Participant

What is this crazy frog???
From what you guys have posted, I guess it’s best that I have not heard the tune/ jingle.
Noo! It’s great! The main tune is actually based on an older song of Axel f – Harold. It’s an OST of some movie.
Anyway even if you won’t like it, you must experience all u can. Meaning you should hear the song just to know it :)
No, its not great, its mindless and repetitive, and while you may “have to hear it once” (which I doubt) that does not mean I want to hear it everywhere I go!

ParticipantAs a further point to my earlier comment, I was rewatching Children of Dune last night and minutes before the “fat baron himself” reappears, Alia lectures Leto and Ghanima (about Jessica) that:
“Enemies often come disguised as Angels”What does Harkonnen appear as … that’s right, an Angel! So Alia’s only crime is the crime of failing to learn her own lessons. Does this make her more or less of a villain? does it excuse her from what she does? will I ever fall asleep? We may never know!
Participant
I noticed that it contained no agressive melodies/texts or something that suggests agression
Except possibly hunting down and killing its creator, that sorta suggests a large amount of aggression to me. 😈 😈 😈

Participant
…… good grief I could go on and on, that film was such a load of bollocks!
True, but the Darth Vader “NOOO” sequence just wins the award, for most comedic sequence in an un-funny film.
MuadDib
ParticipantWhoa! very scary, did I dream that there were five posts to here last time I checked? 😕 😕
MuadDib
ParticipantThanks for the tip, i’ll try that out.
MuadDib
ParticipantThanks to everyone for the support, I think it went ok and I haven’t got another until tuesday (yay more English and this time its Thomas Hardy Woot!) so I’ll try and relax myself before then.

ParticipantI think in the end we’re probably going to realise that this is one of those discussions that can do one of two things:
1.) Carry on perptually with everyone giving their piece then others detracting and adding to those pieces, until nobody remembers what was originally being discussed (sounds like a lot of government commitees doesn’t it? :D),
2.) Or everyone will agree to disagree, and the discussion will fall silent for a while until someone necroposts to it and the whole viscious cycle starts again,

ParticipantDon’t forget the ancient weapon used to wipe out the repilcators in season 8 of SG-1, a weapon that can wipe out very single individual of a particular species is pretty impressive, don’t ya think?
MuadDib
Participant
So what about BladeRunner??? Not hard scifi, because replicants aren’t really based on anything we can do yet…
That therefore means that 2001 has to be down graded as well, because we don’t yet have neurotic computers that kill astronauts and expire whilst singing daisy (although that does make a great shutdown sound 😀 ) By the way this isn’t to say that I don’t think that 2001 is a great film, I just think we have to be careful where we draw the lines between:
Hard Sci-fi > Space Opera > Low Scifi > Toilet paper.

ParticipantC is my favourite language for big programs (> 500 lines) for smaller code I tend to use a lot of perl, of course being a linux and other open source software fan, I tend to have these as my stock languages.

ParticipantIf we’re gonna have the hillbilly tech song, then we’re gonna have this too:
(To the tune of the “Let it Be” by the Beatles)
When I find my code in tons of touble,
Friends and colleages come to me,
Speaking words of wisdom:
“Write in C.”As the deadline fast approaches,
And bugs are all that I can see,
Somewhere, someone whispers:
“Write in C.”Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, oh, write in C.
LISP is dead and buried,
Write in C.I used to write a lot of FORTRAN,
For science it worked flawlessly.
Try using it for graphics!
Write in C.If you’ve just spent nearly 30 hours
Debugging some assembly,
Soon you will be glad to
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, yeah, write in C.
Only wimps use BASIC.
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, oh, write in C.
Pascal won’t quite cut it.
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, yeah, write in C.
Don’t even mention COBOL.
Write in C.And when the screen is fuzzy,
And the editor is bugging me.
I’m sick of ones and zeros,
Write in C.A thousand people sware that T.P.
Seven is the one for me.
I hate the word PROCEDURE,
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, yeah, write in C.
PL1 is ’80s,
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, yeah, write in C.
The government loves ADA,
Write in C.Write in C, write in C,
Write in C, yeah, write in C.
Java’s not quite there yet,
Write in C.MuadDib
ParticipantAll I can say is thank the *Insert name of appropriate deity* that the site is back up, everyone in my college library thought I was mad when I suddenlky screamed out “NOOO!!!!” when I couldn’t connect. (NB: They thought a relative had died or I had gone bankrupt or something)

ParticipantThe Black Hole was bad truly truly bad, it is my opinion that all copies should be hunted down and slaughtered in an orgy of magnetic tape and DVDs.
Also The remake of The Time Machine, I mean what the hell was that?
And finally, I liked 2001, but 2010 was a little bit too preachy for me, but the bits with HAL were cool!
MuadDib
Participant
turned it off and returned the rental.
.
Have you ever seen what happens when you put a DVD in the microwave? It really is quite informative.

Participant
2 words:

ParticipantWhen gardening, you have to stop every ten minutes because of “worm sign”
When a friend asks what the secret is to a delicious recipe you prepare, and your answer is: “The Spice Must Flow!!!”
MuadDib
ParticipantI agree, it really is an awful thing to look at when you head into the Sci fi section of a book store.
MuadDib
ParticipantIt has to be the incredibles, the show was funny, it was new, it made me laugh,
I know I’ll probably be ritually slaughtered by some people for this, but I don’t think that Shrek I or Shrek II were that good. So I’ll be gutted if Shrek II wins.

ParticipantI think anybody who has read Dune, has uttered the litany against fear at some point, I know I have,
But while meandering on the net last night, I also came across an interesting version of the Piter DeVries mantra from Lynch’s Dune, you know the “It is by will alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the juice of Saphos the thoughts acquire speed, lips acquire stain, so stains become a warning, it is by will alone I set my mind in motion.”, this version read:
“It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by beans of java that thoughts acquire speed, hands acquire shakes, so shakes become a warning, it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion…. I….AM….IN….CONTROL….OF….MY….ADDICTION!”

ParticipantCool I’m Arthur C. Clarke
Well known for nonfiction science writing and for early promotion of the effort toward space travel, his fiction was often grand and visionary.

ParticipantAny ideas on that petition, anybody? I really would like to sign it!
MuadDib
Participantgood point kai, it is kind of ridiculous:
“Sir we’ve got motherships coming at us from all angles!”
“Ok hit’em with everything we’ve got.”
“Including those really fancy high energy weapons the Asgard gave us sir?”
“No, forget those, just fire a couple of stingers at them!”MuadDib
ParticipantWell as much as we can speculate, I think the only way we’re going to find out is if the writers get theirr fingers out and come up with some better plotlines. It’s beginning to look more like a sitcom with intergalactic travel involved. This isn’t to say that i’m not an SG-1 fan, I am but I can’t stand it when a show reaches a certain point and the writers decide that they can let plot lines slide, GAHHHH I’M REALLY ANNOYED NOW!!!!! 👿 👿 👿 👿
MuadDib
ParticipantMy personal view is that chevron 9 is to access “special functions” on the other eight chevrons, kind of like pressing “ctrl”, “alt” or “shift” on a keyboard.
MuadDib
Participantwhere is the petition? I would like to add my name to it, and if that doesn’t improve things, well I have methods that are quite effective 😈 😈 😈

ParticipantPersonally I think that Alia is in many ways a heroic villain (and yes I can here the groans from people who think I’ve side stepped the question), in many ways I think her only real mistake is listening to the baron. He’s Harkonnen (yes I know she technically is too) they’re renowned for treachery and betrayal, and to suddenly have one help the offspring of his most bitter enemy, Alia should have realised this was to good to be true.

ParticipantI agree with the harkonnen pronounciation issue, but definently think that the mini-series was damn good, especially the worms they looked exactly like I thought they would, there was only disapointment, the ornithopters, at the end of Dune, Herbert describes a ‘thopter as:
ORNITHOPTER: (typically ‘thopter) any aircraft capable of sustained wing-beat flight in the manner of birds.
The mini-series craft weren’t exactly bird-like were they?
But overall damn good.MuadDib
