I don’t know all the details personally, but here goes; Some scenes were cut from earlier episodes, either for content or time. The first scene from the series was cut because it appeared almost like a rape scene. Adam on Six, and Bobo on T’Nuk. This was also the scene where Adam’s fingers is cut up by Six’s vagina.

Some other scenes were cut due to legal issues, copyrights etc. I’d be surprised to see these ever released.

Other edited items, include some phallic symbols, nipples (although I doubt these can be uncensored), and of course language.

In all not too much was censored, beyond language. But I’d really like to get an uncesored copy of Bob saying “You’ve got fucking mail”.
Am i missing something or what.
Not so much missing something, as you’ve got too much of something… grey matter.

The sad truth is that people ACTUALLY watch those saturday night movies, and worse still in (relatively) large numbers. I don’t understand it myself. Personally I feel dumber after just watching one of those commercials! As best I can figure the main audience is:

families (parents with kids who are too young to realize this stuff is unoriginal low budget garbage)

stoners

people imitating MST3K

channel loyalists (losers with nothing better to do)

those unfortunate bastards who’s TV are stuck on the Sci Fi channel
    [/list:u]
Sci fi Channel really could do better, without much effort. But they choose not to for whatever reason. As long as the tim eslot pulls in the desired ratings/demographics they won’t put much more into it. Unless of course they want a higher rating.
Really, I could care less. It’s not my network, nor my money. And more to the point,;I have better things to do on a Saturday night then watch the Sci Fi Channel!
I’ll leave the TAB’s block in.

Headge. I was maybe thinking of using the fact that there are lots of tabs to maybe string them along the top of the page, maybe above the last forum posts and visible on each page? It’s a bit awkward for users with small browser windows though.
Whatever works. My only concern is that the various tabs are present and clearly visible on all the pages. I’ve said this before, but seeing the variety of content available is what got me to bookmark and come back to this site. As far as I’m concerned, all the other menus are secondary.
I’ve taken off the silly top 50 websites thing and moved the search box down a bit. I’m tempted to allow only admins and mods to see the Top Searches box, though I can’t say it’s been that useful.
I haven’t gotten any use out of the top searches box. I’ve kept it minimized since day one. I use the top list, sadhits and to a lesser extent the http referrer to show me what people are interested in.

Besides the list of search queries will show the query AND the IP address for all users, not just mods/admins! I think is more of a concern then the comments displaying the IP address publicly.

    No.

Just add some more filler to the write up, add a few pics and what you’ve got is a sadgeezer.com review. One of the fun parts of writing a review can be tearing an episode apart, saying something to the effect of, “And that’s when I threw my beer at the TV”.

I don’t mean to sound condescending, but you guys didn’t know all along? I remember a press release almost a year ago that discussed the documentary, it’s premise and Shyamalan’s active involvement in its development. The recent controversy, including what sparked this discussion was all part of its promotion, which was really just in turn to promote the new film.

My brother and I did watch the documentary to find out what we could about the movie, but mostly to MST3K the parts that deserved it. It’s easy when one recognizes many of the landmarks in the background. ”Hey look they’re on 422, what’s the chances of that? Besides that you can’t go anywhere in Chester County without being on 422!” etc.

As for Bonnie Hammer, venting won’t do much good. It really counter productive, as it will only aggravate fans further. As I understand it, she was recently promoted. Something which typically doesn’t happen to people who fail in their previous position. I don’t like the direction the channel is going either. But I just stopped watching the channel. No need to get myself aggravated, because they stopped showing re-runs of Space: Above and Beyond, Crusade or Seaquest.

I wasn’t impressed with the new series. It’s barely even set in the same universe as SG1. More to the point, it seems rather simple, and unimaginative. Would’ve worked ten years ago, but not so much today.

I’ll give it a few more weeks, but I can’t even guarentee I’ll watch it live. It may be recorded and watched later.

I too liked the fake Scot with an Irish accent, and the Canafian scientist/engineer. But it’s hard to do much with them, especialy when the rest of the cast seems even more one demensional.

I like the idea of having a single menu. And I would agree that the site needs a facelift.

The javascript is nice, so long as it doesn’t crash the browser.

In the past you talked about having a pop-up menu. I really don’t care for this idea. Chances are pop-up blockers will 86 it before it has a chance to load. And for many others it’ll just be a big inconvience.

I’d like to see the quote generator at the top of the page, in a corner, but then again I’d like to see lots of things at the top of the page…

My only real request is to leave in the tabs for all the guides. That was the big selling point for when I firs arrived here, seeing all the variety. Although we are starting to have the “good problem” of too many guides. I use a small monitor and I can barely fit all the tabs into one window.

This asks the question of should we remove some tabs?

Battlestar Galactica, Dune, Hitch Hikers, and Tripping are complete guides. However all of these are short series, and contain a small number of reviews, except for TTR.

The following guides are over 50% but less then 100% complete:
    Aeon Flux
    Crusade
    Firefly
    Futurama
    LEXX
    Red Dwarf

Some of are longer running shows, and are only a few episode reviews short of a complete guide.

    The following is 25%-50% complete:
    Andromeda
    Babylon 5
    Farscape

B5 is only 40% done, but it has more reviews then most of the other guides!

The following are less then 25% complete:
    Buffy s7
    The Prisoner
    Nowhere Man

So if we were to hypothetically remove tabs, would we base it on number of reviews, percent complete, popularity on the site?

Easier said then done. It’s easy to swap pics, but the problem is that the picture is requested somewhere else on the site. And with 750 pages of content, it can be difficult to track down.

Now that the guide is 50% complete I’ve added the Futurama tab to the the left side of the page. I’ve also rearranged (yet again) the order of the tabs. This time I did is alphabetically, like the forums, except for BSG and B5, because it only seemed logical to have B5 and Crusade next to each other.

Also what does everyone think about a Futurama forum. Should we make a new forum to go along with the guide, or just leave Futurama discussions in the general scifi forum?

Well I don’t want to write too much because I’ve been preparing a season 1 review and I don’t want to sound redundant, in a few days.

The season greatly improved toward the end. With some of the seasons finest episodes being 11,12 and to lesser extent 13. (Emasculating Chode, Love Conquers All, Android Love) It’s my understanding that Sci Fi Channel didn’t have to send back any nasty comments about these episodes.

It takes a while for any series to fall into place. Looking back, Futurama Season 1, wasn’t very good compared with later seasons. The same could be said for most any series and/or cartoon.

If I had to pick the five best (in no particular order):

1 God is Our Pilot

5 Totally Recalled

9 Nature Vs Nurture

11 Emasculating Chode

12 Love Conquers All…Almost

13 Android Love could replace 9 Nature vs. Nurture
    [/list:u]

Some episodes worked better then others, and there are a lot of mixed opinions. Miss Galaxy 5000 is very popular but I personally didn’t think it was that great. Totally Recalled was wonderful, IMO but most people I’ve talked with only thought that it was “feh”.

As for TVTome, not to insult any lurkers out there, but I wouldn’t put much faith in their polls. Most people on that site can’t even vote yet, so their outlook will differ greatly from other age demographics.

Sexecutioner, is playing games with pictures again. This time he found one for explicit use on bboards. (hosted on another server with permissions etc). But it had inappropriate language, and I’m tired of waiting for him to really slip up, so I gave him a one week ban today.

Part of me thinks that a policy of nixing obvious trolls early on is a good thing to avoid future aggravation. But we do lose out on the commotion they cause, and the clever ways they try to break the rules, as evidenced by Bonnee Fatguy (to a lesser extent) and now Sexecutioner.

It was one of the better Trek episodes. Even though the ending didn’t fit with the rest of episode, story, season arc…

Even though this last season was tedious at times, it was good enough to arouse my interests and get me watching the show again. Pretty good since I try to limit my TV watching to under 5 hrs/wk. Most of the “stray” episodes fit nicely into overall arc by the end.IT was cool to see everything fall into place, for a change.

I’d seriously like to see Mistress Pain as a regular, and as a replacement for T’Nuk. Some new repeating characters would be cool, in the like of Adam, Bobo (of course) and Babette. I’m not sure it would be wise to add another principle character though. They haven’t done much with Whip and Bob. T’Nuk still has yet to develope much, she’s too predictable. Gus has had some (albeit minor) growth. But most of the series is dedicated to Chode and Six. The writers should focus more on the current bunch before adding another.

But either way, hell yeah, more Venetians! Any way they can be thrown in!

Like the other two post-maya mods I’m going to abstain. Had this been discussed pre-ban I would have said let her stay. But its obvious now form the recent actions of her and her minions that it’s better that she not be here. Another ban would have been inevitable down the line, and we’d be going though the same shit then as we are now. Better to get it out of the way.

And I’d like to add that I am honestly in awe of Maya. Based on her accusations and half-assed assumptions at scifi.com/lexx I doubt she has the reasoning ability to replace a light bulb. For the life of me I can’t fathom how she can even type out her quasi-cognisant arguments with that little brain power. Seriously Logan made it damn obvious that I did the ban, and Stromsweeper spelled it out, and yet she just doesn’t get it.

He’s cool looking, but he’s a bit too frumpy for my tastes. He just kind of sits there and moops about not doing anything. So if he were ont he J42, I guess he’d be the un/loader of cargo. 😈

There appears to be truth to both sides of the story. Maya was banned, before I was even a mod!. But it’s unclear if she was ever (publicly) told about it.

It wasn’t as public or obvious as say Gelfing’s or Fatguy’s ban, more initially secret like Bonnee’s.

There was however a post she made as an unregistered user a few months later, her acknowledging knowledge of her banned status publicly. I’m having difficulty finding that post. It’s rather difficult when I can’t remember what the thread was about, nor the approximate date, and I can’t do searches on unregistered users!

Our site does not need that kind of publicity, nor anything else you discuss here.

On May 10th, you edited all your posts in that thread, which read something to the effect of “edited to preserve this forum” or something else noble like that. This has been bugging me for the last few nights, who is Adam 12 a spoof on. I feel like this should be obvious, but I can’t figure it out.

I’d like to see some more Whip and Bob intensive episodes. Those chracters don’t get much play, which is a shame because they becuase they have a lot of potential.

It’s also be cool to see some interaction between Bobo and Adam. We’ve rarely seen those characters together, and the cold war thing is barely ever brought up in the series.

Backstories on the characters would be great too. Why is Whip on the ship and how the fuck is he Chode’s nephew. What did Chode do to Bobo that got him so pissed off. Did Gus always belong to Chode, how did Chode steal Six from Adam?

As LexxLuker pointed out already, there’s a lot of potential for the series as a socail commentary and as a scifi spoof show. I’d like to see more Emasculating Chode and Totally Recalled and less Power to the Peephole and Mutilation Ball. Episodes like Love Conquers, and God is our Pilot, which are social satire with plenty of scifi references thrown in work great too. But this is just my opinion. I’d like to see a spoof of sci fi fanaticism. There’s more then enough material to work with.
I wouldn’t even mind seeing an “epic” arc or two thrown in here and there. I’ve never seen a show spoof epic arcs like B5, LEXX, Farscape, et al. They all try to keep it all self-contained in a 30 minute episode.
That would just be fucking great!
Well, I liked parts of Reboot, but Im glad to see the show at least got to have a final episode, unlike 90% of all shows.
That would have been nice, but the fourth season ended very open, much like the Angel finale. But I think that one day it will be concluded. I don’t think Mainframe will let that series die so easily.
Well, I gotta admit the Sex Slave 1 is pretty clever/funny, except it dosnt make much sense being that its a bounty hunter’s ship, unless he only went after sex slaves which he does in the ep he was in, so it makes sense in the context of that episode, but if the bounty hunters name is boba fett/bobafett thats not really funny unless its pronounced diffriently, like bob-a-fett, or you could even do Bob Ala Fett, said slowly sounds like some type of fancy meal, said quickly sounds like some funny foreign name.
The bounty hunter’s name is Francis Bobafett the 3rd. This was stated during the episode. But the name on his Galactic publishers cheque is Francis Dinkleman. Go figure…

Boba Fett’s ship in Star Wars is called the Slave 1. I just played off that and called it the Sex Slave 1.

I don’t have a problem with it in principle. I’ve warned him multiple times about taking threads off topic. Has he ever posted anything sci fi related?!

I would like to start a pool though. I bet that he’ll notice it and make a post about it by tommorrow evening. Within two complaint posts, he’ll demand that his “words” be sent to him for his purposes and records. We will see his minions/clones supoprt him by Tuesday night, wednesday midday. And his signature will be changed to reflect his angst by Wednesday night.
Anyone else want to make bets?

And I swear if he brings up that his Iraqi Photos thread is gone, I will ban his ass from even loading the site. But I seriously doubt he has the chutpah to bring that up.
Well, it looks fine in 2D animation but Ive never really seen it look good in 3D
Personally, whenever I think animated kissing, the first thing that comes to mind is the Daria and Tom kiss, in Tom’s car (TV show Daria). It seemed like they were doing south park style contruction paper animation for that scene. 😉
basicly every other 3D animated show Ive seen, like Reboot, Beast Wars, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, etc, etc, except almost every 3D animated show thats been on the air has been done by Mainframe, who despite all their experience arent very good,
Hey watch it there. In case the avatar wasn’t obvious enough, I happen to be a big Reboot fan. 8)
or rather I should say TTR moves and looks alot better then all their shows did/do,
But I completely agree with you there.
Although I have another question, when a character or ship’s name isnt stated in the show, how do/would you find out the name?
I ask someone who works on the show. But some things don’t have names, like Chode’s or T’Nuk’s race, yet.

In the case of the Sex Slave 1, I don’t know if that’s the name, I made it up becuase its funny. I doubt it officially is, since its way too close to Slave 1. Lucas loves to sue, and Cinegroup renamed the Free Enterprise becuase it was too close to Enterprise. But for the SadGuide, in which reviews are supposed to be humourous, the Sex Slave 1 is a perfect name. If its something else I’ll change it when I find out. It’s not a major ship so the name is sorta arbitrary.
Honestly though, I have to say Im hoping to see more TTR fansites. This one is fine/great, but its part of the Sad Geezer format, or is a subpage of teh Sad Geezer site, ie I wanna see like a really indepth TTR site, not really much diffrient content then whats on here (almost basicly all the exact same content) just a diffrient format/set up (no disrepect to this site, which I like)
You aren’t the only one. I’m very surprised this is the only fan site around. Unless you include TvTome and imdb.com. The problem with dedicated sites like gotfuturama.com and fireflyfans.net (both of which had minor influences on the Tripping guide) is that they have all sorts of information on the show, but its not very detailed. In other words they’ll have as much written up about Chode as they would the Lux Davidians, which would only be about a sentence or two.
Most people don’t realize how much work goes into a website. The last two episodes will take me about 4 hours to write up and format. Hence why I haven’t done it yet. Characters, cultures and ships are easier at 20-30 min each. But it’s still a long time.

    Welcome to the site!
I also noticed the stripper on before Ten (the cop) was one of the backround chars in God Is Our Pilot.
Characters are repeated quite often, and in the oddest places. This is done to save money and time on the animation, but it makes rewatching episodes funnier and more enjoyable. The majordomo from Nature vs Nurture was on that time flight too. Another example are the Hell Lesbians; Bernice, Kitty, Penelope, Kathy (gimp chode alien’s wife) and Candy. The Osbourne kids show up a lot. There’s lots of examples.
I couldnt understand why until I saw Six and Ten kiss, cause it looked awkward, almost like trying to make a Barbie and Ken kiss, maybe they just havnt been able to make that interaction between characters work or look good yet which is why I figure its lack of being there.
When has animated kissing ever not looked awkward?
Headgehog do you plan on doing reviews for all/most of the supporting cast characters? (even though most are only in one ep, hopefully some of them will pop up again in the second season though)
Originally I intended to do only characters I expected to show up again. And occasionally some reviews that made for some great jokes. I still think the godfreaks and god, were the best reviews I’ve done for the TTR guide. I never expected to see those guys again. Eventually I decided to just do a review for any principle player or culture, just for the sake of doing a review. Some worked, some didn’t. I’m not proud of many of the character/culture reviews since Power to the Peephole. I’m most disappointed with the peaceniks. I rushed it and it’s not as funny as it could be.

I have the following people reviews planned; Spankey, Bernice, Ten, Lady of Pain (no not planescape), Bobafett, Adam 12, Angel
Ships: Surrender Dorothy, Sex Slave 1
    Cultures: Sex Slaves

    I’m willing to take requests.
Well when I first saw him he looked alot like Owen Wilson,

possibly he is a parody of Ken (of Barbie & Ken) I mean he does kinda have that look to him, he is a “doll” sorts (refering to him being an android) and his name is only one letter away from Ken.
He does have an Owen Wilson look to him. But I really like the Ken theory. Makes a lot of sense.
So who’s up for seeing Adam get his index finger grinded by Six’s vagina? What about Six and T’Nuk making out? Anyone?
You have to ask?
I also liked Chodes “Sci-Fi’ commercial. Animation affords so much more variety than the old: “This is Sci-Fi” bit.
Is that the promo that’s a play on the Direct TV ads. If so, I’m getting rather peeved that I haven’t seen that one yet!

But if it’s the one where Six is reading VIBErator magazine, and Chode is tearing up the FCC regs, yeah that’s definitely a good one.
“No holes barred” is a great quote as well
That was cool. I think Candy was a play off of that equally skanky and ugly woman from the Comedy Central series, Strangers with Candy.
But Headgehog’s sex slave favourite of the night award goes to Mistress of Pain. She is so getting a character review. I can’t pass up on that many jokes!

I feel like Ten is a parody on somebody, does anyone have any ideas?
Nice charactor reviews, but I feel you have missed Galen’s essential charactor with your “if you met him in a pub” description. IMO, it should read,

“If you were to see Galen in a pub, he would be the one sitting in a corner, people-watching. If you asked him how he was doing, he would reply “suprisingly well, considering the circumstances” and then go on “and you are remarkably cheerful, considering what is about to happen to you!”
Nice one! I can add it to the review if you’d like.

I normally use the pub paragraph to sneak in some good and/or cheap jokes about the character. Occasionally I use it to offer insights. But in Galen’s case, I was purposefully going for something demeaning, without being too evil. you should have seen some of my rough drafts… those would have gotten some hate mail

I think we need to put all this in perspective. Most of these submissions are done by first timers. None of us turned out a masterpeice our first time. We only have standards now because we’ve figured out what does and does not work over the last 100 news articles.

Now that we know what the formatt should be, it would be wise too write it all down to let the new guys know. I’d like to volunteer NOT to write that up. 😉 No seriously, I don’t want to write that up, feels too much like a ENGL219 Tech Writing assignment. I promised myself that I’d never use anything I “learned” in that class, and I intend to keep that promise.
or I compose them in Outlook and it shows all sorts of commands which I have to manually edit out.
OE gives you XML?! I use it religiously for my news articles and reviews exclusivley becuase I can spell check it and not get the XML nonsense.
But it’s no big deal and including the rules on the Submit News page would probably be more trouble than it’s worth.
Yes and no. It won’t be too nessceary for the few articles that we get from one time news submitters, but a guideline would be good for the less experienced reporters/mods.
We don’t need a new forum. I think the “discussion forum help” will suffice for a more public discussion on news article submissions.

It figures that it’d “end” as soon as I started watching. I first watched Angel a couple months ago with “Why We Fight”. I’m a sucker for sub stories And smile time, definitely hooked me. I’ve been watching the previous season episodes on TNT, so I’ve caught up on about a season and a half and I can say that Angel is easily twice as better as Buffy tVB. It’s really a shame that the ending was left so (censored) open. I’m really sorry to see the saga end.

I would agree that Badger doesn’t want unnecessary Alliance attention, but I still wouldn’t trust him. He’s backed out on a deal before (Pilot) and held Jayne and Mal at gunpoint just to offer them a job. There might be honour amongst thieves, but some thieves have more honour then others. Mal wouldn’t sell out his business partners (just on principle that they would continue screwing over the Alliance if he didn’t rat them out), but Badger seems like he just might if pressed.

Personally I could see Badger using a proxy or intermediary to sell out the Serenity. Just like how he used them as an intermediary in Shindig.
