Frey – It’s from the news article I put up about Sci Fi Channel’s 2004-5 slate.

This looks like one of the few shows it has planned that looks promising. Although I tend to think of it as more of a ‘Buffy’ or ‘Tremors: The Series’ meets ‘Eerie Indiana’ show. I’m not sure it it’ll be a humour based show, but that would be a big plus.

Sorry, I only skimmed the original posts, not finely read them. So I withdraw my devil’s advocate idea.

    Blah, foot tastes bad today!

RL Things should calm down soon enough. I only have a lesser infinity number of things to take care of this week. 😉

If you remember, the ban list was carried over to the new site. FX (responsibly) had written down all of the banned users, ip’s and other relevant information, save Bonnee. I thought we just decided to let it be in the hopes that he learned his lesson and decided to grow up.

To play devils advocate, it is possible that Bonnee took A-DM’s posts and set them up so that he could reply to each isolated paragraph. I do something similar when I want to reply to a piece of a post at a time. I have on occasion accidently submitted an incomplete post. See any of the Squish vs Headgehog (add-a-line games) threads for examples. Plus we’ve all seen someone post justa quote by accident. I think I’ve seen a few of us do it in one way or another.

I’ve been meaning to post a reply to aformentioned thread, but RL stuff is getting in the way. (as a matter of fact I tried typing a similar reply to this message an hour ago, but my computer crashe dright before I hit post) However I would like to elaborate on a post I made earlier this week in this forum. I do NOT like war or conflict. PERIOD. I certainly don’t like Saddam, nor do I think he should be the night manger at Taco Bell let alone a major nation. I would like to see him out of the picture. preferably by diplomacy or natural causes. Yet I know that would never happen. I hate the way dictator Bush has handled the situation (he inflated) with Iraq. I don’t see how he could have reasonably handled this problem any worse. With that said I still do not wish to see anyone hurt. Especially not my fellow country(wo)men and or allies. I don;t intend for this last paragraph to make this thread off topic. If you wish to reply to this, wait fro me to type something in the proper forum or through pm.

Speaking of email, has anyone else had trouble accessing their sadgeezer email or ftp acount since thursday (Or whatever day it was that the site was down)?

I agree that everything seems to have slowed down recently. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with Arch-dictator Bush’s plans for world domiantion though. In my case I’m just getting out of two long weeks of midterms, so now I’m slowly getting back to being social.

The site has been off and on very slow for me the last week. However the last day has been abnormaly slow. It’s like I’m back on a 2400 baud modem!

I’m in Philadelphia, PA USA and use a cable modem.
Clock needs fixing- 6hrs slow
It sounds to me that you’re set to the central time zone. This problem and others are explained in the SADFAQ section.

    For this problem it says:
The times are almost certainly correct, however what you may be seeing are times displayed in a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case you should change your profile setting for the timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc.
But if you want to get really technical about it. The sadbaord clock is only a few seconds slower then the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) which is the official clock for the US government and as such the entire country.
(However it takes a few seconds to load the entire page so its probably right on time) Incidently the US Armed Forces uses the clock from the National Naval Observatory outside Washington. England uses the clock at the Greenwich Observatory. Of course all three of these clocks read the exact same time. Technically speaking the Naval Observatory clock is the most accurate, since it regularly checks itself against known pulsars. Still all three clocks won’t lose or gain a second in several thousand years or more!

Someone submitted the calender event(s) for 24 in the UK. Living a few thousand miles away, I just assumed all the information was correct and approved it “as-is”. I did think 10am Sunday was an odd time, of course England also likes to play Cricket, so it didn’t seem that weird. 🙂

My only moderator type problem, besides getting used to the new controls, is that I can no longer access my sadgeezer email and ftp account. It’s not accepting my password.

Oh, and I hope you don’t mind all the emails the system is sending you whenever I add/edit an event. I’ll eventually get things figured out. 😉

I noticed taht you’ve been posting some news items. Will the news items be erased when the site goes public shortly? If not I’d like to start posting a few things (I’ve been putting it off becasue I didn’t want to have to do it twice) and add some entries tot the calender.

I like the new site a lot. But it definatly needs a theme/graphics.
At first all the items in the administrator menu seemed overwhelming (don’t worry I looked but didn’t touch), but as far as I can figure I won’t be using much of those controls anyway so it shouldn’t matter. As moderators will all of these items still be available to us when the site goes public? I particularly like the controls to create polls, and do stuff with the calendar and news items.
I am curious about the user groups. What are they? I understand ‘moderators’, ‘admins’, and possibly ‘users’ and ‘sadgeezers’. Are ‘users’ anonymous people, and ‘sadgeezers’ registered users? What are ‘super moderators’?

What will happen to the current news feed system? Will it be scrapped or will it be integrated into the new site? As you may have noticed I created a small listing of previous news articles in the sadgeezer sightings forum a little over a month ago. With the intention of creating a place where people can look up previous stories. (I was going to bring it up after I made it but forgot to ) Even I forgot old postings I made, and was happily (and sometimes unsettled) by reading them again, when I went through my news archives . Will the new system store all previous news articles or will it only store the newest 5?

As far as I know, it won’t. FOX may rerun all the episodes before new episodes of The Prentender John Doe over the next few months. But I doubt they’d use prime air time to rerun a show it wouldn’t renew. Newsgroups or P2P programs are your best bet to find old episodes. (of anything!)

While normally it is a big deal when we (collectivly) ban someone. Its usually a black or white issue. Someone did something very bad and it is handled immediatly. In this case it was a lot of little annoyances. But we should all remember (save, Invisible Lunatic sorry you haven’t been here that long) that we’ve discussed the hell out of Bonnee in this forum. The debate to ban/censor him has happened a half dozen times. Personally I would have waited until the next big stunt he pulled, but banning him now is just as well. Can this option be made passive for moderators? Currently I (or any mod) can just post an article to the sadnews feed and it appears immediatly. (47% of the time its grammatically correct!) Will this new news function replace or compliment the current news system?

    quote:

There are lots of other cool bits, the best feature however, is the Visual Editor. It’s always bugged me that there is no WYSIWYG editor on BBS systems but this has one – AND it has an upload feature!

Try entering a news item in the ‘submit news’ section or a calendar event or a forum message (say in the moderators area) or ANYWHERE where there is a text form and you will be asked if you want to use the Visual Editor. If you click ok, you will then be given editing options just like in Windows. You can upload an image and use that in the post too!

It doesn’t work so well with the forums because it has a complicated error checking routine (version 1.4 will be better), but it is still cool.

I really like this new interface, and it should make for some more colorful posts. However when I tested the system in the forums it had an option to preview the post. This option existed while I was in the normal windows text interface thingy that you brought up. After clicking it, it showed me all the assorted html code that went along with it. This new window did not given me the option to revert back to the previous format (the way it should look to the user) and as such I posted a message with all the code. (I deleted the message soon after) Is this one of the problems that won’t exist in the other version of bboard you mentioned?
    What is WYSIWIG?

    quote
All I ask is that you don’t go into the Administration Menu (you might inadvertently screw something up if you don’t know how it all works) and that you bear in mind that this is a project I am doing for work (helping the British Government with the modernisation of the Ministry of Work and Pensions no less).
Does this mean that I can have Britain send me a monthly cheque? Or is this one of those things were I can launch nuclear weapons at Botswana?

Does this new system allow the moderators more control over there forums? Such as placing links at the top of the forum page? I have some ideas for the TTR forum. I think/pray that when the show airs, that the forum will get more interesting.

Wow, I didn’t see this coming! I expected him to do something really bad before he’d get banned. So did I miss this huge blowout, or was it just his usual arrogant, childish, bombastic, putz behavior that did him in? (was the thing with the four smiles the perverbial straw?)

Does anyone else feel that he’s been testing us all along to see what he’d have to do to get banned. Like it was all part of some twisted psychology experiment, some sort of research he was perversely conducting. Maybe he’ll write a long wordy paper about the clannish behavior of scifi fans. Or as he may put it The Sadgeezer Cabal. Seriously he was always doing just barely enough to get banned and then rescind all his comments. Back in March he emailed me about his troll behavior and then spinning it toward the behavior of the sg administration and active posters, as well as scifi fans in general. In other ways, his email was trying to recruit support. If anyone’s really curious I still have the emails.
I am paranoid, so maybe I’m just reading too much into things.

I like your idea Frey about not letting his nik back! But how will we know what his new nik is? Scratch that, we could probably tell its the condescending ******* after a few lines.

It’s a very bad thing. The Brady Bunchwas a very stupid and very corny tv series that aired in the 70s(?). It can best be compared to the Partridge Family, minus the singing. The show was about a father with three perfect boys and a mother with three perfect girls who choose each other for their second spouse. They have a perfect family of eight (six kids). Nothing bad ever happens, and all the “problems” are solved in 30 min episode. A lot of emphasis on morals, and christian values. It was very corny, and borderline pathetic. Today, networks would even dare think of airing a show like this. Unless it would be a parody of a show like this.
I guess this was the case with the Brady Bunch in the White House. I have a life and did not watch it. The Philadelphia Inquirer TV listings said “Greg (the father) is elected president, don’t ask how”. Even the normally impartial tv listings took it as a complete joke!

I’m pretty sure that TTR was animated on a version of 3D Studio Max. As Sadgeezer pointed out earlier, Chris Moeller and Chuck Austin work at a major animation studio, and I doubt they’d be using pirated software. The last time I played around with that program, I remember it being required to have some hardware plugged into the back of my computer in order for the program to load. Does 3d studio max not require this hardware anymore, or did some pirates find a way around that?

As for the creators selling TTR to the networks. I can understand the irony of the situation you described, but keep in mind after the show was sold to Scifi, the parent studio removed the two creators from the project. So they’re really not seeing any monetary reward for their hard work anyway.

Yea that’s sounding about right. scifi.com released this:
Meanwhile, the SyFy Portal Web site reported a rumor that Fox may announce the cancellation of the series as early as next week. Firefly, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, has been struggling in the ratings, and producers have been waiting for word on whether or not the network will order up the final nine episodes of the show’s first season. Fox has already picked up the “back nine” of the genre series John Doe, which follows Firefly on Fridays. SyFy based its report on an anonymous source at Fox, and the report is not confirmed, the site said.

Now I haven’t heard of SyFy Portal before this so I don’t know how reliable this information is. Hell, I could put up a blurb on the sadnews thingy on the left saying “Inside sources say that Mainframe Entertainment plan to announce next month that (insert network here) has purchased a season 5 of Reboot” This site broadcasts the newsfeed to dozens of other sites, the entire net could here about it within a week. And we have a decent reputation for news accuracy, so it’ll seem believable.

It’ll be a real shame if Firefly isn’t renewed. The show was finally starting to get interesting!

They strechted the Tremors series too far when they made the sequels. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed all three movies. But like the Jurrassic Park trilogy, the first one is by far the best. According to a blurb put out a few months ago, the residents of Perfection Valley will be dealing with Graboids and other new monsters every week. So it sounds a bit like Buffy. i.e. how it’s about vampire slaying (in this case graboids) but vampire’s are never seen, but there’s always a new monster killed.

Scifi just can’t let a bad idea die. Hence the firestarter series, amongst others. It’ll flop, just like Black Scorpian.

Feh, we can digitally add a bra, if need be. It’ll be like the network version of Showgirls. 😛

This may have been brought up before,
But why is this event being held on the scifi board? I mean really, could a more obsolete Babylonian Empire piece of shi# technology have been chosen to host this? Surely there are other farscape bboards out there that could have been used. Or at the very least a forum with a moderator

But it is cool to see Patricia Tallman helping out!

I’d like to thank the academy, and my parents, and all the horny and lonely pubescent boys out there…

We have a Buffy newsfeed? Can we have a buffy newsfeed? And maybe a firefly feed or hwo about about TTR? And while I’m begging, can I get the car this weekend?

Did you get a reply from your emails. I know I’ve been trying lately to contact him without much success, did you have any luck?

I don’t think he did take it lying down. Wouldn’t you fight, lie, cheat, steal, and beg if the project you’ve worked so hard on for years gets taken from you? The part at the end where he mentions that Episode 2 wasn’t that good, despite telling us for a year otherwise, makes it seem like there may be some bad blood there.

I never got a reply to my email. But his message going up shortly I contacted him, (with offers of using this site as an alternate place for fans to dl clips, and the use of this forum) makes me think (in an egotisitical sort of way) that he felt it was time to break the news to the TTR community. I’ll take that as a psuedo reply.

Of course I could just be over-anaylzing things, and be wrong.

I liked this episode a lot. It was probably the best aired episode. The way the episode jumped around was done very well. It wasn’t confusing, adn the time jumps were done at appropriate times. Well except for the last one with Jayne, that seemed kinda rushed.

Speaking of Jayne, before this episode, I thought it was just an inside joke about him switching sides if a better offer came along. After seeing how he joined the crew, it appears that his defection may prove a real threat in the future.

You can barely contain your enthusiasm, can you Sad? Cheer up, the show seems to be shaping up a bit. But then again, it wouldn’t be that hard to improve after Jaynestown.

Speaking of grabbing peoples attention. How are the banners performing? (What’s the shown/cliked ratio for each?)

And in a vauguely related topic; I remember it being said that the banner and newspro hits can be filtered out of the total hits value. If this is so, Sad, can you please take the newspro hits and subtract the number of page views. This should give the apporoximate number of times the newsfeed was access from a non-sadgeezer site.

Meet yourself halfway then. If you have a decent interent conenction, download the episodes. (but still watch them when they’re on tv, to show support for the series)

Someone may want to lock this thread up and start a “Banner ad part ducks” thread. It’d be kinda embarrassing if it was the moderators forum that was responsible for crashing the board.

Your up to season 5 already?! I’m not sure if we can pre-order season 3 yet over here?

Is season 7 being aired yet though? If not, when is it expected to?

I’ve made some corrections (spelling) and moved some of the text over in the second frame.

Has anyone else noticed that the banners will send you to random places if you have more then one sadgeezer.com window up? Also if you try to shift click (open in a new window) a banner it will give you an error.
