Hey folks…..thank you for the sympathies. This is the first day that I have started to see improvement in this condition and hopefully will continue.

Sadgeezer – Yes middle-age; I guess I would be more accepting of my fate if I did not look so young. I am divorced with no kids 😥 😆 ….., have all my hair and no pot belly; plus I work with mostly kids – so I carry the illusion that I am still at my peak. I can still flirt with young women and not get “the look” – but I know I am living on borrowed time.

Got a speeding ticket yesterday – first in years. I really got pissed off about it as it was an extra bit of stress on top of everything else. The cop I talked to (motorcycle cop…..) was the same age as me and we talked about the great condition of my performance car (that I used to race….. 😥 ) and my shingles and his spots on the lungs (he said that to put my ticket and shingles in perspective). What I did not realize was that being singled out because of my car and pulled over for speeding – was a young man thing! Very soon I will look fondly at my muscle car days – as I drive down the boulevard at 20 mph in my “old fart” conveyance 😯 (hopefully I will wear a hat so as to warn other drivers of my status as an “old geezer”) .

Health will always put most things in life – into perspective. One thing I have learned – is that given the choice…..I really want to live – something you take for granted until you have to think about it….. Getting a ticket, looking at all those exposed female navels on a hot day, going to the parents for supper, are still things I still do but will eventually disappear in time.

The reason I started posting back here was mostly due to stress on the “home front”; and I missed talking with the kids – people I can still make an impression on….. I guess I really am living up to the term “Sadgeezer”. Guess I will go outside and just break into an all out run – nothing reminds you of life and youth when you “open the jets” to the max – hope I don’t get a heart attack…..

Well Sadgeezer: Since nobody has replied in over nine months; I guess not many have watched the show 💡 . I would watch the show, but I only can get one channel 😡 ; This may be the result of me cancelling my cable 🙄 . I cancelled the cable two years ago (telling them that I lost my job 😯 – actually I had to cut down on expenses 🙁 – the lady must have felt sorry for me as nobody came around to cut the line 😀 . 24 months later a guy called Habib (yes – true! 😕 ) told me that a mistake was made and that they had to disconnect the line 😉 . I told them to go ahead….. 😥 They told me they could give me three free months if I signed up again 💡 . I said nothing 😈 . He then left a note at the door threatening disconnection 👿 . I did nothing….. 😳 . Then a lady phoned asking why I did not want to stay with the cable ❓ . I said: because I no longer watch the TV 🙂 . Then Habib left another note threatening disconnection 😮 . One month passed….. ➡ …..and then I turned on the TV and the cable was cut 👿 . Of course – if they had seen a dish on the roof…..that cable would have been cut in minutes 8) 👿 ). In conclusion; since I have not watched the show, I can not give an opinion – though I would have if I could…..

Re Logan: I think I have one up on you guys as I watched The Prisoner series with the summations by Troyer and watched the interview with Patrick (live I believe). I should tell you that it was my distinct impression (from his body language and a short statement) that he was genuinely amazed at all the interpretation that went into every episode. I truly think he looked at that audience (and by association) and the T.V. audience in the same light as one looks at devote “Trekies…..” – i.e. a bit out there.

I personally was a fan of The Prisoner and considered him a kind of hero. Now, as an “Old Fart”, I question my former admiration. Take away Number Six’s struggle – and where is he? He then has nothing….. If he had a family and many friends; “giving in” my have returned him to his life – but he is alone…..and therefore must resist to stay “alive”.

I knew a man like the prisoner; lived alone and got drunk a lot. He would wake me up at all hours of the night from bars like the “Paradise Palms” (never forget that call). I mostly hated the guy as he was really annoying. But; I was lobbying the government at the time and he knew politics and the law (gave me the hard to get (though should be easy) copies of proposed bills, etc.) so we kept in contact. He must have pissed some people off as the cops harassed him and laid some bogus charges. But this destitute old lonely man showed me by fighting the government and winning – still can’t believe it! I later could not take this guy anymore and ended the friendship (plus the elevator to this guy’s apartment smelled like piss – what a dump).

The prisoner is dead – took out a gun one night in his old age and blew his brains out….. Always ends this way with these types of guys. What probably scared me and annoyed me about this man (not the prisoner); was that I could see myself becoming like him….. So what are the obits of secret agents…..would be interesting to find out. I am not really religious yet my university thoughts turned to a form of theology; and while a family life may be trying – those people still seem happy with a meaningful life…..

I guess The Prisoner may still have been unfinished business. It seems to me to be a sad story of a sad life. Without family and God – one really is a “prisoner” of one’s own mind…..

Actually I don’t see the connections at all; but then, I have been divorced from the series for a long time. If a song is inspired by the series and the authors of the song acknowledge it – then it is….. If not, then any connection is just rationalizing on our part; nothing wrong there….. The world needs many different views of the same work of art; without this capacity, we would loose the ability for personal interpretation (a bad thing). I must sound like a complete bore here – did I mention that I ran down the block after the ice cream truck (and did not catch it) – now that is the real me…..

    Just an update:

SARS is still in Toronto but only 31 people now have the illness. However some tests for the virus have turned up positive in many people who did not show the classic symptoms …..

Anyway…..I’m delivering a envelope to someone in an apartment today at work – when what do I see…..but a guy in a hospital respirator and surgical gloves getting out of a health care company van apparently to deliver some Chinese food…… yes – Chinese food – in the brown bag with the bill stapled on top…..
(for what comes next; please try to look past the lunacy of a guy delivering Chinese food in a mask and gloves…..) Me, he, and an old Chinese woman get into the elevator together. I can not resist anymore and tell this guy that he is wearing his mask wrong – he did not “pinch” the metal band that seals the mask to the bridge of the nose. The guy just gave me the “ya…..ya” look; so the old Chinese woman interjects and confirms my criticism telling him that that is the type of thing that spreads the virus (does any of this seem at all strange to you…..Toronto’s version of elevator talk- or am I just used to it over here?). In any case; we all part company but I did run into the guy on the way back to our vans. I told him to wait and pulled my “SARS Kit” and showed him my mask with the severely pinched bridge area, and also my anti-viral spray that works better than the gloves he was wearing. This guy had no clue at all as to what he was doing. If his hands were contaminated…..he would just keep making deliveries spreading the virus all over the place! He countered that he did have these Kentucy Fried Chicken towelettes that he could use on his hands…..

This is the state of health care in Toronto – third rate – third world….. No wonder the virus is still marauding around the hospitals here….. This guy was probably delivering some food to people who were immediately quarantined and needed to eat before groceries could be delivered (as a result of the recent lab tests no doubt…..). I and some other health care people laughed like hyenas over this thing; but it does show how woefully inadequate today’s hospitals and health care workers are trained in epidemic emergencies. The big one is apparently on the horizon (the so called pandemic) – Lord help us all…..
All the issues about intellectual property can therefore be summed up in this way. You must decide if your post is going to be beneficial (financially or in terms of fame) to someone other than yourself. If you think it is then you should either refrain from posting or take steps to make sure that your intellectual property is marked with a copyright notice.
Fair enough; and I thank you for your reply. It is true what you say about protecting your ideas. I personally am getting tired of delivering packages from “The Shopping Channel” (to eighty year old women…..) for a living and may take one last shot at making my mark in the world of philosophy (a pet interest of mine); as much as the ideas themselves…..was the idea of putting a black face in the text books of contemporary philosophy. I can’t tell you how much it bothers me to see what a wreck I have made of my life and what meager talents I wasted. Perhaps if I had a family I could justify things more; but I have a free hand and am just wasting time/life…..

The question – of course – is how to keep ideas connected to my name and face….. Just shopping an idea around is probably fatal. I will have to work something out – but the problem of intellectual property may prove to be a greater act of genius than the ideas I am trying to protect. We shall see – but – expect me to make a fool of myself….. It is strange; I would have liked nothing more then to have spent the rest of my life in academia, sheltered from normal society. But even in this bizarre existence I now live…..I am still very connected to my academic roots. Too long a story here – but this “dog” has to return home and “poop” on the family”s living room carpet. I can’t wait….hehehehe!!!!!

With regard to the internet, all just fun; but I thought it necessary to open this subject up rather than it remain just a click of everyone’s mouse when they sign up…..

Actually – I was hoping that this thread would mysteriously disappear when I came back home as it is really bothering me. I have a confession to make: I am now holding back on what I truly feel because of fear….. If I appear to be less of what I was before it is because I fear for my personal freedom due to the changing global political structure we find ourselves in today. I would be a fool to say what I really feel on the net – so I will not. Every page I see; every post I make is saved and accessible to the RCMP (who I have less of a problem with – hell…..some of my friends are RCMP…..hehehe…..), and more importantly to the FBI/CIA unnamed contingent that is working with the RCMP (ya…..right…..) for U.S.A. security reasons…..

Paranoid? ***racist anti-…..deleted*** (yes it was a full paragraph and I had to delete it).

Anyway Logan; don’t expect any pearls of wisdom from me here – I am just another disgruntled old guy. If I was of a better frame of mind – I would take my philosophic ideas/property and give them to one of my untalented contemporaries teaching their thoughtless mutterings to a university class of clueless idiots (the fate of present day philosophy). I would have less of a problem if the guy was black as I originally wanted to put a Black face in present day philosophy – this dream is all but gone now…..

What does this personal rant have to do with anything in this thread? Not much except for my hesitations relating to Black contributions being turned into White “genius”. Most particularly in the States where it has always been my contention that Black America has been the largest global influence and direction of what we call culture; and it is culture which separates us from the animals. Yet this same race is made to feel they are inferior and subhuman. You can figure it out for yourself…..

Individual intellectual property must be supported even if it can not be practically protected. Throwing up our hands in exasperation and saying there is nothing that can be done goes against the spirit of individual human rights. But the record company’s arguments are a sham. The copyright laws are inconsistent internationally (there are practical conflicts even between Canada and the States – heard about them this morning but forgot much as I did not know I would need the information). Once again…..these are corporate rights – not truly individual (the budding singer has to “agree” to onerous conditions that give up much of his intellectual rights to a music corporation). I am only interested in the belittlement of true and unique individual intellectual property. I find it funny that my humanitarian thoughts/property hold little value or weight to governments – yet – any anti-government thoughts are saved and vigorously connected and ascribed to me specifically for a court of law. What hypocritical bullshit!

You know what Elmey – I give up!!!!! Last year I went through dramatics to show the kids why we need and cherish our rights and freedoms – but they just do not get it. I give up.

So it occurred to me that the problem may be me….. so I will turn this discussion around and question why I feel the need to bark at the erosion of rights in our society. The obvious analysis from those that know me is that I am a minority and that if I was not; I would have become part of the establishment, taking advantage of the apathy of the masses for my own personal gain. However, being outside of this loop, I can only rebel against it, rights and freedoms being the only defense against the establishment’s ability to create new onerous laws – So there you have it. This is all my problem. Now you all can sleep better at night.

Yet…..I still think that some kid from China or some other closed society, will read this post at some illegal internet cafe and laugh his head off. But I will never know as he would not dare to post a reply. You don’t know what you have until you lose it – But wait…..the Chinese guy never had it and regrets not having it (remember what happened in the square…..). Why am I typing this out now…..I have to go to bed…..

No reply…..well that is a reply in itself. I am not here to pick on Sadgeezer himself (as all web sites are similar in nature in this respect); but just to ask the questions that all Sadgeezers should understand when they contribute to the fabric of this site. More disturbing; is the apathy of my fellow Sadgeezers in this thread – Has our society given up all ideas of personal property?

I find is saddening that the only time intellectual property issues raise it’s head is when a web site finds it’s stuff being used on a foreign site. Human rights must always supersede any other intangible entity’s rights. We “Humans” are in charge…..remember. We get so used to clicking a button to agree to terms that nobody ever reads, that we forget that we have any rights at all….. Visa, Mastercard, Corporations and other non-human “legal entities” have no power if we refuse to acknowledge them. You can say “no”, you can say : ” I have changed my mind”. You have the power to say no – or to agree and challenge what you agreed to (but the entities do not like you to do this…..).

The cowardice of my fellow human beings appalls me. Listen, seven years ago I was was forced to lobby against my government on a new set of laws I considered an affront to our rights. I took it upon myself to get into an argument with our Justice Minister (here in Canada). Not only did I argue with him, but I gave him my name and address as I did not fear my government. So – what did happen to me? Well our Royal Canadian Mounted Police followed me around the whole weekend…..big deal. They also opened a file on me (I had a friend in the RCMP who showed me the file) . I am still here….. When was the last time you fought for an issue you considered important? When did you lay it on the line? No? Are you ashamed – do you feel that you are a good citizen?

I truly fear for the future of the human race. Is Sadgeezer going to put bamboo shoots under my finger nails for posting this query? Will my posts mysteriously disappear…..Oh…..the horror….. Don’t be afraid to question; don’t be afraid to push back – it is a good feeling!

I once had a life, what you would consider a typical domestic life…..about ten years ago…..gone now. I had another life (so to speak) living the secret existence among the “fringe element” – that left about two years ago….. About a year and a half ago I got my first computer (swore I would never use one) and started surfing the net. Almost one year ago; I posted one of my first posts on a bulletin board (LEXX.com actually) in order to find out about the final episode (I fell asleep and missed it). I had a lot of fun messing about in these forums, but I would have to agree with Sadgeezer in his initial analysis that opened this thread…..

Yes; in the end the computer – for most of us – is but a tool/communication device. However; that is all it will ever be….. No matter what fun you can squeeze out of it – in the end it comes down to one person alone in front of a monitor and a keyboard – not a very healthy situation….. The computer gives us an “excuse” to avoid the more gregarious aspect of our lives by supplying a facsimile via a monitor. Look at the hours used as shown by your ISP – are you ashamed? I have family and friends overseas and the computer (in this case) – is a low cost method of communication. The excessive posting on the forums seems to be a more insidious obsession that alienates me from real society. So I (and others it seems) try to break this obsession any way we can. For me; the best way was to make myself unwelcome so that it would be hard and embarrassing to come back into the fold. That does work, but it is not the best way I would like to be remembered – but it does work…..

I have just finished viewing the final episode of the Lexx series; my initial post in sci-fi has been fulfilled. That was the only productive use of the computer in this case. The rest was fun – but only so much fluff. I did meet many friends and had a memorable time on these forums; but we have to eventually face our own realities in our personal lives…..we will only get one chance at it. So – in the end – Sadgeezer’s assumption is a correct one.

Re LexxLurker: Actually that hospital is Scarborough General Hospital and not Scarborough Grace Hospital. The two hospitals are just miles apart and have the same initials and similar addresses (i.e. S.G.H and 3030 Birchmount/3050 Lawrence). Scarborough Grace was probably the the start of the SARS invasion into North America. The Grace and it’s personnel had to endure much hardship for several months, handling nothing but SARS cases. One such person desperately looked for alternative employment during the crises. In any case; after the first wave of SARS was over – the hospital was released from SARS detail and returned to normal status and even opened the maturnity ward. North York General and Scarborough General and others have current cases already there and will handle future cases.

With regard to the article: It is my contention the the best defense for SARS is real military bio-chemical gas masks and real military bio-chemical suits. I do not care about the image – only the protection of health care workers. Anyways…..

The final instalment of my story will deal with outside issues. Up till now; you have been privy to my world and how I saw it/interacted with it. But SARS affected more people than the sick.

Chinese people (Asian in general for that matter) were shunned, nobody sat next to them on the subway, etc. There was also a lot of hate added to the fear of this group of people. Many blamed naturalized Chinese Canadians for importing the illness to Canada (totally irrational); and while the racism was mostly subtle, it was there and talked about when they were not present.

In the health care field, this discrimination was also there. Every health care office had the usually Ministry Of Health warnings not to enter if you fell into one or more of the affected groups. However; many offices decided to further clarify the matter by identifying distinct groups that were not welcome…..

Cowardice….. Others just plain locked their doors and I had to knock on the door and proclaim who I was before the door would “crack” open and then open wide for the delivery. Most notable in this field were the doctors who decided to take a “vacation”….. Others decided they would treat patients by appointment only. Some walk in clinics turned off the lights and locked the doors and I had to phone or knock loudly to get someone to come out…..almost laughable! One door of such a clinic had some signs on the door: “gone for the day…..be back tomorrow” (was on the door for several days…..)/”Please note: We do not have SARS!”/”receptionist wanted – full or part-time”….. I should have photographed all of this. In general – the nurses were great, the doctors…..nuff said….. There is too much here to discuss, some other time…..

Many lessons will be learned for this continuing SARS experience. For instance; not having walk in clinics located in shopping malls, twice – contagious SARS patients wandered through crowded malls to the walk in clinic – exposing how many to the virus (this was kept secret from the press). Oh, I could go on, but I really just wanted to write this little chapter of my life down and save it as a memory. This forum has aided me in typing the story out for myself; and hopefully giving you – the reader – a personal view of the SARS experience in Toronto. Take care.

Panic mode…..: A Fever? I could not believe it! I took it again and I think I got the same reading – but I forgot to shake the mercury back (and old thermometer), the next reading was back to normal. The other readings from then on were normal. A random fluctuation? Most probably I placed the thermometer on my computer or some other warm object…..who knows…..

In any case that was the last major event in my quarantine and I returned to work. Work…..you could hardly tell I had left. My scanner was untouched (and I really mean “untouched”), and the truck I had been driving looked like it had just been parked. I was obviously treated like a leprosy case, but I was expecting this. The hospital was in lockdown and we did not deliver there anymore (an employee came and picked it up – they had nothing to do…..only SARS patients in that major league hospital…..).

But work had changed drastically when I returned. I now carried a mask, gloves, and anti viral spray for my hands and equipment (the gloves were useless). I still had eight buildings that contained walk-in medical centers and G.P. offices/pharmacy – lucky me…..and all in and around “ground zero” (as the hospital was called). SARS patients would walk in to these clinics regularly, quarantining staff who were not masked and gloved, or scaring the ones that were. You could always tell – the ambulance and police car gave it away.

I would spend three and a half hours in these buildings. Never taking the elevator (someone could cough) under the pretext that sick people do not take the stairs – doctors and nurses seemed to follow that same advice. It was suffocating wearing that mask and running around and scaring people not used to the sight. But every one in the health care profession was wearing them. Hot looking girls in tight skirts would wear them (kind of sexy I thought…..even thought about someone coming up with designer pattern masks, etc…..). If I heard a cough in a office, I would turn around and come back later (droplets could enter eyes etc.). Under every fire exit door to the stairs was a little pile of tissues that people left (not wanting to touch possible SARS contaminated handles). I talked to drug company reps in parking lots about spraying vs gloves etc. – totally unreal….. You were afraid of prepared foods and I lived off chocolate bars since I could eat them without touching it with my hands – boring after a while….. But the worst part of this was the cowardism and racism seen in the health care field and general population as a whole…..

Thanks Sadgeezer – They were strange times at the beginning. Some people panicked. The hospitals ran out of masks and had to use inferior surgical masks (the N95 is preferred – I will only use the 3M N95 or better…..). Just a note…..the 2.00 dollar 3M N95 mask was selling on the street for 49.99 at one point!

The morning brought a new reality. How was I to eat? How was I to pay my bills? A talk with management the day before only resulted in them questioning my right to go into quarantine. They thought that I should use up all of my sick days and then go on worker’s indemnity. Forget that! I was not sick; I was exposed on the job!

The trip to work was uneventful. However; my appearance in the canteen showed the concern of my co-workers as they kept a safe distance. They supported my grievance though and I left immediately to the warehouse floor to have a talk with my manager. Actually; I made a b-line for him and cornered him. This guy said this and that…..but when I told him of all the various ways I had been exposed – well, he started to get upset, told me to leave immediately, and that I would get my minimum hours no matter what. Fine with me. On my way back home I stop by my parent’s place to pick up some food that they had left on their entrance and I had to holler at my mother to stay inside while I picked the stuff up…..mothers….. So started ten days in quarantine.

I was lucky; I lived alone and did not have to wear a mask or take any of the precautions that the others had to (in order not to infect anyone else). I would spend my time on the computer talking to friends and posting on my favorite message boards. Every day I had to take my temperature in the morning and evening; and see if it rose over 100.4 degrees or if I showed any of the other symptoms of SARS (dry cough, aches, etc.). We also had a daily press briefing where health officials would read out the SARS total as if it were sports scores. In any event; the days passed uneventfully but I started to get a bad case of “cabin fever”…..I had to get out. I figured that since I was not showing symptoms, I could risk a drive around town in my car and then back home – what could be safer than that?

I drove downtown into the swanky Queen Street area where many went clubbing. My head was starting to clear up when this stupid squeegee kid comes up asking to clean my windshield. I sprayed washer fluid on my windshield and fanned the wiper blades in a vain attempt to get rid of him but Noooooo! – he wanted it his way. This guy went ahead and washed my windshield anyway and blocked my car trying to extort money from me. I had no choice; I lowered the window and gave him a toonie (two dollar coin) and gave him a sarcastic “Thanks!” – but really, I wanted to say: “Welcome to SARS…..As**ole”. That was the last time I broke quarantine.

More days passed and I figured the danger period was over. Oddly enough, I was telling a friend just that when I took the thermometer out of my mouth and it read 100 degrees plus…..

Class…… I could tell you some stories. Negative pressure rooms – they did not have enough. You have to forget about what we know now. Remember that this was in the early days when we really knew nothing of SARS. The first patients were thought to have had T.B. which really got the infection going. After the alert sounded loud and clear around the world; hospitals had a chance to nip it in the bud – not in Toronto though. The story is not over…..

Very good work. I guess I should make the notation the Giggerota showed her nipples though her outfit in the series (have pics. of this). So maybe a suggestion of them would be nice – if still in production. In any case – I like it.

Another Poem By The Prisoner (In The “Quiet Room”).

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the King’s horses and all the King”s men,
Could not put Humpty back together again.

So sprang the story of The Prisoner.
A very interesti9ng question and one which I have to admit, I have NEVER considered before. 🙂

Yep, No. 6 has never been considered a womaniser, in fact, as a James Bond type agent he is severely lacking a good set of chat-up lines, no letcherous smiles, no dribbling and no checking out bums as an attractive lady walks past. So, he’s definately not a SadGeezer!!

I mean, can you imaging chatting with Number 6 in the pub, what would you talk about? I bet it wouldn’t be if the YAnkees were gonna win the World Series again (coz their TOO good for any of them there other crappy baseball teams!), or If Manchester United would get stuffed by Liverpool (again!) or if Lita Alexander really was a 36DD.

Yep, I can’t imagine any of that!

But having said that, I certainly can’t imaging him chatting to his girlfriends about the colour of the front room wallpaper, or if he would look good in a pink halterneck sweater….. Naaa.

Number 6 is too macho. I think he is just single minded, respectful of the ladies (except when he gave one a slap in one of the episodes!!) …. and no fun at a party!
I beg to differ, Sadgeezer. Look at the facts:

    1. Appears to have always been single (though not crucial to the argument).

    2. Stylish dresser.

    3. Slim build.

    4. Fastidioulsy maintained swank townhouse and cute little two-seater sports car…..

    5. Secret agent.

Come on Tony…..what more evidence do you need? Was the reason he resigned based on the need to “come out”? Was this the terrible, dark, secret – the unspoken truth…..

Remember that The Prisoner was produced in an era to which homosexuality was taboo. The Prisoner’s latent homosexuality never had a chance to shine. Imagine the real story; had the writer free rein on the storyline. Is it not more natural – as opposed to Number 6 screaming at Number 2 to “die…..die…..die…..” in the second to last episode – that Number 6 stop short of killing Number 2; and instead, cradle Number 2 in his arms with one long passionate soul-kiss and a delicate brush across the whimpering Number 2’s genitals….. Thinking along these lines…..Is Number 6 so obviously in the dominant role in this new reality…..or is he more receptive (i.e. a fudge-packer or the recipient?).

If this is the true story: Of a secret agent – coming out – in a hostile world. Then I submit that this should be the basis of the new movie….. Just some random thoughts as I sit here wasting another Sunday afternoon…..

Why I Left The Lexx Board…..

I read the question of the poll and decided not to vote. But the larger question is a more important one. Obsession…..more importantly…..fan obsession.

Flamegrape; we have had some fairly bombastic interactions on various forums here and on that “other board…..”. But I am speaking to you here as a friend; not as the obnoxious “Fatguy” – but as Maurice – a rather ordinary man who like many others, looks to escapism as a means of ignoring the more important issues in his life. This “therapy” is all well and good as long as we see this as “part-time activity” from the “real world”. But when the “real world” becomes too ugly; this attraction to the escapism found in sci-fi may become a fall into a very dark deep hole. I have been there many times while under pressure of school or work; but sooner or later you break the “fever” and get back to living in the real world (even though that may not be as exciting as sci-fi). That is why I made it very difficult to come back to LEXX.com for instance; the attraction of that place was too involved for me to continue – so I broke free the only way I knew I could. I have an obsessive personality – and this can be a good thing when concentrating on a particular task at hand – a bad thing when you fall into a trap. You may have fallen into such a trap and I suggest you ponder your recent actions and ask yourself where this is headed. You have many friends here and they can offer objective advice on whether my post here is well founded or not.

My advice to you Flamegrape – and I am making this as blatent as possible so there is no way to avoid the connection – is to take a “vacation” from sci-fi and get back to reality! This post is not a flame as I am genuinely concerned for your health. Others are likewise concerned; but do not have the “balls” to state the obvious – so I will. If you can not break free of this obsession – then I seriously suggest psychological help. As it stands right now, you are already publicly displaying yourself as a person in need of help – so I am trying to help you. If you need someone to talk to, there are many here, I am available also as (funny to be saying this) I consider you a friend.

    Delurking…..:

Came back to say that I feel that I may have unwittingly been leading many down the garden path with my thread – a combination of bad memory (keeps getting worse) and a hastily manufactured topic. I only recorded the last episode and can not even get pictures of Number Six in his usual clothing; so I am going on twenty year old memories.

Nice to see some familiar faces I must say; a pleasant distraction from the grim reality most of us in the health care area are facing in Toronto. SARS has come back big time in Toronto and my work puts me with the institutions and people who deal with this on the front lines. Was almost quarantined a second time last Sunday but a goof up in hospitals kept my freedom for this week; and so it goes – now know three people who have died from SARS over the last two months….. This was the reason for my impromptu return to Sadgeezer – when I saw Logan’s new forum on The Prisoner – I just could not resist…..nostalgia…..

However; I just wanted to state that I never intended to steer any Prisoner fans into responses that were colored by my initial post. I am a fool – and those who follow in the footsteps of a fool…..So now you have been warned. I never really realized how comfortable I was with this crowd until I left. OOOps – almost deleted this…..take this post for what it is – Take care.

A movie….. I did not even know about this until I read it here. I guess I must be getting old as I thought The Prisoner was very dated in time even if many of it’s themes were ageless. It seems the Cold War era with it’s spy vs spy, double agents, and disinformation – were a perfect back drop for The Prisoner. “I will not be pushed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered”…..My life is my own” (or something like that – old man’s memory…..) – is very indicative of that time (so old I lived it). The subterfuge, lack of sexuality or emotion that permeates the atmosphere that is the village probably will not play very well to the audience of today. Very much a cerebral thing…..oh why bother….. I will not watch the new movie. Some things should not be messed with.

The last and second to last….. The look into Number Six and his innate predisposition to be a “lone wolf”. In real society the “lone wolf” exists on the fringes of society, constantly bothered by the police and watched – many of the individuals lead lonely lives but like it that way….. On the other hand – the rulers of the community likewise are a lonely bunch (“lonely at the top”) but like it that way. Both abide by their own rules yet the rulers make rules for the masses (while their activities are overlooked by the police). The rulers and the “fringe element” sometimes change places as they are cut of the same cloth – so to speak….. All of the above is seen in the Prisoner; particularly in the last two episodes .

Well…..if anyone would cause me to “come out of the woodwork”; it would be you Logan! Congrats on the forum and position – you are one person whose rules I will respect and abide with. As for another Prisoner devotee I know – do not let my appearance here deter you. I have stayed away from the other place so you could post there as you wished; but this place was not included so I figured I could post on this forum. Please do not let my presence affect your enjoyment of Logan’s forum. Anyway, I may not be a regular here; but will always enjoy the more “cerebral” discussions of the social micro that is the “Village”.

For anyone who wishes to retrieve and display their comments/compositions regarding my threads; please e-mail me and I will send you the information to repost. Leaving a black slate with replies is wrong as I did not present a blank piece of paper, nor did the others respond to a blank piece of paper; so the threads were deleted. I can not leave any of my works in this site as one thread deleted is censorship with regard to all of the works at this site; therefore they all had to go. I guess I should say something here as I am the most deleted/edited poster of the bunch.

So far at LEXX.com I have had 5 threads (that I know of) deleted and probably 50 to 100 posts entirely deleted and I have no idea how many edited (probably about five yesterday alone).

There is another poster who gets edited/deleted when he is there; but he visits infrequently so I guess I take top prize for the so-called “spam”. I guess I am used to this type of activity – always a negative reaction. I could show gold and the reaction would be negative (must be me). In my younger days I wrote a book (like a road map back to sanity for the mentally lost). It sits in my basement unaltered for over twenty years because I have given up on the human race; for the most part. The point of all this personal history is that I do not trust my fellow man. I would not trust myself with a lot of power. “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” – that is why we have a constitution, laws, and leaders who do not have a free hand in important matters. Judging what is worthy to remain in a fan website should be a no-brainer – I would allow everything except that which would leave the website and adminsitrators open to legal action. Put your faith in human nature and you will always be disappointed, not always true, but very close to truth…..

Fantastic work Pet! I always thought that this kind of work was looked down upon as it was probably used for masturbation purposes by the armed forces, etc. On the contrary; I feel that an alluring woman that can bring a man to climax is a work of art due to the fact that the art caused an emotional response in it’s viewer – is that not the true definition of a work of art…..

With regard to improving websites; I would hitch my wagon to the Sadboard and do it here.

LEXX.com is in a very perilous position as it is. It is very much a corporate entity and the forums do not add to the bottom line. I would just let the site carry on until it’s natural death – whenever that happens. The truth is that many people on the net (for whatever reason) rely of these boards for friendship and as a hedge against the loneliness in thier lives; A push for improvements would probably close the site down (or have it linked to another board). One less fan site is not a good thing.

P.S. Flamegrape: I happen to know for a fact that corporations get a “bug up their bum” when an “outsider” wants to make changes to “their” site. I feel that asking them is not only a waste of time but actually dangerous to the longevity of a site that is nothing but a “cost” on the company books. Sadgeezer is completely different, you know the man himself and are already a part of the site; your efforts will not be wasted here.

One thing I like here is that there are actual forums for “fanfic” and such. I started a poetry thread at LEXX.com that keeps disappearing daily if brought back up to the top.

These are “text” forums; and I am all in favor of experimentation with the various forms of communication through the written word. One point – the rules and regulations on posting are more daunting to newbies. I posted a fairly violent (but not too graphic) piece of fanfic just to see the reaction and was pleased to see it stay up there. However, asking permission seems counterproductive to new and shocking techniques that deserve experimentation in forums such as this.

I do not know how Sadgeezer set up the constitution for his site; but sci-fi is the exploration of the new and unknown – setting limits seems to go against the spirit of sci-fi. I guess you can tell I am a big “freedom of speech” advocate.

The reality is that Fatguy does not understand himself. Actually you have to put those posts into the time frames they were posted and you will see that I posted them before joining here (Fatguy crosses fingers). At any rate, this is not a zero sum game – one can exist posting on both boards (Fatguy crosses fingers again…..).

Pet, you make me laugh sometime. I never really have that problem as I seem to have seen every sci-fi show of note when it was presented. As for Space 1999, the pre Mia days were the best. I hated it when they brought in Mia and that other guy who replaced Alan. I think I mentioned this before; but I rode the subway downtown with Barry Morse (the scientist) just after they had finished shooting.

Actually I would have to cheat and pick the last two episodes. I feel that the contest between no.1 and no.2 is important (at least to a Lone Wolf like me). It is winning this contest that sets the stage for “Fallout” (hope I got this all right – memory you know…..). I believe that “Fallout” is more a trip in no.6’s mind more than anything else…..

Maurice P.S. Some who know me – I am writing some fanfick – please do not ascribe any imagery in this story to any “hidden” aspects of my personality, it is just fiction…..

Fatguy is not really so bad….. Many consider his company preferable to having a broken arm for example…..LOL But seriously – The Sad site is really a jewel in the rough that I consider to have a base that can grow and develop.
