OK, call me an idiot (but please don’t that would be tempting fate ๐Ÿ˜† ), I’m back with advise.

Dudelove, when somebody insults you (or you think they’ve insulted you), you don’t have to blow up and go straight into name calling.

    Something like….

‘I think your comment was unkind and uncalled for’ usually works extremely well and can often generate an apology.

‘Well that’s your opinion, personally I don’t agree’ also works well.

You also need to bear in mind that often people aren’t actually insulting you, they may just be pulling your leg for a bit of fun.

The fact is that whether you think this site is sugar coated or not, it’s Sad’s site and he makes the rules. It’s a bit like being in somebody’s home. If the homeowner asks you not to smoke, you don’t smoke. If he asks you not to call other house guests names, you don’t call them names.

You’ve been doing some good posts lately, I’d hate to see you blow it.

Hey, some good points there which I hadn’t picked up on. Mind you, the struggle between good and bad is a theme that runs through many books (especially children’s books since adults do so love to serve morality plays up to them).

There’s a similar theme in the ‘Dark is Rising’ books by Susan Cooper, I don’t know if you’ve read them (Yes, more kids books, I know, but very good none the less). In these, the two sides are actually referred to as ‘The Dark’ and ‘The Light’. The main character is a boy who on his twelth birthday comes into his power as an ‘Old one’ and joins the battle. Also very similar to Star Wars except that the book predated Star Wars by 4 years.

I have to admit that when I read the Harry Potter books, Roald Dahl was the first author I thought of when it came to drawing a similarity. Very funny, but very hard hitting stories when you consider that they are aimed at children.

So to sum up, yes, you’ve made some very good points, but I personally would only go so far as to say there are similarities. I wouldn’t actually call them ‘rip offs’ of either Star Wars or Roald Dahl. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve read the first 4 Harry Potter books and I have to say I was extremely impressed. As often happens, children’s books can work on a number of levels, so there is something there for the adults as well as the children.

What impressed me most was the depth of the plots and the way Rowling could keep her audience trying to guess who the ‘bad guy’ was right up to the very end. I never managed to guess the correct ‘bad guy’, yet when she revealed him, I ended up smacking my forehead and saying ‘of course, all the clues were there.’ I think that makes for pretty impressive writing.

I was also impressed at how hard hitting the books could be. I didn’t for one moment expect that a school boy would be killed in a children’s book. Her description of the Dementors in the Prisoner of Azkaban was also very frightening, even for an adult.

The only criticism I have is of the ridiculous hype that has grown around the books. OK, they’re good and I think they’re very good, but they’re still just books.

I was in the supermarket the other day and they announced over the tannoy that the new Harry Potter book would be available at midnight. Well I like the books, but I’m not going to disrupt my beauty sleep to acquire one.

    Dudelove76 wrote:

I have read 3 of the Harry Potter books and there all rip off’s of Star Wars

Well that’s an interesting theory. I can’t see it myself. Perhaps you would explain so I can see where you’re coming from.

It was The Twilight Zone – A Matter of Minutes.

All stuff below nicked from this page. http://tvtome.com/TwilightZone_1985/guide.html

gs: Adam Arkin (Michael Wright) Karen Austin (Maureen Wright) Adolph Caesar (Supervisor)

A young married couple wake up and discover that their home is being remodeled by faceless blue-clad workers who are workers in time that build and move objects from one time period to another. They build each second, one second at a time. The foreman cannot let them return to real-time with their knowledge, but the couple manage to escape them for the hour required for the next second to catch up to them.

NOTE: This episode is based on the short story “Yesterday Was Monday”, by Theodore Sturgeon. The story was first published in Unknown (June, 1941).

zev.. well honestly.. she was just a bit too much of a ยฃ&$* ๐Ÿ‘ฟ for me.. no offence.. eva haberman did a great job.. but the part was just.. to mean.

I don’t think it’s really fair to say that she was to much of a (b*tch?), had Eva stayed with the part, I’m sure that her Zev would have softened and become friends with Stan in the same way that Xev did.

Hey TrimKlip. I think you do get to see Xev’s panties. I’m sure I saw then in either K town or tunnels or somewhere. But you’re right, they’re not white cotton ones, they’re a sort beige and not in the same league. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    isola wrote:

why did they change actress anyway? was eva habermann tired of it all? would be fun to know..

Eva Haberman had other work commitments but agreed to do a few season 2 episodes to let them work out a handover. (And I’ve never seen such a successful switch of actors in a leading character before)

I think that by series 3, Xev’s attitude to Kai had changed. I felt she’d given up on him and it appears that at times she resented him for it. Like in Boomtown when she tells Bunny that the dead don’t… (whatever it was she said) and gives him a bit of a filthy look. But who’s to say that Eva’s Zev wouldn’t also have got a bit petulant by that stage.

I find it very hard to choose. I think from a looks point of view it has to be Zev. I found her very natural and innocent looking. I find Xenia’s lips a little bit too over the top.

I always thought that the prisoner was an unofficial spin off from Danger Man, making him John Drake.

I think there was some legal problem where they weren’t allowed to take the name, so they gave everybody numbers so it couldbe assumed but not stated.

There was an episode in Danger Man where he gets into a village in Russia which is just like an English village where they train spies.

It never crossed my mind that he was gay. I thought he was more a man with a mission and wasn’t going to get distracted by silly little things like SEX when he had more important things on his mind (Unlike James Bond).

I think the problem in the village was that everybody could be an enemy agent, so he wouldn’t want to get too smoochy with anybody.
The powers that be there must have thought he was heterosexual because they kept throwing lovely ladies at him.

There was that foreign housekeeper type bird who turned out to be number 2

And that Russian swimming woman he rescued

Wasn’t there something with that female doctor who had him dreaming about a party where he was meeting up with some agent.

    I remember the fiance.

(sorry I’m a bit vague, haven’t see it for a while)

Anyway, I don’t remember him ever waking up to find a bare chested young man wearing a bow tie making and omlette for him in the kitchen. (*sigh*)

Oh another thing, just out of interest, when somebody shows no interest in sex, why are they assumed to be homosexual? He didn’t show any interst in men either which to me says asexual.
