amen, aleck my love! elfie, i am sorry you feel that way about us, but i can understand since when i visit scifi.bb it seems that i am reading ‘goodbye cruel board’ or apologies for misunderstandings, or a 1001 nights of kai that is not snobbery, it is just not what i want to see…anyway, your points are well taken, and certainly nobody is going to tell you not to post your opinions here, but we will ask you not to insult people while you are doing it …your humble moderator, fx (by the way, i have it on good authority that everyone has been otr the last couple of weeks )

hi newmoniker; i feel the same way, and that’s why i went to such lengths to be in halifax for the end of this…i am not trying to be coy, but i am go writing this up for saddy (hopefully by tomorrow ) so that we will all be on the same page and then everyone can ask questions based on the account…xenia was there, but she was sick(some sort of flu) as well as being in 4 inch stiletto heels for an entire day, so she was a hurting unit… mm was also there, and i/we will tell you everything that transpired as well as all that i/we overheard…brian gave some hints as to possibilities, but our main source was an actor who wishes to remain unnamed, and some other people in the know…you will hear everything that no one made me promise not to tell as i do honor my promises …as for what i overheard mm say, since he barely talked to any of us, and therefore certainly did not ask us not to tell, i will reveal everything overheard …so more later dearie

too true, but i think mm was nominated for a genie, i don’t think he actually got it…i think atom egoyan has actually gotten an award or two

elfie and slop: i am continually seeing ugly little blowups at scifi so i don’t drop in that much…i would like to clarify that i at least am not ‘friends with the beans etc’; but i do like s4 overall and probably jeff’s eppy’s the best…the thing about lexx is that when it’s on it’s really on and different, but when it’s off it might as well be porky’s revenge…

nice to meetcha doffy! well, it is not only anal humor but there is a fair amount of male on male anal humor, and we know the us doesn’t like gay unless it’s cute and sanitized gay…this episode is completely over the top and i was wishing that the beans had let their hair down more, or that i had at least had the opportunity to see it i know rolf was very shocked when i said there was no way we were going to see his bum on scifi us…and xev’s …erm…fondling is not going to make it either…i just hope the us at least gets to see the expressions on the actor’s faces; (including mcgarbo!) these people really are talented, and it’s a shame we don’t get to see them strut their stuff more…the…uh …scatological humor might make it though; in the wake of south park everybody likes poopy jokes

well at least you know bad science …while many of freud’s concepts have become unfashionable, along with psychoanalysis, he is an apocryphal figure in modern thought, and laid the framework for modern psychiatry…his influence has so permeated the culture that most people do not even realize that the progenitor of many common ideas, paradigms and phrases is in fact freud…as for psychosexual stages, his schema was the first and has been built upon and modified continually since the initial groundbreaking ideas were stated…freud himself reevaluated and revised many of his concepts throughout his life…but the most important thing to think about is that before freud, no one even discussed the sexual nature of man, let alone the role it plays in development, and daily life, nor had anyone ever begun to address the incestuous sexual abuse that occurs in even so-called normal families…you do accept that those things occur don’t you? do you entertain the notion that sexuality is a fundamental human drive and influences almost all aspects of human behavior ? are you at least willing to talk about it? well, that’s because of our much maligned freud (and jung, and erickson, and so on) oh wait a minute…you’re a skinnerian behaviorist aren’t you?

the first time i saw McGarbo was as we were trotting in opposite directions on the stairs…we did the new york thing were you look and then look away and pretend you are not sharing the same space …he proceeded to give off that ‘i vant to be alone’ schtick for the entire time…that’s okay :i’ve spent years doing the same thing … keeps the bag people away don’t you know…he did come out of his cave at one point while lex was giving us the tour, waited til he had our attention, then asked if we were the web board moderators, said “i’m michael” and shook hands… he made some sort of comment about my grip which was greeted with “yeah, she got me too” by a couple of the other guys, and then talk about kung foo ensued and we eventually wandered off to continue the tour with lex…at any rate, we all made a point of not invading mm or xenia’s space as they were obviously not into it, and xenia was also sick on top of the ridiculously long hours so why torture the girl…it’s just that the standoffishness was more glaring because of the incredible graciousness of everyone else there…anyway, for the record, droolers, he’s my height (5’11” or so), painfully thin,
green to hazel eyes, with hair about as long as mine (shoulder blades) with a lot of white roots growing through the brown dye…the hair is usually tied up in a bun at the back of his neck when he’s not in costumes, or on one memorable occasion, in little heidi rolls all over his head complete with a stretchy sweat band to keep stray strands out of his face …this is while he was waiting to put THE WIG on, which he understandably puts off as long as possible because it’s pretty well stapled to his head for action scenes…for you boys, xenia is also extremely thin and small,as is bunny, but bunny has the better bum IMHO and you’ll be seeing a lot of it in upcoming eppy’s …xenia’s lips are not quite as prominent in person…brian downey is also extremely thin, and a very sharp dresser as well as being incredibly funny; i mean he has a comeback or smartass comment for every occasion and just starts improvising vignettes that will have you rolling at the least provocation …i did not get to see prince but i talked and smoked way too much
with Priest…more later kiddies, time to work

someone else..? Hehehe…

you are most welcome, may…i came up with mcgarbo my own self before seeing him based on interviews and snippets of gossip, so in that sense he did not disappoint …the cast and crew had various characterisations varying from ‘so cynical’ to …well, we won’t go there …the hair and makeup crew also had an endearing tidbit to share; apparently our boy is fairly frequently late for makeup/hair call…so they started fining him 20 dollars every time he was late so that finally it got to the point where he was just wandering in and peeling off bills silently for each of the affected staff…i thought that was cute…i will also add that the first scene we saw being shot was the ending of lexx…needless to say i was ready to go home right then in a blue funk…but if i had i would have missed one of the most magical things i have ever witnessed; brian was shooting against green screen and was not letting go the way paul d was asking for…mm came in to give his lines for stan to play against(as opposed to just an empty moth in a studio)…mm started singing the anthem for brian, and in this dark studio full of crew with that a capella voice ringing out i finally ‘got’ what theatre is all about…see, blackie has worked in theatre and knew about that one moment when everything finally falls together and just works, but i am a brainless child of television and film, never liked theatre, so it was an epiphany to finally see what all the fuss is about; i was truly moved…he really is a good actor, and does take his work seriously so i guess you just have to take all the rest with it and be grateful for the result…still think his mama should have beaten him more as a child though

sorry sweetie, we had talked about the upcoming trip and interviews in several threads in both forums over the last several weeks but i guess a lot of it was overshadowed by the events of sept 11…believe me, a lot of the thrill of finally getting to see electropolis and the beans and everything else was ruined by knowing that this was the end of this wonderful show (unless you can go to thailand for location shoots for the next few weeks ) and the last time this really incredible mix of people working their hineys off to pull it together would be at electropolis making magic…i am very sad tonight

lexxian faux pas! we all do, but apparently it ****es the hell out of mcmanus to have his character compared to spock…so i’ll temper it by saying spock mixed with the ghola duncan idaho

on the other issues, i’ll just mention that since there are a limited number of plots, it is how one gets from point a to point b that sets that version of the plot above the other tellings of the same plot…farscape’s premise originally had some interesting quirks, like lexx, they had a being that was derived from plants rather than animals, except that zhaan was actually a member of an entire culture with her own values and history, whereas lyekka is only an intermittent character with no real background , she’s just there to help the story along…this is appropriate as farscape is ‘space opera’ a la star trek whereas lexx is avoiding all that baggage. We really don’t know anything about anyone except kai, and precious little about him…we just want to see how the crew gets in and out of their situations, and we realize as we sit on the couch feeding our little bloated bodies chips and beer that we are a lot more like stan then john chrichton… Looking at john chrichton, yeah, it’s great to be a hero, although frequently he is the bumbling human way out of his weight range in the universe… even though he is a product of nasa, and all the petty bureaucratic wrangles and politics of that particular institution he is ‘noble’…well now, what is more realistic? all of us who have dealt with the government are probably of the mind that it’s actually more like kai sitting tied up in a chair getting his brain chewed on by various annoying officials and saying ‘it’s been a long time since i’ve killed a roomful of petty bureaucrats’…so i guess lexx is more realistic in the sense that they at least voice the fantasies of what we would really like to do in certain situations, whereas john and crew are our fantasies of how we wish we would react to certain situations if we had wonderful buff bodies and big guns …i guess that makes me more of a harlan ellison and kurt vonnegut scifi fan than an isaac asimov type, but i still foray into bradbury and frank herbert too

welcome to the sadboard, holt! no rules here, just general mayhem all though you will see us slapping down rudeness your questions are good ones, as for why i like lexx i am going to reprint a post from way back when on that topic:

i agree the second season was pretty self-contained whereas the third season is integrated towards an ending…i also think the third season is more like what mm alluded to into the july chat when he talks about lexx not being as optimistic as americans generally like…if you look at the different stories there really are no redeeming qualities to most of the characters, they are unapologetically self-centered and the universe as a whole has nothing going for it, no aspirations to bettering mankind or any sort of noble star trek directives and that is what makes lexx a cult show rather than a mass appeal show…i’ll get off the soapbox now except for noting that it is the cynical outlook pimples and all of the human condition that makes lexx so funny…

hope that helps holt, i also like farscape, but less this season…and am an original stardrek fan from when it first aired …star wars grew on me, but i found it a bit simplistic at first, and still do, but i love it now

perhaps if the actors, after a few years, find that this was their most recognizable and lucrative experience, they will be more amenable to a reunion as a movie…isn’t that the way it happened with star drek?

when I start following a sci-fi series, like Star Trek, Doctor Who, or Lexx I get *really* into it. I notice the subtle nuances of Lexx that more casual viewers overlook.

I could make a statement about obsessive types reading their own personal meaning into innocuous entertainments, but it’s too obvious. Let’s just say that I’m glad that he’s not listening to the White Album and living out on Spahn Ranch in Death Valley.

oh aleck….fx shakes her head…weren’t you defending the bobby beausoleil soundtrack to lucifer rising to me a few weeks ago besides, dt is too young to catch that particular allusion

may eve origins are supposedly lost in the oral traditions of various pagan sects…basically it’s the celebration of spring wherein we are all supposed to frolic naked at midnight and copulate, thus exciting the gods and goddesses to do the same, thus renewing mother earth’s cycle of fertility and birth (which of course gives us lots of good things to eat so we can feed all the spawn generated on may eve! )all in all a more sensible and pragmatic approach to life

hey elmey, after years of my (now ex-) husband saying ‘the sixties are over, try some husker du’ or whatever, it is nice to hear someone else voice nostalgia for the good old days but i was still a tad disappointed…
now on to psychopathology;i asked blackie the same question today as we were trying to sort out hotels in hali on the phone, what is it about seeing kai helpless and submissive that is so fun? i am beginning to seriously question my sanity…i mean, i like kai, i rely on him to pull everyone’s chestnuts out of the fire all of the time, so why am i liking him getting his butt kicked? is it because he looks so cute lying on the floor dazed?ackkk what’s wrong with us! absolutely dearie, i am sorry i traded brevity for clarity on that point…a small niggling difference that i was hoping to make clear; the cyclic struggle of the ubermensch, like the souls on the karmic wheel, is not the same as time itselfbeing a circle…just as history does not, per se, repeat itself… but the mistakes we, as fallible humans, make, repeat themselves endlessly…in other words, we do not necessarily learn from our mistakes, and thus recreate the same scenarios over and over again with monotonous regularity, so that history seemsto repeat itself…i hope that is clearer…and that the pedantic point made here might not be lost on certain people
