I just saw the Greenland ice pass the south of Norway.

hishadowParticipantJepp. The audio is almost not audible. Either the audio is using 1kbps bandwidth 🙂 or maybe it’s been equalized wrong in the reencoding on Google?
hishadowParticipantI thought it was fine. Personally I would have prefered it to be a bit longer. I felt too many details where missing. As gekido says the cinematography is top notch, but somehow the story didn’t say click with me, although I can see how this movie can be intriguing for some.
edited.
hishadowParticipantOnly movies I got to see from those where V for Vendetta and A Scanner Darkly, and they where quite nice.
hishadowParticipantDo I smell viral marketing?
hishadowParticipant
I’ll probably do a review of either FLCL (a whacky and fast pased Anima sci fi series) or a sci fi horror series called MPD (Multiple Personality Detective) Psycho…
Just finished watching the MPD (Multiple Personality Detective) Psycho mini-series. Not to shabby. I think your genre tag should instead be “Takashi-Miike/Sci-Fi” 😉
Short summary:
The story is centered around a police detective named Yosuke Kobayashi that finds his wife killed by a serial-killer. Unable to cope with the loss, he gains a new personality in the form of Kazuhiko Amamiya. Amamiya, being a brilliant profiler, is able to track down the killer and during the confrontation kills him. But the killing of the serial-killer doesn’t seem to stop the killings. New bodies crop up everywhere and it seems that the same killer is still out there. Tooru Sasayama, a senior police detective that have been working with Amamiya in solving the murders, is still in the dark concerning the murders. The mini-series follows them and many other characters in their search for the origin of the murders.Anyone out of stuff to see should definitely check this one out.
Notice:
This series is extremely graphic and if that’s not your thing you should avoid it.
The filming is done digitally without any form of post-processing, like adding grain and frame-rate adjustment. It gives it a kind of “cheap” look, but in my view brings the characeters “closer to life”, much like some of Lars von Trier’s work as Riget (The Kingdom).
Keeping up with the subtitles can be a bit hard at times, as the text is machinegunning away on the bottom of the screen. 😀
hishadowParticipantMaybe you should be looking into those posts from mandara k. She seems to be sucking your bandwidth dry. 😆
ed: gender error 😛 Just presumed a he, because she reminds me of a friend of mine. 😉

hishadowParticipantPretty elaborate system. 😀
If the copyright has been cleared, then http://www.archive.org is also a good place to dump stuff on.
hishadowParticipantOh .. I remember the good ol’days of SciFi UK. Classics like Killdozer and Buck Rogers. 🙂
I see they’re sending The Erotic Misadventures of the Invisible Man today. Lol. It even got three registered goofs on IMDB. Must be a widely seen movie then. *grin*
Some reviews:
C. Carabine (San Diego, CA) – You’re looking at buying this for one of two reasons, don’t bother. It’s not funny, not even stupid funny, and there is nothing erotic about this movie unless you like 30-40 year old people with sagging skin pretending to get it on. If you want funny/erotic movies check out Misty Mundae, at least theres some decent content there.
Jun Yuan Chen “Jc” (Taiwan) – This is a soft-core movie. There are some amazing beautiful women in this movie. The story looks okay for me, but the actors look not professional and act not naturally. The director could make it more professional and entertaining.
There you have it. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. 😈

Ok. I’ll admit that my Texas Ranger analogy was wrong, but The Lost Room still reminds me about Monk, both in terms of characters and story complexity.hishadowParticipantI’m trying to watch this, but I personally find it a bit silly. A sort of Monk goes mystery, with Texas Ranger production values. Hehe. It’s ok watching, but only if you don’t got anything else useful to do (in my opinion.) Hopefully Hogfather will be great.
hishadowParticipant

Ya geared up for Heroes, bonbon?
Definitely M, although I have to confess to being less impressed by it as the show progresses. Now that I’ve got used to its ‘style’, it seems less impressive. Still a great show of course, but I think I prefer BG all said and done – BG is at least preoccupied with real feelings and issues.
Speaking of – and to – nutters, you should check out Dexter on Showtime if you can. That’s a great show too.
Heroes was a nice surprise. Not been disappointed yet. I think your reason for it being less impressive is maybe because many of the secrets/mystery in the beginning has been disclosed. Hehe, well all if you count the last episode now. 🙂 Keeping my fingers crossed for it not turning into a pile of dren. The same kinda goes for Battlestar Galactica, although I still think it got a season left for finishing it up.

WARNER HOME VIDEO TO RELEASE
BRAND NEW “BABLYON 5”
MADE FOR VIDEO IN 2007BABLYON 5: THE LOST TALES TO BEGIN PRODUCTION NOVEMBER 13, 2006
BURBANK , CA , November 13, 2006 – Warner Home Video (WHV) and Warner Bros. Television (WBTV) have announced the start of production of “Babylon 5: The Lost Tales,” a made-for-video movie that will be targeted towards the Babylon 5 loyal audience and science-fiction fans in general . The announcement was jointly made by Jeff Brown, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Non-theatrical Franchise, Warner Home Video and Gregg Maday, Senior Vice President, Movies and Miniseries, WBTV.
WHV will be the home entertainment distributor for this made-for-DVD release which will include two new Babylon 5 stories collectively entitled “Voices of the Dark” in one film plus exclusive behind the scenes content. The stories will be written and directed by executive producer and original “ Babylon 5” creator J. Michael Straczynski. Executive producer Doug Netter also returns in that role. Actors from the original series that have signed on to participate in the project include Bruce Boxleitner (“President John Sheridan”), Tracy Scoggins (“Captain Elizabeth Lochley”) and Peter Woodward (“Galen”).
Babylon 5 is a top selling franchise on DVD to date with over $44 million in consumer sales. Launched in February 1993, the award winning series was a top rated show on television with more than 13.7 million viewers in its debut season. After its original planned five-year run – introducing the concept of a five year arc before other TV series began to use multi-season arcs — the show went on to enjoy 9 successful years in syndication and Cable on the Sci-Fi Channel and TNT. It also spurred the creation of five feature length movies based on the series including The Gathering, In the Beginning, Thirdspace, River of Souls and A Call to Arms, as well as the limited series Crusade. Babylon 5 has received numerous awards including two Emmys, two consecutive Hugo Awards, the Ray Bradbury Award for Dramatic Screenwriting from the Science Fiction Writers of America, five English Media ‘Cult TV’ Awards, the E Pluribus Unum Award from the American Cinema Foundation, the Sci-Fi Universe Reader Choice Award for Best TV Series and was the winner of the TV Guide Poll for Best Sci-Fi Show.
“We are very excited to be releasing this new made-for-video release filled with original content for ‘ Babylon 5’, one of the most successful science fiction series of all time,” said Jeff Brown. “This popular TV show which has been off the air for a few years continues to have a strong loyal fan base that is hungry for more content. This is the first time we’re utilizing one of our popular TV franchises as a made-for-video title, and we have a strong commitment to the growth of this sector.”
“It’s great to be reunited with Joe and Doug once again,” commented Maday. “I have always been very proud to be associated with their wonderful work on Babylon 5 and I’m confident the “Lost Tales” will add to the legacy of this very special franchise.”
On an immense space station built by the Earth Alliance in the 2250s, the crew of Babylon 5 are charged with maintaining the peace among the various alien races by providing a sanctuary where grievances and negotiations can be worked out among duly appointed ambassadors. Aside from its diplomatic function, Babylon 5 also serves as a military post for Earth and a port of call for travelers, traders, businessmen, criminals, and Rangers. The story of The Lost Tales picks up several years after the events of its original story, and follows several of its major characters in new adventures set against the backdrop of the Babylon 5 universe.

hishadowParticipantYay.
hishadowParticipant
maybe they’ll indroduce some next year once the fall-out takes root, lol!
I’m still enjoying the show. It is slower going, but has interesting twists….
Please drop a reply if something exiting happends, beside some personal drama that’s >> full nuclear attack. 😀
of course you can always head over to mutant central..Heroes
But they’ve not gone post-apocalyptic .. yet. When I think of post-apocalyptic, I think more in the direction of The Stand, especially episode 1 before it continued to religion. My mutants I think came from a rpg game named Fallout.
hishadowParticipantHopefully this will give Universal Studios so much bad press, that they will withdraw their petty billings. What a stupid way to ruin all of their goodwill with the Firefly-community.

23rd October 2006 at 4:40 am in reply to: I have to disagree headge about this season so far…..spoil #76865hishadowParticipantI still love this show and I find almost every new episode interesting and worth the watch. Let’s just see where it goes from here. For me this is still one of the most innovating and original sci-fi being broadcasted atm and looking forward to how it plays out in the future.

Cherry 2000 – bring your other cult for a laugh.
Pixote – bring your cult and cry.
Crumb / American Splendor – america is the perfect place for a cult.
Freaks – can be a cult too. Thanks for all the movie tips posted.
hishadowParticipantBattlestar Galactica and Doctor Who remake I think are very nice. 🙂 Else I stumbled upon some rare mini-series that I found worth watching (though not all are pure sci-fi): Neverwhere, Total Recall 2070, V, The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (old bbc thing) and Ultraviolet.
What I miss the most from other shows is the boldness and uniqueness that I felt the Lexx series gave its viewers. The only other tv-show I’ve watched that might have similarities to it is the old mini-series Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy from BBC and to an extent the remake of Doctor Who.
Looking up some of the old crew for Lexx on IMDB reveals they’re not that active more. Maybe it’s time for them to return to the Lexx series? *grin*
hishadowParticipantJust a question about this Scientology blockbuster…

Why does a superior alien race have humungous scrotums? As you can see, Travolta’s scrotum is also bigger than Whitakers, signaling his social rank.
hishadowParticipantMy expectations for this movie are at rock bottom. I & II was a total letdown. There’s also too much over-commercialisation of the SW product.
(and…I’ll probably watch it anyway :))

Well, I’m more concerned about some of these nanobots replicating out of control. But the utility of these machines will probably be restricted to very small, specific tasks.
In other news http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4357613.stm… a US particle accelerator may have created a black hole. I would call that more troublesome news 😀
hishadowParticipant
The pilots’ helmets have a long overhead visor, like the bill of a baseball cap, which is contrived to house the lights that illuminate the actors’ faces for the camera. Logically, though, the glare of these lights inside the visor would blind the pilot, and the long bill would obscure the pilot’s upward field of vision. The design makes little sense.http://www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2075

The three things I like most about the old Battlestar Galactia are the music, the cool looking Cylons, and the interaction between the characters. The new Battlestar Galactica has none of these things.

While we’re on the subject of clothing, the civilian clothes are pretty silly looking as well … So, what, we’re supposed to assume that leisure suits and neckties arose by parallel evolution in two unrelated areas of the galaxy? In a crowd scene, one guy is clearly wearing a denim jacket with “KISS” written on the back in rhinestones. Are we to assume that the KISS Army likewise developed in parallel on two unrelated worlds?
…
The Galactica’s control room, however, looks cheap and cheesy. It’s got large stacks of controls that obviously do nothing, and who’s only purpose is to flop over when the ship gets hit by a missile, or what have you.
…
The music in the show is the worst kind of keyboard-and-drum machine tripe.
…
Cylon fighters basically look like the Batwing from Batman, or a Kilraithi fighter from Wing Commander, or (my choice) a Centauri fighter from Babylon 5, minus the cool purple paintjob.
…
There is no ‘character’ underneath their bitching, if you understand what I mean.
…
Anyway, Olmos … His character is not particularly smart, nor likeable, nor gruff, nor nothing, he’s just this boring old guy who whispers too much and has really bad skin.
…
It’s not about Science Fiction, because SF is fundamentally a genre of ideas, and there’s not one single new goddamn idea in this 240 minute waste of time and money.http://www.mahatmarandy.com/reviews/BGRemake.htm
Those are all good points!
Well, it seems that some old fans are just disappointed with how the new series turned out, as well as scifi fans that don’t like the “adult” take on scifi.
hishadowParticipantMy prediction:
– A clone of commander William Adama is soon to appear.
– Like Lexx, the BSG crew is soon to land on earth to keep production cost down. 😀
– … and Baltar is probably human.hishadowParticipantThose that I didn’t enjoy:
Star Wars episode 1 and 2, X-Files (late), Battlefield Earth, Matrix 2 and 3,Those that I thought did ok:
Casshern, I Robot, Immortel (ad vitam), Kaena: La prophétie, Pitch Black, Star Trek: The Next GenerationThose that I really enjoyed:
Lexx, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica (new), X-Files (early), Tripping The Rift, Akira, Matrix 1, La Cité des enfants perdus, Dark City, Dune, Electric Dreams, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Fifth Element, Rings trilogyThose that I thought where hillarious:
Cyborg 3: The Recycler, Dracula 3000, Masters of the Universe,… and lots of more.

Hey. Keep your language simple, can’t you see my avatar 🙂 Luckily I got my Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary here… lets see… <frantic paging>I guess there are more similarities to Battlestar Galactica. Faith seems to be the theme, mixed in reality with spiritual energy. Include Lexx’s looping of time.
When I watch a show, I’m more interested in the experience. Since I’m what they call a non-believer, the almost-good vs. almost-evil is just another story element for me. But what appeal the most are Cârnivale’s characters and the setting they play in.
As you can see from my avatar, there’s been a lot of intellectual bankruptcy.
PS. X-files got stuck in the toaster too long.
hishadowParticipant
No i must say i haven’t seen it but i do hope it makes the old tv channels. It sounds like the program to fill the buffy / angel void. Anything that is slightly on the odd side i always find quite interesting and i will always give it a look. I will keep my eyes peeled to see if it makes it over to the uk.
I thought ultraviolet was a good series but may be a bit short.
Well, I would say this show has alot more in common with Twin Peaks. Carnivale has a much more “adult” theme, if there’s such a thing. Anyway, this show does not resemble Buffy and Angel.I’d really enjoy if David Lynch was asked to do an episode though 🙂
hishadowParticipantThis show is a real gem. I stumbled upon it while visiting the HBO site, reading about Real Time with Bill Maher. Its a great mix of drama and mystery. I’m actually amazed that this kind of quality show goes unmissed. It may be the slow pacing of the story and the fact that you need to follow the show chronologically. There are also some lackbuster episodes. But despite being a demanding show I still think its a rewarding viewing experience.
Oh, I forgot to mention the characters. They’re just great. Well, I were a bit sceptical in the start to mr. Clancy Brown from Pet Semetary fame 🙂 , but I really think he’s doing a fine job.
I recommended this show to my brother and a friend of mine. Both where instantly hooked!
My taste: Twin Peaks, Lexx, Battlestar Galactica (new), Farscape, Tripping The Rift, Simpsons (early seasons), Black Adder.
