I’m dead serious (imagine me as Kai saying that line ). “Lexx” is a good series, with original plot and artistic consepts that make it more than just a “Star Trek” knockoff, but it has its bad points.

There seems to be a disregard for life and a lack of morality behind the actions of our heroes (“Stan’s Trial” is a great exception, though).

A more visible problem is sexual obscenity. There are all-too-prevalent themes such as women being objects existing only to please men, and sex as the driving force in people’s lives.

Thankfully, the censors at the Sci-Fi Channel excise some of the more offensive visual material, but there are often too lenient and awful scenes slip through the cracks.

“Lexx” needs to tone down these things in future seasons, because it bothers the fans and drives would-be fans away from the show. It should be reduced to a “Star Trek,” “Doctor Who,” or “X-Files” (though that has been getting a little too “colorful,” lately ) level of violence and sexual explicitness. For its sake as well as ours.

I don’t understand why people are attacking me for this, I’m not trying to make anyone mad, just asking for a little decency.

In the epochal episode “Into the Fire” we see a bunch of different weird ships in that big war, and we are told they belong to First Ones. What I meant in my initial question was: were all the First One species represented by the ships seen in previous episodes that I just missed? Or did just the Watchers appear and the others recruited when we weren’t looking? Some of those ships are REALLY cool, and I want to know who their pilots are!

In practically every other episode of “Lexx” there are women taking their clothes off, and I don’t think I’m the only one who’s bothered by that. There are scenes and dialog in “Lexx” that are sexist and sinful and shouldn’t be shown on T.V.

I have seven things to say, here:

    1. I don’t think that butterfly had any PHYSICAL meaning. The butterfly is a symbol of rebirth.

    2. There is evidently some confusion over what the Time Prophet said. I have a verbatim transcript of her exact words in the third paragraph of my really long post.

    3. Is it revealed at the end of the third season that Mantrid’s human essence is still alive? I have not seen the rest of the season and have not read about it, but I have been formulating a theory and I was under the impression the person they met in K-Town was not Mantrid, only one of his clones.

    4. From all the speculation, I assume that His Shadow does not appear in the last episode of the third season. I think some people here from Canada or the U.K. have seen the end.

    6. Where people live is on the left side. I assume the aspiring/committed dealie is based on number of posts.

    7. The wheel doth turn.

They came out of nowhere in the Neoproterozoic Period of planet Earth. Nothing on the planet was that complex, that organized, that devoted to the perpetuation of their existence. Their ravaging of the primæval biome brought about the dawn of the Paleozoic Era. For over a hundred thousand millennia they dominated the land, the seas, and the air. Though their reign was ended by the development of prochordates into vertibrate forms, they live on, outnumbering any other phylum of terrestrial life. They are the insects.

But in the Light Zone, the Insects fared much better. Their domination was on an interplanetary scale.
They harnessed the power of nanotechnology to grow to massive sizes and live for thousands of years. The fluid that coursed through their veins was the same proto-blood that reanimated Kai and Yottskry. They could exist outside their chitinous forms, and transfer their essence to new bodies adapted for different tasks. They could bend the very fabric of time-space to find new worlds to subgigate.
But when they opened a fractal core to a new and uncertain universe, they opened Pandora’s box. For a new race existed in the Dark Zone, one equally experienced in space travel and with an even greater lust for conquest: the humans.
Led by a warrior sub-race known as the Brunnen-G, humanity brutally slaughtered the Insect civilization, colonizing their worlds and stealing their technology. When the Great Insect War was over, not a single Insect could be seen traversing the stars.
But one lived on. He had seen his race, his planet, and everything he held dear torn to pieces by the alien race.
    The humans must die.

His Divine Shadow is the only truly menacing villain in the whole of “Lexx,” and everything points to him still being alive. To quote the exact words of the Time Prophet: “As you know, time has a beginning, and an end, and then time begins again, and I have seen that in the future-past the power of the Divine Order will destroy Brunnis-2, but the last Divine Shadow will die at the hands of a Brunnen-G. It has happened before, it will happen again.” The prophecy specifically states that the LAST Divine Shadow will be killed by a Brunnen-G (presumably Kai), so, regardless of what Kai and Stanley and Zev thought in “Lexx 1.1,” and “1.4” it remains unfulfilled. That was NOT the last. Here is a list of the Divine Shadows and their vanquishers:

    His Divine Shadow-Kai
    The Yottskry Shadow-Spontaneously disjointed
    The Giga Shadow-Squish
    The Kai Shadow-Spontaneously disjointed
    The Larval Shadow-Vigo
    The Mantrid Shadow-Zev

So, unless the prophecy is flawed, the last Divine Shadow is something we haven’t seen yet. The essence of His Shadow must have disjointed from Mantrid before Zev crushed the box. Besides, Lex Gigeroff himself said after the end of season 2 that the Insects are not extinct, and it would be a bad move to eliminate the enemy character. The essence is still somewhere, waiting. As I see it, there are three logical possibilities.

    1. The essence stayed in the Light Zone, and in the 4,333 years since its big crunch it has initiated a big bang and now rules a newly created universe.

    2. The essence possessed the Lexx, and is still there gaining strength. Or, the most likely scenerio…

    3. The essence found a host on Fire, and is the unseen King of a new Divine Order on the planet, planning to destroy the Lexx crew before taking over the universe.

The butterfly in “The End of the Universe” is only symbolic. Life goes on.

The wooden stake was the standard tool of torture in 15th century Romania. Prince Vladimir Bassarab “das Dracul” Tepes IV reportedly impaled victims with such implements and drank their blood, and thus the weapon became inextricably linked to the Vampire mythos. Since Bram Stoker, however, it has usually been a weapon AGAINST vampires, rather than of them.

    MY LEXX EPISODE

    “Bugboy”

The Lexx is a big ship. The vast majority of it has never been explored by the people living inside. Zev is exploring a corridor when she comes across another sex of cryogenic pods, one containing a frozen human.

He is revived, and it turns out he was a bio-vizier for the Divine Order, who earned the nickname “Bugboy” for his interest in the ancient Insect civilization. He secretly discovered that His Divine Shadow was a surviving Insect, and joined the Heretics. He was the one who provided them with the amino acid codes for the Lexx. Stanley handed them over to the Sub-Nebuli, so he tried a different approach by getting a copy of the key and giving it to the Heretic we saw in “Lexx 1.1.” Bugboy was in cryostasis on board the Lexx waiting for the Heretics to take it into the Dark Zone, but Thodin and everyone who knew about him was killed by the Cluster Lizards and Kai, so he has been frozen for 4,335 years.

Though Bugboy is most interested in studying the insect technology on the Lexx (he believes another Insect War is inevitable, and wants to understand everything about the species) he has the knowledge to deactivate the nanites in Kai and make him living again, to modify the protein regenerator to grow 790 a new body, knows of several peaceful planets in the Dark Zone, and can pretty much solve everyone’s problems except Zev’s. Since he is younger (not counting the millennia in the ageless limbo of cryofreeze) and more handsome than any of the bio-viziers the Lexx crew has met so far, Zev wants him, but he rejects her.

Still, everyone thinks Bugboy is a godsend (even 790, who is actually nice to him since he’s not competition for his lovely Zev), except for Stan, who thinks he’ll take after the other bio-viziers. Stan becomes obsessed with the idea that Bugboy is secretly trying to take over the Lexx, and when he catches him passing some weird gadget (which looks like the deal Brizon had around his neck) over the Lexx’s skin, he orders Kai to kill him.

It turns out he really did have the best of intentions toward our heroes, and he was not trying to take control of the Lexx with that gadget, which is really just a diagnostic tool. But now he’s dying from the wound Kai’s scorpion hook inflicted on him, and his knowledge is too great and potentially beneficial to die with him. There is a solution, however. Bugboy has a device like the one used in “Lexx 1.1” or the blue Insect organ that can transfer his essence (thoughts, memories, knowledge, etc.) into a new host to live on.

Since Stan feels guilty for his condition, he volunteers to carry the essence until they can find or grow a new body. But Stan can not make a suitable host since he is already host to the key to the Lexx. The after-effects of Kai’s holding the Divine Shadow essence make him similarly impossible to possess, and 790’s brain cube does not have the capacity to hold Bugboy’s essence, either. Zev, as before, wants him inside her body, but he tells her that he will not live inside her unless she allows him to use the new-found control over her brain to erase some of her “quirks” (her accelerated libido, Cluster Lizard aggression, and the memories of every other man she’s had relations with) so she can be his type of woman for when he gets a new body. She will not give him the permission to do this, so her rejects her again. Now, an essence without a host, he decides simply wander to the corridors of the Lexx, continuing his studies of the Insect technology in a disembodied form, waiting for the day when the Lexx will find a planet with a willing and suitable host and he can physically apply his vast knowledge to the benefit of the Lexx crew and the Universe.

The prophecy specifically said “His Divine Shadow will die at the hands of a Brunnen-G.” Zev is 83% B3K and 17% Cluster Lizard, not at all Brunnen-G. So what she did could not have killed His Shadow completely. His essence must still be around somewhere for Kai to destroy permanently. Then, and only then, will the prophecy be fulfilled.

“Lexx” is essentially the same as “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” only with different characters and aliens (Like “Star Trek: Voyager” ).

I don’t know how its budget compares to “Doctor Who.”

Paul Donovan specifically said there will never be any time travel on “Lexx.”

His Divine Shadow lived at least until Zev smashed the essence box, and, unless the prophecy is flawed, he’s still alive.

They said his essence mixed with the Insect essence, and in “Mantrid” you can see two streams of essence curling together. The entity that was confronted in “Norb,” “Brizon,” and “The End of the Universe” was half Divine Shadow half Mantrid.

What “Lexx” needs is less violence, less sex, and more morals.

Mantrid should not appear again in the series.

When the Giga Shadow was destroyed everyone thought it was over (unless you saw the director’s cut :rolleyes , but the essence of His Divine Shadow did not die, it went into Kai. The Kai Shadow found an essence-less larva from the wreckage of the Giga Shadow and takes it to his former bio-vizier, Mantrid. Mantrid tells him how to get the essence into the grub then he shoots the wrist dealie at him and His Shadow’s essence takes the new host. But Manty’s not quite dead, his buddy Vigo sends his arms after the blue organ (which carry’s the essence) of the bug, and uses it to transfer Mantrid’s essence to a big Insect ship along with, of course, His Shadow’s essence and he becomes the Mantrid Shadow and kills Vigo. To make a long story short the Mantrid Shadow gets caught in the collapsing Light Zone and we think he’s dead but then a box containing Mantrid’s (and possibly His Shadow’s) essence shows up and Zev destroys it and Mantrid is quite dead (his clone shows up later, though). So His Shadow’s essence either died in the collapse, died when the box was destroyed, went into Zev, went into the Lexx, or, for the final theory, read my post under “K-Town.”

So, does that clear things up?

His Divine Shadow! I wanted to perform that scene where he discusses the nature in my speech class but my teacher wouldn’t let me. Instead I’m doing part of “Marooned” from “Red Dwarf.”

in reply to: So… What did you think of K-Town? #54213
    DalekTek790

    “I am Mantrid.”

“I am the greatest bio-vizier who ever lived.”

    “I destroyed a universe!”

K-Town was great! It would have been four stars if it weren’t so confusing. It’s like watching “Babylon 5” for the first time with random clips from “The X-Files” cut in. I spent the whole episode wondering “What the hell is going on? Is that…no! Does this qualify as a plot, or just a weird dream?”

Dieter Laser had a stronger performance than any of his previous episodes except maybe “Mantrid,” even though I’m not sure this character was the same as his other one. This one seemed almost…likable. He helped our heroes, he acted totally selfless (he didn’t even know who he was!), and he lost his life saving Kai’s (sort of).

I was right! Kai does have nanites keeping him alive. You knew with a semi-mechanical character as a regular on a show, sooner or later they had to make an episode where he’s broken and needs to be fixed. Still, it would have been nice if he had kept his pants on. When he started to go bonkers, I was all like “‘The wheel doth turn!’ Come on, Kai!” Unfortunately, he collapsed without showing the Brunnen-G’s poet side.

I think I’ve figured out why Schlemmi and Mantrid and Vigo are all back on Fire. Schlemmi was wrong, it’s not just a mistake in time-space, Prince brought them there! That nut used his powers to create quantum singularities to transport the Lexx crew’s enemies 4,332 years into the future into the Dark Zone to fight them again…and this time hopefully win! Mantrid was dead, so he had to settle for a clone. It would only be natural for the mad bio-vizier to make clones of himself, so he would have organs and cells of his own tissue type around to replace his own organs and cells as they died. One wonders how many clones had already died so he could live long enough to meet His Divine Shadow. And Vigo was probably just one of a bunch of clones to be servants for the Divine Order’s biotechnicians. I’m not sure what the deal is with the Downstairs People, but I think Prince ordered them to prevent our heroes from getting to the top of the tower. Prince is a coward, never fighting his own battles. That still doesn’t explain the “not helping” thing, but that could relate to something Prince told them to motivate them against the Lexx crew (“Maybe this is a game.”).

And how come Duke said he would come back when Prince killed him? The only logical explanation is that he exists as an essence that passes from host to host when one human body wears out or dies. Duke is an Insect. Prince probably is, too, and if there is a Queen of Fire so is she. I think we can all figure who the King of Fire is (“…he did not kill me as I live on.”). This whole Fire and Water deal could be just a trap to kill the characters so they do not interfere with the destruction of Earth and the Second Insect Wars.

Some of this or even all is probably revealed at the end of season 3, but don’t tell me if I’m right or wrong if you’ve seen it. I prefer to watch and speculate. Besides, I’m pretty sure I’m right on the nose.

As I said before, it would be a logical move to have the essence of His Divine Shadow in control of the Lexx (I mean, when the Mantrid Shadow was destroyed, where else would it have gone?). The prophecy isn’t fulfilled yet (Zev, not Kai, destroyed the box, and the Ssecond Insect wars still need to happen). Walter Borden should be back, too, even though logically it shouldn’t be his voice (that was the host, now dead).

Also, there should be an episode centered around the Children of Vora and their plague (from “Lexx 1.2: Super Nova”).

Finally, there should be an episode in which someone can make Kai living again (remove the nanites or whatever).

“First One” is not a fixed title. As time goes on, younger and younger races are referred to as “First Ones.” We saw in “The Deconstruction of Falling Stars” that 600,000 years after the Shadow Wars, Humans are called one of the “First Ones.”

Were the Shadows and the Vorlons the only First Ones to guide the development of the younger races, or did others, such as the Watchers of Sigma 957 do the same?

The “Babylon 5” universe is based on real stars (unlike some sci-fi series involving trekking among stars that will remain nameless ), so, provided it adheres to an actual star map, it must be accurate.
