Not for me, since I fought this policy in 2002 and since I am more critical of infringements on our rights and freedoms (I guess that is obvious…..); then I would be the biggest hypocirte to go through with the photographing and fingerprinting this time. In Canada, we have no such concerns about terrorism and so these activities really do not exist and has been used by the U.S.A. as a criticism for being “a staging ground” for terrorism – but that is rhetoric – now for the Con.

I believe that most people in the States live in denial about just how much their privacy and rights have been infringed. It is only when outsiders like myself balk at these new procedures and how they infringe on pleasant activities like Dragon Con…..that the unpleasantness rears it’s head.

Even Britain your ally in Iraq…..has less stringent policies regarding tourism and such…..except when the British travel to the U.S.A.. What follows is a quote from a friend who read this thread:

“Anyone in the UK renewing their passport after Oct 2004 will have to pay an extra £65 for a biometric coded passport to travel to US this only applies to travelling to the US an not any other country also it will mean having to go to the American Embassy for a visa . At the present time to enter the US involves being fingerprinted and having your photo taken at immigration. Also we are being forced because of US policy to have armed Sky Marshals on planes that are going to the US a plane destined for Washingtopn was cancelled on 4 days running while the passenger lists were being checked by US authorities who also want to know about payment details of the tickets bought for this flight . And we are supposed to be the USs closest ally . “

Ok, I deleted the text in the other thread…..sorry. However, the fact remains that I would have driven down to the Con if the border issues were not that bad. Remember, my 71 year old aunt was turned back to Canada due to “security risks” a year or so ago…..so you can guess what would happen to me. It is a valid post for the con…..I believe…..I did not make the policies, but I am bound by them…..and thus the reason I can’t attend.

Ok, I am taking a guess that this is a take off of the movie. If so, the only thing that kept me interested was Judd (I think) running down the street in her panties 😆 – I think they would soon run out of material in a series…..

I am of two minds here….. On one hand I kind of like the idea of this venue being not as corporate as all the others. But on the other hand…..if I were to put myself in your place…..Yes – I would go ahead with a Sadgeezer card (if there is interest); it would be cool to have a card with one’s website on it. I don’t know about multiple cards with individual shows…..but the Sadgeezer one would be interesting.

The site was last updated on the 25 of last month. It does not look like they changed servers, and I for one will not bother the owner about the situation. It only took me one day to change servers a little over a week ago. BTW, they may not even know the site is down…..but you guys will have to do it on your own…..

M.M. gets so much crap thrown his way…..but he might actually be the nicest guy of the bunch. “I” could not care less, sure some of the LEXX cast (B.D. for one) sound like regular guys who love their fans, but remember…..they are regular people.
It’s a major holiday here in the states.

    Translation for Fatguy:

It’s “Thanksgiving” week in the United States here. You know the holiday where we celebrate our conquering of other Nations by eating babies and sacrificing kittens to the god Spathiwa.

Oddly enough they even close down the school system and most workplaces for this. Many State and Federal workers get a 4 day paid holiday, a nice break from being whipped while pumping the bellows for the rest of the U.S.

Then as a finale, most families gather together and after stuffing themselves silly, they hang lights and decorations; each individual light symbolic for a person they want to piss off this coming year. Then the adults tuck the wee ones into bed and we get *&^%-faced drunk while watching American Football and old John Wayne movies in our ceremonial wear: Cowboy Hats and Boots. Then as the moon hits it’s zenith, we strip naked and go outside and howl at the sky.

I’d figure your website had covered this by now!
Well…..some of us are not American….. We had our Thanksgiving last month and I forgot when you guys had yours….. Did you even know that we had Thanksgiving last month? Ok, I am being a bit snippy, but it seems that Americans think their lives and holidays should be common knowledge to all…..but what do you know of others? This is just something that constantly rubs us guys up north the wrong way and hell I’m telling you guys now. Perhaps it is just unconscious on your part, so don’t take it the wrong way. If this post bothers you…..then you will know how we feel…..

Doctor WHo embodies all that is immature. He travels the universe instead of staying put and creating. He has what amounts to almost eternal life and thus does not have the finite of existence to govern what his existence should define. His escapades are superficially exciting yet never amount to much and are repeated over again. His “companions” by contrast, seem to grow up and leave the immature Doctor Who…..

Interesting, how perceptions vary form culture to culture.

Bono was just media attention, our new Prime Minister Paul Martin has had much to do with this initiative to get generic drugs to the Third World. Martin is primarily a business man and until his decision to run for Prime Minister, was the owner of one of the largest shipping companies in the world, he has also held the post of Finance Minister and drawn general praise for his work in turning Canada’s economy around.

You are correct in that I do not fully understand the politics and economies of the drug trade (how many do?); especially at the international level; but it is clear that there are many conflicting views as to how the “drug problem” should be solved.

Bono is a rock star, same age as me….. 😯 We can be misguided at times; but I judge a person on their good intentions more than anything else. His greatest contribution would be to have shed light on the problems of AIDS, etc. on the African continent. I commend him for using his popularity for an unpopular cause, many support frivolous organizations.

The drug industry based it’s R and D on Western profits – not on Africa’s contribution. Therefore, generic drugs do not hurt the drug giants as much as you think. The high cost of drugs in Africa can only mean genocide for a race of people who can not afford to treat diseases that plague them. Some, I imagine, would consider this genocide a good thing…..

I always look at the good in everyone’s heart, and Bono in his own way is doing his part. Why name call him for that. But you are free to further support your argument if you feel I am “not getting it”; I am all ears…..

I hear you Aleck. However, even sci-fi of my era was heavily saturated with Western idealism. A spill over from the space race (anyone old enough to remember that 🙄 ) was sci-fi. Take the original Star Trek, the writers never failed to promote American idealism through it’s scripts. Lost In Space looks positively dated with it’s concentration on the nuclear family and traditional American values. Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea is a third. As I see it, the politics started to leave sci-fi around the mid to late seventies when more international concerns started producing widely distributed sci-fi. Of course, my memory is not what it used to be…..too many cracks on the head from my protests as a young “whipper snapper”.

I have to chuckle at some of the “memories” of the younger ones here…..you are too young to have memories. 😆

If I step back and take a broad overview I can see that my childhood shows always involved guns, death, and mega-tons of Western idealism. War shows (like “Combat”, “Rat Patrol, etc.) were everywhere; plus I was also at the age where I got the tale end of the Cowboy and Indian shows (so racist, our government up here in Canada places restrictions on it’s airing).

If you look at the type of cultural saturation we kids got in the Cold War…..then it is easy to see why a guy like me constantly prattles about freedoms and rights. If you look at who tolerates this or endorses it at this board, you will see it is the older crowd that was also brought up on this programing on T.V. (not just T.V. but also in the schools, etc.). The younger kids here actually get very annoyed when I go there, and probably find it irrelevant, a sign of the environment they were brought up in. Another point I should bring up, is that the younger crowd seems to have been pacified by the “nerf ball” environment of recent history. Over here in Gay rights, you will see that it is still the baby boomers who protest while the younger crowd stays away. This is a recurring problem and I think this has been deliberately bred into our youngsters…..little did you kids know…..

    Just something to think about…..

Actually I sympathize with your situation as that is my situation. Starting a new website is hard and you have to initially go out there and promote it as best you can. There are many people here that have successful websites that incurred all the same problems trying to consolidate a user base. I may just offer one small suggestion; with the exception of one website (that has a young fan base, and I discussed my reasons for not including a link to the Administration), I have a policy of including a link to any site where I have promoted my website. Sadgeezer.com has had a link at my site since I started five weeks ago and will always have one until the site gets too controversial (and he asks me to take it down).

I visited your board at 3:15PM today and could not find any links to any other sites. I know…..there is very little traffic yet…..but the gesture could still be made even if only symbolic at this time. Just a thought…..

Wow, you really know how to get under my skin. I am doing an update on the Oscar Lacombe trial and just to prove that these are bonafide “free speeech” issues…..Here is a quote from Lacombe’s lawyer (as reprinted from the Edmonton Journal, November 8,2003 by Gordon Kent): “His actions are covered by Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees of freedom of expression, Frite told provincial court Judge David McNab.

“Mr. Lacombe’s statement is like shouting in the wind if he doesn’t bring that prop with him. It’s essential to his right under the charter … to protest something he sees as odious and wrong.””

The gun in question was a 22cal rifle he has owned legally for the past 50 years. He phoned the police two days before he made his protest telling them what he was about to do; and removed the bolt and wraped the gun in plastic when he started his protest.

Lexxlurker…..these are issues of freedom of speech and freedom of thought. I stand behind everything that goes on at my site and my name, address, and phone number are there for all to see. I am sorry you feel that the censorship issues discussed here are “garbage” in your eyes…..many members here think otherwise. This is the last comment I will make in this thread.

Just to cover all the bases:

    1. The guy who blew his brains out did so at a press interview and this was his version of free speech.

    2. The photos from Iraq were a soldier’s version of free speech.

    3. The pro-gun guy’s protest was their version of free speech to the nation. As for the legality or illegality…..well the crown does not seem to want to prosecute. Both arrested are decorated war heros and the firearm passed around by that group when they reached the Parliment buildings was a No, 4 Lee Enfield rifle receiver carried by Turnbull when he fought in Korea (I actually started to cry a bit watching them form a circle and pass that piece of metal around…..I wanted to be there so badly). I gave up on a lot of my previous goals. I now stick to goals that do not involve the subjective judgements of others. Hobbies were good – in the absence of child raising; but I needed more. The answer – for the time being – is that cheesy website of mine. I originally just wanted to catalogue and archive the loss of human individuality, rights and freedoms; and I felt it would be lost in my lifetime. A worthy hobby for one so passionate about rights and freedoms. But I also like hanging around people in the act of protesting…..there is a real energy there, and HOPE! I need to get a fix now! 8) I have done a lot of promoting…..but that really is not necessary for what my original goals were – the private archiving of the very short span of human existence where mankind actually had rights and freedoms…..

I am getting paranoid about “The Man”; The Prisoner syndrome continues. I also lost six pounds last week and had to stay in this weekend in front of the computer eating junk food – Doctor’s orders! When was the last time you heard that!!!!!
