Congrats and welcome to the madness. 😉
If you have any question about your new “job” or any of the fancy and overwhelming controls that just appeared out of nowhere, feel free to ask them here.
Or if you’re really bored, you can check through all the previous posts in this forum as a badly organized FAQ.
HeadgehogParticipantI’ve just uploaded the pilot episode

HeadgehogParticipant
It’s also just struck me that none of the ships are armed! (apart from the military stuff) How rare is that? I can’t think of a sci fi program with space ships where all of the shootouts are on a personal level. When you need ship to ship combat, you just hang Jayne out of a window with a big gun. Brilliant!
I think its because the Alliance severely limits the use of ship based weapons. After the little civil war, I would think the control freak Alliance would want to limit any future problems. It’s kinda cool about the hand mounted ship weapon. Almost all of Sci Fi ignores projectile weapons. B5 covered it briefly when the Centauri bombarded Narn with mass driven asteroids. Which in reality would pretty much destroy the planet’s ecosystem, not to mention the infrastructure. Most scifi forgets that knocking a small hole in the hull of ship is enough to depressurize an entire unprepared ship in a short period of time. Cracking glass (not plexi) will get it done faster.
Forget high tech weapons like lasers and photon torpedoes, we’ve been killing each other successfully with primitive weapons for eons, just stick with what works! 😉
Looking forward to the gag reel. :D
I don’t want to sound negative, but it wasn’t that great. It was funny, but it was only a couple minutes long, so there wasn’t much there.
HeadgehogParticipantI did not know that, I rarely listen to the commentaries. I did just watch that scene with the commentar, and Nathan Fillion even points out that its now going to bug the fans. It is rather annoying.
HeadgehogParticipantOkay so consolidating forums wasn’t a very popular idea. How about I just rearrange them to make it a little more convient.
(I still think some forums should be combined or renamed ie B5:LotR into B5 and LEXX cons into scifi cons)Example:

Or what about special member status or rank? I have moderator, you have administrator… Neat to have status dependent on post number for everyone (might encourage people to post more).
We used to have a system like that, I’m not sure what happened to it though. Implementing a system like that will be very easy, or at least I think I know how to configure it.
Headge or whomever: Really should consider putting this topic out to the fine members here since it is for their benefit primarily… I’m sure they’d have much valuable insight, and the fact that ordinary members can participate in the decision-making processes, and opinions are encouraged at the board is what I have always respected most about this place (a very democratic site).
I have no problem with making this a public discussion. But historically these things were discussed in the mod forum. If the other mods agree, we can open this up to the public.HeadgehogParticipant
Gah! Why am I always so blinking late? 😡
I just discover a series called Firefly only to find it’s been bloody axed! How could they?
Well luckily they’re in the process of making a movie: Serenity, based on the TV show.Firefly was one of those shows that the individual episodes weren’t that great, but the series as a whole was. It was greater then the sum of its parts, much like the crew. Ironically my favourite episode was one that never even aired in the States: Trash.
Who is more attractive, Inara or Kaylee? Personally I think Inara is drop dead gorgeous, but Kaylee has a personality that shines which in my book puts her ahead. Where else a you find an engineer who puts pretty flower stencils on the walls? Or there’s Zoe, independent, tough, sexy.
I’d have to go with Kaylee. But that by no means is to say that Inara isn’t attractive.
I hope the movie answers what’s in the Companion’s case
My guess is that he’s a bounty hunter or marshall (government equivalent).I will be completeing the 9 episode reviews for Firefly over the next month. HeadgehogParticipant
Kinda sad to see only a few responses to this so far. I hope this isn’t a reflection of apathy on the topic. And if fans are not compelled to write here, are they gonna send the emails? I would hate to see this show get cancelled. Does anyone think an online petition would get a good response?
TtR fandom isn’t very strong at the moment. The traffic on this bboard has improved over the last few weeks, but that’s not saying very much. And the official bboard at scifi is seeing less posts then us! I’m not sure why there aren’t very many active fans for the show. I know (from site stats) that are a few thousand closet fans, but not many who are contributing. What gets me is how the bboard at Mad Mad House is so busy?!
An online petition might not be a good idea, since there’s such an inactive fan base. The online petition for God Emperor of Dune barely even has 500 sigs, and Dune has a huge fan base!
Other shows had fans send in little trinkets to try to save the show. Farscape: crackers, Roswell: tobacco sauce, Invisible Man: glitter. As a joke, maybe we should send in porno mags and beer for Tripping the Rift.

HeadgehogParticipantI’ve discovered that MTV2 has added Aeon Flux to its weekly block of shows. It shows two episodes back to back every Firday nite at 11:00 PM.
I think most visitors have already discovered this though, since when I showed up Friday at midnite, the site was just as busy as it is after TTR airs!
HeadgehogParticipantNow that MTV2 is airing the episodes on Firday nites (and I can finally see it) I’ll have a go at it.
HeadgehogParticipant
I didn’t say I liked what T’Nuk did.
Oops, sorry I misread your post. I still don’t like T’Nuk very much. But I do agree that it was nice to see the minor full time cast members get a larger role. Now if only Whip and Bob could play a larger role…
HeadgehogParticipantHuh, I could have sworn that I read something a year ago (scifi wire?)that Futurama was going to air new episodes on Cartoon Network in 2005. But I can’t seem to find anything to back that up right now. (No I’m not confusing it with Family Guy). Looking around the net, it seems that announcement wasn’t made afterall. Thanks for the info aquabloodstone.
HeadgehogParticipant
I kinda liked that they used T’nuk more… I kinda like T’nuk in a mean, evil-biotch typa way. I still don’t think Whip did enough though.
I’m going to have to disagree with you there. I thought the T’Nuk plot killed the episode. Overall it didn’t really affect the A-plot, and more importantly it wasn’t funny. Maybe the whole Monica thing would’ve brought a smile to my face a few years ago. But even back then, the only thing I thought was funny over that mess was the way some people were blowing it out of proportion. As a whole, I don’t really care for T’Nuk. I think she’s too much of a stereotype, too clichéd.
I will agree about Whip. I’d love to see more action centered around him. I think we’ll get to see that in “Love Conquers All… err Almost”.
Perhaps the intent was there but they couldn’t come up with anything funny enough.
I think most of the election/politician jokes were just dated. Ten years ago it would have worked better, but not now with the Bush vs. Anyone but Bush polarization thing in America. I think a really funny quip could’ve been if Goodfellow got on right before his anti-chode advert and said “I’m George Goodfellow and I approve of this commercial”. But that’s very recent and word of it may not have even left America. For all I know it could be exclusive to my area (Philadelphia, PA). We have a primary coming up on Tuesday, not that it matters much, since most of the nominations have already been chosen by loser states like Iowa, or in some smoke filled back-room (i.e. they’re only running one candidate). This state really sucks when it comes to elections!
… Maybe I’ll like it more the second time around.
It didn’t get funnier with repeated viewings. But it does flow better without commercials, especially without commercials for the previous week’s episode of Mad Mad House.HeadgehogParticipantI’ll admit I was disappointed by the episode a little. But I kinda set myself up for the disappointment. I got suckered by the typical Sci Fi ads to believe there’d be more spring break jokes. But the largest shortcoming was that I expected some Florida 2000 election jokes. I can’t pass up a good (or even bad) Dubya joke.
It did have its good points though. Mostly Six’s outfit. Oh yeah definatly the outfit! But there was some nice scifi clichés mixed into the episode, like the plasma storm, and Gus drinking. The Osbourne family was a nice touch too. The animation was excellent, especially Six. Ironically though I’m not normally a big Six fan.
Anyone else notice Six’s serial number: 19600199? Any thoughts on what that means?
HeadgehogParticipantNope, your not. I think the new armour looks better then the original. And more to the point, I think their overall appearance and animation is better.
I’ll float the question though. In the computer shorts, we were led to believe that the troopers were organic beings (and hints about Episode 2 said that they were all clones). But in the latest episode, Six hung up a sign outside her tent, saying that “all honry killing machines should line up on the right”. Whether this means that they are all synthetics, or killing machine is used as a metaphor is open to interpretation.
I’m going with that they are organic beings. But since they have different voices, I’m going to say they aren’t clones. This also lends itself that they aren’t robots either since all the Guses had the same voice so by convention all trooper robots would also have the same voice.
But then again, its just a TV show, so I probably shouldn’t put so much thought into it. 🙂
HeadgehogParticipantI’ve also just added the transcript.
HeadgehogParticipant
Headgehog? Your avatar, what is that guy’s name? I can’t remember, he is from Reboot, and he surfs… is his name The Surfer?
Yes the character is from Reboot (someone else remembers that show 😮 ), and the character is Ray Tracer, aka the Surfer.
HeadgehogParticipant
Also, i believe this is the first episode where Six has had sex.
Spoken like a true sadgeezer. You’re right this is the first time we’ve seen Six have sex, or rather it was implied. Of course we have seen her engage in plenty of other illicit activities.
HeadgehogParticipant
And many other can be found throughout the TTR downloads section. Most of the new stuff is in either the 2001 Space Idiocies section or the Six section.
HeadgehogParticipant
But out of curiousity why consolidate? If it’s a drain on bandwidth thats cool, but the actual number of forums really shouldn’t be an issue if they’re catagorized for space.
It sorta looks bad to have 30 forums, 15 of which haven’t seen a post in the last month.
For example Dr. Who is coming back. A year from now people might wonder why we don’t have a forum for it.
I forgot about that. I wrote up this list a month ago, but only got around to posting it today.
But I don’t see the need to eliminate them if they’re just sub catagories anyway that would require someone to click specifically to them.
Categories are arbitrary. All it is, is a block of forums. Our current layout also has categories.
Rather than consolidate, maybe just stick inactive forums in their own catagory called the Ancient Ones? Or Lost in Sci-Fi?
There is a way to disable to the forums. But I don’t know if our current bbs allows us to reenable them.
Thanks Headge! I really like the new layout in the front too where you can see the new visitors and such
That surprised me as much as you! I guess Saddy will have to explain that one.HeadgehogParticipantIt looks much better now!
Also I’ve set up a downloads section for futurama. But its hidden to all but mods/admins. I want to add a few (okay a lot) more pics before I make it public. I didn’t want to start a new thread
HeadgehogParticipant
it’s impossible to get more than 65 users concurrently viewing sadgeezer.com.
Tell that to the 143 guests and 4 members I saw last Thursday nite.
Although I remember seeing more then that at one point. I can’t remember the exact number but it was over 170.
HeadgehogParticipant
hey headge…thanks for the reply!..and an excellent sixed pic of xp by the way!..now,can you do that for the rest of the pic’s in the download section? 🙄 ..if not,can you blow up certain one’s? 🙂 thank’s!
I stole that picture from scifi.com/tripping. But the quality is the same as what I would get from doing a screengrab direct from the tv-in.
It will be a near impossibilty to go back and redo all ~200 screengrabs. Firstly because to get the aformentioned quality, I’d have to have it come in on my tv-card. Since scifi isn’t reruning those episodes yet, I can’t do it. Finally I just don’t have the time to redo everything. Each screengrab takes about 30-60 sec to do, including the time it takes to upload and categorize each picture. I don’t have that kind of time.
I will just be sure to do pics like that in the future.
Bandwidth is a little dodgy at the moment, but hey, if Headge wants to take the time and trouble to scan the pics as good as the one above, then I can surely find the money for some extra bandwidth! Roll on the piccies
I checked it’s not that much more in terms of size. The pics would go from about 10k-15k to 25k-30k. Even less if I do a few tricks. it’s not like I’d be putting up 150k monsters.
Most of the downloads bandwidth goes to the thumbnails for the galleries. The thumbs are roughly equal sized no matter what the source file is, so I believe that the overall affect on bandwidth will be minimal.I could just say that I’d only do high quality stuff for Six realted or more popular images. But that would really be the same as doing the above. The average Six pic has several thousand hits. Whip is in the mid thirties…
HeadgehogParticipantYes and No. I can make the images as large as you want them. But quality is sacrificed. I’m am recording the images through the computer, and I can only get it as clean as my signal. My computer assumes/readies the video for a certain size. If I try to increase it, it starts to get fuzzy.
I’d much rather have a good medium sized picture then a large grainy one. Besides, the screencaps are intended for the guides, where a large picture is an obstruction.
But then again it’s all relative. If you think this is an okay image:
then I can do plenty of those without a problem.I’m not too concerned about bandwidth. A full screen sized picture wouldn’t be too much larger then what I already use.
HeadgehogParticipant
I do wish they had started with the first episode however; 5 minutes in I was wondering whether or not it was the first episode and why if it was it didn’t feel like a first episode.
You can watch the first episode online at scifi.com. But it sort of jumps right into the series, and doesn’t spend much time introducing the characters.
I’m not sure why Space elected to start with Miss Galaxy 5000. Maybe they thought God is Our Pilot too contriversial for a series opener.
The jokes fell a little flat for me. I thought they were a little too obvious, lacked subtlety,
It gets better in other episodes, especially God is Our Pilot and the recent Totally Recalled.
but if you want restraint then you’re probably better off hanging with the S&M bondage crowd… Oh hang on, you’re here so you already are! Oh how them S&Mers love a good hanging.
😆
Speak for yourself. Personally I’m more into the B&D, and Ds. Those S&M’ers are too hardcore for me 😉
HeadgehogParticipantHeres my review for Totally Recalled. I don’t think I really did the episode justice though.

HeadgehogParticipant
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Baltar leader of the cylons in the original BG series? (He’s a semi-evil programmer in the new BG)
I’m not sure if he was the leader, but he was a leader.
For purposes of autolinks on this site, I’m going to spell the TtR character’s name Balltar, rather then Baltar. Besides the extra “L” gives it a sexual pun. It’s hard enough that the two new shows both share a sexy cyborg named Six. And most fans think Six (of One) is a parody of (Model #) Six (of 12). Which is a neat trick since TtR is 4 years older the BSG ’03
HeadgehogParticipantIf its a friday or late thrusday nite and there’s lots of unregistered visitors, probably all but 10 are here for Tripping.
HeadgehogParticipantWe all saw this review coming:

He’s a Capatin and Coke sorta guy.
HeadgehogParticipantJust as an interesting aside, the site received as many views sometime on April 4th (for the month to date), then the site did for all of last April.
HeadgehogParticipantI just thought I’d kick this thread back to the top and revive it.
Has anyone else heard of any other fan sites related to the series. The only one I’ve found are TV Tome, (and IMDB, if you count that as a fan site). Someone else has to have at least started brainstoming a fan site by now…
HeadgehogParticipantThe transcript for the epsiode.
After watching the episode again (for the transcipt), I think I may have been a bit too harsh on it. I still don’t think it was very good, but it wasn’t utter crap.
HeadgehogParticipantYes its still a go. The only problem is that I’m stretched kind of thin a the moment. Most of my efforts with the site are being focused on TtR. Unfortunatly I’m entering crunch time at school, and that it’s taking up most of the time I’d normally be spending on the site. I’ll send out an email to all people interested later today. Hopefully I can get someone interested in supervising/managing the development of the guide.
HeadgehogParticipantApparently I did archive the paragraphs. I can’t remember the exact words so the above shouldn’t be taken too literally.
(Headge, do you remember any of this? It was Chris’s site wasn’t it?)
The message you’re referring to was the last update by the duo on trippingtherift.com before the website was taken over by whomever.
It was an emotional response, which occasionally contradicted itself. Unfortunately, I did not save the message, or any other text (and most pictures on the site) as I figured that the site would always be up. I never thought that we’d become the repository for all things tripping. Had I known, I would have downloaded the entire site.
The last message went something to effect of this: (In quotes are exact words)
Chris Moeller and Chuck Austin were “deemed expendable” and cut from the project. They didn’t go into detail, and they didn’t answer any emails about it (to my knowledge). They were clearly upset by this development, which is completely understandable. The two, went on to thank the fans of the short for all their support an patience over the years. He claimed that he was crying in happiness and pride when he saw the creativity of one of the fans, who created a Chode squeeze toy.
It was brought up about TTR2, and that it was never that great, and that it was crapped up when too many people contributed ” too many cooks” This contradicted earlier comments that the seconds cartoon was great, hilarious etc. I’m not sure but I think they said that we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the second cartoon.
To conclude, they mentioned that it was sort of a relief that they no longer have to worry about the show and that “a great load has been lifted off [their] shoulders” I didn’t buy that part though. I really thought that if they were asked back on the show they would have accepted. I think that they may have mentioned that now that TTR is over they could concentrate on their other projects like King of the Hill.
HeadgehogParticipantI’ll take resposibility for that one Logan. Usually when I see pending “Choices”, they come in groups. I look for the user who submitted them (almost always fluffy bunny), and if the person is reliable, I just post it “as is” without reading it. I automatically go to amazon.co.uk and find the graphic links and post it into the article.
In the future I’ll be more careful.
HeadgehogParticipantI’m not sure, once I started typing it up, I had no problem.
The episode flowed extraordinarily well. Which is really odd for a 30 min show. So when I was first brainstorming I thought that the review may only be a couple hundred words long. Additionally I didn’t think of anything to write as I was watching the show initially or upon further viewings. I generally know what scenes I want to write, comment or joke about when I’m first watching the show.
