing outlook on life) that is repeated time and again.

This has fostered a conservative attitude and a lack of ambition for change. Anything new, different, or creative is looked down upon as a horrible waste of time. That’s why there is not much theater or art in the south. The only activity that is generally accepted is going to church. And oh-my-God, don’t get me started with the Babtists. (Yes, there are really churches around here that regularly do snake handling, speaking in toungues, everything.)

There are some exception in the south. Atlanta, Raleigh, New Orleans, basically any very large metropolitan areas. But everywhere else is mostly ignorant rednecks. There are some educated and enlightened southerners, but they are a small minority and they are always categorized as ignorant rednecks anyway because of their southern accent.

Apparently, many people are saying that there has been a huge economic downturn because of the “Dot-Com Crash” or something like that. No one around here has noticed anything different.

Where do I live, you ask? I was born and raised in Oak Ridge, TN. This city is completely different from everything else in the south. The city was created during WWII as part of the “Manhattan Project” which built the first atom bombs that ended the war with Japan. Today, there is a nuclear weapons facility and a national laboratory here. I grew up and went to school with the sons and daughters of scientists from all over the world. The public schools are top-notch. But it is also a really boring place to live.

The thing that makes Canada and America good for TV is the accent, the funny thing is, is that when you see a programme that has a heavy regional accent, say like NY, us brits can understand them easily and that goes for the deep south as well, whereas I’m sure that some Americans find other American accents difficult to understand.
In this country it’s kinda the same thing, I would not understand someone from Liverpool or Yorkshire, and oddly enough I don’t think Americans would understand them either.
I recently read that a film changed it’s filming location from Yorkshire to London, as they thought Americans would understand someone from London better than someone from Yorkshire…this doesn’t surprise me.
As for Friends, well it’s not the funniest, but it is funnier than any current comedy that we brits have, Buffy is just exciting to us, because we seriously lack that type of adventure program, same goes for Angel.
I’m proud of Lexx, because originally the UK station channel 5 had some involvement in the movies, but they don’t have any in the series.
I would love to see Sky back some American made programmes, one’s that rely on Brit audiences, Sky is a powerful company now, as their parent company is news media corp, who own Fox, so maybe Sky can pull some strings so us Brits don’t get short changed.
It’s annoying when we love a program over here, and the bigwigs in America pull the plug because you guy’s have got fed up with it, it’s happened with so many shows.

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
Episode 910: The Final Sacrifice
Segment Two

[Doorway sequence]
[Mike and Crow are on the bridge]

MIKE: And then, the drunk guy says; “I can’t help being an idiot, I’m
*Canadian*!”

[Mike and Crow break into a fit of laughter]

CROW: Ha, ha! You’re right! They’re so pathetic, Mike!

[We hear Servo blow a whistle. He rushes in from the right dressed as a Royal
Canadian Mounted Policeman]

SERVO: Enough! There’s been too much Canada bashing for far too long! I say
no more!
MIKE: Don’t you mean “no more, eh”?

[Mike and Crow laugh]

CROW: Good one, man! They are so stupid!
SERVO: Stop it now! Instead let us offer our northern brothers and sisters
this song of trubute!

[A lively march tune plays]

SERVO[singing]: Oh, I wish I was back in old Canada,
A land which I never shall lampoon!
How I pine for the ice covering Lake Manatoba
And the beauty that is Saskatoon!
MIKE: I got one: [singing]
Oh I wish I was stuck in the hills of Alberta,
Drinking beer with some big dumb guy trapping fur!
And as he scraped and he chisled all the moose dung off his boots,
I would learn that he’s the prime minister!
SERVO: Oh, stop that!
CROW[singing]: Oh, I wish I was in the land that gave us Peter Jennings,
Alanis Morrisette and Mike Myers, too!
SERVO[satisfied]: Ah!
CROW[singing]: Though I take that back, I wouldn’t go there even if you paid
me,
Oh, Canada, you are a place I must eschew!
SERVO: Now this isn’t in the spirit that I intended!
MIKE: Oh, come on, give in! I mean, after all, they gave us Ed the Sock, and
Rush!
CROW: Yeah! What are you defending? They’re such feebes!
SERVO: Okay, I’ll try…
MIKE: Alright, you go ahead!
SERVO[singing, a bit of rage sounding in his voice]:
Oh, I wish I was blowing up Prince Edward Island,
And going on to bomb Ontario!
The DESTRUCTION of Canada, and all of its culture,
Is by far my favoRITE scenario!
MIKE: Okay, that’s a little strong…
SERVO[excited]: No! No, you were right, Mike! This is much more fun!

[The music picks up a little speed]

SERVO[singing very strongly]:
JUST WHERE THE HELL DOES CANADA GET OFF SHARING A BORDER,
WITH COUNTRIES FAR SUPERIOR TO IT????!!!!
CROW: Yikes!
SERVO[coming to a head]:
WHY, YOU LOUSY, STINKIN’, FRANCOPHONIC BACON-LOVING *******S!
YOUR COUNTRY’S JUST A GIANT PIECE OF SHI-!
CROW: Woah! Woah!!!

[Mike restrains Servo]

MIKE: Okay, I think that’s enough! I think we’ve lost it, Cambot, okay
thanks.

[Music stops. Servo breaks down in tears]

MIKE: Okay…
CROW: Wow!
SERVO[crying]: I’m sorry! I have no sense of proportion! I’m a disgrace to
my uniform! [cries]
MIKE[comforting]: No, that’s okay, now calm down, now. Mustn’t hate, mustn’t
hate!
CROW: At least, not so overtly.
MIKE[comforting]: Exactly, must disguise our hate just a little. We’ll be
right back. It’s okay, now, Dudley. Calm down.
SERVO: Pardonnez moi! Pardonnez moi!

That’s the first and last time I go to that chat room.

I was infuriated when I was kicked without warning. A simple, “please don’t use caps” would have been enough. What I typed was a joke response to something DalekTek790 said about, “only typing in caps when talking about insects” (whatever that means). So I said, “FLOWER WEST 500 YARDS”, something a bee might say in a beehive. It was obviously not an abusive or insulting comment. I’ve been using the internet for at least 15 years and I know when and where I should use caps.

I was having a blast chatting with all of you for the first time. But after that incident, I was aprehensive about typing anything for fear of getting kicked by the fascist and hypocritical (don’t use “any annoying irc scripts or color spam”) chatroom moderator. Therefore, whats-her-name can go and take a long walk on a short pier and stick it where the sun don’t shine.

It’s not fascist, and it’s not hypocritical. If you’ve had 15 years of experience on the internet, you know that there are basic rules that you have to abide by in most moderated chat. Running scripts and typing in all caps are two of the most common things that will get you kicked. Rules are rules, the room as a whole was told to not type in call caps, you did, you were kicked. Plain and simple.
I don’t mean any of this personally, fg, so don’t take it as such. I gotta say, though, that the second you and DT typed in caps after the warning, the first thing that popped in my head was “they’re asking for it.”

–Aleck

I did not see any sort of warnings. I beleive you if you say there were, but I did not see any. I did not see it coming, I did not expect it. This is why I was so very, very, very angry. I was angry because I felt I was disciplined without warning. I don’t know how I can state my opinion more simply. Now since I have self-control, I didn’t storm back into the chat room and cause trouble. I returned to find out why I was kicked. But after that, it’s difficult to be sociable with someone who has figuratively smacked me in the face. Sure, maybe most people are used to it, but I am not! I truly did not expect to get this kind of treatment in a Lexx chatroom.

I know the rules already, like I said. I was under the impression that this was a more “private party” chat room and not a “public area” chat. One doesn’t shout in the middle of a department store. But at a private party, usually the atmosphere is open for that sort of nonsense. I was horribly mistaken and made the wrong assumptions about this chat room and I will never return. I do not go to parties and expect to be bounced for talking too loud.

As FX said, it was high-handed. Sparkla did not bother to ask for direct acknowledgement from me. (e.g. “Flamegrape, cut it out or you will be kicked, understand?”) And as I said before, I didn’t see any kind of warning. I wasn’t aware that what I typed caused any sort of problem whatsoever. And I only did it once, fer cryin’ out loud! And what I said was nonsense that clearly had no hateful tone to it at all. Getting kicked came as a complete and total suprise. This has never happened to me before! It was insulting and degrading.

The crew of the Lexx do not have any such high and noble goals. Stan is an idiot who just want’s to get laid. Xev is a loveslave who want’s a man, but not Stan. 790 is an annoying robot head that causes trouble. And Kai is just plain dead and has little or no motivation most of the time, other than to protect Stan and Xev for lack of anything better to do.

quote
There are even similar characters. Both shows have a pale-skinned robotic character lacking emotions.
And that’s where the similarities between Data and Kai end. If anything, Kai is similar to the Borg.

I’ll have to watch it all the way through the first season before I decide it sucks, blows, etc.

I liked Voyager at first because I really liked Seska. Seska provided a dynamic to a starship crew that hadn’t been seen since Dr. McCoy. Then they turned her from a pretty Bajoran into a hideous Kardasean and then killed her off! Arg! I was so mad! It wasn’t until they introduced 6of9 that I started to watch the show again. Why? Because 6of9 re-inserted that conflicting dynamic to the ship’s crew that I liked so much with Seska.

As usual with all of the Trek shows, it will take about two or three seasons (or four, in the case of Voyager) to finally find it’s stride.

DalekTek790, I’m not sure it’s worth it to theorize about the future course of this space opera. It’s very nature chaotic. It’s not like Star Trek where all of the fans expect a great deal of continuity. Or even like Babylon 5 where there is always an epic story afoot.

In Lexx, “sh** happens and then you die”. I don’t expect it to make much sense. I enjoy the lampooning of human nature most of all. And the nude scenes.

To quote the opening theme of Mystery Science Theater 3000:

If you’re wondering how he eats and breaths and other science facts
repeat to yourself, “It’s just a show. I should really just relax!”

Oh, really, DalekTek, you have never posted anything intentionally offensive or insulting? You have got to be kidding, how do you explain then the comment to my question of what Tina meant when she said she had never given herself to a living man..
Your reply was , “She’s a virgin, duh!” The “duh” does’nt imply that I am stupid? You could have simply answered the question and left out the “duh!” but I guess you just can’t help yourself..But don’t tell me you don’t try to be insulting…

What ever happened to “Doi”? As in, “No doi, that’s my point!” Or how ’bout “Dee”, (e.g. “No dee!”)? Or “Der”?

I’ll have to check my dictionotomy:

quote:

Main Entry: duh
Pronunciation: ‘d&, usually with prolonged &
Function: interjection

1 — used to express actual or feigned ignorance or stupidity
2 — used derisively to indicate that something just stated is all too obvious or self-evident

It sounds like the guy on the newsgroup has ADD or ADHD. I bet he started reading a book by or about Carl Jung or Joseph Campbell, got distracted by something after reading half-way through it, and never finished it before getting to the point at the end. Seriously, now. The guy’s writing style is disjointed, aimless rambling, and has no real direction or point. In all honesty and all kidding aside, the guy could use some mental health help.

But the subject of Kai’s reference to archetypes is actually somewhat important to the ongoing story arc of the forth (and maybe even the third) season of the show. Just why are these people from Fire & Water here on Earth? The answer is, “It’s a TV show, stupid! They’re not going to leave you in the dark and never explain important plot points like this! That’s the function of stories, to explain things to you– to describe archetypes.” This chain of thought leads to an endlessly spiraling vortex of archetypes within archetypes and without– oh never mind.

Such a discussion has no point! See what I mean? Is that the kind of thing that “get’s under your skin”, Squishy? I think I understand what you mean by this guy being annoying. And he does this ALL the time with all of his posts? Wow.

Look, here’s the definitions of archetype:

quote:

1 : the original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies : PROTOTYPE
2 : IDEA
3 : an inherited idea or mode of thought in the psychology of C. G. Jung that is derived from the experience of the race and is present in the unconscious of the individual

Fine. Now take the presentation of the story at face value. And what I mean is that Kai was talking in terms of definition #1: a model of all things of the same type. In other words, Earth-Bunny is the model of all the incarnations of Bunny on Fire & Water.

In summary, “Duh! (q.e.d.)”

AudioGalaxy.Com is the new Napster. It is great! I recommend it to everyone who loved and lost Napster.

I did a search for “xenia seeberg” on AudioGalaxy.Com and found nothing.

I did a search for “seeberg” and found “Alpenoberkrainer – Am Seeberg” mp3 file. I’m trying to download it.

I did a search for “xenia” and found 88 listings for songs with german titles by an artist named “Xenia”. I’ll attempt to download as many as I can, because I bet that’s her.

I haven’t had very much trouble with Maxell tapes. They seem to work well with my Hi-Fi VCRs. Scotch is also a good brand, I think.

I use Maxell Hi-Fi Professional T-120 tapes for recording Lexx. I’ll always keep these tapes as “master” tapes.

When I get the time, I transfer the Lexx episodes to digital video, cut out the commercials perfectly, and then use Maxell GX-Silver High Quality T-160 tapes to hold three episodes per tape. Granted, the video quality isn’t that great, but the GX-Silver tapes are relatively cheap.

I retain the original Lexx recordings on the Maxell Hi-Fi Professional T-120 just in case I need to re-master the episodes again. Also, someday I might be able to re-record the episodes where the credits got squashed by the SciFi Channel!

With some other shows I record like Babylon 5 or Voyager, I initially record them on GX-Silver tapes, digitally re-master them, and redub them to another GX-Silver, recycling as I go. I don’t see any point in taping and keep high-quality copies of either of those shows.

Voyager will rerun forever; I might tape over those Voyager re-masters someday or just give them away to a good friend. For me, it’s just kind of a hobby, collecting shows like collecting stamps.

Same goes for Babylon 5, although I wonder if it’s rerun days are numbered. Anyway, I managed to tape most of the series when it first aired on PTEN and TNT. I’m hoping all the episodes will be available on DVD in the future.

Lexx, I’m recording and keeping on high-quality tapes until I can get my hands on every last episode on DVD!

Mystery Science Theater 3000[/I} is a different story altogether. I’m taping every broadcast of MST3K, even if I already have a copy of that episode. In the near future, I plan to re-master and transfer the best-quality recordings to DVD-R. I could go on and on about MST3K taping, but that’s sort of a different issue!

(For example, I have THREE different copies of MST3K episode #816 Prince of Space: one recorded several years ago, one recorded early this year, and one recorded recently. One has the SciFi logo on one side of the screen. Another has it on the other side of the screen. Between those two and various other episodes in my archive, it is theoretically possible to completely remove the stupid SciFi Channel logo. And maybe even remove the dumb rating letters at the beginning of the show! But that experiment will have to wait until I have a DVD-R, which may be soon.)

I envy your job, Aleck. I look forward to the day that I can experiment with DVD menu composition. For now, I’m “storyboarding” them using Flash.

Something bad usually happens when I try to tape Lexx–either the show starts at 2:30 instead of 2, or I tape it with no sound, or hardly any sound (this was all the cable-guy’s fault). I ran out of tape in the last 10 minutes of “Wake the dead” etc.
If anyone knows a method of removing this curse (short of throwing a black chicken over my house) please inform.

Yeah, I’ve had the same sort of things happen to me too. The only think I can suggest is to stay up until 2 a.m., constantly checking the “Preview” channel schedule. (It’s called TV Guide Channel where I am– it’s a channel that constantly lists the TV schedule.) But even then that’s not enough because sometimes the schedule that’s listed is wrong! You’ll have to watch the SciFi Channel until the very end of the show that airs right before Lexx. Then start recording during the credits of that show. That way you’ll always get all of the Lexx episode and not miss any of it’s opening. Even if there are a few commercials after the end of the credits and the beginning of Lexx, you’ll still have enough room on your video tape. (The Maxell Hi-Fi Profession T-120 videotapes that I use can record up to 2 hours and 2 or 3 minutes.) This should prevent you from running out of tape too early.

DO NOT RECORD IN EP(SLP) MODE! DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE COMMERCIALS WHILE YOU RECORD! USE HIGH-QUALITY TAPES!
