wow, i wasn’t expecting that many responses so quickly…

frey, i dunno about unbanning him except that it is a shame when you have to keep a peep from posting …right to speech and all that…

marybeth, good to hear from you sweetie, and yes, his crappola with you came to mind last night, as well as the episodes of posting under several nicknames…these were again, his usual inflammatory posts; my response that time was to go after all of his pseudonyms and publicly reveal them as being bonnee

headge, it was no major blowout that finally did it, it was just realizing that here i was visiting the board hoping to read some good discussions, and there he was with his usual boil on the ass presence…and yes, i know he is an emailer; way back in the beginning he whined to saddy about his mistreatment at ‘the cabal’s’ hands…saddy tried to soothe some feathers, but bonnee kind of took that as carteblanche to revile the mods at every opportunity…until saddy finally stepped in on a thread and told him to stop abusing the mods…

there are other shenanigans he has pulled, and that includes drawing posters from here into fights on the lexxboard

uhm, why was i going to unban him again?!
lunatic, if you do act like bonnee, i am not sure that is a good thing or maybe bonnee is actually a walter mitty kind of guy at home, and just runs amok on the internet under the cloak of anonymity , in any case, we do not interfere with each other, as saddy does not interfere with us… you may get a what the f*? from someone in private if you go off the deep end, but usually we all just look at the posts and try to figure out what the hell happened …all rumors to the contrary, most of us here don’t really know each other, or hatch malignant schemes on the sidelines about problem peeps…it’s just the lapsed catholic guilt in me that felt the need to confess to you all, my fellow mods,so that you would all know what was going on

wow!…the pity of it is that bonnee will have to borrow someone else’s puter to read that rant, and reply, otherwise he won’t get to see it any time soon…as i said, i am not going to delete/edit your stuff; you are a moderator and we all handle annoying peeps free of interference, and besides, you pretty much stated what many of us have been nettled about with bonnee for a very long time now

thanx fer checking in saddy, i know you have a soft spot for all of us ‘difficult cases’, how else would this happy little dysfunctional family keep going …i just don’t think bonnee really contributes much besides his ‘terrorist’ activities…but i think we should all revisit this in a couple of weeks and see how we feel about bonnee coming back…whaddaya say guys, is it a date? maybe we can think of effective ways to keep from banning peeps like bonnee but still neutralize their warmongering

But back to the topic at hand, sci-fi does hava a more hopeful quality; whereas reality based shows give us a made-for -TV reality. Personally, can’t stand reality shows and sometimes the sci-fi bores me to tears.

Oh., and BTW you don’t really know me FX and thus to call me a pessimist may be premature on your part. i know you probably wanted to defend Flame, but why is it that it is easy to jump on me but you praise others wholeheartedly. And you want to know why everyone lurks and no one posts; i got one word….. biased.

i agree with what you’re saying except that i didn’t call you a pessimist, i said that i shared your pessimism…and i wasn’t ‘defending flame’, i just wrote about what i thought i had read, as opposed to what you had read, no bad, just my opinion, not an attack on you, but i am sorry if it appeared that way…peace?

hi mandara and all, actually, rereading flame’s post, he said a show where we weren’t destroying ourselves over politics and religion, and technically, at least in the original series, he is right…whenever those old coots got wrapped up in a fight they were usually brought to their senses or at least showed remorse (remember their first encounter with romulans? they tried to stop, but the romulan culture did not permit surrender)…yeah, there was violence, but the theme was to try to avoid it or end it as soon as possible… yeah, i know, sappie 60’s scifi sentiments, but we loved that stuff… and in keeping with the idealism of the original series, yes, there was the theme of hoping to wipe out disease and famine…

We are not ready to colonize space yet; we can’t even agree on how to get this planet up and running right; IMHO if man individually and collectively cannot find a way to control himself we will just take the bad and good that is man right into space with him. That frightens me. It’s scary enough that they are doing a p—— contest with nukes and wmd’s!

while i share your pessimism, there is a large part of me that likes to aspire and hope, that is the part of me that likes the optimistic scifi like star trek…it is also the part of me that i don’t share with others who are not into scifi; these days more people can understand the cynicism and darkness of lexx, and not ask me if i wear little green ears to scifi conventions

I think that the big bad was able to manipulate Spike to the point where he wasn’t aware of the pain (via the blackouts), and Spike offed the kids (and the owner of the house), because Spike’s now got the “taste” again and is going to have to go cold turkey in the next ep. I was, indeed, pretty wrong about the chip not working anymore, but I still think that this was the work of the real flesh and bloodthirsty Spikey.

so you are positing a sort of manifestation, with no real powers to act on its own besides talking/maintaining a shape and manipulating others? would this preclude possession as well? i think this critter not only takes shape, but can act on its own…i think it killed the people, then woke spike up to bury them and eventually remember the burials, although spike does not seem to actually remember the killings…and wouldn’t the big bad want to torture spike more by making him remember the killings themselves? spike’s soul is making him suffer for all the killings he has committed, and this thing is all about creating pain and dissension…

Well, I’d not go so far as to say that the Buffy staff’s got no real grounding in the occult. I don’t think that any of them are LHP’ers, but I still think that the Willow stuff is close enough to Wicca to show a decent knowledge of it. And, going on the “Hush” episode where Willow goes to a Wicca campus organization, they *know* what some of these folks are like.

    To quote:

Willow: Talk. All talk. “Blah, blah, Gaia. Blah, blah, moon. Menstrual life-force power thingy.”
Buffy: No actual witches in your witch group?

Willow: No. Bunch of wanna-blessed-be’s. Nowadays every girl with a henna tattoo and a spice rack thinks she’s a sister to the dark ones.[/b]

unfortunately, any prolonged exposure to new-age type morons, as is wont to occur in la-la land, is going to give you at least the vocabulary, but not necessarily the syntax…i am just thinking about marti noxon talking about having all these books about demonology around, and joss whedon just telling her to forget all that, they are just making up demons as they go along to facilitate the story/make the allegory
    work…

    Oh, they’ve got grounding.

may i snidely remind you how annoying groups of satanists can be? except that hey are usually discussing investments and summer homes ?

The big bad is suitably scary and evil looking but I think it looks too much like the devil to be real if you know what I mean. The real chairman of the board would be nastier and less nasty… I think.

one would like to think so , wouldn’t one? perhaps too many years of mick singing sympathy for the devil? nevertheless, someone that powerful ought to be fairly classy and subtle…on the other hand, most serial killers do not look and act like hannibal lechter ,or ted bundy for that matter, so maybe there is some truth in advertising

Besides, the yummy oxygen-rich blood that I’m sure vampires prefer is the darker kind.

oxygen rich blood, such as from the arteries, is bright red and usually pulsatile…oxygen depleted blood, such as from the jugular veins,is dark and usually nonpulsatile

why is true red a no-no in banners? because it tends to give the illusion of floating forward from the screen?

well last night, besides being a really good episode, seemed to show a slightly thinner angel, maybe he’s finally losing some of that sympathetic pregnancy weight? had to love conner waking up with his hand on one of cordy’s ‘ornaments’ that little scamp is going after daddy’s love interest now, and the relationship between wesley and layla is getting more interesting every show as well…can’t wait for next week! btw, it’s good to have lorne back, and you got to love his way with words (my skin crawled off and hid under the couch!)

The last half of the episode has left me very confused. So does Spike have a soul? What was Anya refering to when she asked Spike how he did “it”? Is Spike crazy and imagined the evil changling dude, or is he just playing Hamlet? And generally, WTF just happened?

yes spikey has a soul, that was the ‘it’ Anya was referring to; remember she suddenly looks closely at him and starts babbling about ‘it’, and how did he get ‘it’ back…then he punches her before she can tell everyone that he regained his soul…as far as changeling; hard to tell if spikey was still trying to save face and not admit to buffy what happened, or if he is still ‘conflicted’…remember at the end when he finally tells her, he is completely demoralized over the fact that buffy hasn’t figured out that he really has changed, and that his having a soul hasn’t made a bit of difference to her…although there really was no way for her to know that the new and improved spike is for real…spike has been in love with her for a while, and has tried to show it, and she still didn’t love him…remember last season she told him she could never love him, and not just after the attempted rape; several times she made it clear that he was just a thing, or a demon, or whatever…and that her affair with him was messing up her mind

Would the technology to build efficient weapons be cheap enough for anyone?

hi sweetie, well i guess i would defer to you tech heads about the relative price of technology…i know that in the distant mists of time when i was a defense contractor, the common practice for second and third world countries who sympathized with the USSR was to get the 20 year old technology to play with…in other words, certain arabs who had received soviet aid and training, were using vietnam era surface to air missiles and antiaircraft artillary during engagements with the usa 20 years later …moreover the training that the average field batallion received for the use of those weapons was elementary at best…contrast this with the us policy of giving fairly new technology and training to , oh say, the afghanis, and think again if whedon is way off course…a gun is still fairly cheap and easy to make, as are primitive bombs…any chip technology requires fairly rigorous manufacturing standards…but again, i am long out of this field, and you ,newkate, cat among many others would be better placed to judge the price of new technology vs 500 year old technology …i guess i don’t care for westerns in general, so the space western thing doesn’t do a whole lot for me anyway, but not because i find it particularly unrealistic…btw, the cost of a trident II submarine in the 80’s-old technology if you will- was 3.5 billion dollars; this is a figure i still find mindboggling…as far as i can see, you should be able to buy argentina for that

i would assume they are annoyed by the conspicuous absent of parental figures on buffy; joyce was the only parent we saw with any regularity, and she died, forcing buffy to take on mom role for dawn…willow’s parents lack of involvement was a running joke, xander’s parents were drunks who charged him for room and board, and tara’s family tried to isolate her so that she could be the family slave…giles was a good father surrogate, but ultimately he left buffy just like her own dad…hmmm, reality based or not as buffy may be about parents today, i guess the non-family value thing is not totally amiss…
however, let’s remember that buffy is also about consequences for actions (i mean angel gets evil after sex for chrissakes), not being a victim (buffy is the ultimate non-victim) and about standing by each other…oh enough for now, don’t want to get too preachy…

happy birthday fg! i dunno about sushi as a cure for hangovers but back when i still ate meat my friend and i used to pick up steaks on the way home from the clubs and broil them with mushrooms at 4 in the morning…he said it soaked up the alcohol so we could toddle off to work in a couple of hours …gawd; the things we do to our bodies when we’re young and think we’re going to live forever

    enjoy!!

oh sweetie, i noticed you weren’t around, so sorry about your back…vodka is a good idea, but tincture of time really does the trick

i think commemorating where we were last year when this happened is important; i myself will be flying to nyc on 9/11 to be with friends and take part in the moments of silence and so forth…maybe you could print a post from last year, sort of link it to the original thread, and talk about how people feel one year later…make a point about how people from all over the world met here to comfort and take comfort in other strangers…for me it was very moving, and very important to talk to you guys..it was two weeks of finding myself in places i didn’t remember driving to, crying at the drop of a hat, and getting up at three in the morning to visit with tom brokaw and talk to you guys online…so yeah, i think it might not be a bad idea to remind people of what a unique community this can be hope your back gets better soon, love fx

yup, remember when you guys showed it to me…the profile works now; thankee again…military training; i think we may have discussed this during one of our drunken rambles, but i am in the army reserves…so after my lovely trip to europe i was confronted with all sorts of horrors including trying to wear a gas mask with my extreme claustrophobia, and being thrown off of a 50 foot rappel tower (which was actually a relief after the gas mask/tear gas experience)…anyhoo, glad the move went well, and am more than impressed with your and katie’s remodeling abilities when you’re sick of your place and need a rest, remember there’s a lovely little space on the gulf coast for you both

    hi flame,
saw the hostilities occurring and was reluctant to interfere given that you are a moderator…however bonnee was hitting on several fronts so i kind of engaged him elsewhere…it would appear that bonnee feels that he can insult everyone here but saddy with impunity, but saddy put him straight on that count…for all moderators; i know i have been away, but please send me email/private messages when you wish assistance…usually one of us is available when the others are not, and there really is no reason to have to swallow bull**** from that moron or any other indefinitely…anyone else have any concerns or questions? i am just starting to get back in the swing of things so i hope i haven’t missed too much…

so be it, bonnee, you will run crying to sadgeezer about your fantasies of a malignant cabal here but your selfserving declarations of reasonableness and elder statesmanship really do not fool anyone; witness the fact that you do not ever attempt to mollify but rather jump in to join the attack

now as for ignoring threads, there are threads where i have seen behavior that has caused me to lift a mental eyebrow; in general however, the ‘staff’ here do not interfere with each other publicly so i stayed out of it…and quite frankly, this summer has seen me away from home and business enough not to have time to read every thread; that will change…

as each of us has said, we enjoy all of the discussions, particularly the lively ones where every one gives out convincing and/or humorous rebuttals or proofs of their viewpoints, but when the namecalling and fingerpointing starts, it is no longer enjoyable, and that is when the moderators step in

all have behaved badly, so kindly move back to the thread and away from each other’s throats…
