I have a few pictures too. Not as many as Tree’s brother, but a few good ones.

    Good points, Squishy.

I’d also like to add that Resident Evil was the best translation of a videogame into a movie that I’ve ever seen.

What is the most recently released Farscape DVD? Is it Farscape Season 2 Volume 2?

While looking around online, I noticed that the entire first season will be available as a boxed set. (This is not to be confused with the other season one boxed set titled, Best of Season One.) According to my info, it will be released 29 October 2002. The cheapest price I found was $79.99 (US) from Smeetch.Com. I’ve ordered DVDs from Smeetch.Com before and I’ve been happy with their service.

Yes, we were all dog tired. I wish I could have stayed and partied some more, but I was running on no more than four hours of sleep each night.

That little encounter we had with the stage hand struck me with deja vu. Thinking about it more, I think the same exact thing happened to me during one of my other visits to DragonCon in years past. And I think that prick yelled at me then, too. That guy was a megadick.

The script was terrible. The plot was too confusing. The movie did not sufficiently engage me enough to care about the characters. As far as plot and character development was concerned, Showgirls was far more interesting.

Everything else about Final Fantasy was good. The animation was wonderful. And as I recall, the music was pretty good too.

But the story did not grab me at all. I could not figure out why I should care about what happens to any of the characters in the film.

DragonCon 2002 rocked! I’ve been to this convention before, but I never had this much fun. I think I had so much fun because I was there with my fellow Lexx fans. We were a small but visible group. Every few minutes, someone would stop the costumed trio in the halls to get their photo. It was sooooo cool! And it was wonderful to meet some of my online buddies in person for the first time. We had a good time on Saturday night after the Lexx panel discussion.

We need to get Brian to DragonCon 2003! Of the three main actors, I think he would be the most open to the idea. It would be swell if Xenia could come because she would attract plenty of Xev-droolers. I couldn’t guess about any of the other actors, but it seems to me that others could be available. MMM thwack (sp?) is out of the question so forget the idea of having him come.

But next year, it would be great to see more people in Lexx costume! A round of applause for HDS and his costumes. They were amazing in their complete and total accuracy! Fans at the convention were very impressed! And although HDS had a friend wear the actual costume of His Divine Shadow, someone else was there wearing an His Divine Shadow that looked even better than the weathered original!

Next year, I think I’ll work on a simple Divine order cleric costume. I can picture several of them being made for people because the design is so simple. If we had that guy with the really nice His Shadow costume return, we would look very scary indeed!

I’ll let HDS describe our appearance at the Masquerade. But I will say this. Every year I seem to always forget that this event is the climax of the convention. As we left the backstage, there was hundred-meter-long “perp walk” completely packed with people with cameras creating that unbelievable blinding effect of constant flashes. I had no idea. I felt like dork schlepping my backpack. Note for next time! (And there will be a next time!)

A little side note for any Farscape fans. There were some really cool Farscape costumes! I’ve decide that I’m going to go as John Chriton or a Peacekeeper next year for a “hall costume”. At DragonCon this year, I bought my very own resin model of Winnona (heeheeehee).

Conventions are so much more fun if you are wearing a costume! I had never done this before but had always thought about. And there I was, wearing a Brunnen-G costume! Thank you again, HDS! We’ve got to do this sort of thing again next year!

I worshipped Space:1999 when I was a kid in the 1970s. About ten years later, I somehow managed to record one or two of the Space:1999 “movies”; they were merely two similar episodes put together and marketed as movies. Then around 1990 my friend bought the episode on laserdisc. It wasn’t until then that I realised how cheesey the show was. But I still like it very much.

About Blake 7. At DragonCon 2002, I happened to pass by a vendor selling videotapes. On her demonstration television, a science-fiction show was playing. The accents, quality of sets and special effects suggested to me that it was Dr. Who from the 1970s. But I could quickly tell that it wasn’t. Some old geezer was there at the booth looking the tapes of the show over and deciding if he was going to purchase them. I asked him what it was. I guessed that it was Blake 7 and I was right. I commented that I had been told that there were some similarities between Blake 7 and Lexx. He winced and said that was sort of true. But then he completely turned me off by saying that Lexx used to be really good but turned to total crap when it became a series on the SciFi Channel. I told him that he should give season three a look, but he just didn’t want to hear it. That was all I could really say because I could tell that he had already prejudged the show. That left a bad taste in my mouth and I probably won’t be looking for Blake 7 tapes any year soon.

But the experience left me wondering how many types of sci-fi fans there are these days. This fellow was clearly very picky about his sci-fi and was going to tell you how much he dispises something without any thought to if the person he’s talking to may actually like the show. I didn’t get into any deep conversation with the guy. He was there at the table to buy Blake 7. I just rolled my eyes, shrugged, and went on my merry way. But I thought to myself, “I’m a science-fiction fan, but I’m not anything like this guy. There had to be at least a dozen different varieties of fans at this convention. I wonder how many general categories there are?”

I’m sorry, folks. I’ve been knocking myself out trying to get this model done before the first of September. I’m so close to being done. You can see my work in the pictures above. But I’m completely stymied by a single technical problem. I’ve been trying for several days to get help from other modelers in other forums, but the help I get is sketchy and incomplete. I have a very vague understanding of how the model conversion program works and there is absolutely no documentation. I have no idea how these other modelers were able to deduce how it works. When it comes to graphics programs, I’m fine. But when it comes to quick-and-dirty MS-DOS programs that have no documentation, I’m understandably mystified. I’ll have to wait until I come back from DragonCon before I can work on this any more.

Hmmm. I wouldn’t worry to much about arranging things on the bboard. Warning people to not be offensive really goes without saying. No need to point it out again. There’s enough paranoia going around already. However, you can almost count on certain people to be offensive know-it-all jerks. (*cough*bonnee*cough*) So yes, be on alert for extra bad behaviour. But there’s no need to warn people against it ahead of time. Just check the bboard a little more often.

No, no, no, no, no. It can’t be that easy for them to find Kai. A story arc spanning several episodes must take place.

Something must be done about 790. And Little Lexx, as a character and location must be explored. This would cover the first few episodes.

Also, what about Prince, Priest, and Bunny? You have to remember that all of the good planets in the universe have been eaten by Lyekka. And what became of the souls of Earth, Fire, and Water?

Where are any of these characters going to go and have adventures?

Hold on, hold on. I didn’t mean to start anything. I think I made a cheap shot at Lexxstone. I apologize. Sincerely. It’s just that it bugs me that some Lexx fans couldn’t handle the bawdy humor of the fourth season and it got in the way of it’s enjoyment. Besides, this is a subject for another thread in the Lexx forums.

Getting back to the subject of the thread. Yes, I think there should be much more sex comedy on television. The more, the merrier. And especially in science-fiction television.

It’s called sex comedy, Lexxstone. Something we almost never see on television. And seldom effectively accomplished in movies. That’s why The Rocky Horror Picture Show was such genius. And I loved the last season of Lexx and I want more of it.

Make more shows that don’t fall short of people’s hangups. Go all the way. Alien probe carrots that go up the ass of the host was hilarious. It doesn’t suprise me at all that sex comedy was a turn-off to most geeky sci-fi types. (I won’t explain why because it would be insulting. You guys can figure it out on your own or in another thread.) As I mentioned on another bboard, Lexx would probably do well on MTV. I mean, look at Undressed! In fact, “Bunny” (Pat Z.) is on that show!

If you want to get into a techno-babble nerd-fest about it, I could go into discussion about why the anus would be the most logical orifice of entry for a mind-control alien probe. It’s the simplest and most direct route to the base of the central nervous system. But such a discussion is just plain stupid, right? How could a probe going up the @ss be believable? Well, how realistic is mind-controlling alien probes anyway? Should the subject of mind-possession be always treated in a dignified manner? I’ll tell you this right now. If I ever write a sci-fi story about mind-controlling aliens, they are going straight up the ass, no doubt about it!

Fart jokes, ha ha ha. Can’t get enough of them. Think of the permutations of fart jokes when applied to sci-fi. Rigel’s helium farts is just one example. There are so many possibilities when it comes to ass jokes. From there, it can be a stepping stone to penis, breasts, and vagina jokes. And after that, our puritanical hangups may finally disolve and everyone can feel okay about their own bodies and there will be less misery in the world.

The ancient greeks wrote comedies where characters had gigantic sexual organs. It was hilarious thousands of years ago and it’s hilarious today.

You can take a look at a couple of CD covers I have made in the past at my own website, Flamegrape.Com. Look in the galleries section. Unfortunately, they are not sci-fi related.

I’ve made a few DVD covers in the past. One was for work and not interesting to the folks here. The other was for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD I made. But when one of my hard drives got erased several months ago, I lost that work.

I stopped being a newbie when I had seen all of the episodes that had aired at the time. So that means that since I hadn’t seen 2.1 Mantrid until I bought the DVD, I suppose that I stopped being a newbie during the latter half of last year. It was also around the time the fourth season premiered. Sure, I had seen most of the previous episodes before then. I had seen (and taped) all of the third season, seen almost all of the second season when it first aired, and saw the original movies when they aired on SciFi Channel near the end of the second season’s run. But I really think I felt like a newbie until I saw all of the episodes.

Now I am rapidly achieving the status of tedious know-it-all.

I’ve been trying to think of something to say. Where to begin?

First of all, I don’t watch very much television anymore because not much of it interests me. If I do watch something, rest assured that it is usually the SciFi Channel. The History Channel, The Learning Channel, The Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, and Comedy Central are my usual channel-surfing stops. However, the shows that I make a point of watching on a regular basis are science-fiction shows. And I think it’s important to note that other big sci-fi fans also channels-surf to the same channels I listed above.

Living in the USA, I find it very interesting that many foreign sci-fi fans that I encounter on bboards frequently comment about the extreme amount of violence on american television shows. And yet at the same time, american shows have a fear of sexual content. I’m not talking about soft-core porn like what’s seen everywhere on american television. I mean nudity and real sexual dialogue that doesn’t convey a sense of guilt about sexuality. Even though there is “sexiness” all over the place on american tv, it’s cheap, rife with puritanical fear, and is hypocritcal in the fact that they can’t show nudity. Whereas in Europe, the opposite is true. Violence is highly disdained over there and they seem horrified with the massive amounts of it that comes out of the USA television productions. Gun fights and car chases do not action make. Think of some other way to convey suspense other than vicious acts of violence.

What sort of shows would I like to see? More shows like LEXX. It’s goofy, sexy, sometimes intelligent and dramatic. It’s too bad that the censors had to blur out the nudity. In Europe, they left the nudity intact but edited out parts with graphic violence. LEXX had variety. Metaphysical undertones. I really, really, really wish that the makers of Lexx would continue their show with a fifth or sixth season.

Quantum Leap and Sliders were two really cool shows. Each week, the situation could be completely different. It allowed for a tremendous latitude for writers. This is why starship-based sci-fi shows have so many possibilites from week to week. Farscape is a fun show because of this.

Enough with the cops and robbers shows. Lawyer dramas are so tiresome, too. Don’t even try to make another hospital drama. Ignore popular trends and listen to the young, creative people and their crazy, off-the-wall ideas. Some of those ideas will work wonders.

One last thing. Air more episodes of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000! That show is great! Buy the rights to some of those old Comedy Central episodes! C’mon! That show was brilliant! It’s a piece of television history!

If I think of some more stuff, I’ll post it later…

I will not ignore this thread because it pertains to an area of my expertise and it pertains to the collection of DVDs of my favorite show.

I gave you some sound advice and you chose to ignore it. You seem to think I’m some kind of idiot. So of course I won’t shut up about it.

If you do it properly (squeeze, tilt, lift), you can pop out a disc in an Alpha case with little stress… and the spindles never break. Of course, all of this is utterly moot: no one other than Alpha makes 4, 5, and 6-disc cases.

What the heck are you talking about? You’ve got to be thinking of some other brand. There are no “spindles” on Amaray cases. There are two very thick clip-like pieces of plastic that hold the disc in place and keep it totally secure. If that’s what you’re talking about, then that is called the hub. And they are anything but easily breakable. There’s no way the disc would fall free inside the case like you claim. It’s physically not possible. (As I type this I’m tossing my Amaray incased copy of I Worship His Shadow around the room, juggling it, whoops I dropped it on the rug, I open up the case, and the disc is still secure in it’s proper place.) The only way to free it is by simply pushing in the center and it pops free without touching the disc at all. There’s no “squeeze, tilt, lift” at all. One effortless button-like action and you can pick up the disc by the edges. No other brand of DVD case does this. All of the others are similar in design and concept as the Alpha cases.

I’m looking at an Alpha case in my hands right now. In the center there is a hub that you have to firmly pinch in order to release the disc. Sure the Alpha cases keep it in place. But try prying the disc out. You have to pinch the hub while trying to pull the disc out at the same time. Let me repeat, you have to pinch the hub with one hand while pulling the disc out with the other. If you don’t pinch it just right, you might risk bending the disc which a very bad idea. Imaging doing this dozens upon dozens of times over the course of the DVD’s lifetime. With Alpha cases, you have to have the ability to pinch that center hub with strong fingertips. With Amaray, the elderly and others with severe arthritis would not have any trouble.

With Amaray cases, you don’t have any problem holding the disc in place or removing. I spent a very long time researching this subject. I had to decide which type of case I was going to purchase for my father’s video DVD productions. I concluded that the Amaray’s were the best.

I don’t know where you got the idea that the Amaray hubs are “ultra-breakable.” I’ve never had one break. And I’ve used hundreds of them for years. The design is the simplest in form. And with minimal amount of stress placed on the plastic material.

Look, Alpha case hubs are sturdy. They keep the discs in place. But I wince each time I have to pry a disc out of it’s clutches. And I’ve bought DVDs in the store or received DVDs in the mail and I’ve faced the same grief as you described. Discs rattling around loose inside the case. (I’m looking at one right now. It says “MDV Packaging.” It has three things in it’s hub you have to pinch before you can pry the disc out of the case. The Alpha only has two and is designed better.) None of the faulty cases were ever Amaray cases. Nor were they Alpha cases either. The problem I have with Alphas is that you have to risk bending the disc each time you remove it from the case. With Amaray, there is absolutely no risk of bending the disk.

I can see why you are attracted to designing covers for cases that accomidate that many discs. But just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it should be done. It is not “utterly moot,” as you blithely put it. There are things to consider. The most important of which is the safety of your discs.

It doesn’t matter if Trekkers did it with their DVD collections. I say that they foolishly put their discs at risk. I want no part of a plan to do the same with Lexx DVD collections and you can design these Alpha covers yourself. I will actively discourage people from buying into your plan.

Nice idea. But in my professional opinion, Alpha cases suck ass. They subject your DVDs to punishment each time you take one out. (You have to bend and pry them out! Very bad!) Amaray cases are much, much better. In fact, I replaced all the DVDs I have that came in Alpha cases with Amaray cases.

Otherwise, I’d be happy to help design DVD covers for such sets. I’ve designed DVD and CD covers before.

I’m astonished that I, of all the freaky Xev fans in the two universes, found a costume card in my second box of cards! It befuddles my damn fool cracker mind. I thought for sure that I would never see one. I thought it would be one of those things that would bug me until the end of my days. But I got one. I feel a little bit like that kid in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

BTW, I’m trying to collect five complete sets of the 72 cards. Visit my page:

    *giggle*

I, too, watched Farscape because it came on before Lexx. Like everyone else, I think that the SciFi Channel really wrecked Lexx’s chances of becoming really popular because of it’s lousey scheduling.
