Scifi does have a lot of movs/miniseriers comign out. The taken is goign to be huge for them. And you know what that means, the 6 weeks before it airs you will see an ad for it during EVRY COMMERCIAL BREAK. And the saem will go for other cable channels the two weeks before it airs.

They have not mentioned what tv shows will tkae the palce of the dparting ones. Which concerns me. Becasue they may give us more crap like Strange World, Black Scorpian and First Wave.

The Chronicle had only one season. Scifi only ordered a dozen episodes intially. The show got great ratings so they ordered another dozen or so. Teh fact is that the show did better on Saturdays when it aired before the Outer Limits. There is averaged 1.2. Now it gets 1.0. Why they’re cancelling it is beyond me. A one is still a great score for scifi. Lexx is the past averaged a 1.2 or 1.3. Its only gone down the toilet this season. If the beans wanted to do a s5, I doubt scifi would reknew it with ratings this low. So much for the spinoff.

I’d integerate LexxLurkers anaylsis in with a few quotes from the episode. 90% of this epsiode was a chess game. So review the chess game. AS well as add some info on the dream and other zone, dissappearing body parts and comments about the chess piece one-liners.

I wouldn’t say that his experince has been ruined forever. The first time I played we had no ****ing clue what we were doing. We still look back and laugh at how warped we played. Things like: you get the killing shot, you get all the xp; killing the spelljamer; returning athas to the blue age. True it wasn’t nearly as warped as what Smartarse said, but it was close. The important thing is that he had fun. I look back at my first games/campaign (if you can call it that) as a test run. A way to see what we like and what works. After that we all sat down read the books, and understood the rules and put together some truelly extaordinry games. So don’t lose all hope.

lexxlurker: I love Dark Sun. I never really did the computer stuff though. Some of my more memorible experinces were on Athas. (After we learned to play right). For a variety of reasons (enough to start a new thread) many players hate Dark Sun. It’s too survivalistic and primitive, its not medival, everythings warped from traditional games. But most people despise it becasue of (gasp) psionics. Which I absolutely love.
Bruce Cordell did a good job with 3e psionics, but he had to deal with what was given to him. After all was said and done psionics was castrated from its 2e glory. Soemthing many gamers love, I don’t. We have a variety of house rules for psionics that get psions on par with wizards/sorcerrers. Many of those rules are thing Bruce Cordell came out with after the fact. Illithids are my absolute favorite, and I can write pages on why.
Over winter break I ran a 3e Dark Sun campaign with my group back home. They loved it and called it the best campaign they’ve ever been in. (We’ve all been playing in a large variety of groups over the past 7-8 years, most times seperately, but we all return to our original group when we’re all in town) Personally I thought it could have gone MUCH better. I really needed to play test before I presented it. So the campaign was almost a giant playtest. They just didn’t realize it though. If you want my 3e conversion just email me and I’ll send it to you. WotC has no plans to relase Dark Sun for 3e, and I haven’t heard any plans of someone else making a d20 systems rules for it.

Marybeth: Almost everythign has changed! Its wayy too extensive to write all the changes here.

Oops sorry Jay Jay, forgot to put spoilers in the title.

Sad, UK is ahead of US in terms of epsiodes so far. I belive showtime hasn’t finished with the 5th season yet. But… we start s6 in June on scifi. Yay, a cable channel I get! Most of america is still on s4, we’re watching it in synidication.

I liked the chronicle, and was upset when I read that it was beign cancelled. I can’t understand why scifi would cancel now after puttign so much money into it. Especially since its one of their highest rated shows. Iman I won’t miss too much. The first seasonwas good but the second season was virtually the same episode over and over.
Strange world is not a new show and I doubt any new epsiodes will be made. The show aired a couple years ago on ABC(?) but got horrible ratings, and only showed the first three episodes. Scifi is showing all 13 produced eps.
I have no idea what’s up with scifi in 2002. After this year tehy will have 2 orginal shows. Farscape and Outer Limits. Lexx, iman, chronicle, are strange world are all over in a few weeks. SG1 is a good propect but s6 is ther last so scifi can’t milk it for another year. The only obvious prospect I see for htem in the future is b5:lotr Scifi has to have soemthing big up their sleave, or they are being exceptionally stupid this year. Or both.

I agree, we haven’t heard that alst of Scorpy. But Harvey’s still there so we’ll still get to see Wayne Pygram a lot. But I think the new baddy fro next season is that Commondant Cleavage lady.

I also agree that Scorpius would only use wormhole tech against the Scarrans. But the PK’s are evil and will use it against everyone and anyone they encounter for any reason. That’s why I think Crichton didn’t give him the technology, not because of Scorpius but rather the peace keepers.

No just melting Chrichton’s brain isn’t his style. Scorpius is genocidal and wholey. I do belive that he really would mount a 120 cycle (round trip) mission to earth just to destroy us. His philosophy is, “if one of ’em screwed me over, then they all screw me over. So I’ll have them all destroyed!” After Crichton sees Earth turned into a charred rock, then Scorpius will use the aroura chair on him, or worse.

Scifi’s advertising is extremely predictable!
Two years ago they ran an ad for Dune once every commercial set for the three weeks before it aired. This is in addition to all the highway billboard signs they bought, other channel advertising, movie theater ads, and other channel ads. Once Dune aired twice, they plugged their Prime show more.
Last year/this year they did the same thing fro B5:LotR! Right after it aired, they replaced those lotr ads with Lexx, Chronicle and few Iman plugs. Then came that Jackie Chan kung fu thing a couple weeks ago, hey where’d all the Friday Prime advertising spots go to? That’s right, the stupid kung fu flick. But, Firestarter is on next weekend, Can you guess whose getting all the ads now? All this holds true for Mindstorm, which aired a few months ago.
Last calender year, Scifi put a lot of emphasis on their prime time m-th shows. They plugged Farscape, and the grade C movie of the night, quite often. Remember how many ads the Lexx movies got when they were aired?
This year the emphasis has changed, scifi still plugs EFC, Outer Limits and the nightly lame movie, but only in the afternoon and evening. An equal amount of ads are done for the prime shows, and an equal emphasis is put into the Sunday Night movie.

I’d like to say that after Firestarter, that more ads will go back to Lexx (not that the blitzkreig ad campaign the 2 weeks before it restarted helped), because look what’s coming back on at the end of the month. Yup “The greatest scifi show on television” Farscape. (Scifi’s quote, not mine) I like both Lexx and Farscape. (But its obvious which one I like more. If you have to ask, you obviously don’t know me. But I’m running off on a tangent, so I’ll continue this in the Farscape forum shortly.) So can you guess where most of teh avcated ads slots will go?

LotR takes palce 4 years after Objects at Rest. Crusade another year after that. There’s no references to the Hand in Crusade.
A good chronology can be found here: http://www.visi.com/~wildfoto/episodes.html

Sleeping in Light was more of an epilogue as opposed to a Season 5 episode. It took place a little over 18 years after Objects at Rest. Londo and G’Kar killed each other two years before that.

Vir isn’t related to Londo. Even though he thinks of him as a son (toward the end). Earlier Londo saw a younger versionof himself, before he was corrupted by primp and politics.

The Vorlons didn’t care about his act of selflessness, they would have destroyed Centari anyway, except at the same time Sheridan Army of Light destoryed their other planet killer, not too mention the shadows and other first ones they had to deal with.

I think it was a completely different species. The Net body plan was radially symmetrical, based on 8. The Insect body plan seems to be based on 3 and 7 and always bilateral. It does have similar characteristics, like an exoskeleton, enormous size, the capability of interstellar travel, and the ability to pass part of its intelligence to hosts of other species.

The Lexx is programmed to be afraid of the Web he sees. He also knows that where there’s a Web there’s likely to be a Spider. His instincts told him to turn but Stan told him not to, with disastrous results. This implies that the Insects and the Nets had previous contact, and, as with this situation, the Insect was the victim.

But, keep in mind, terrestrial insects can show considerable polymorphism within one species, and the Insects had advanced technology like genetic engineering which they could have used to greater specialize and differentiate castes.

I was basing my assumptions that the nets were insects based on theire size, intelligence…
You made a good point witht the 3 and 7 segments. Yes I know that is the case but I (and 99.9% of the population) tend to group bugs, insects, aracnids etc in the same group: Creepy crawly things I don’t want touching me or my food or living in my house!

I wouldn’t say that the LEXX is programmed like a computer to be afraid of webs. That fear is natural to him. Much like how LEXX moths and terrestial moths are drawn to flame. And how every other lifeform (except for us) on the planet stays away from things with bright colors. i.e. bees, poison dart frogs, monarch butterflies etc. Bright colors are natures way of saying don’t touch. We make our bombs that way too. Unfortuanlty bright colors attract children, d’oh.

I’ve read about/seen ants with huge variantions within a species. Ranging from size, color, mandibles etc. But each one still looks like another ant. A moth, a dragon fly and a pill bug look nothing alike. That’s why I disagree witht the caste theory. Individual castes within the pill bugs isn’t such a bad idea though, too bad we’ll never get any back story to prove it one way or another.

Correction, we did see the web/net creature. I have no idea what roll it/could’ve played in the insect war. Perhaps just another fighter. Since it still existed, and the Brunnen G thought it destroyed all the insects, perhaps they only referd to the pill bugs. The stigners seem content to do what they’re told (hence why I think they’re a human creation), but the web/net creature just wants to catch food and survive. The pill bugs were intent on destroying all human life, so they may have incited/recruited the other bugs to fight the humans. Once the Brunnen G destoryed the pill bugs, with no unifying force, the other insects scattered and went back to being typical survivalistic creatures. Much like the insects that live on our own world.

I like your ideas DT, but I’d have to disagree with your caste theroy. From what I understand caste implies that the creatures are from the smae species. I doubt that the Stingers, and Giga Shadow insects(hereafter refered to as pill bugs), LEXX and moths are of the same species. Same order maybe, but not species. I think of the insect civilization as a confederacy of different insects (assuming it wasn’t just the pill bugs) fighting against the humans. The pill bugs were huge creatures and very intelligent. They were the “brain” bugs and also heavy warriers. Whereas stingers (If they weren’t just a Brunnen G or other human creation) were light warriers. We haven’t seen any other natural bugs so its hard to tell what oany ther speices jobs were; if there was any other speices. We haven’t heard any back story on the insect war so its hard to tell if anything besides the pill bugs fought or existed.
The LEXX and moths (and possibly stigners) are human creations, so they do not fit into an insect society. But I agree you that they came from insect DNA.

Electrasy – Cosmic Castaway

Lose my head to the chemical freeway
Comin’ up on overload
In a mystic new dimension
Purify and sanctify me
What, so I’m in no end game
Move my piece right off the board
Losing sure is easy so I am no more

But I’m not broken, in my dream I win
In here I’m nothing, a Cosmic Castaway

In my head I’m a chemical dreamer
Speed up to burn out mode
Comin’ up in the 5th dimension
Beautify don’t crucify me, yeah
So I need no mind game poisoning my lonely soul
Losing sure is easy so I am no more

But I’m not broken, in my dream I win
And I take over, coz I’m no loser
And I’m in and you’re not, bad dreams don’t stop
But I’m all screwed up, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway, a Cosmic Castaway

And I want but have not
Bad dreams, lust thoughts
In here with no pain, you hurt me again
And I want but have none
I should beat the alien
But here I’m no one, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway

This is beginning to look like Karaoke night at the Sad Pub.

Of course when they do promote they don’t promote it right…

To the contrary Lexx averaged a 1.0-1.1 earlier this season, and averaged a 1.2 last season. This is the lowest ratigns I’ve ever seen for it. In addition scif plugged Lexx more often for the second half of the season . The first part of s4 saw only a couple adds a day.

I’ll give the epsiode this much, it was traditional lexx episode. Very crazy. At least week the script was more consistant and the direction was infinitly better.
Ok FX I know, there was one inconsistancy. In Eatign Pattern Zev says “On my planet we bury our dead”, but in this episode Xev was all about sending the dead to a protein bank. But thats a traditonal lexx oversight. Overall I like this episode, its good to see that Lexx is getting back to its dark humor roots. But I must confess, during the second showing last night, I hardly paid any attention to it and found myself bored. So unlike Walpugus Night this episode had no real rewatchability. I don’t think that this was a throw away episode like The Rock, and 769, perhaps even Stan Down, The latter two had like 15 min of real lexx material and the rest was lame bs filler. But I digress.
The only thing I will remember this episode is teh one liners; Stan’s and Xev’s commetns to the mournign families. And Kai finally admitted it to himself, “The dead are messed up”
Two thing you may have not noticed was the use of (vanilla) profanity. Cursing was much more prevelant here then in any other episode. So much so that it got a “D” in its warning parental warning box. Another subtelty is that when Stan and Xev are leaving Rimsore (or asshole as spray painted on the sign) is theat they’re on Rt 666.

What’s going on with that, are they in the movie or not? For like a week I kept reading about they’re in the movie then they’re not, then they’re in again….

If they are I don’t think it will be that bad. The impression I got from the articles and how easily they could be removed form the movie, is that they have an extra roll. Like group of people walking down the street #7, or members of a mob scene.

uhh, the laughter house 5 forum is unmoderated. Mary Beth or any other mod can’t move topics from there. Only an administrator. And that thread in is already on page 2. Much like the new Aleck vs DT790 argument, ahh the sadboard is back!

One thing though, shall it be Lexx based or whole new premise away from Lexx?, I say this because I doubt anyone can recreate Lexx humour and I wouldn’t dare try, and you just can’t do Lexx without sexual innuendo and humour.

Let’s try soemthign non-Lexx based. I’m not to big on reading fanfics, but I do like reading/writing original stuff. If the “silliest cluster lizard in the two universes” can’t think up something by Sunday, I’ll try to throw soemthing out there. But yea a serious attempt at scifi sound great.
