I know what you mean. Sometimes sequels can spoil a great original.

Whovian, Froudian, Lexxian, etc.DalekTek790ParticipantLet’s see here, we’ve got Evolution, a sci-fi comedy directed by Phil Tippett (the Star Wars films, Starship Troopers, Expedition 2) starring David Duchovny, who’s also slated to appear in the second X-Files film alongside Gillian Anderson and Robert Patrick (it seems Mulder won’t stay dead ).
Alien: Atmosphere has Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder forming an uneasy alliance with “Yautja hunters” (from the Predator films) to fight aliens on Earth.
The popular sci-fi novels The Time Machine (Wells), Ringworld (Nivin), and Lensman (Smith) all have film versions coming out in the near future. Science fiction author/artist Wayne Douglas Barlowe (Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials, Expedition, Babylon 5: Thirdspace) is reported to contribute his design to Ringworld.
And I’m not even going to start on all I’ve heard about Star Wars: Episode II.

Wozard: Breathe in for the brothers, breathe out for the sisters…
Dark Lady: You are a deeply, deeply stupid man.
That whole episode was full of great dialog. It truly is one of Lexx‘s brightest moments.

I wrote a humerous play about sci-fi fandom for my Advanced Public Speaking class, and I incorperated this discussion into it. Here is an excerp-
DANE: Okay, if you’re so good at hearing things, tell me what Lyekka said to Mantrid in Lexx 2.20?
SPOOK: ‘I like you’?
DANE: No! When he asks how she got in the ship, she says she went through the keyhole like a…then she says somethin’ that sounds like ‘smoochie cat.’ What is it?
SPOOK: It sounded to me like ‘squishy cat.’
DANE: Since when are cats squishy?
SPOOK: Since when are cats smoochie?
DANE: since when can cats get through keyholes?
JEREMY: Since when do spaceships have keyholes?
SPOOK: Since when does Lexx make sense? It’s just a bunch of shots of large-breasted alien women in increasingly exotic costumes. After you’ve got that, the rest just falls into place.
Just thought you guys might find it amusing (my classmates did).

DalekTek790ParticipantI don’t think it’s ever actually addressed in any episode, but I’ve always assumed that 790’s contempt for Stan came from his pre-love-slave programming. He would have been programmed to consider security guards as the low, and level 4 security guards as the lowest of the low.
I, personally, would like to see 790 male again. The Stan thing could be good, but not for a full season. Maybe when Kai (or somebody) is trying to reprogram him to love Zev again, it will screw up and he’ll have a thing for Stan until the error is quickly corrected.
Any way, 790 is one of the best characters on Lexx, and certainly the funniest!
By the way, does anyone else think 790 sounds like Salem (from Sabrina the Teenage Witch)? At first I thought it was the same voice actor.

Whovian, Froudian, Lexxian, etc.DalekTek790ParticipantI like Lexx, it’s a good show. But, like all shows, it has its shortcomings, and sometimes it is downright repulsive.
We’re here to discuss Lexx. We like to stick to the good things, but we can’t pretend that the bad things don’t exist.
I post my opinions, and usually there are people here who agree and people wo disagree. But sometimes everyone inexplicably disagrees and it turns into an argument. And then people twist what I say and make me sound like some sort of weird pervert.
It’s not just me. All of my friends seem to agree on what I said under “Thoughts on the next season…Anyone?” And I doubt I’m the only Lexxian here who changed the channel when Lyekka and Lomea got a little too close.
And as for Jerry Falwell, not, I didn’t know who he was when I posted that. Now that NB1 put down his full name, I typed it into a search engine and figured out who he was. I have nothing against the man, but I don’t see how I in any way resemble him. I’ve never mentioned religion (except to counter religious arguments someone else started). You don’t even know what religion I am!

DalekTek790ParticipantThere are numerous references to The Wizard of Oz in Lexx (especially Woz). You see, Zev is Dorothy (’cause she’s looking for a home), Kai is the Tin Woodman (he’s metal and has no feelings), 790 is the Scarecrow (“If I only had a body…”), and Stan is certainly the Cowardly Lion.

This could be explained as either her trying to convince Prince she was fiercer than she really was, or the writers screwing up.

DalekTek790ParticipantI assumed they were going to reshow the second season, and was all ready to tape Mantrid. Oh well, at least I’ll get a chance to see Boomtown.
——————
Lee P. Sherman, code name DalekTek790
Whovian, Froudian, Lexxian, etc.DalekTek790ParticipantIt was good, but not great. While differentiating from the original series, The Lone Gunmen still managed to retain enough of the X-Files ethos to appeal to long-time fans, unlike previous spinoffs (Strange Luck, Millennium). It could have been better, though. It would’ve helped to have another major character from The X-Files to help ease the transition. Like, the informant could have been the Plain-Clothed Man or even Deep Throat (they brought him back, remember?). Or they could have had a fimiliar icon (such as Krycek) among the bad guys to add an extra layer of menace. And how come they didn’t do hardly anything with Langly in the pilot? He’s the head Lone Gunman.

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
DalekTek790ParticipantHe didn’t send Stan to level 9 of Fire because he was a bad person, he did it out of spite, because the Lexx was his big chance to blow up Water, and he thought at that point that Stan had ruined his only chance. If Prince were a fair judge, Stan would have gone to Water.
The third season’s “premise” allowed departed characters to return. Schlemmi and Mantrid were pretty good, but the rest were just minor people nobody cared about. Here are some people I think they should have met on Fire and Water:
Kai’s wife (Water)
His Divine Shadow’s last human host (Fire)
Thodin (Water)
The Poet Man (Fire)
Bog (Water)
Wist (Water)
Yottskry (Water)
T. D. Banyo (Water)
Jihana (Fire)

DalekTek790ParticipantLast night’s episode of Lexx was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever.
I didn’t think anything could top Girltown in awfulness, but then they hit us with The Beach, and then add insult to injury with Heaven and Hell. Are they trying to lose fans!?!
Okay, there are some things that you should never do in a science fiction series (or arguably any series), and one of them is add supernatural elements. The last two episodes of Lexx raised too many questions, and gave the wrong answers to too many others.
The one good thing that can be said about Heaven and Hell is that it opened up the possibility for a new, better season. I just hope the show can get past this, and show us the kind of greatness next season that we saw in the first two seasons. Then again, Prince survived, and was seen coming to the new planet. The prospect of last season’s Deus ex Machina returning is not an appealing one. Let’s just hope that he’s dealt with in the first episode, leaving the rest open for new stories.

DalekTek790ParticipantDavid Duchovny is signed on for 6 more episodes this season, so Mulder must be alright (unless they’re going to do more flashback episodes ).
As for Scully’s pregnancy, in Requiem she said she’s “having trouble believing it,” plus there was the E.B.E. baby and coverup in Per Manum and “second coming” in Detour, which leads me to believe it is of supernatural origins (like Emily).

No. Stan must be dreaming. The writers wouldn’t make that big a mistake.
——————
Lee P. Sherman, code name DalekTek790
Whovian, Froudian, Lexxian, etc.DalekTek790ParticipantI think Lexx should go on to season 7 or 8, then make more movies. Too many great sci-fi serieses have been cut short in the past. Lexx should be around long enough to reach its full potential, but not so long that its quality deteriorates. Future seasons should never be connected like the episodes in season 3, but rather like the season 2 stories, with an occasional two or three-parter.
