I agree with this part of your missive bonnee; for some reason, exceedingly long memories and a willingness to spend eternity brooding over past injustices, as well as a fundamental unwillingness to compromise appears to be pandemic in the middle east…however i object to the feel good semantics lecture on terrorism;let’s go for very simple words and concepts here. Terrorism is murder/maiming of nonmilitary personnel to make a political or religious point…so while one could argue that the pentagon, as a military target, is a justifiable target by another army, or an army of terrorists even, there is absolutely no way to justify the destruction of the wtc and the people within…not to mention the hapless passengers of all the airliners who got dragged along for the ride…At least in a war, you have professional soldiers fighting other professional soldiers…and hopefully dragging in as few noncombatants as possible…so please do not imply that the term terrorism is relative; even the terrorists know that it is murder of innocents, that’s why they do it…be they muslim, ira or whatever…

like marybeth, there were always critters in my house when i was growing up, including Croo-Croo, my raccoon , who did get a bit curmudgeonly as she got older, and delighted in tormenting one of our dogs, Captain Kirk (the other two were, obviously, Mr. Spock and Enterprise )…i think my exhusband and i started going out together originally because of our shared insanity about dogs; we lived in nyc, my apartment allowed dogs, so he got to have a puppy and a girlfriend…murphy is my current companion, a goldador (lab plus golden retriever) and he lives in blissful sloth (his biggest decision is whether to lie on the couch, his chair, or my bed)…he does not molest the visiting lizards, egrets or herons, merely the occasional pussygato…and he only barks at me,and that’s if i neglect to scratch his ears or give him his massage while we are watching tv

Participantgood job marybeth, and all…i think that if people can discuss this here, with people they ‘know’ and share common interests with, maybe they will take that ability out into the real world in some small way…with the caveats already stated that flaming/personal insults must be nipped in the bud, and that at the end of the day, we all come here to escape in some way, so hopefully this won’t overtake the board …but with marybeth on top of it, and the nature of the vast majority of the peeps here, i think it will be okay

sorry lexx lurker; should have written ‘identifiably chinese appearing, or hispanic appearing or irish appearing’ …obviously it is a religion, not a race, but unfortunately for super’s uncle, the people we identify as muslim tend to be middle eastern appearing, thus relating back to the profiling issue…btw, in this age of ‘we daren’t say what we mean’, i also don’t like the catch phrase of ‘profiling’with all the negative implications…if someone tells you they were mugged by a ‘little white man with payos and prayer shawl’, then that is what you should be looking for…by extension, is it wrong to stop all middle eastern-may be muslim appearing people to avoid further terrorist acts? well, yeah, i guess that is profiling, i think we mostly agree that it is a necessary evil, and not necessarily persecution…as to the west’s role in all this, let’s bounce it back into the islamic court; why are you allowing these fundamentalists to run amuck? these people must have fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters…afghanistan had a nice little reign of terror going on, particularly against women, because of these fundamentalists, and none of the peaceable, ‘we just want to love god and be gentle ‘muslims did anything to correct these guys…in fact, i am mostly hearing that ‘we’re not all like that, so don’t treat me bad’ and precious little, ‘you’re right, we’re fed up with these goons too, let’s get them under control together’…and i guess that’s why my sympathy factor isn’t quite as high as it could be…so far the people that seem to be ‘with’ the ‘evil’ usa on this antiterrorism crusade are not ‘identifiably’ muslim, and those that are against this coalition would appear to be ‘identifiably muslim’ …so like sadgeezer says, why not ask for some strong show of support by islam against the terrorists, instead of telling people how rotten it is to be victimized…just a thought, and sincere hopes that you and yours never know worse than what you have told us about here…fx

Participantyou know, when i lived in california, i met many japanese americans whose parents had been placed in internment camps during world war II…and i thought, how horrible…but that is easy to do from the distance of forty or fifty years…and while i have muslim friends and teachers that i respect and love, the simple fact is that the people who committed these acts were muslim, not chinese, not spanish, and not irish, and some of them had been living in the us for a while…so if your uncle has to stand in line and put up with a few more indignities than the rest of us who fly must (long waits in security lines, taking your shoes off at the gate, getting inspected and detected) so be it…i am betting that the families of the dead fireman and policemen who tried to help, and the people on those flights, not to mention those in the wtc and pentagon, wish that a little more ‘racism’ had been shown early on…i know i am, and i didn’t lose anybody except my fellow humans…i’m sorry if your feelings are hurt, but if it keeps my mom from spending the last few minutes of her life being terrorized by some idiot with a knife while she watches her plane fly into a building or the ground, well hey, i guess i am a racist…the reason i mention my mother is that i made her drive home to virginia last week when tampa international got shut down because of some guy with a gun trying to get through security…the guy got away, and he may not even have been a muslim, but the fact remains that things have changed here in the usa, and we are all just going to have to live, and hopefully not die, with it…

Participanthmmm…this guy is a piece of work isn’t he? all this hoo haw about working on lexx, then not working on lexx a few months back…now it’s paul’s fault the eppy sux? and he doesn’t think mcmanus gets a fair shake? but he doesn’t want to be misquoted either…hmmm, curiouser and curiouser these film types…i will say that pd’s reach sometimes exceeds his grasp, but when he’s on, like the game he’s really on, and all is forgiven…to my teeny tiny mind, the main problem with s4 is that the three beans weren’t working together, and feeding off each other so to speak; all of the separate bad and good points of lex, paul and jeff seemed to be mitigated by each other when they worked together…otherwise, you get pure jeff, pure lex and pure paul, which isn’t necessarily a good thing…that kind of cohesiveness and the whole being greater than the sum of the parts seems to be missing this season…oh well, just my two bits saddy; thanks for sharing

Participantwell, thank you for the analysis; it gives even more depth to what is a truly amazing episode…this was back to the lexx that captivated us all…flawed but still completely compelling and eerie …the beans and the cast and crew really came through on this and have something they can proud of…and let’s have a cheer for the cgi people, who have had to outdo themselves yet again to come up with such a seamless visual even though paul’s filming left so many disparate pieces to patch together (hey, when it hasn’t been done, you have to make it up as you go )that has been the real creative strength of lexx…everyone has always been gifted and dedicated enough to pull it together )

Participantwell lilly, as you have probably noticed from lurking, not all of us agree on all the episodes of this season or any other…but there are certain episodes i am looking forward to seeing…and hoping desperately i won’t be disappointed by …i hope you reconsider and stick around to discuss it when it all ends, or at least watch a select few eppy’s like the game (which still isn’t finished folks, ) and apocalexx now, and of course, yo vay yo…you will want to see how it all ends, i promise you…and no, one episode doesn’t make up for ‘filler’, it’s just worth watching on its own…
