I want to see a porno where Xenia Seeberg and Eva Haberman get it on.

    …no wait, wrong topic. 😳

My experience, and particularly in sci-fi, is that side shows never to well. Look at all the Star Treks… Deep Space and so on never came close to the originals. As for the documentry, I’d love to see it, and so would a few fans but would the small amount of viewership warrant it? After all, isn’t it all about money?

Im sloshed. Im not entirely sure Im making sense, then again, Im not making typos so Im not to wasted.
Alex Busby and David Hackl, were getting drunk, looking at the script, and they started joking about potato shaped space ships.

What would be inside a potato shaped spaceship. Evil Tubers? Mean Yams. Angry Roots. Bad Carrots. Alex Busby sketched out an evil Bad Carrot which would go around jumping up peoples behinds.

When they sobered up, they showed it to Paul. He liked it. Bad carrots came in. Squids went out. Lex Gigeroff told me they were kind of sick of doing tentacles anyway. It had been done.

Sadgeezer : I was only kidding about the Zulu and Afrikaans. It would be an absolute waste. Don’t even think about it. Besides, as the only person here fluent in either Zulu or Afrikaans, I’m perfectly capable of reading and speaking in English.
where did you get that stats saying that most of JK Rowlings readers are male?
Well, you can look at the Bloomsbury site for official demographics.

You can also search most Harry Potter sites like http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org , They publish most of the interesting facts about the books.

Also, in the Chamber of Secrets DVD you can watch an interview with JK where she talks about her books being more popular with boys than with girls.

Now just so you understand more clearly, neither I nor JK are saying that the books aren’t popular with girls, it’s just that they have a higher male readership rate.

Interesting comment ShadowedVenus, but according to the stats, most of JK’s readers are male.

I always laugh at ~sexist~ comments. To say that
Rowling has chosen not to challenge any of the sex-linked prejudices commonly bound up esp in the more simple works of the the SFF genres and made her hero on his quest a boy
is very entertaining to me. It’s kind of like saying to avoid it being offensive you should never use a male as the hero of your story. 🙄

By the by, what do you mean by
acceptably feminine academic prowess
?

Yes, Hermoine is a side kick, JUST LIKE RON, but we don’t see people calling it sexist because one of the main side kicks is male. Besides, if the Hermoine was the main character, the books would have been called the Hermoine Granger books and not the Harry Potter books.

There are a couple of little things in the Harry Potter books that are not so cool.

Like in the first one the Burmese Python winks at him. Snakes can’t wink. They don’t have eyelids as such. (Well, they sort of do, but on the inside of their eyes… and it’s more of a membrane)

Still, the basalisk part isn’t really a problem. They didn’t know what the creature was exactly. Only Salzaar Slytherin and his heir new what the creature was. The rest was Harry, Ron and Hermoine’s guess work really. The movie is where the slip up takes place.

Book five is my least favourite.

I like book 3 best by far.

but just to add my 2 worthless South African cents… I always thought that the cult status was defined by the fans and not the shows themselves. If it has a cult following, as opposed to being just really popular, then it is cult sci-fi.

Take Robotech. It ended in the mid eighties. Thousands of fans fought for it, it’s been aired all over the world again and again, and last year, the brought out the DVD’s. The fans have conventions and follow it all over the net… they recieve news letters about it. It’s a cult following. That simple.

I think that the Harry Potter movies are great, but no where near as good as the books.

The Two Towers was complete and utter rubbish. They really trashed that movie. But then again, nothing, and I mean nothing, can compare to JRR. He is the god of all fantasy. It’s that simple. 😆

I liked the old Dune movie much better than the book.

My worst sci-fi Hollywood mess up was Contact. Carl Sagans book is AWESOME!!! Really thought provoking and interesting while being fantastically entertaining at the same time. The movie was rubbish. The book contact could never have been made into a movie, too much would be left out. It would have been better as a miniseries or a tv series.

firstly, you didn’t ask about anyone else. You asked about Idi.

Stalin and Hitler were evil. Idi Amin was stupid. He was mildly retarded. He recked an already poor country and did nothing even remotely intelligent in his rule. Unlike Stalin and Hitler.

In terms of who and how evil a person is you need to look at the facts. More innocent lives were lost through Stalin than through Hitler (although Hollywood will never let anyone say otherwise) so I would say that Stalin was more evil than Hitler.

I don’ t think that a dictatorship is evil, it just so happens that most dictators put themselves first and care little for the innocent. Those that cross the line and start cleansing certain population groups are judge evil, and rightly so, by the civilised world. Although Stalin and Hitler appeared a little nutty, neither were insane.

Here in SA I have millions of complaints and issues with our disgusting government.

The thing that gets me is that most educated people will complain when they get together, but don’t do much else. Maybe we should all (Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians and Antipodeans) get off our backsides and take a more involved stance in our government.

Then again- popcorn, beer and sci-fi can do a lot to keep me snug in my comfortable home. I may get mad at the evil ANC leaders, or curse Americas evil foreign policy… but thats about all I’ll do. Its not long before Star Trek or the like takes my mind of the news.

Maybe we’re the ones at fault for letting our fellow citizens ellect these dickheads into power.

A wiseman once said, “Power is not for the powerful, but for those who take it”.

Personally, I tend to live in my own world, and only come out of it so as to get the things I need to slip back into it. It’s safer, and much nicer.

    This is terrible…

But I really liked Beverly Hills 90210 and Magnum PI when they were on.

Right now, my best program not sci-fi would be Everwood.

Of course, the Brittish classics are still by far the best in the world. Nothing can compare to good old Python or Fawlty Towers. Not even the biggest of Hollywood budgets could recreate as much none sci-fi entertainment as the likes of Cleese, Palin and Co.

Its funny how as up until now I didn’t know how much all my TV viewing revolved around sci-fi.

You know, thast something that gets my skirt up. Not that I wear a skirt though.

It seems the Sci-fi channel (one of the main reasons I got Satelite tv installed) seems to smack its label on all sorts of things no sci-fi. Surely if they need some cheaper programs to run so that they can get the top new shows they could just put on old shows like “V” or “Robotech”. Why start puting none sci-fi stuff on?

To me its like giving someone a chicken pizza when they wanted a veggie pizza and saying, ‘well… its not beef!’.

Book three is still my best one.

The twist at the end was super and of course, Black was introduced.

I think Gary Oldman will play the perfect Black.

One thing that I really enjoyed in book V was the information about the house of Black. I liked his background, dark and pure.

It’s not what you expect. Also, I liked the fact that James Potter wasn’t such a good guy, and that Snape isn’t such a bad guy. Ive had the feeling that we were going to find that out sooner or later.

I would much prefer Sirius to live and have Harry go home with him. Perhaps even getting Dobby along. Thats probably just the child in me.

It’s a great read. Its simple, fun and fulled with magic. I couldn’t be arse’d with whatever anyone else thinks about it. My taste, my pleasure!

My favourite character is the one that dies. How sad is that? It wasn’t even a ‘cool’ death. It was so sudden and simple.

    Typical.

Lets show our ignorance by shouting our mouth off and passing judgement on something we don’t know anything about. Gee, and we wonder why we have wars in this world?

As a Star Wars and Harry Potter fan the closest I can get is that both movies have magic in them. So of course, by this, we can say that Willow, The Neverending Story, Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz and many others are all rip offs of The Lord Of The Rings. How enlightening.

I thought Harry Potter wouldn’t catch my interest. I picked up a book and couldn’t put it down. Yes, it is a childs book, but if you knew anything about it, you would know that each book is aimed at the age of Harry in each year. The last two books are pretty dark.

Ignorance is bliss, so I’m told.

B.T.W. – On a more serious note… LexxLurker : Im gutted. Halfway through the book and Im not happy. I’d like to hear your thoughts sometime.

Your comments on Ron have made me think. If Harry gets invovled with Hermoine, it could be the ultimate turning point for Ron. 😳

There have been lots of surprises for me in the books, the biggest in the fourth being that the ‘Mad Eye’ we read about first, was a baddie, so to speak. Black being a good guy was the biggest by far in the whole series. I think number 5 will shock us in the begining instead, and then we’ll understand more as it goes on.

Im not sure about Neville. I think he is just doesn’t have any talent. It was cool to learn about his parents in the pensive.(sp?)

I know from the internet that Harry will learn something about his past that will really surprise him/us . There has been a part released to the public saying this.

If you’re up for a bit of a read, you can skim some of the comments made on http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org I’ve found the place most interesting.

One thing that a lot of potter fans are guessing, is that the old lady (I can’t remember her name) that sometimes looked after Harry, is a witch. If she isn’t, then I think that there must be a witch or wizard that lives nearby. Why else would he be safe there? Surely any dark wizard could find him there?

I cant wait! I love the Potter books.

    1) Please God, don’t let it be Hermoine, Black or Ron. We know it won’t be Harry. Anyone else can die and it’ll be okay… except maybe Nev Longbottom. I love the goofy dumb blob!

    2) I recon its some sort of award. Like a medal or knighthood.

Nope. JK is in South Africa for the opening. Im going to a book store to pick up a copy the day after it comes out. I pre-ordered.

I love the books, and I’ll back you up there. If you’re think they’re for kids, read book three or four. They really do mature as the characters mature.

My thoughts… I think we’re gonna find out something really cool about Snape. I also recon Lilly Potter was a death eater. Don’t ask me why, I just think she had a dark side. I also think Peter aka scabbers will end up saving Harry.

Oh yeah, and I think a new character is going to be introduced.

What I hope for – Black is cleared, Ron hooks up with Hermoine, Lupin returns and for lots more of the Weasly family to be in the book.
