…you’re right headge, you do miss out on the shenanigans and lively debate caused by the trolls, but then again, when the trolls have their way too often, you still lose because reasonable people get fed up and leave ๐Ÿ™ it’s hard to know when to intervene…at any rate, a one week ban is a good compromise

๐Ÿ™ enough already, to refresh memories for our older posters, and to bring the newbies up to date, there were terrible wars here at the end of 2001 which culminated in my banning both maya and gelfling…i felt, and continue to feel, that maya has no boundaries…she carried the flame wars over to my personal email, as well as attacking me multiple times on the board…same same for gelfling…i have just read maya’s revisionist theory of events on scifi.com, and once again, she has come up with a story with very few facts, and is now defending it as the truth…frey had nothing to do with banning maya, but apparently many people immediately took maya’s version as gospel, and turned on frey ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

to those of you that feel that maya has been unjustly treated, i am sorry, but her version of events is not what happened…nevertheless, i am sorry for all the misunderstandings, and hope you will all continue to visit …as saddy says, none of the admins ban lightly, but we all feel there have to be some limits, and unfortunately, people do cross those lines despite multiple warnings, and thus end up banned…

๐Ÿ™ okay, i thought this was all done with, and unfortunately i was in my own private hell this weekend so i am just tuning in…for the record, maya is sweetness and charm as long as she gets her way…but it takes very little to turn her into psycho bitch…and as some of you may have noticed, she has no qualms drawing her own conclusions, then presenting them as fact, then eviscerating anyone who dares to point out that she might possibly be wrong…she also has a dreadful habit of whipping up wars everywhere she goes…in short, ladies and germs, she has no boundaries, and that is why I, FX, banned her, and gelfling, basically for the same reasons…trollish behaviour is bad enough, but carrying it over into people’s private emails (in this case, mine) means an unacceptable escalation…i have usually gone and updated ban lists, but truthfully, with all the server revamps, i let it go…i first noticed that the ban lists did not carry over from server to server when bonnee showed up again…at that time, i discussed with all of you whether or not to let him keep posting…as i recall the conclusion was to wait and watch…maya and x’s girlfriend gelfling, however, showed pathology both on the board and off that i didn’t really want to be a part of…at any rate, i will fess up (again) to banning maya both here and scifi…i really don’t care about her histrionics, i just don’t want to here her bullshit version of the truth anymore….

๐Ÿ˜ฏ flying donkeys? whatever, i suspect if mcmanus gets hungry enough, and the script were interesting enough, we will see a movie with kai ….as far as the beans go, we know that although ‘dead is never really dead’ in Lexx (verbatim from lex gigeroff) why are we all assuming that the movie would take up from where s4 ended? how about more backstory (and while donkeys are flying, mcmanus could get a facelift 8) )…i , for one, would like to see more of the early days with how the insects fought the brunnen g, and more mantrid , and more….oh hell, guess i’ll grab frey’s binoculars and start scanning the horizon ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

hmmm, i like the question about whether or not jc would want this film to be his calling card, but i guess having absorbed more catholicism than i care to admit, i took for granted that the ‘passion’ of christ would dwell upon the atrocities this person suffered…at least that is what the catholics dwell upon when they refer to the passion of christ; hence the stations of the cross in each catholic church…remember, as an oldtime catholic, you would walk the stations so that you could relive the ‘via dolorosa’ or ‘via crucis’ with christ, feel his agony as it were…also the bulk of catholic art of the middle ages and the renaissance dwells upon depictions of christ on the cross, often very graphically, or upon scenes of his broken body being taken off the cross and mourned over (the pieta for example; we all know michelangelo’s version but actually ‘pieta’ or the pity/sorrow, is a generic artistic term for depictions of the dead christ being mourned by his mother) so i guess as a lapsed catholic, who grew up at least partially in italy, the movie is very catholic, and hence, very medieval 8) the protestant religions, at least the majority, on the other hand, tend to focus more on christ’s message of love, hope, redemption, without all the trappings of virgin birth, horrible death and so forth…other than that, yeah, the grinning romans with bad teeth happily flogging people is a bit much…for the most part, in the early days of the empire, the romans were ruthless in their conquest, but then once settled in, allowed the colonized peoples to more or less follow their own laws and religions, and often took aspects of each colonized culture into their own amalgamation of cultures known as the roman empire…both herod and pilate seemed to be fairly horrible examples of their kind, but how much of what they did was expediency or not caring versus actual evil intent as in the case of nero?

anyway, to answer your question, yeah, i don’t think jc would particularly care for this spin on his message ๐Ÿ˜€

    other people have already spoken eloquently so i will simply clarify;

don’t care what you are; doesn’t matter since, as you know, ‘profiling’ is politically incorrect…to wit, if you are attacked by a hispanic male, you are not to refer to that when making your complaint to the police, and they, apparently, are not to look for hispanic males to solve the crime 8) what a world….

don’t agree with the invasion in iraq , and have said this on this website before (most of the people in the army i hang out with do not agree with the iraq issue either)

do not agree with gross violations of civil liberties, but also cannot credit the fact that people living here for several months had time to train to fly AND TELL THEIR INSTRUCTORS THEY DID NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO LAND…and nobody did anything about it…what about all the data that people were supposedly collecting about terrorist plots and training and funding that were occurring right here in the states and nothing was done? maybe we do need more stringent measures

don’t like bush, didn’t like his father or mother, didn’t vote for them

and finally, don’t pull the nyc card on me, i moved here from nyc a month before 911, so obviously i have multiple friends and family there too,not to mention all the cops, firefighters, and ambulance personnel i worked with there daily… so do many of the people on this board; we all pulled together to help each other deal with the pain of it when it happened…this is, however, the first time you have claimed any kinship with the issue; you have proved my point, you bleat about us abuses but this is the first time you have, however remotely, mentioned the tragedy that made the environment ripe for these purported abuses to occur…

i like either straight sg cards or scifi with sg logos…i carry my keychains around, and people do ask about it…having learned my lesson with credit cards several years ago, i now only carry one for travel (sometimes you have to have a real credit card to guarantee rooms and so forth) although by and large i get by with cash/debit cards…at any rate, merchandising and word of mouth/net is key so i am all for it ๐Ÿ˜€

๐Ÿ˜€ hmmm, lemme see now; am i upset over the fact that the us is making life difficult for people who might be muslims to come in to the country, or live here, or whatever….when i have to take off my shoes and get pulled aside every time i fly (my levi’s set off the metal detectors apparently) 8) although i am obviously not arab or iranian or muslim…NOT…would i gladly trade the infringement of civil liberties of a few thousand muslims for the people immolated at wtc (pentagon is a ‘military target’ and therefore somewhat understandable) along with the people on the airplanes who had several minutes to understand that they were going to die at the whim of a saudi murderer and his henchmen? YEAH…and how do i feel about the cops and firefighters who got crushed/burned/etc when they went in to do their jobs and try to get people out…You really don’t want to know, fatguy, and you obviously haven’t got a clue for all your bleating about freedom….the first freedom is the right to live without being beaten up or murdered in the name of any stupid religion or political cause…and like it or not, the majority of worldwide terrorism acts in the last 30 years seem to have some muslim element in it (anybody else here remember the 72 olympics in munich? i was a child and i still remember these masked men murdering athletes for their cause)…how about leila khaled and her bullshit rationalizations for hijacking and so forth? we all know all the events, even if there have been so many at this point that they start to blur together…i am sure you have never inflicted bodily harm or screwed over anyone in your life, maurice, but i wonder how much you have done to talk various sympathizers out of their senseless hatred and willingness to kill? all i have seen from you is complaints about how you have been treated, and how evil the us and its soldiers are…it’s enough already, give it a rest

i think the problem with the seventh season was that our charming children had grown up and had all the weariness and seriousness that life offers when you finally have to worry about paying bills and surviving…childhood/adolescence is painful in that all that you go through is so very intense(i personally would never go through adolescence again, ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) but i do miss the intensity where everything mattered so much, and the world was ending every other day…so to watch our favorite characters going through that, and finally become tired, disappointed and beaten down adults was a downer for all of us, but again, more realistic…i still prefer the first 4-5 seasons, but i am beginning to see more of the humor/sparkle of the sixth and seventh seasons on re-viewing

gee, i wish i had seen the story in question ๐Ÿ˜•
as is the rule here, all of you are making excellent points, while being most excellent to each other ๐Ÿ˜€ …and while i in general agree with the ‘no censorship’ rule, i guess i would have to put in a plea for ‘nonprovocative behavior’…i myself do not really care about sexual content or violence…when i have found myself in the middle of reading something that i didn’t really feel comfortable with, i simply ‘change the channel’…however, there are people who are not really trying to create art when they post, they are simply trying to provoke a reaction, often a negative one…and the times i have taken out my red pencil, it was because i was provoked, enough, finally, to do so…so in that sense, i suppose there is some arbitrariness in the moderation here…i still believe we all adhere to certain basic standards of good taste (i am still reeling over one fanfic i read months ago wherein kai was involved in a degrading rape sequence, i was worried i’d never find my left eyeball after it fell out and rolled under the futon) but admittedly there are instances where i put the question before the other moderators because i am doubting my own opinion…at any rate, we are all trying to do our best, and have fun, and i think we are all open to reasonable discussion, which is certainly more than we can say for the world in general these days ๐Ÿ™„

valdron, you are a good man, like many of the sadgeezers, and i am really glad i finally got to meet you although we didn’t really get to speak much at dragoncon…can you hear a ‘but’ coming? ๐Ÿ˜‰ i am sure you do not intend this, but just for the sake of clarification, you seem to be saying that afghanistan was fine prior to the american invasion/interference/pick your phrase…i , however, seem to remember in the dim recesses of my memory receiving several emails from relief organizations and what not about the status of women in afghanistan under the taliban…before 9/11…women were being beaten in public for showing too much ankle and so forth…now, mind you, i would not go to war over this; my feeling is about abused women that sooner or later, the abuser (YOUR sons/husbands/brothers/fathers) were raised at least partially by women, and by god, if you didn’t raise them right, you at least should know they have to sleep eventually, so there is the opportunity to run away or beat them to death with a shovel …but, the fact remains that afghanistan under the taliban was no picnic, at least for women…and if you have no respect for your women, there may in fact be something fundamentally wrong with your society…just a teeny tiny niggling point that doesn’t have anything to do with the war, but that i wished to remind people of…

fatguy; have looked at your pix a couple of times; there is no context and no real shockers in terms of combat…people get blown up, and if they aren’t cleaned up right away they draw flies and decay…you know this if you have looked at pix from viet nam, world war II and so on, which i am sure you have…we all know that the wtc smelled pretty damn bad after a few days of dead people buried in rubble; that’s why all those workers are wearing masks…i agree with you if you are trying to say that the war in iraq is a bad idea, but i do not agree if you are attempting to imply that the americans are somehow committing atrocities outside of normal welfare…and by the way, most of those minefields were planted by the iraqi’s, most of the random bombings of buses and what not are by fundamentalists, not the americans or the brits or any of the organized armies embroiled in this mess…and i agree with all of you, rumsfield is a schmuck, but i am very glad i don’t have to figure a way out of this whole mess right now…

well, actually i like the people i meet and work with in the army quite a bit…i’m kind of morose about the people i probably won’t see again, but some of us do stay in touch and it’s comforting to know that you know people scattered all over the world…one of my friends from officer basic sends me emails, and just got back from afghanistan…my ‘battle buddy’ from officer basic got back from kuwait a few months ago…and there are many people here that will be visiting me and vice versa when i get back to florida…on the downside ๐Ÿ˜ก , the military in general has too many blockheaded rules and paperwork, and the uniforms in the army are both unattractive and uncomfortable….

well, i regret to say i was in a sadgeezer way for most of the festivities (read; aleck and i started drinking as sooon as the sun was over the yardarm!) but hds was in a divine jack black costume, and his lovely wife was in wench gear with bustier…i finally got to meet mandara k, trini t, as well as our prince look alike, jhvezh, gotham muse, too many others who were fun but impossible for me to remember names, as well as people i had met before at the megacon…

brian and pat and louise were a joy as always, and very nattily dressed, and jeff was a hoot; i had exchanged email, snail mail and interviews with him, but meeting the real thing was entirely new and delightful…there were many gentle jibes back and forth both at the forums and the party between jeff and brian and others of the cast, both missing and present 8)

let me say that despite all the diatribes flying back and forth on the various boards and emails (mercifully, i only caught part of the furor) that everyone seemed to have a really good time, especially at the party and the informal gathering, and i think we all were really glad we had made the trip…may i also offer kudos to those who worked their heinies off pulling this together; frey, hds, trini, lloyd, and a ton of other lexx minions (as thefrey would have it ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) i still think the lexxians are the most loyal and fun people in fandom and i hope all of you guys had as much fun as i did…and i think the cast had a great time too…when i get home i’ll email the few jpegs i managed to snag while still compos mentes

aleck, i am going to take this in the spirit it is offered; you are ranting at me, but the fact is i don’t disagree with what you are saying…we have already had the discussion about bin laden being a saudi, so why iraq, we have already discussed that quatar was also harboring al qaeda, so why saddam and his cronies, etc etc etc…and i for one do not give a hairy rodent’s butt about wmd, or iraq’s oil, or any of that hooey…and i have nagging doubts about bush’s motives as well…so kindly stop berating me ๐Ÿ˜›

i will point out one teeny tiny issue i don’t believe is germane; the crusades were over 800 years ago… devil’s advocate you may play, but the fact is that behavior is frowned upon by most christians for , oh, say the last 300 years or so…slavery is bad, and lynching is bad, and yes, racism still exists, and jerry falwell is an unmitigated moron but i guess we will have to agree to disagree on whether or not that is the same evil as holocausts or these terrorist acts… or whether it is even relevant…i happen to believe that systematic, premeditated murder of large numbers of nonmilitary people is the big ultimate evil,no mitigating circumstances… and those who do it should be held accountable for it, and the rest is just so much philosophical meandering…i will go out on a great big limb here and add that if you know about but don’t stop people from committing mass murder, oh say, as in ‘my cousin in afghanistan or wherever, is planning bad things, but it’s not really my problem,’ then you are just about as guilty as the guy who actually does it….so once and for all, as clearly as i can say it, i do not agree with this war, but i do want all the murderers punished, and right now, i have a very jaundiced view about all the muslims who are not turning these creeps in…

lexxrobotech; may i remind you of the rule about insulting people in the forums? and as far as your feeling insulted about being called antiamerican, to quote you, you are putting words in my mouth…and while we are discussing personal issues, i have family in south africa, and my mother’s family was in a detention camp during world war II for ‘harboring jews’,do we really need to trade victim credibility here? obviously everyone here has some personal stake in any war …having said that, i should have prefaced my weariness about antiamerican rhetoric being an ‘in general’ sentiment at this point, that’s why i brought up other countries in the discussion later on…i am equally offended by the pretexts offered for this war, that is why i keep asking why iraq, why now….and while i agree that you did not call americans nazis in a previous post, you likened them to early nazis; that can be interpreted as inflammatory, which is why i asked you to clarify, and accepted that explanation when you offered it…

on the topic of suicide bombers, aleck, i mean not only the wtc/pentagon bunch, but the ones in israel (i alluded to suicide bombers on buses/marketplaces in a previous post), the ones at the checkpoints in iraq who wave soldiers over and then blow themselves and everyone around them up,in short, the whole concept of suicide bombing…where do you start to talk to people like that? where is the willingness to discuss things in a reasonable fashion when that becomes an acceptable alternative? how do you deal with that sort of mentality?

as far as having some sort of world tribunal decide that saddam should leave, and have the us enforce it, it seems to me that you would still be at war, only without having officially declared it…and again, why iraq ?so many other countries have their hands dirty on the terrorism issue, why are we specifically going after iraq? i will ask again, why don’t the peaceful muslims police themselves (and therefore the rest of the world in the bargain,) why are we having to try to smoke out these vermin at all…i am feeling fairly hopeless about the whole issue, i think that many just don’t care, and so we are more or less stuck with an insoluble problem since we can neither fight nor shame the entire muslim world to give up their support of the terrorists…

I’d just like to add that if you often wonder about true democracy and diplomacy, you should read Nelson Mandela’s “Long Walk To Freedom”.

That book changed a lot of my views on how to solve problems. No matter how strongly you feel about something, there is someone that feels just as strongly against it. It is the ability of mutual tolarance that will lead to peace.

i applaud your faith in diplomacy, and your championing of a great man…but let’s not give people the idea that the south africans, particularly the hard core afrikaners , came to the table of their own accord…a lot of countries, including the us, had to get off of their complacent tushes and bring strong protest and economic sanctions to bear on south africa to help get the parties to sit down and talk (you see, all that ‘divest in south africa’ stuff happened while i was in college, about the same time that the shah’s iranian students were at my university staging demonstrations against the shah ๐Ÿ˜‰ )…and there was a lot of unfavorable publicity about the atrocities perpetrated in the townships by the south african government, not to mention the political prisoners such as mandela…although i noticed your listing as south africa, i would not have brought any of this up until you opened the discussion…i say again, although i am not prowar, i think i am tired as an immigrant of hearing countries, including the one of my birth (italy), whining about the evil americans and the horrible things that they have done, while taking american money hand over fist as they scurry to hide the far uglier skeletons in their closets…so while we discuss the war, let us leave out the antiamerican rhetoric, and talk about how, outside of force, we are seriously going to get saddam, or the terrorists, to bow to outside pressure and come to the table and talk…do you seriously think all these suicide bombers are going to say, gee you are right, what was i thinking? reason only works with the reasonable…why haven’t all the socalled peaceful muslims banded together to toss these terrorists out? i am not being contentious, i am simply still waiting for a reasonable answer….

certain parts of your post are troublesome; the us is like early nazi germany? please elaborate, is that in the taking away the rights of jews, homosexuals, communists, gypsies or other political desirables? is it in the appropriation of properties of these unfortunates, or taking the most aryan looking of their children away to be raised by well placed military and political types? perhaps it was in the methodical and long term plan of eventually ridding germany permanently of these sorts? or was it just the general plan to consolidate all of europe into the third reich? whether they wanted to or not? ๐Ÿ˜‰ by the way, have you ever noticed how no german admits to being in the ss? they were all regular german army at worst, and of course no one noticed all the people going missing… no wait, that was in poland wasn’t it…my bad, i guess i am totally blanking on when the us practiced systematic genocide or terrorism…and by the way, most of us in or working with the military have never approved of selling our weapons/technology to anyone; today’s friend is unfortunately tomorrow’s enemy…yeah, the us has made some bad decisions, and personally, i still think all countries should be allowed to fester in their own private hells, so no, i don’t really see why we are in iraq, but that still doesn’t make me or my countrymen nazi’s…but i would like to see bin laden and all of his supporters flayed alive on network tv, hell i ‘ll bring the popcorn and beer, do you think they would be so kind as to turn themselves in to the un? or maybe one of the countries supporting/hiding them will do it? just to be nice you know, not because they are expecting anything out of it ๐Ÿ˜†

hello there, saddy beat me to the punch but i did want to point out as well that when you guys are having trouble logging on just email me and i will help you sort it out…:D

re this thread, i am glad that by and large the war is being discussed thoughtfully, even if we can’t help getting heated about it…i myself do not know yet how i feel as i cannot separate my own selfish feelings about being yanked out of my new job and home from my ongoing need for resolution regarding 9/11…i find myself extremely resentful over the fact that osama is still slithering around out there, along with several of his likeminded brethren but several people are dying in iraq…and i admit to being puzzled as to why iraq, when several followers of islam who commit terrorist acts are being given aid and succor in multiple countries, such as yemen, saudi arabia, even quatar, one of the more ‘progressive’ countries…it seems a hopeless fight indeed…but the fact remains that none of the antiwar people has yet voiced a plausible course of action against these people who feel it is their godgiven right to fly commercial airliners full of innocent people into skyscrapers, or immolate themselves along with a bus full of innocent people in the middle of a market place, or kill olympic athletes…the list goes on…you see, i too believe that each country and its people are entitled to create their own little slice of heaven or hell on this earth; so when i kept hearing about afghani women who were being beaten for showing their ankles in public, i shrugged and said, okay, that is the world they live in, the sons they have borne have helped create it, not my choice, not my problem…but when you come and spread your poison in my country, and kill my countrymen, then it is my business…so please, if any of you have any real ideas about how to stop that, i am all ears

okay, just read the discussion in question and am still lost; how did bonnee alter adm’s post? did he actually edit adm’s original post? i thought only moderators/admins could edit other people’s posts? if bonnee has in fact altered someone’s post, we need to
    a)fix the problem
    b) assure bonnee that the ban will become permanent if it happens again

as you all know since we discussed it here, i was open to letting bonnee’s ban be temporary; hence i did not leap into the fray as soon as he showed up again, but if this is what he is up to then so be it

also, it has recently come to my attention that at least one of the moderators here has posted under pseudonyms in the past ๐Ÿ‘ฟ …i am extremely disappointed to say the least; this is an odious practice and should not be modelled by example by our own moderators…if you have something to say, have the balls to say it under your own name so that you can either defend your position or eat crow or shrug it off…

good job marybeth on catching/editting adm’s reply…i await your reply as to the bonnee editting before i say anything on that thread; i would like to address the questions to saddy about why bonnee’s ban was lifted…since saddy didn’t ban him i think it appropriate that i ‘fess up and offer my reasons both for the ban and the lifting of the ban…anyway, any of you that care to, please feel free to weigh in ๐Ÿ˜‰

    hi sweetie!

i have only been skimming this topic, but it seems to be fairly reasonable thus far; yeah, tempers are rising, but it is a deeply felt subject that has an impact on everyone, so as long as it doesn’t get personal, i would say let it go for now….when the name calling starts would be the time to step in ;)…for the interim you could insert a nice, bland ‘good discussion guys, glad to see you’re not getting personal’ kind of reply just to keep mood lighter….

i feel your pain sweetie ๐Ÿ˜†

okay, so the war is screwing up our lives in every aspect, and yes, you are right; when i go to the home page it is showing me the latest sadboard posts as being from march 19th, so yeah, another little headscratcher for you ๐Ÿ™‚ …go to sleep already, will you? it’s bound to look better in the morning

oh! before you go to sleep; i got to see the rerun of ‘once more with feeling’ on telly the other night, which as you know i first saw with you guys last summer; wow, it brought back wonderful memories of you, me and kate drinking wine and watching that incredible episode…gave me quite a lift ! (things have been a bit grim here)
