Too many times this has happened, American audiences and the studios are so fickle, don’t get me wrong I love the U.S and it’s people, but it’s times like this that I curse it.
Truth be told, even our beloved Lexx might have gone on or even the much anticipated spin-off might have succeeded, but again no one cares about what the rest of the globe thinks, it’s failed in America, so the rest of us suffer.
Ok, you can’t tell people what to watch in America, and I guess that there is so much on offer that you can’t always succeed, but
the studios get an awful lot of money from other countries for these programmes, but that doesn’t mean jack, it’s the American audience they are out to please…so I guess it means sod the rest of us.

No offemse, but its a simple game of numbers. Studio’s produce shows to sell them to the market(networks). Networks buy the show so that they can sell advertising to assorted bussinesses. Bussineses want their ads to go out to as many people as possible.
The US has ~265 million poeple, the UK, 60 million, Australia 20 million, Canada 29 million. If you want to sell a show to certain market, which one would you choose. Canada, UK, Australia together would only make up roughly a third of the US audiance.

Many of these shows are made with America money for American audiances. When these programs are sold to different markets, they typically don’t make nearly as much money because of the countries’ cultural differences. Al beit not much differnces, but there are differences. For instance if you come to America and ask where the lift is, peopel will look at you funny. Like wise if I go over there and ask for the elevator, I’ll get the same dumb look.

The smaller markets in England are also the reason why many shows only get to run a half dozen episodes, before thjay are offically purchased for a full season. Lets just say it costa million to produce and hour of a show. Over here we can afford to but 12 eps becasue if it only gets 1.0 thats still roughly 1 million viewers. That’s a million potential customers for the advertisers.
For you guys a 1.0 may only be 2-300,000. So the show reaches less poeple and therefore advertisers pay less for the show. The network may only net 10% off the show over there, where as here it may net 30%.

When I first saw Brigadoom, I wanted to reach thtough the TV, grab Stan by the throat
and tell him to shut the …. up and stop complaining. This was good acting on Brian’s part, because Stan was supposed to act like that. And I’m sure the direction there was also good.
Anakin however was supposed to act a bit more mature, and only appear to be heading to the dark side. Now I’m not sure if its bad acting, bad directing or both that made Anakin come off that way, but it only would have come out right if he were still 8 years old, and had not gone through all the jedi training.

Jar Jar was nearly as annoying this time around. I thought he was very restrained, and didn’t come off too bad. He only had what, 3 lines in the entire movie

Hayden Christensen, not for one moment, convinced me that he has one iota of acting talent in his entire being. There’s a certain scene in the film in which you sense the first steps into the Dark Side of his character. He is supposed to be filled with anger, grief and blind fury.

Ha, ha, ha, YES! Someone finally agrees with me, and doesn’t follow blindly into the perception of, its Star Wars fo ofcourse it was good! Hayden Christensen did the worst acting I’ve ever seen, from a non-child performer. Not once was I convinced of anything he said.
I would have to disagree with you on one point Aleck:

quote
Instead, he comes across like a 16-year-old kid who has just been told that he can’t use the car Saturday night.
Now I’m 19 and when my car (see Adam Sandler’s Ode to my Car for more details) is in the shop, or I’m going on a long trip and I want something a little more reliable and I’m told I can’t take a real working car, I act way more emotionally then that. I’d say his reaction was closer to that of someone beign told to not to something they don’t want to do anyway, but put on a fake show for appearances sake.

I agree with everythign else except:

quote
It’s a bad movie. It’s a really bad movie.
I wouldn’t say its very bad, just not that good. I was entertained by it. But it didn’t give me the same feelings that iv-vi gave me. I didn’t mind paying the 4.50 (gotta love student tickets) to see it. I feel that if this weren’t a Star Wars film not nearly as many people would have gone to see it.

Finally they could have done almost every seen with a Yoda muppet. Well except for that last one obviously. In a few years the cgi will look fake and we’ll see right through the computer image. Muppets look more real, both at the tiem and in the long run.

A few otehr poepel and I went over there to set the record straight, i.e. LEXX didn’t get the chronicle canceld etc. What we did was peaceful. But hn195 decided to take things into his own hands and really troll that board. HE made variations of several major posters names (but only those who trashed lexx) like pigggirl instead on piggril, einthedatdog instead of einthedatadog and a few others. Everyone knew taht is was a troll, but after the first look it appears as if the intended person made the comments. All the victim had to do was reply to the posts, ot create a new thread saying that they didn’t post that and to look at the minor difference in teh nicks.

If soemone stole your nick, and your password was not changed. Change your password, problem solved. Teh phantom poster can’t use your nick anymore unless they rehack it.

Wasn’t mayoxing banned a while ago? But as I’ve mentioned before, soemone with a banned ip can just goto a library or move their laptop somewhere else, to post to a different ip. Unfortunatly , computers arent; smart enough to know just to blanket ban certain users. So these posts should be deleted immediatly, that is if the goal is to avoid a baord war. I can see no intelligent/scifi discussion coming from this.

For the record I have no idea what the hell all this is about, nor am I taking sides. But I do know that this is causing grief (and not for an intelligent reason, or at least intelligent from my perspective) and I don’t like that.

Mark, and others,
Identity6 and I have decided that there will be doing a craft fair this year. But unlike last year it won’t be a solitary event. Since we haven’t gotten a big enough repsonse to warrant renting out a room, what we will probably do is have the craft fair as a sort of attachment to the friday morning kick-off.

Thank-you all for your concerns. It’s really not a huge deal, but for assorted reasons its better that I be closer to home. Things are already starting to smooth out, I already don’t miss New Mexico, that pathetic excuse for a state.

Is the new site that close to being done? Wow, I expected it to take longer. Might I add another suggestion? I would like to see a calender, soemthing where people can post important news and stuff, like Star Wars Ep2 in UK in theathers today, or TTR starts this day in America, that sort of thing. Maybe the calender could alo display the next few days events, right above the newswire blurbs.

I’d love to moderate the new TTR forum.

One last thing abotu the lexx guides. Don’t forget to update the character profiles, earth profile, etc. Then it can all truelly be done with.

One on, one off.
I’m going to be out of commision for about a week now. Due to some family problems, the decision was made for me to not go back to New Mexico in the fall, so I’ll be staying in Philly for a while. I will however continue college in Philadelphia.
I just had to ship everything home today, whilst donating most of my stuff to charity down here. It’ll be a week before my stuff arrives, and plus there is the whole mess of why I need to remain closer to home.
But as I told the uncon committee last night in an email, I am still committed to uncon , and sadgeezer.com as well. After all it does say committed sadgeezer under Headgehog <—

and finite, but its “clsoed” or self contained, such that if you moved in a straight line in any direction you will eventually end up back where you started. (Thats teh really simplified version, but there other parts to it that suggests that whilein theory you could get back to your origin, but otehr factors, like the expansion of spacetime or a an infinite universe (from our standpoint) would make that journey uncompleteable.
Our galaxy is very nearly mapped out. Or at least that is what all the astronomy prof down here keep telling me. Years ago one problem with mapping out he galaxy is that the galactic cores brightness, keeps the light from the stars on the other side of the galaxy from reaching us. A prof down here solved that by proposing to look for the radio signals from these stars. And sicne the galactic cores radio signals can be filtered out from that of the stars, (the hubble shift isn’t so extreme for the core) this results in getting a star map of the other side of the galaxy. This has been goign on at two radiotelescopes, one in Norway(?) or maybe Sweden or Finland (those countires all seemt he same to me) and anotehr telescope somewhere in the southern hemisphere. (I can’t remembr the country)

While I agree that he’s a putz, and its enviable that he’ll be banned, now isn’t the most strategic time to do so. You told him that you set him up! So I recommend that we eat this incident, and wait paitently for him to make a mistake. That means that we not provoke him. He’ll screw up eventually, and soon.

Click “submit news”
The rest is pretty obvious, put the url of the page you want people inteh url box. Put the title in the title box, and blurb in the news text box. DONT FORGET TO CHANGE the category from “default” to whatever category you want it in. Hint: Don’t put news about HHGTTG in the LEXX category , it goes in the B5 category of course Oh and the test category doesn’t place news anywhere else either.
Keep the title down to a few words, and the blurb about a sentence or two.
When your done press submit. Goto a pgeof the corresponding category to make sure it posted.
If there is soemthign wrong with your article and you want to chage it. Go back to http://www.sadgeezer.com/cgi-bin/news/newspro.cgi and choose modify news. Find the article you want modified and change it.

Ditto on what Flame said. Both Stan and Xev aren’t that educated and will likely keep calling her ‘lil Lexx.

Nymph is a good name. No offense, but not for the reasons you gave it. Nymph a nythological being of sheer beauty. Beauy so great it could blind or even kill a man!
But by todays slang, nymph or nympho, someone who like to have sex all the time. Sounds like Stan and Xev to me.

Here’s a thought:
Aeryn is pregnant. But Moya John and Aeryn hasn’t had sex since Tayln retruned. So the father is Tayln John,or the dead one. I’m sure that this will come up at some point. Especially since most of the character growth this season has been centered on their damn relationship.

Last year I was only 18, and I knew NO ONE. I never posted to any boards, or joined any gorups before coming to uncon. But, I made friends very fast. From my experince, all lexxians are great friendly people. When your there just walk up to someone and say hi, and start talking. Or better yet walk up to many someones. My first day at uncon I must’ve talked with 30 different people for a long time.
It doesn’t need encouragement, but get in the spirit fast. The faster you do, the more fun you’ll have. But you get inthe spirut very fast.
The entire experince is like a RHPS showing, people don’t descriminate based on petty things, it very easy to get along with everyone.

Last year, I debated it until the last minute whetehr to go or not. I was still haveing doubts when I got there, but soon after it started all those doubts went away. The only thing I regret about uncon was ever thinking of not going! Last year, I was no one in the fan community, this year I’m organizing Uncon! You really will have the timeof your life. It stands still only to the observer moving that fast, but time still moves at the 1 sec=1 sec for a causual onlooker. When the object stops moving at light speed it would appear to them as if they hadn’t aged and that they travel foward in time instanteously.

quote
The speed of light is never constant however.
It changes based only on the medium it’s moving through. The denser the medium, the slower it moves. This is becasue the photons are captured/absorbed by the matter in the medium, then emmited (albeit lower energy) from that same matter moments later. Becasue of this, matter can move faster then light in certain mediums(not all mass can be as easily abosorbed, as a matter of fact neutrons get absorbed less the faster they move). This is evident by the Cherenkov(sp?) Radiation. Or the blue glow we see in US reactors and cobalt cells. Conversely its a purple glow in Canada, and yellow-green in UK and many European reactors. The color is dictated by the medium the neutrons or matter is moving through.

quote
Light has mass,
This is debateable, but the general conception is that it is massless.

quote
and is affected by gravity therefore can never truly hit L since there is never a true vaccum unaffected by gravity wells.
Light travels in a straight line at the speed for its medium. However in gravity wells, a straight line isn’t always straight. Imagine taking a bed sheet, draw a straight line accross it. Now hold all four corners of the bed sheet taunght above the ground. Place a bowling ball in the center, the bedsheet will bend in on the ball and, the straight line will curve in toward the bowling ball as well. This is the effect gravity/mass has on light.
In the case of black-holes, light it still moving at light speed, but he curviture of space, and the speed at which space itself moves (a duo-effect), is greater then the speed at which light can move.

Further more if it were possible to travel back in time, this technology should never be used! Perhaps not even shortly back in time(a la Seven Days). The chaos theory (butterfly effect) shows that even a small change can have huge changes down the line.
***
From personal expereince, I have two freinds whom I met 2 years ago. The path to meet them was not easy. A lot of bad things had to have happened to me in order for me to have gone out that night, and by luck have met them. While I wish that many of those bad things never happened to me, I know that if they didn’t, I would have never met thse two people. In the long run, I’m happy that the discomfort I was put through for a while wound up turning out so well. G-d works in mysterious ways.
***
How does this affect limited time travel in the sense of 7 days. Imagine the 9/11 attacks. Sure we all want those events to have never happened. But it was those events that cuased us to bomb Afganistan foward to the bronze age. This “War on Terror” (even thoughit only affects American Terrorm not that of other countries per se) has hampered al-queida. If we hadn’t taken them out now, then perhaps in a few years they would have gotten their hands on a nuke, and utterly destroyed a major city, killing millions or hundreds of thousands, instead of several thousand as was the case on the 11th. One could argue that the adminstartion could have just bombed the hell out of Afghanistan, without an attack. But we all know that, no president would act without provocation like that. The american public, and international governmetns wouldn’t support such a war.
In conclusion, we should not time travel for any reason, the consequences are to unpredictable to comprehend.

Scifi’s ratings in general have gone way down. From what little inside information I’ve heard, was that TNN’s ST:TNG is grabbing scifi’s nightly viewers. I haven’t heard much else beyond that.
Scifi is changing its lineup radically for the fall. Instead of showing bogus b-grade scifi “films” every night, they will have a blitzgrieg of original programming. Scifi fares better when showing new stuff or old proven shows, like B5 or Star Trek.

A new episode of Farscape has NEVER gotten below a 1.0. The episode shown this period was a rerun. It should be interesting to see how the new farscape episode will fare next week.
If it is below a 1.0 next week, I would have to blame the hiatus. Its been months since the last Farscape episode was aired in America. But Farscape’s s3 ended back in January(?) in England. I remember downlaoding the last four episodes back in February. Since I’ve already seen them, I don’t watch the first showing, and harldy pay attention for the second showing.

Even if the ending weren’t that great, do you really think scifi would say that the ending was bad? Of course not! they want to sell the show to the audiance, so they will always say how good a show is, no matter what.

I was watching Fire and Water last night, and guess what I saw? The harpoon that Prince’s gondola used to attach itself to the lexx, was the spear that Xev used to go after Stan.

Hey we’re not vampires! But being an isomniac can sometimes be as bad as its described in Fight Club

The 2am slot does suck, and is really an insult to the show. But since I’m on MST at school, LEXX is shown at midnight. Midnight is a good time, or 11pm. I found reruns of s2 while channel surfing, and killing time while waiting fo my laundry to get done. If it weren’t for some of those s2 reruns, I may not have taken to LEXX as fast. But this is all at midnight, I doubt I would have found it at 2am.

I think M-Th at midnight would be a good time slot for reruns. Lets face it, we won’t ever see it before 10pm.

Trin is the naem DT gave to the Lyekka civilization a few weeks ago. In “End of the Universe” Lyekka says “there aren’t many dreams around”. But since Louise Wischermann gives Lyekka an accent so impossible to understand, that it makes the French look like English Profs; he misunderstood the statement as “there aren’t many trins around” Where he thought trin refered to the Lyekka species. But sine Trin is easier to type, say and spell then Lyekka, many people (myself included) have just adopted that name.

Grrrr.

When the site first came out, they were going to update the episode guide after each episode aired the first tiem it ran on scifi. They did this for the first two days, then they stopped. Why I don’t know. Maybe they thought the site wasn’t getting enough hits to make it worthwhile, or maybe the reviews are there, but the time delay is messed up. scifi.com does this wit all their primes shows; lexx, farscape, first wave etc.

Yes the uk.scifi.com site does indeed suck. Not only is the design and ease of use terrible, but the site covers very little of the shows it airs. All of the lexx pages are gone, as well most other shows they air. The only have a few pages for a few of tehir shows.

Stan:The dark zone is the universe of evil, and depravity and chaos” This is a western belief that darkness/black is associated with evil and chaos. (Ironically its the opposite in east asia) The darkest part of the dark zone would mean the most chaotic part of the chaotic universe. If the laws of science apply the same to both universes, then the most chaotic part of the dark zone would be the center, as it is in the light zone.
So if anything the “greater uncertainty principle” only supports my theory.

I know that it was meant as a joke, because of the smilies, but finals are approaching and I need to vent.
I like thebrothers explanation the most. “It’s in the script”. Unlike B5, Star Wars and Star Trek, Lexx doesn’t take itself seriously. (Well neither does the Star Trek, but it tries) Conjucture is fun, but in the end, its only a show.

Season 1
In IWHS the computer monitor tells us that “the light zone and the dark zone coexist in the same space, at the same time” just a reminder for those who say the two universes don’t exist at the same time, and that “only a thin deminsional barrier seperates the light zone from the choas of the dark zone.”
Season 2
In “End of the Universe” Kai tells Stan to tell Lexx to go to the center of the universe. So that all the mantrid drones scattered aroudn the universe would congregate on that point. He does, lets assume the Lexx got very close to the center.
Season 3
It takes ~4333 years for the lexx to go from an “empty space” to orbit two planets. Using the Universal Gravitation Law, and Newtons Laws, 4333 years would put lexx very close to the edge of the milky way. Earth is on the very edge of the milky way.for purposes of relativity and time distortions, the lexx would not be moving fast (off by a few orders of magnitude!) enough for time to appear to have moved even remotely faster then its own time frame
Season 4
In LBP Kai informs us that Earth is at the darkest part of the dark zone. This could be construed as near the center of the dark zone.
How do these facts fit together? From season 1, if an object leaves the dark zone at coordinates x,y,z,t, it will enter the light zone at the same coordinates in the light zone. So if lexx was near the center of the light zone at the end of s2 when it left the light zone, then it would have appeard near the center of dark zone. It did, but in the middle of nowhere in s3. From s4 we can infer that Earth is near, or at the center of the dark zone.
Facts from the first season season pass on to the second and third and the last season. Its a built atop one another, and it doesn’t become clear until the end. Sounds like one example of the series going full circle to me.

Well Vlad and the Mega Sahdow made it to the dark zone, so his shadows light did eventaully reach that place. But if you were told that a vest should protect you from being shot/wounded, and you were about to go into battle with no other options, you’d wear the vest wouldn’t you?
The heretics belived that HDS shouldn’t be able reach the dark zone, but if he did, they felt they should hide it in the darkest part. The last place he’d want to go.
