All right!

I always thought Blake’s 7 was worthy of a remake (a sequel I’m not so sure of, though).

Of course, Marconi’s signal would not have the energy to exit the Earth’s magnetosphere. And even if it did, it would take the signal over a million years travelling at light speed to reach where the asteroid (?) was. Then again, it may be symbolic.

There’s been talk of a new Doctor Who theatrical movie or series since at least 1998. Nothing’s ever materialized.

The last I heard was in 1999 Artisan reportedly bought the rights to Doctor Who from the B.B.C. and the Daleks from the Nation estate, but to my knowledge nothing’s been done. We all want to see more Who, but for some reason it isn’t happening.

Why would Mantrid look like an asteroid with T.V. antennae set up on it? There is really nothing about its appearance that is suggestive of Mantrid or Insects. And how do you know it was moving slow? You have no reference points. You don’t even know how big it is! What is slow? It could be moving hundreds of times the speed of light ans still take many years to get from the Large Magellanic Cloud or wherever to the Milky Way Galaxy.

I never said I was bothered by 790’s receiving female programming. Don’t misrepresent me. I just think the robot head was a more humerous character when he was in love with Zev. I mean, let’s face it, half of 790’s purpose is comic relief, and with Zev it was funnier and there were more possibilities. The Kai thing was sorta good to start out with but it got old. Since 790 became female the character has become less whimsical and more mean, and I think that sould be reversed.

My first thought when I saw Little Blue Planet was “Am I on the right channel?” That beginning sequence was really unlike anything we’d seen previously in Lexx. It was like that first episode of Red Dwarf’s eighth season where Rimmer’s alive and he and Lister are on board the Dwarf and we’re all wondering “what the hell is going on?”

Anyway, I was disappointed with the new beginning credits. It was pretty much like the season 3 ones only cut short. I was expecting something totally new.

The Earth scenes are good. There’s sort of a Lone Gunmen-type dark yet deviously humerous ethos to the whole government thing. I liked the way that Prince (?) was leading the president on and setting up the whole situation for disaster. When they said that independent candidate won I was half expecting to see a picture of the Wozard or Schlemmi or some other evil freak from previous Lexx. I wonder what that guy’s deal is.

790 seemed a little more annoying (I was hoping Kai’d fix the robot head so he’d be male again) and Zev seemed a little more naïve, but it’s basically the same Lexx crew we remember. I anticipate future episodes to be like those Star Trek shows where crew members travel back in time to present day Earth and don’t fit in and such.

All in all the episode was good, though a little confusing (how did they end up in the 21st century, why is Prince the director of the A.T.F., what was that dealiething headed for the Milky Way???). I hope to see more like it this season.

We’re all asking that same question. It looked to me like an asteroid with a bunch of T.V. antennae set up on it. Maybe the Hale-Bopp aliens want to pick up cable.

But I don’t remember it being shown at the end. The last scene (on the Sci-Fi Channel in America) was inside the Lexx with Stan overjoyed to have the key again.

That’s inaccurate. “Austral” is the prefix used in stellar constellations (as in Beta Corona Australis), and I’m sure that’s what the writers meant.

American culture would not have sunken into depravity like it has if the people were not brainwashed by the media. Television and movies present faulty value systems and immoral norms within a fictional context that all too many confuse with real life. Something needs to be done because everyone seems to be ignoring the problem.

If you want good Star Wars-related fiction, read Star Wars Tales. Some of the sttories in the collection are uninspired, but it’s mostly gold.

I have to disagree with that. The Fore Shadow is vaguely insectoid (really more echinodermatoid), but there is no trace of anything organic. It is metal and glass, whereas the Lexx and the Giga Shadow are flesh and chitin.

At the risk of diverting this thread permanently from Lexx, I have answers to Raven’s Star Wars questions.

In Episode II we’ll see Boba Fett as a Mandalorian general in kinky white armor, and as a young boy. They’re clones, both called “Boba Fett,” and I don’t know which one actually becomes the guy we see in Episodes IV-VI.

After the Mandalorians’ bitter defeat at Condawn and the end of the Clone Wars, one of those Bobas shows up in Episode III as a small-time bounty hunter, still wearing a slight modification of the traditional armor. Then, as we all know, by the time of the Classic Trilogy he’s the most feared bounty hunter in the Galaxy.

Disclaimer: Some of this information has not been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. It is a combination of established facts, rumors, and speculation that has been accepted by most of the Star Wars fans I have conversed with.

The first pilot was the 2-hour 1964 episode The Cage. The only character in it who became a regular on the show was Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The Cage was not aired. The second pilot was Where No Man Has Gone Before. It was picked up by the network. Later, a 2-part episode entitled The Menagerie showed most of the unaired footage from The Cage in the form of flashbacks, and had some characters from that episode reappear in real time.

Like Darth Vader, His Divine Shadow serves as a figurehead for a vast and antagonistic force.

Also like Vader, His Divine Shadow was built up in two movies as the bad guy, then the makers threw in some pathos and had him try to destroy a greater evil (the Emperor/Mantrid). They’re both fallen Angels, remnants of a glorious race who descended into darkness since their people were slaughtered en masse.

Which Babylon 5 episode had black vapor possessing people?

Well, Darth Vader is an obvious influence. His Divine Shadow also reminds me of the Eternal Spirit of Morthrii from The War of the Worlds. The scene where the commander kills the major then herself on board the Mega Shadow seems like an homage to a similar scene in the Doctor Who episode The Keeper of Traken.

Some people say the whole dark mass entering bodies and taking them over and turning their eyes black and such was lifted from The X-Files. However, Lexx 1.1: I Worship His Shadow appeared a year before the Black Oil made its debut (in the episode Piper Maru). There are also major differences between the two sci-fi elements, so we must conclude that they were separate developments.

I think His Shadow was inspired more by people in real life. There were those crazy Christians in the past who ordered thousands to be killed just because they worshipped different gods. And then you have those modern cult leaders who say (or even believe) that they’re God, and aquire a dark following. And let’s not forget Mr. Hitler. His Divine Shadow is more a symbol of religious zealotism and pedagogery on Earth than any product of science fiction roots.

Lexx is so “alien” as far as T.V. shows go it’s hard to picture the actors in it doing anything else. It’s like when you see a Doctor Who acter in a Ms. Marple mystery or the Cigarette-Smoking Man in some soap opera, it’s hard to accept them as another character. In a science fiction series, there are generally a number of non-human (alien, robot, mutant, cyborg, etc.) characters, but the makers always feel an obligation to make the main character human. In other words, the person we’re supposed to be sympathizing with and rooting for that most of the plots center around is just a boring, average guy like you we see every day in real life without any neat biomechanical implants or telapathic powers or alien symbionts or anything else that makes us watch sci-fi.

Rather than try to counter this, the makers of Lexx have taken it to the extreme, making Stanley Tweedle the ultimate average guy, overemphasizing his mundanity to the point of actually making him interesting, even though the character is, by his constitutional definition, un-interesting.

Stan is a great character because he’s a boring average guy like the kind that exists in real life. He doesn’t always see a situation from all angles, he doesn’t always consider the consequences of his actions, and he doesn’t solve every problem that comes up. In other words, he’s human. That’s what makes him a good main character for a show that, in all other facets, is anything but mundane. I know everybody is going to disagree with this, but that’s what I believe.

The organs went to the droid banks, or (possibly) the Lexx. As for the Insect technology, that means the Brunnen-G either stole Insect hardware or had an alliance with a faction of the Insects in the distant past.

What I mean is: why was Christianity even brought up? It has nothing to do with this topic! And yes, I’m Lutheran, but that’s irrelevant.

Purity is not a living essence, it is a form of reproduction through the infection of a host. And Grays don’t have Purity, only E.B.E.s. I know what I’m talking about. You’re dealing with the ultimate X-pert, here.

Mulder is not the father. Dana Scully is a virgin. The child was created from her D.N.A. by the microchip in her neck. There is no father. It is the One, the latest incarnation of Purity Control (The Erlenmeyer Flask, Red Museum, Nisei, One Son, etc.).

I say things, people disagree with ME.

I said that, in the future, Lexx should have less violence, less sex, and more morals. People disagreed with all three (but mainly focused on the sex).

I voiced my opinion that His Divine Shadow was a great villain. People (mostly Aleck) disagreed with that.

I pointed out that Lexx was a show in the spirit of Star Trek. People disagreed with that.

With my luck, if I said I liked Lexx everyone else would say the show was lousy.

The proto-blood in The Giga Shadow was fresh from the insect. Maybe it is usually refined or distilled or mixed with something else before being put to use.

Kai needed to be decarbonized and fitted with cybernetics for the proto-blood to reanimate him, but Yottskry was just dead-dead when it dripped on him. Maybe that was more concentrated, and that’s why it had different properties than Kai’s and looked like frosting instead of gravy.

It’s my theory that proto-blood is the egg mass of the Insects, and that it contains nanites. Nanites are machines smaller than bacteria that could repair their cells, allowing them to last longer, reshape their tissues, allowing them to adapt, and help interfase boilogical and mechanical components of their being. Kai mentioned in K-Town that he had some sort of micro-machinery. But the proto-blood (in a slightly different form) was also used to revive humans after His Shadow’s Insect body burrowed into the Cluster. The nanites could reanimate human tissue to a point but never bring the person back to life in full, since it’s calibrated for Insects and works with their less complex biology.

So what keeps Kai alive is what kept the Insects alive. Is any of this making sense?

The Grays (that’s what the aliens are called on the show) can be killed. Deep Throat blew one’s head off in Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man.

    There’s no “alien essence.”

Doctor Who is not dead! Even though it’s been a while since any new episodes were aired, the project continues. There have been 20 Who movies (2 for T.V., 18 for video) since the series entered limbo, and a year or so Artisan entertainment bought the rights to the series from B.B.C. and to the Daleks from the Nation estate (they haven’t done anything with that yet, which makes me mad since this isn’t the first time a new Who endeavour was postponed indefinitely). You can trust that there will be a new theatrical movie and either a television series or a series of follow-up movies before Doctor Who ends with a sense of closure (like what was done with Alien Nation.

But both the Well-Manicured Man and one of the Gregors said Samantha was alive in space. If we are to believe Closure then Samantha died as a child on Earth, so that’s not compatable. One of those scenerios is correct, the other simply isn’t. “Which of his lies are we to believe?”-Fox Mulder.

And besides, the Cigarette-Smoking Man was in Closure, Scully discovered that it was him who terminated the search for Samantha Mulder.

Mulder talked to Samantha in Redux II but that could’ve been another clone. If she wasn’t a clone she was brainwashed, ’cause she had no real memories of her parents and Fox (clones have no memory or consciousness from the donor from whose D.N.A. they were created).
