I hadn’t heard of Nightfire, either, but of course I may have to have Mr. Pet try it out now. πŸ˜‰

Part of the reason he may not look quite right in some shots is that its a skin, not a 3D mod. His face is actually just 2D from a bunch of different angles, not built up 3D like Flamegrape’s Xev was.

As for the gun, if he was really Drake he’d be throwing tables instead. πŸ˜†

    Spoiler-free:

I loved it right up until that last 1/2 hour of corn. I think for the sake of our bladders that could have been cut down and added to the extended DVD.

Like the others, the battles were breathtaking. Too much crying in between for my taste, but some people go for that so I didn’t really find it bothersome….

but I expected to see “The End” about 4 or 5 times before it finally came up. I wasn’t the only one in the theatre to think so. People kept nearly standing, then sitting, then nearly standing, then sitting. The kid behind me actually said, “Is this the real end now?”

A few people, including Mr. Pet, muttered “Mr. Anderson” quite a bit during Mr Smith’s scenes, but it didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the movie.

I’ll have to buy the extended DVD to match the others, but I can’t imagine what he could have left out besides some action bits mentioned above, so I don’t know how to vote! πŸ˜•

The previous last episode of Farscape. It gave a whole new Shakespearean twist to the entire series if you prefer “neutralize” meaning “kill”. Then, it’s not really the end now, so I dunno.

It all comes back to people who liked Das Boot, and people who felt cheated. Would you make the same choices if you knew how your own story ends?

    I have kind of a dark side…

Obi Wan’s “death” made a great impression on me as a kid.

Welcome to Sad’s, Vandevere, glad you asked!

They are from The Gypsy and the Gentleman, 1957 or 1958 depending on the source. McGoohan plays a rake named Jess. My service provider hasn’t been doing well with streaming video lately, but if it’s working and you follow the link there are 2 rare kissing scenes and one really cool horse trick in which McGoohan mounts a horse from a standing jump…. not the usual leapfrog move, or bouncing up while the horse is running. He just swings right up no stirrups or saddle.

There is a better kissing scene in High Tide at Noon, but it’s too dark to get a good picture. The clip made the top ten downloads, though.

    Translation for Fatguy:

It’s “Thanksgiving” week in the United States here. You know the holiday where we celebrate our conquering of other Nations by eating babies and sacrificing kittens to the god Spathiwa.

Oddly enough they even close down the school system and most workplaces for this. Many State and Federal workers get a 4 day paid holiday, a nice break from being whipped while pumping the bellows for the rest of the U.S.

Then as a finale, most families gather together and after stuffing themselves silly, they hang lights and decorations; each individual light symbolic for a person they want to piss off this coming year. Then the adults tuck the wee ones into bed and we get *&^%-faced drunk while watching American Football and old John Wayne movies in our ceremonial wear: Cowboy Hats and Boots. Then as the moon hits it’s zenith, we strip naked and go outside and howl at the sky.

I’d figure your website had covered this by now!

Really? That’s odd… out here in the Dakotas its the adults who get into bed after sending the wee ones out to drink and drive and collect cans to make meth to sell for Christmas cash. But we do shag with John Wayne collectible plates watching over us.

With our boots on, of course, screaming out “Don’t tread on me!”. We are already naked for the ritual howl to Spathiwa, but they spell it “Spathoowa” here. (The school system ranks last in the nation.)

You should have seen how we did it when I lived in NY! Good times!

I’m afraid moving on to other comparable products will cost me nearly $800. I’m not spending that on a hobby, and I don’t steal software, so it’s either fix it or forget it.

I’m in an endless loop of what they call “swinging” in tech support terms… when they don’t know and formatting doesn’t work, they “swing” you to another company. “Must be a problem with XP, must be a conflict with Pinnacle”, blah blah, AOL has even been known to tell people they have too much memory to get them off the phone and reduce their call times.

Back to the subject at hand… one thing I noticed about the Kirby comic, Number 6 would not be caught dead in a jacket that wrinkled!

BTW, FYI, this is the Prisoner comic assigned to Jack Kirby and cancelled by Marvel twice. The first issue was fully drawn, but the project was pulled part of the way through the inking and before there was any color added.

..and what does this suggest about the current state of sci-fi? i know that’s a subject that’s cropped up before, but i think we really need to keep on it. hopefully the powers-that-be will take notice of us fans eventually…..

No Sci-Fi here, but my favorite TV character to this day is the main character of Profit, which was “critically acclaimed”, “daring”, and “destined to change the way we look at television dramas” according to the ads. The head of Fox even called it the most disappointing cancellation he ever had to make. (Had to?)

Jim Profit was a corporate ladder-climber who could out-evil the Devil. His father raised him naked in a cardboard box with a hole cut out so he could watch TV, so all of his moral background was based on TV, (reminded me of John Savage’s morality all being based on Shakespeare in Brave New World).

Every episode he would frame somebody for something. He would be about to be caught and out of nowhere there would be a completely reasonable explanation that made it look like he was the victim of a witch hunt. Oh, and he was sleeping with his stepmother (widowed by him) and encouraging her heroin habit.

Anyway, people with Neilsen boxes couldn’t bring themselves to watch a show from the bad guy’s point of view, and advertisers were squeamish, so there it went. We didn’t even get the last 4 eps over here until 2002, but I missed them.

BTW, as an adult, he couldn’t stand TV.

    GVSE
was another one “critically acclaimed”, mostly for its cinematography and attempted revival of the split screen which 24 then picked up on. (Not saying they “stole” it from GVSE, just coincidence.) 24 is critically acclaimed, though, and they’re still on.

What about shows that get cancelled and then win Emmys? Is that critical acclaim?

This is exactly why I stopped watching TV. They can’t cancel DVD’s.

I wish I knew where I read this. It was a link from a rant about Firefly or Farscape. But anyway, from what I understand, Neilsen’s “random households” only includes the households of people who have lived at the same residence for over 3 years, which rules out college and graduate students, young professionals, urban areas with a high rental turnover, rural areas being accosted by corporate farms, etc. etc. etc.

Someone did the math on another board and it was the realisation that one of the F’s (think it was Farscape) was cancelled because 5 or 7 people out of 300 million didn’t watch it (don’t remember exactly, less than ten, though), combined with the general attitude of advertisers who pressure producers into changing Sci-Fi shows that are appealing to the “wrong” audience (Stargate is supposed to appeal to 18-24 year old men, not 24-35 year old women, or whatever, remember Tok’ra Barbie?) that pushed me completely over the edge. That and those GD promos that ruin the bottom of the screen during the shows.

Neilsen and the advertisers have made it perfectly clear that my opinion doesn’t matter. It’s very easy to ignore someone who is ignoring me, so bye-bye TV. Be Seeing You… not!

I still fail to see how threatening to murder migrant workers and temps on Scare Tactics could in any way more entertaining than Farscape. I haven’t seen it, so I can only judge by what I hear, and what I hear is a bunch of producers are taking advantage of people with low incomes. How exactly is this better than paying homeless people to fight on tape? Because it’s on a Network?

Anyhoo, I doubt I’ll ever be writing again to save another show, as I don’t plan on seeing any of them until they are over. I’ve had enough.

    Rant over. Going to bed.

Personally, as I think everything but the final drive is a subconscious argument, I think Number 1 is John Drake’s insecurities (after likely attending the funeral of a fellow Danger Man) trying to give him numberous reasons not to resign. After expelling that side of himself (though 1 escapes the rocket to return again some other day), he decides to go for it.

I think it’s clear from the empty orbit that Number 1 meant to shoot Number 6 into space and take over, but it didn’t happen that way.

In all seriousness, most of the time I think the Prisoner is Season 5 of Danger Man, though most of the time I think it’s taking place on the battleground of Drake’s subconscious while he ponders resigning. I think the only real part is when he’s driving at the end of Fall Out, presumably to go resign.

Then again, I’m one of the rare people who thinks Brand all takes place inside Brand’s head, The Trial all takes place inside K.’s head, The Minister’s Black Veil takes place inside the minister’s head, etc.

People with charisma are often egotistical nutballs. πŸ˜‰ That’s why they are such fun to watch!

Drake lives in London in flat number 6, but I’m not sure where. He drives a custom Lotus in the Danger Man novel No Way Out, in which he is sent to retrieve a friend who faked his death because his request to resign and/or marry was denied.

…and I love DVD’s, too! Now I never have to watch TV again! πŸ˜€ I can see how PMcG got sick of Drake, now, with the way some of the later episodes are just expansions of Season one episodes.

I, too, would love to hear what Ralph Smart had to say. I bet it was full of four-letter-words. 😈

At any rate, the guy you see at the party in A,B and C couldn’t be more John Drake. Since it’s supposed to represent how Number 6 would have really acted in that situation, that’s probably his true personality when not imprisoned. And the guy you see in Someone is Liable to Get Hurt couldn’t be more Number 6; that’s probably Drake’s true personality when he feels trapped, even if it is in a mansion.

I always think Hammer into Anvil is very Drake, almost as if Number 6 is relaxing and his usual methods are coming out.

I have noticed that Number 6 seems less like Drake when I just watch the miniseries. Hmmmm…..

There’s no real question Drake was the template (good word!) for Number 6; that’s been confirmed on a number of fronts. I also think there wouldn’t be near the interest if there wasn’t so much evidence it was actually season 5 of Danger Man. If he felt it necessary to nix minute details like private jokes about character names in The Girl Who Was Death (O’Toole), he would have done it for the Danger Man clues as well if he hadn’t wanted people to speculate. He did have the rare luxury of complete creative control.

Happy to help out. Eeeh, just tell me where and how. πŸ™‚ btw, REALLY impressed with your site. Good stuff.

Thanks, 241! I’ve just begun a section on Nowhere Man as well. πŸ™‚ Lots of Prisoner vibes in that, but not as much wit. It was intriguing that when Veil “Arrives” he leaves the restaurant to make a phone call, which won’t connect, then takes a ride in a taxi. That cracked me up!

*83 drools at list* Much more comprehensive than mine! Well Done! Yowza! πŸ˜€

I can help you there (having had much experience in the past week).

You can just click here to go directly to the upload area. Choose “Prisoner” from the drop down list. Then name, describe and upload. You can hit the “back” button once uploads are complete so you don’t have to fill everything in again.

The longer way, where you can actually see where the pictures are going, is to click on the Sci-fi Downloads link under the Sadgeezer header, then click The Prisoner, then Submit Media.

Then in a few hours some nice moderator-type person makes them accessible. Number 5 would like them organised by category until he gets the categories put together. (I don’t think anyone expected so many pictures.)

For example, this is being used in the “Science” guide, so the media name field reads Science: Truth Test:

If you’re putting up Numbers, it would be easiest to put Numbers: title, or Non-Numbers: title.

My temp Numbers list and the way the Science guide is going are here for now. As the pieces go up here, they go down there. Feel free to take a peek, but I think your numbers list is much better. We could put it together to link to each image in the download area for the big list. (With copyright to you, of course.) That would be sweet! πŸ™‚

BTW: I got Googled! If you put in anything related to Patrick McGoohan and “clips”, I come out on top! At least one person a day is looking for that Simpsons clip, and a few for Danger man (probably related to the DVD release).

Today I think yes, for the same reason above that PMcG is the only person to say otherwise, and it would be expensive for him to change his mind now.

Also, the Haitian Observer from Schizoid Man was his Haitian contact in Danger Man, Potter appears in The Girl who was Death, The Hunting Party features the same method of hypnosis, Colony Three of course…. there’s so much to play with.

Besides its much more fun that way. Even if his name is supposed to be Daniel Webster in the movie… 😈 clearly a code name, right?

You would think there’d be a more interesting place to create havoc than at a fan site. What a strange choice. πŸ˜•

I would say Spanish, too. Spanish-speaking people cover a pretty large part of the globe. That’s a big target audience. It would probably have to be a Castillian based translator so the most people could at least understand it. Most Latin American and Carribean countries have different kinds of Spanish, kind of the same way English gets mixed up town-to-town.

My husband’s family says they speak “Spanglish”, but you probably can’t find a translator for that. πŸ˜›

I would also suggest perhaps Klingon and Mimbari? 😈 j/k

IMHO, I don’t think you have to be American to post in this thread….

Anyhoo, I had just been up all day, then up all night working, then had 1 hour’s sleep. Mr. Pet woke me up to tell me what happened while he was getting ready for work. I thought he was watching Die Hard, so I went back to sleep.

I am not saying that to belittle the situation. He often wakes me up to tell me things about chaos theory or photoplankton which pop into his head while watching movies. I am an insomniac and a lucid dreamer, so most of the time I’m not really sleeping. I was really sleeping that day, though, and since I quite seriously had no reason to think he hadn’t been watching that Die Hard movie that took place at the airport, I didn’t find out it was real until I got up a few hours later. It was all very surreal.
