Still, I won’t be buying my ticket until very close to the convention date. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, not being American I know very little of what is going on in Louisana or Texas and can’t comment. I do think I understand what you mean about herd thinking. I’ve been very disappointed during my own lifetime to see that the younger people coming up after me seem to be more conservative in outlook and less likely to question societal norms and mass-thinking than the generation ahead of me. I would have thought that society would become more free-thinking with time. Instead, it seems free-thinkers have become more rare. Thodin in the arena comes to mind – shouting “Rise up! You are all slaves!” to thousands of people who were incapable of thinking outside of His Shadow’s world.

I don’t know about Lexx addressing different realities. One has to be careful not to overthink Lexx. What wisdom there is in it, I suspect, was unintentional. To my point of view, Lexx was a wonderful frolic by a bunch of partying, maritime Beans (salty Beans, arrrgh). Although they flaunted some conventions they stuck rigorously to others. But for making a program in which disappointment featured rather largely, and failure and ineptitude could be counted on, I will always be grateful to them. The characters of Lexx rarely got what they wanted, but they always picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and continued on for no other grand purpose than because they had no choice. I would like to know what you mean about the different realities though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

No doubt you are right. If I recall correctly, when I first watched Lexx I found the move away from the formulaic really freeing. I was thrilled to see a program that allowed human beings in space to be fully human, and that didn’t try to whitewash our basic drives and needs. I guess the kind of acceptance Lexx had for feelings of inadequacy, loss, all kinds of sexuality and different ways of being alive in the universe kinda freed up something in me too when I watched it. Was it this way for you?

Great poem, sweetie! It’s funny though, Lexx did inspire a lot of creativity in me too. I owe my pottery and my initial forays into the world of lotions and potions to the Lexx. Why do you suppose it is that it inspired so much creativity in the community that followed it? It is an interesting phenomenon. ๐Ÿ˜€

I find myself in an odd position. If I were a religious person, I might say that Lexx is my church. Not that I worship His Shadow or anything, but it’s where I go to check out all the baked goods, share gossip on the latest planetary plagues and and flirt in very chaste way. It’s all very surreal how this show has affected my little world.

I LOVE that creature. I think it is called a horta. Nursie does a very good impression of it. I have a friend who is as odd as I am. We call a really big pimple a horta and do the “No kill I” impression whenever we see one. It draws strange looks in a social setting but we enjoy ourselves. I appreciate your response Mr. Sadgeezer. This is your site and you get to call the shots. No doubt your mods are hard-workers, close friends and you respect them and their decisions. However, Maya’s “recent” banning (recent in quotations because I am aware of all the rationales, crossed wires and explanations) was very badly handled. Although the mod’s were allegedly only enforcing past policy on a single poster they actually have hurt the whole community.

Maya is very important to the Lexxian community on all its various sites. She has been nothing but kind and giving of her time and resources. When I was a noob, she treated me with respect and openness and made me feel very welcome in the community. She is a high priestess for many of us. ๐Ÿ˜€

Watching events unfold from the sidelines, I can only say that the banning has hurt many of us. Not just Maya. No one contacted Maya or made any explanations. We all react differently. Can you blame some of us for going ballistic? It has just been very disturbing to watch and upsetting for a lot of us.

Perhaps I am beating a dead horse, but I would like to petition you for Maya’s reinstatement. Whether she actually comes back or not is another matter entirely and shouldn’t play a role in the principle of the decision. I for one, would be grateful to see her reinstated if for no other reason than as an olive branch to our community and balm for our wounds at seeing one of our own treated so badly. I am a post APEC fan and singularly uninterested in past battles. Please help us move past all this past silliness and get on with being a happy community of lovin’ Lexxians.

I once thought Red Dwarf was wildly funny. Worth checking out – it might just be that I’m losing my sense of humour. I am definitely going to catch the season finale of Alienated on June 15 and see what that show is all about.

Other shows that are not sci-fi but worth watching are Showcase’s Trailer Park Boys. Canadian and funny as hell. I think it airs on Showcase Sunday evenings. You can experience the trials and tribulations of making a living growing dope in a trailer park. They did an episode last season with the lead characters Ricky and Julian, defending themselves in criminal court ,without a lawyer, on charges of stealing gasoline. It was beyond brilliant and actually plausible in a totally f**cked up Canadian way.

And starting mid-June, season 3 of 6 Feet Under is airing. Seasons 1 and 2 were very interesting. Quite a different show. ๐Ÿ˜€ Very dark humour. My VCR is looking forward to it.

Logan’s response has actually made me consider the question of Lexxian-specific boredom seriously, for the first time. Our various responses and coping mechanisms for boredom are probably all different. But I do think we share some traits in common as a specific community.

All indications to the contrary, I think Lexxians tend to be a mature, surprisingly intelligent and creative bunch. There are of course exceptions ๐Ÿ˜‰ nudge nudge wink wink ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ™„ . But for the most part the group seems to include a surprising number of people who have lived interesting or challenging lives. And that does not mean being a rocket scientist. Sometimes just trying to live on an authentic level without totally shutting down in mainstream society is an incredible challenge. If you can keep it real these days I figure you are some kind of super-hero.

Most Lexxians seem to be open-minded, tolerant and unique. In spite of reports to the contrary, there are loads of people out there who are not unique. The “everybody is unique” saying is just a pacifier to keep the mindless happy in their obedience. Same with “everybody is equal”. Giggle. So when you run into someone who is willing to be different, you know you are dealing with someone who has a fair amount of courage and inner strength, even if they don’t know it. And you thank whatever gods you to pray to for them because they are the type of people who save the species from being totally mundane and insane.

Woa. Getting heavy. The last week has been a pain in the ass because I have been ill and unable to do much. Normally I would have been assuaging my boredom by massaging the bored. Sad’s has been a treasure. I have also been hanging a bit at #lexx chat. Maya’s Trading Post has been a lot of fun and a couple of days ago I made my way to live journal and started a blog. I am amazed how Lexxians seem to be sprinkled everywhere and yet all connected like some giant web. Talk to one you have never met before and chances are they either know you or you know someone in common. Cool.

I had thought from Logan’s comments that even though
Donovan owned the site, AA was the controlling entity. Agency relationship? I don’t know. It makes little sense to me either. I thought the admin’s would have been in touch somehow with the powers that be.

So. Anybody know where we can find Paul?

Edit: Aha! sorry Dee, for some reason I missed page 10 when I posted my reply. You are awesome Dude! You e-mailed PD you say? Well, all I have to say is knowing you have done so much makes sitting on my thumb just that much more enjoyable. Thanks.

Gah! Hockey! ROM is fun (Royal Ontario Museum) and all the tourists have to get their butts dragged up the CN Tower – looks like Seattle’s Space Needle only taller. Great view – especially at night – if you can handle heights.

If you can catch a play at the Royal Alexander Threatre do it! And have dinner at Ed’s Warehouse before-hand – I think it is next door – or close by at any rate. Fantastic roast beef as I recall. Both are historic treats. I hope they are still old-fashioned swank.

People back east think T.O.’s Chinatown is pretty cool. (Ours is like, waaaaaay better). But since it has been ages since I was back there I am not really a very good resource. iStan might be more helpful since he knows Toronto well.

Hope you have a wonderful trip. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ugh! Like a knife through the heart to see that cached page. Why?. why?, why?, why?, why?, why?, why?, why?, why?, why? Right now I would almost trade my inner drama queen to have the site back.

*Karuba shows up at Gubby’s with an armload of warrior disco skirts and loaded with bling. Looking nervously over shoulder.*

Hi ILyekka, looks like my planet got blowed up real good by some crazy Klingon/Picard hybrid. Do you have room for me? I’ll share the skirts and the bling for a few hits on the bong and a bronc ride on the narcolounger. Whadday say? Pretty please?
